Half the league uses either a true ZBS, or hybrid style blocking system, so I am sure Darren’s agent has informed him he can’t pout about the system.

  • inonewordraider

zbs takes a while to implement and it’s tough to defend against so should we be patient with it, tweak it or tear it down and start over?

We’ve had success with CP running no huddle, does that mean the O scheme is a good fit and we should be patient with Knapp possibly tweaking it, good fit but bad play calling thus we should allow Saunders to tweak it and call plays,or tear it up and start over?

  • J Hill

    DMac,

    What about Ross or Chekwa?

Huff was much better last week at corner, wouldn’t you say?

One of our LBs picked him off on that Decker TD, but did he give up anything else?

I have Hanson and Branch as the weak links in the secondary, but I doubt Branch is going anywhere.

Probably go with Huff, Gio, Branch, Lee, and Ross/Chekwa as my top 5 DBs.

  • J Hill

When you look at that link, you can see what they are talking about when they say we are literally one block away.

    Cmon Oline!!!!!

  • Macho Man Randy Savage

Please stop comparing DMac to Barry. Its unfair for everybody involved.

    Thanks,

The Pro Football Hall of Fame

  • DMAC

Haven’t got a chance to review games.
Who has payed close attention to our O-line?
Who would you say is the weakest link?
Veldy has played well at LT IMO.
Are Coup days over. Has it been difficult to switch sides on the line? Should Bergs take over?
Wiz was beastin last season at Guard. Played well at Center when called upon. Looks to be struggling in the new zone system. + Missed many reps. Maybe just putting it together.
Barnes seemed to be playing well, before his injury. + no false starts.
    Smith has struggled a it.

  • Just Fire Baby

I just don’t see how you tear it up and start over, and sell that to the defense to get max effort.

If the staff pretty much “gives up” so will the players, and that is not good for anybody.

  • Just Fire Baby

On those diagrams of the yellow line, red line stuff for good/bad blocking, seems that Briesel is involved with a lot of the red lines.

whats up there prez DMAC ??

  • Just Fire Baby

We were 1-3 and fairly hopeless in 2010, and as you hear it in here, that team nearly had a parade thrown for them, so not sure why so much doom and gloom now.

  • http://www.raiders.com Raider O

Good Link J and Guest123. The problem according to the article is 2 things:
1- OL not playing well in ZBS (Blame the coaches for that)
2- lack of vision from DMAC

If Spencer can’t go. I would give microphone Chekwa a call.
Huffy gives up waaay 2 much cushin on the outside. He needs to go back to FS, but wouldn’t mind seeing him there in the mean time.
Hanson gotta go! Period! Dude is suppose to be a nickel corner specialist and isn’t getting it done. Move Pat Lee to the slot.
    Don’t know schit about Ross.
What about Francies? At least he plays physical and can tackle.

  • Maxzombie

Barry ran for 170 yards in a playoff game in 93-94, and ran for 187 yards in a playoff sealing victory that same season.

And he was undoubtedly the best regular season rusher in all of football.

Has Darren EVER been even the best regular season rusher, in his division?

Again, dominating September and half of October is fine and all, but not really “elite” type of stuff.

I need to see a December, playoff-like moment, to move ANY PLAYER in the league into elite.

That’s why Matt Ryan isn’t elite, hasn’t won a playoff game.

OL not playing well in ZBS (Blame the coaches for that)

How is it the coaches fault that the RG and C have all those red lines attached to them?

At what point does the player take responsibilty for know their assignment?

    MJD = not elite
    Stephen Jackson = not elite
    CJ2K = not elite
    Michael Turner = not elite

Give me the Arian Foster’s who emerged last year in the playoffs, or a Ray Rice, or a Willis McGahee.

Guys who always play great in the regular season, and have had some moments under the bright lights of playoff football.

    ++++++++++

That 1-3 was followed by the miracle win against San Diego, the awful, flat performance against SF, the azz-whoopings of the Broncos and Seahawks and the Jacoby Ford Show against KC.

After the Atlanta game, Jacksonville, KC and Tampa Bay are teams that can be whooped on.

Truthfully, the more I think, the more I believe 4-4 isn’t necessarily farfetched even if it is unlikely.

There wasn’t 2 many problems w/ the O-line last year.
Damn near the same O-line. The line may not be cut out for the Knappy snappy zone or its just taking longer than expected.

  • Just Fire Baby

Well, I am off to the Casino, to enjoy the first night of the International Hot Air balloon fiesta.

Francies and Adams not being able to get on the field under thse circumstances is puzzling.

I see you guys discussing Branch earlier. Looks like those of us that wanted him to play on the 1 year tender were right, based on what we’ve see so far. The other camp said ‘oh no, sign him up long term and use the cap space to sign some studs’. Lol. Where are the studs, folks?

as a coach do you stay the course and wait/hope oline and dmac figure it out, add some power blocking that oline/dmac is comfortable with while continuing to implement, or scrap it?

  • DMAC

We need to add some more power blocking plays.
Knapp may have some nice plays drawn up, but is a horrible play caller.

    ————
lol Bradford looked terrible, he can thank AZ’s O-line and Mini Howie for the Win..Long applied pressure on each play!! Dang I wish we had a guy with that high a motor!! But what the hey, we gotta win with what we got. Kelly and Seymour better get real mean for ATL.

    DMAC

Yeah its a great read, really breaks down the ZBS and run blocking in general, to sum it all up. ZBS presents too many chances to make mistakes, and without a ’97-02 Denver Offensive Line, its hard to execute on the regular. Author believes during the bye week evaluation Allen/Mckenzie might tone it down and try to use more Power/angle runs, much like our O-coordinator from the past two years. I hope it works out, and I hope the Atlanta game is like last years Houston game where are Defense just doesn’t give up. It’s up to TK and Seymour…

  • J Hill

The first year of the old scheme some of you are talking about was ROUGH.

Last year was year 2 of that offense.

  • DJ Johnny

One of the biggest surprises is DMAC going for under 3 yds. a carry….and being healthy.

Wasn’t our biggest concern that he would get injured right away?

I’m no soothsayer but I did “predict” that McClain was going to be ineffective.

IMO…w/o beaking down every single play on tape, even the football layman can see how bad this guy is.

OCCASIONALLY he makes a play but it seems rarer and rarer.

Not only is he NOT effective, but he is an actual liability out there. His mere presence on the field causes discord and ineffectiveness for our defense.

IF DA is really doing an honest evaluation does he keep McClain out there or do we have no choice?

  • inonewordraider

anyone wanna scrap zbs because it’s not “Raider Football”? I mean wasn’t the thinking that we’re bigger stronger faster and meaner than you?

  • blackandsilverside

    Maxzombie,

Has Darren EVER been even the best regular season rusher, in his division?

Yes last year before he got hurt. He was the top back in th league.
    $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Comment #2 above is the most stupid statement I’ve read. DMAC’s performance was based on the Broncos and Jets’ games when they were in the cellar and virtually non-competetive.

DMAC has done little in this league. We should trade him while he still has value. An excellent and durable, and proven, CB would be worth DMAC’s value.

  • J Hill

    I don’t know fellas.

It’s right there diagramed up in red and yellow, lol.

Plays are there, it’s just literally someone blocking the wrong guy. Block the correct guy, big runs are there to be had like the run against Pitts with all yellow lines.

  • SilverNBlackPA

IF DA is really doing an honest evaluation does he keep McClain out there or do we have no choice?

    +++++++++

As of right now I think he has no choice. Goethel wouldn’t be any better, if as good.

When Curry returns it could be interesting, although it’s tough to get up to speed after not doing anything football related since, what, May?
