Grading the Raiders from Sunday’s loss to Broncos

Here’s how the Raiders graded out in Sunday’s 37-6 loss to the Denver Broncos, according to beat writer Jerry McDonald:

Pass offense

Carson Palmer (19 of 34, 204 yards) did some good things early on but found himself increasingly under pressure as the Broncos expanded their lead and couldn’t convert in the red zone. Threw his best deep ball of the season — a 37-yard sideline strike to Denarius Moore and a couple of nice screens. Grade: C-plus

Rush offense

Darren McFadden gained 15 yards on his first three carries, a promising start that went nowhere. He finished with 34 yards on 13 carries. The longest gain went to Mike Goodson on a 13-yard run. The Raiders needed to run to keep Denver’ s pass rush at bay and failed. Grade: F

Pass defense

Target practice, fish in a barrel, pitch-and-catch, use any descriptive clichés you want and that’s what Peyton Manning did to the Raiders defense. He completed 30 of 38 passes to eight different receivers for 338 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions, had zero pressure. It all looked so easy. Grade: F

Run defense

Denver’s no-huddle offense set a tempo the Raiders simply couldn’t match, and it showed up in the Broncos running game, which got progressively better as the game went on. Willis McGahee gained 119 yards on 19 carries and Ronnie Hillman, who had just eight yards on three touches coming in, had 31 yards on 10 attempts. Grade: D-minus

Special teams

A deflected punt by David Bruton, who got far enough inside Brandon Myers and made a perfectly timed leap, led to a short field Denver touchdown. Taiwan Jones had two nice stops on punt returns of Jim Leonhard but later got a face mask penalty. Punt returns? That would mean the Broncos actually punted. They didn’t. Grade C-minus

Coaching

The Raiders had all the reason in the world to come out in the second half ready to play, trailing just 10-6 when it could have been 20-3 and unraveled. Three-and-outs followed by Denver touchdowns. Sorry, but can’t agree with Dennis Allen’s “compete until the end” stance with Carson Palmer. He needed the hook for his health. Grade: F

cmon fellas, cant you find a better defense than claiming im racist? i didnt make those numbers up, but they do speak for themselves
    _____________
you’ve lost a lot of credibility. cam is the greatest when he wins awful when he loses he wins again and he’s destined to be the best ever. You tell us how you were right on RGIII when everybody new the guy was a star hence the advertising campaigns before his first pro game. You tell us last week that CP turned the corner but he’s a loser this week when I guarantee Aaron Rodgers or RGIII lose the game as well. You make it seem like you’re always right and so we should trust you on palmer but you touted troy smith and mike vick. I’m Mexican-American and i’d love to see Mark Sanchez to succeed because of he’s Mexican-American (although not against us) but i’m not gna lie to you and say he’s gonna be great. Why no touts of other ultra athletic young qbs Andrew Luck Ryan Tannehill Christian Ponder? lemme guess why?

Checkwa?? He’s the worst one out there, even if he is on the practice squad.

$$ never stopped Mr Davis from getting players the coaches wanted so quit the whining.

This. More than anything. Win or lose, this is not the Raiders that we see. The Real Oakland Raiders died with Al. What we have is an NFL expansion team. And it will feel even more like it when the powers that be move them to a shiny new stadium in LA.

They destroyed my Raiders in a quarter of a season. And turned them into the Jags.

    ^^^^^^^^
Yep. The master plan of Davis to get that new stadium in LA and sell half of the team to the AEG group.

I’m no DA apologist by any means, but dn you guys are takin his grin to heart. Too funny. Those guys are good friends. What did you expect, Dennis to hit Jim over the was with a pillow sack containing a coke can? Such a joke.

Leaders should lead from the front. It wasn’t just a grin, it was the Head Coach of the Raiders smiling and having a great time after the worst lost to the Broncos in 50 years. If Fox and Allen were such good friends then why was Fox calling blitzes in the 4th Quarter? If Allen doesn’t care about winning in Oakland why should his staff? Why should his players? The joke is that this guy has a job.

Palmer called most of the Steelers game at the line and Knapp called yesterdays game. You can directly attribute our lack of offense in our 3 LOSSES to Knapp’s playcalling.

If we finish 5-11, I can see us trading Carson to the Jets for their first round pick.

The only person dumb enough to give Raiders a #1 for Palmer is Hue.

    ====================

    Smart enough to go 8-8.

Will D.A. be good enough to match that?

    sigh

South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney would be a top 10 pick this year IF HE WAS ELIGIBLE. By the end of next year (2013), the 6-6, 256 pound pass rusher could prove a legitimate contender to be the No. 1 overall selection. – Rob Rang, NFLDraftScout.com

could we like – move on, now?

I think this is the earliest in the season to discuss the next year’s draft picks…very sad.
Here’s to the “New Era of Excrement.” Bargain basement GM, Bargain basement Coaching Staff, Bargain basement Free Agents…basement it is.

“No. 1: I want my guy,” McKenzie said. “My approach is old school. … We will win championships here.”

    Food for thought……..

He sounds so sure of himself, you’d almost be compelled to believe him if not for the moves he’s made and the fact he managed to take an 8-8 team which was a defensive stop away from winning the division and quickly turned them into the worst team in football.

Too bad this statement was after he fired Hue, and not prior to his hiring and true agenda sharing (HC, OC, & DC) all suspect. Things to come are aligned with this foolishness.

Sounds like Spuds is running out of time as well as Allen and say goodbye to Crybaby Palmer; What a waste period!! This team is stuck in loser mode. I bet Chucky and HueJax are laughing all over the place!! I’m very sure that Mark Davis has deep pockets? Hire another reject or bring back Chucky and Hue Jackson in some sort of capacity to help us out. So far thiis 2012 version sucks, period!!!
