DT Kelly joins sidelined players

By Steve Corkran
Thursday, October 11th, 2012 at 12:05 pm in Oakland Raiders.

Defensive tackle Tommy Kelly is not practicing today as a result of a sore foot. Not sure if this qualifies as a setback, given he practiced in a limited capacity Wednesday.
Fellow starting defensive tackle Richard Seymour still is battling a sore knee. Therefore, it’s likely that primary backup Desmond Bryant will see more playing time inside, with rookie Christo Bilukidi also in line for more snaps.
The fact Kelly is watching practice bodes well for his playing Sunday. If his foot was severely hurt, it’s doubtful that he would be standing around on a cold day.

– Right offensive tackle Khalif Barnes (groin), cornerback Shawntae Spencer (foot) and tight end Richard Gordon (hamstring) are the only other players on the 53-man roster unable to practice today.
Of the three, Gordon is the one with a best chance of playing Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons. Even so, he hasn’t practiced at all this week, so coach Dennis Allen, no doubt, would feel a lot better about using Gordon if he gets to see him on the field Friday.

– This is the day of the week that offensive coordinator Greg Knapp and defensive coordinator Jason Tarver speak with the media.
So, stay tuned for their takes on how much progress the offense and defense made during the bye week and what changes they made, if any, to help jump-start their struggling units.

Our offense needed an identity from last year.

One week we rush for 170 yards, the next week 50.

One week we score 34 points, the next week 13.

Not saying we gained an identity so far, at least not a good one lol, but you couldn’t count on anything offensively last year.
    $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

That happened after we lost DMAC. He was 1st in yards and YPC before he was injured. You can’t say we didn’t have an identity when we were top 5 in rushing yards.

Hopefully he’ll be ready for the Jax game or after. IMO, he was playing the best outta our garbage secondary. Him going down, really took a blow to the D.

  13. JohnnyRaider Says:

Now is a good time to cut and try to get some draft picks for Kelly and Seymour now. Also not a bad idea to get rid of McClain now too. Raiders cut loose Meatoga a DT, need to bring him back and put him on the line in a rotation, guy was a beast for Cincy in preseason. We are getting no production out of Kelly and Seymour.

  18. RaiderDebo Says:

If we have to face a 5-0 team on Sunday, I’m glad it’s the Falcons. This team smells like a fraud to me. It took colossal fckups from Cam and Haruki Nakamura to escape at home against the Panthers. Palmer isn’t the run/pass threat Cam is, but I’ve got to think coming off a bye we’ve got some tricks up our sleeve. And if we can just get a little pressure on Capt. Longneck, he’ll fold like a tent. With the best supporting cast in the NFL around him, we’ve got to “cut off the head”. DA knows that. Have a feeling about this one. Gonna take the Raiders for $50 on the money line.

    ********************************

    Really?

So can you tell the difference when they are in the game or not, because I really can’t.

Seymour has a presence at times, I can see that sometimes. But it’s not like we will replace a Pro Bowl $14 millie per guy with some 7th round draft pick and hope it works.

Seymour will be replaced by a 1st round pick, or a failry expensive FA, ideally younger.

  63. Al_is_theraiders Says:

eastoak, youre right but i think da nuetered them with no penalties…id rather have them playing aggressive….

  64. LondonAl Says:

Nothing personal about Kelly but he has not made any real impact on the team since he became a starter. I think he’ll be cut at the end of the season unless he gets a truck load of sacks. As for Seymour he has been a non-factor for two seasons. His best play was socking Big Ben!

  65. Just Fire Baby Says:

The problem with Seymour, is that he does make plays, but they seem all too often to be in the first half, or even sometimes the first drive or two.

Where are the big 2nd half plays? Other than the blocked kicks in KC, I can’t think of any.

I think he got the sack against Ben late, but that was more of a coverage sack and Ben ran into him, more than an overwhelming pass rush that blew up a play.

Our defensive line has been a team strength the last few years. Not so much this year. Shaughnessy really has been ineffectual which is a bit of a surprise. Many a person thought this would be the breakout year for Matt and expected to see him at the Justin Smith/Jared Allen level.

Nothing lost with both Kelly and Dick Seymour not practicing, in fact they shouldn’t be on the field against the ATL on Sunday if they didn’t practice during the week, but we all know Junior, both will start and again be worthless.

  86. Just Fire Baby Says:

Skins say they aren’t going to change their offense.

Well, look forward to about 35 career starts for RGIII, not quite the ROI you were looking for on the draft.

You can tell me he is 6′2, 215 all day until your blue in the face, he looks small on the field, and gets decleated in the pocket more than any other QB I could remember.

You have to play him in an NFL offense, he can spin it beautifully. What’s the point of this rinky-dink circus act, it’s not like he is running this option breaking off 35 yard runs.

Kell, I noticed on your resume that you have no job listed between 1991 and 2004. Were you unemployed for 13 years?

Make sure to hurry back after dinner, tell us about dessert…and when the staff yells at you to bus tables before they realize you arent a busboy anymore,..take it easy on them.

Idk Gdog, I am still entirely unimpressed wit the special teams. They are better than week1’s complete $hitting of the bed, but still not worthy. Lechler’s been aaverage at best. Jano’s got a bum groin which may never be the same. Coverage is better, but returns have been a flag fest or stupid fair catches and run outs of the endzone. We have lost battle of field position miserably this season. Even in the B&B offense we had that going for us….
