DHB says everything going according to plan

Raiders wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey took another step toward a seemingly inevitable return on Oct. 14 by participating in practice Tuesday.

“Just out there, running routes, catching the ball, getting in a little practice,’’ Heyward-Bey said. “We’ve got a plan for me. Today was step No. 1, and I feel pretty good.’’

Heyward-Bey was knocked unconscious on Sept. 23 against the Pittsburgh Steelers by Ryan Mundy and also suffered a neck strain when he hit the ground. He was taken from the field in a motorized cart.

Asked if he was 100 percent, Heyward-Bey said, “I took a hard hit, man. I don’t know. (I was) good enough to practice.’’

Teammate Derek Hagan was happy to see Heyward-Bey back for a position group which has had its issues with injuries.

“It definitely was a plus for us just to have the whole group out there healthy going into the bye week,’’ Hagan said. “That’s the main thing going into the bye week you want everybody to be healthy and focusing on the job they have to do.’’

Despite the lopsided nature of a 37-6 loss to Denver, Heyward-Bey believes the offense is close to breaking loose.

`We’re real close. We’re one cut block away, we’re one cut away, one block down the field,’’ Heyward-Bey said. “ We showed a little bit of it against Pittsburgh and we had a little bit here and there. You just have to keep grinding. If you give up on things you’ll never see if it’s good or not.’’

– Ranked No. 2 in the NFL in rushing in 2010 and No. 7 in 2011, the Raiders are ranked dead last through four games with an average of 60.8 yards per game.

It’s less than half of the 131.9 yards per game Oakland averaged a year ago.

“It’s not where you want to be,’’ running back Mike Goodson said. “We’ve got a lot of competitors in here and it’s not sitting right with guys. We’re definitely out there working.’’

– Cornerback Shawntae Spencer (foot) and tackle Khalif Barnes (groin) did not practice and remain out indefinitely.

– The Raiders practice again Wednesday, and then are off through Sunday. They return to work Monday and take another day off before preparations for Atlanta begin in earnest.

Sam,…your Raiders are going on average 2-14 the next several years while the Niners compete for Superbowls during that time. Clearly you are the one wearing the dress,..a silver and black one.

    =====================

Only future your seeing is getting run out of the Coliseum if they dare start the Battle of the Bay again.

We’ll see – that last Super Bowl was a great one, oh yeah, that was Eli Manning. Alex Smith’s “Mr . Hyde” moment is coming….he’s just setting you guys up. But i’ll say your defense is tremendous.

RAIDERS ARE not far. Away from relevancy they were 8-8 last 2 years and with this new management it will take some time but next year its going to be whole different story , we will contend for the AfC w next year for sure .. Sadly, I have to agree. Before each game they play a sound/video clip that says ‘there are 31 teams in the NFL….then, there are the Oakland Raiders’. They might as well stop playing it because there are now 32 teams in the NFL. There is nothing that makes us unique. Despite sucking for the past decade, we used to have at least that. Well, no more.

We have a coaching staff that will get 3 years to make fools of themselves and all we can do is blog about it.

Another fact you fools need to get used to. Terrelle Pryor is never going to be anything for the Raiders. He isn’t going to run the wildcat. He isn’t going to take over for Palmer and save the season. He isn’t going to have a chance to compete for a starting gig next year.

Terrell Pryor was the last mistake by a dying man.

But of course, the over valuation of the ‘talent’ on our roster runs rampant.

They spent 100 hours a week together last year, Allen and Fox are great friends. This is their job. When the game is over, it’s over. They aren’t instantly going to hate each other. And who cares if Allen isn’t running up and down the field screaming at everyone, thats not his style, not his personality. A lot of coaches through history have been very stoic and composed no matter what is going on. It doesn’t mean they are ineffective. You know what you get when you constantly scream and yell? Looks to me like far too often the players are telegraphing their blitzes, not enough disguising it, then add into the fact that our secondary can’t maintain coverage and you offer the QB quick outlets to neutralize the blitz. Thirdly, the players blitzing just havent been very good at it, allowing themselves to get picked up to easily. It comes back the talent, we don’t have very much of it on the defensive side of the ball.

    GOOD AFTERNOON NATION !!!
    and mt GreenParty brothers !!!

  • http://ggeden.blogspot.com/ GG

Seems to me RM and the coaching staff are not made to feel accountable. New regime post-Al, sure they were given like a 3 year period of evaluation.

But due to that, that means they’re also going to be slow and resistant to change, experimentation. Like SNBPA said before, switching to a 3-4, reshuffling the OL, or others have said, activating Pryor and playing him to force DCs to gameplan against it. And personnel-wise, benching Seymour/McClain/Kelly.

There are things they can try to try to kick-start something.

This resistance to change thus also creates a sense of no accountability among the roster either. Seymour, Kelly, McClain continue to be trotted out there. It’s like RM/DA/etc are more biding their time, just putting the incumbent starters out there regardless if they’re performing or not, purely because they ‘might come good’, or because it ‘gives them the best chance to win — IF they perform well for that game’ seeing as they’re liable to clock off from game to game.

I don’t see accountability that was promised. Davis clearly wont pressure McKenzie, seeing as he hired him to do all this stuff, be the man, not have to be involved like he was last year with Hue Jackson.

But RM should pressure DA and DA should pressure the coaching staff and playing group. They continue to meander along with key playmakers not getting factored in to gameplans, reduced snaps, certain people inactive, same playcalling woes after lip-service the previous week about how “we have to improve, admit its been a problem, made some mistakes, so i have to get better”…but the same crap and mistakes gets repeated the next game.

This 1-2 year free ride that DA has, shows in his demeanor, words and lack of roster/coaching/scheme tweaks and changes. Problem with this is, the players will see all this accountability talk isn’t pure, and i bet deep down they are not happy with the offensive scheme (ZBS, WCO), and there’s the chance they all mail it in en masse eventually and DA cant do anything about it, cant blow up an entire 53 man roster given he created that situation by treating 2012 as a free ride for himself.

    ——–

Here’s a PFT article about the Panthers GM feeling the heat, expressing passion about hating to lose.

Despite high hopes for the 2012 season, the Carolina Panthers have plunged to 1-3. In Charlotte, G.M. Marty Hurney is catching most of the blame. He joined WFNZ’s Mac Attack on Wednesday morning to face the music.

And Hurney didn’t run from reality.

Asked if he’s on the hot seat, Hurney didn’t hesitate. “Of course,” Hurney said. “I’m the one that’s turning up the heat. This is my life and I can’t tell you the agony you go through every time you lose a game. Obviously, I believe in what we’re doing. And I do believe that we have talent and the coaching staff and the people to be good. But the bottom line is right now we’re 1-3. So I understand all the criticism. I don’t necessarily have to agree with everything that’s said, but I get it. My job’s to win football games, and we’re not doing that. . . . Nobody takes it harder than I do. . . . It’s like dying every time you lose a game. It just rips your heart out, it rips your guts out. And no one feels worse about it than I do. You feel like you let the whole region down.”

If owner Jerry Richardson decides to make a change, it won’t cost Richardson any extra money. “I don’t have a contract, by my choice. I’m in this thing to win,” Hurney said. “I’m not doing this for money. I’m doing this to win football games.”

Right now, he’s not. So right now, he’s not happy.

Asked if he’s “miserable,” Hurney didn’t hesitate: “I think that’s an understatement.”

Plenty of Panthers fans are miserable, too. The team gets a chance to turn things around a bit when the Seahawks come to town on Sunday.
