Raiders in midst of final practice before bye

By Steve Corkran
Wednesday, October 3rd, 2012 at 12:04 pm in Oakland Raiders.

No surprises, or new faces, on the practice field today, as the Raiders get in one last practice before breaking for four days during the bye week.
Cornerback Shawntae Spencer (foot), right offensive tackle Khalif Barnes (groin), defensive tackle Richard Seymour (unknown) and tight end Richard Gordon (hamstring) are the only players not taking part in the proceedings.
Wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey (concussion) is practicing for the second straight day. We spotted him running routes and catching passes, too, which bodes well for a return against the Atlanta Falcons on Oct. 14.
Not sure what’s up with Seymour not practicing. He was here Monday and Tuesday. Best guess is, coach Dennis Allen gave Seymour the day off so that Seymour could fly to Georgia to spend more time with his family. That has been the case in recent seasons.

– Word is circulating that the league will consider moving the Raiders-Jaguars game to Monday night, Oct. 22, if the A’s advance to the American League Championship Series.
The A’s could host Game 6 and or 7 that weekend, depending upon how things play out. Not worth worrying about this early, but be forewarned if you have tickets to that game.

    Yo, Mistic. Quit being racist.

    Palmer is athletic enough. Did you not WATCH last game? Dude was ballin, moving around the pocket, buying time in the end zone, boot-legged just fine.

    I can out-run him but he can out-athleticize me inside the pocket and on the move. Dude keeps his eyes down the field.

    Dmac is a poor fit for the zone scheme.
    ========================================

    Prior to this season, the best season McFadden had as a pro was in the zone system. So, once again, whoever keeps saying this just does not know what they are saying. But hey, we have the same Oline as last year.

    All this talk about DMAC fitting ZONE or POWER better, Excelling / Regressing, and his skill being brought into question……..

    I don’t know how many times I’ve seen him getting contact on the exchange from Palmer, or having 3-4 defenders in persuit as soon as he takes the pitch. Seems to me that it has more to do with SH*T A$$ blocking than anything else.

    Didn’t you watch the last game where early in the game Seymour knocks down two consecutive passes and then partially blocks the FG attempt? Seymour is not the problem. The other 10 guys are. But you knew that right?

    Ask the Patriots if they would choose an almost undefeated season rather than winning the Superbowl. That year I would rather be 9-7 and a Superbowl winner than almost undefeated. One game more does not sound unacceptable season.

    Yes. But they were still running Cables offense. ZBS. They didn’t go into the power scheme til the next year.

    Hue added power scheme into the fold and they wer runing both that season. However the only reason that became dmacs best is because he manged to stay healthy for 13 games, he was blowing that season away last season.

    One guy has played well all season, and played well in the last game. He is a vet. The team rewarded him by giving him one day off. Seems to make sense to me…So #111.

    The problem with the heavy breathing you expressed is Hue did prove to be worthy. Hue, not Reggie, not DA showed progress that was not made in years. You keep saying Hue did not and could not but he did. What are you happy about when it come to Reggie/DA. Just hope right? They have not proved anything to me yet.

    Raiders just fired the Head coach that gave them two decent seasons and you used impatient and consistant in your sentence. Interesting!

    ==========================

    Hue wasn’t the right guy to preside over a rebuild. And no matter what, it was going to be a rebuild. The Raiders lost the one guy who was in charge of all things football operations since the 60s.

    The Raiders needed a quiet, business-like approach to teach these players discipline and accountability – which for the young players drafted into the organization would be the first time they are taught these things.

    Hue Jackson and Al Davis both preached “win now”. To do so, they traded away the top 3 draft picks the Raiders had, and created an unsustainable salary cap situation. And it wasn’t enough for the Raiders to “win now”.

    And you wanted Hue Jackson to “build” on last season? With what? He’d still have to find a way to shed nearly $30 million to get under the salary cap. And he’d have no draft picks to restock the cupboard. And Hue Jackson is the guy you want to preside over those decisions? Laughable.

    The Raiders needed a real GM with actual front office experience. With a new GM comes new personnel – people who mesh with the GM’s vision of where the team needs to go. THIS is consistency – a consistent philosophy throughout the organization. The only way teams succeed in this league is when their front office, scouting department, coaching staff, and roster are all on the same page. This wasn’t going to happen with Hue Jackson running the show.

    You dont need probowers at every pos to moce the ball or score tds.. the regression is the direct result of poor coaching.

    =========================================

    Again as I have said in here many times before, the zone system is not just a zone system it is a combination of zone and power. If it is lst and goal from the one, teams are going to power block not zone block. It has always been that way, so defenses can’t get comfortable.

    With regards to Wylies comments, those comments kind of concern me. And what I mean by that is, when McFadden first got here, I thought the exact same thing Wylie is saying: you can just pitch the ball to McFadden he will scoot around the edge for five yards every time. And basically he can. But you can’t run your offense that way. To be a RB in the league, you have to be able to run between the tackles. That is what the new regime is trying to do with McFadden.

  • http://www.raiderettes.com Sullivan44

    Knapp was a bad pick at OC. With a defensive minded GM and HC, you need a damn good OC. That being said, Hue was not the guy either. Hue’s better than Knapp, but not so good as to where Reggie should have put off long term plans in order to keep him.

  • Dakota

    Knapp needs to go. Saunders would be a good choice, IF he’s willing to be a part of what McKenzie and Dennis Allen are trying to do. I have no reason to believe he’s not.

    I’ve stood up for Knapp out of loyalty to this new system, but I myself expressed doubts toward him being the top offensive guy in this organization back when this staff was put together. Loyalty makes you stupid, and I’ve fallen victim to it myself. Knapp is not a good OC. Runs a WCO and always winds up at 3rd and long. Inexcusable.

    Hue Jackson is not Vince Lombardi next to anyone on the planet. Hue’s better than Knapp, which isn’t hard to be. But that’s as far as it goes. Hue Jackson is not the long term answer for this team at head coach. Hue belongs on a team with a weak minded GM, and that’s not us, whether our GM is Reggie or Al.

    News flash: Had Al not passed away, he and Hue would be clashing by now. You’d have to be a fool not to believe it.
