Raiders in midst of final practice before bye

No surprises, or new faces, on the practice field today, as the Raiders get in one last practice before breaking for four days during the bye week.
Cornerback Shawntae Spencer (foot), right offensive tackle Khalif Barnes (groin), defensive tackle Richard Seymour (unknown) and tight end Richard Gordon (hamstring) are the only players not taking part in the proceedings.
Wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey (concussion) is practicing for the second straight day. We spotted him running routes and catching passes, too, which bodes well for a return against the Atlanta Falcons on Oct. 14.
Not sure what’s up with Seymour not practicing. He was here Monday and Tuesday. Best guess is, coach Dennis Allen gave Seymour the day off so that Seymour could fly to Georgia to spend more time with his family. That has been the case in recent seasons.

– Word is circulating that the league will consider moving the Raiders-Jaguars game to Monday night, Oct. 22, if the A’s advance to the American League Championship Series.
The A’s could host Game 6 and or 7 that weekend, depending upon how things play out. Not worth worrying about this early, but be forewarned if you have tickets to that game.

    Jackson = a great play caller

    I would bring em back to run the offense. Thats about it.
    ===========================================

    If Jackson was as great a play caller as some of you think, Janikowsky would not have had such a great year. Jackson would set up for FG’s not TD’s. That’s one of the reasons why we lost. And let’s not even start about the goose eggs he kept putting up in the 2nd half of games.
    =============

    Who would you have running the offense right about now?

    Hue or Knapp?
    Its not even close.
    Knapp came in wit this BS zone scheme. Totally fked our offense up.
    Last year the problem wasn’t the offense, it was the defense.
    This year its both.

  • RaidingTexas

    Knapp may suck, but so did Hue. He had to go. Period. You guys need to move on from that sh!t.

    I don’t think there is ANY doubt the new regime has come here to put certain systems in place, got rid of some of the very high contracts and are in the process of seeing who fits and who doesn’t in the new org.

    This was not about taking an 8-8 team and trying to win a game or two more. This year was about installing the new regimes systems and seeing which players mesh. You don’t blow up a young 11-5 team. An 8-8 team? Yep.

    So you agree with Mistic that all that ails the Raiders offense is a bad QB?

    ===========================

    No. That’s why I’ve repeatedly said that Palmer isn’t the cause of the Raiders’ offensive woes.

    But if Geno Smith keeps playing the way he has been (he’s been the best player in CFB thus far), and the Raider scouts consider him the type of player who can carry a team, they’d be insane to pass on him just because they have a 32-year-old Carson Palmer.

    In pre-season, everytime I took the snap and dropped back, all I saw was a large swarm of bodies running around the field with no rhyme or reason.

    …I know you and 99% of the rest made the excuse the palmer needed dmac and moore then we would be light years ahead of the team we had last year.

    well it hasnt happend we have scored 13-14 and 6 in the losses, we are one of the worst 3rd down teams in football and that is where the qb makes his living.

    who the hell cares about jc?

    but since you brought it up the jc led 4-2 raiders were hands down the best team and with the best qb we have had since gannon. 12-7 undefeated in the division and number one in the division. the team has gone backwards ever since, 5-9 yes backwards

    That team was far far far better than what palmer has led.

    how can this be argued?

Continuity is what is preached all over the NFL. Now we here from the few that will abandon that concept with coach Hue Jackson and apply it with an unproven Reggie and DA. What hyporites!!

    As long as there aren’t any Calvin Johnson types in the draft, I’m cool with taking a flyer on Geno Smith if our scouts think he’s the real deal.

    FTR, I wanted Calvin back in 97. Much safer pick, and I side with lower risk over greater upside. Russell was a swing for the fences and a pop up to the shortstop.
