Kelly returns to practice, Carter on verge of making debut

By Steve Corkran
Friday, October 12th, 2012 at 11:48 am in Oakland Raiders.

Defensive tackle Tommy Kelly is practicing today after missing one day with a sore foot. Therefore, it’s likely that Kelly will play Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons.
It’s also looking more and more likely that defensive end Andre Carter is going to make his Raiders debut Sunday. He is getting reps with the first-team defense at right end today in practice.
Coach Dennis Allen said Thursday that he isn’t certain if Carter is ready to play in a game for the first time since he suffered a season-ending quadriceps injury for the Patriots last season.
In this case, actions speak louder than words. The smart money says, you will see Carter on the field in obvious passing situations and third-down passing downs Sunday.

– Right offensive tackle Khalif Barnes (groin), cornerback Shawntae Spencer (foot) and tight end Richard Gordon (hamstring) aren’t practicing today for the third straight day.
Given that, it’s unlikely that any of the aforementioned trio will play Sunday. Allen will announce their status to the media in about an hour or so.
So, look for Willie Smith to make his third straight start at right offensive tackle, Michael Huff to do likewise at left cornerback and David Ausberry and Brandon Myers to get more reps if Gordon doesn’t make a speedy recovery.
Beyond that, the Raiders are relatively healthy coming off the bye week.

– The Raiders are in the midst of a nine-game losing streak the game after a bye. They lost those games by an average of 14 points.

Agree. 100% I think the fear or tarver & DA was they didn;t have strong enough personnel at CB to do so… but i think they could help the pass rush and force Ryan to make better throws deeper down the field rather than easy accurate throws wide open under 10 yards.

I think the winner will ultimately be at around 31-34 points for sure ….. although I think OAK will put up a lot of points. 24-34 points.

I see a similar game like PITT …. high scoring and we can only win by forcing turnovers to get stops.

I like the idea of more bump and run……just not this week.

There isn’t anyone in the NFL who beats bump and run better than Roddy White.

Dude was a HS wrestler and you can’t “bump” him at the LOS, and really we can’t run with him either.

Just play 10 yards off him, tackle him after the catch and quite frankly just hope the Falcons get bored and force something.

Dmac to the rescue? IM not so sure about that, but i ma sure he needs the ball more. a few of us have noticed that the raiders are far better when palmers pass attempts are limited going back to last year. This year palmer has been much better with ball security and the dink and dunk passing game of knapps has done wonders for him. So limitining his attempts coulped with keeping the passing game short may help palmer be even more efficient Less is more in palmer’s case.

Of course the real reason why the above points are important is because now the focal point of the offense is on the teams best player dmac. I have always thought he was better the more carries he gets, and can punish teams in the 4th quarter. By reigning in palmer even further you can force feed dmac and finally begin installing the stubborn run first mentality.

Im glad to see that the local media which first touted dmac and palmer as a dynamic duo, have now dialed it back to a feed dmac mantra. Im glad to see the coaches have finally figured out that palmer cant do it, throwing the ball all over the field.

The hard part is, that the defense will need to keep the explosive atlanta falcon offense from doing their quick strike deal that they love.

personally i dont think the raider run game will be enough this week and the rush yards against atlanta are a bit over blown. That team wins on offense and pass defense. they score fast, and keep the other team from doing the same. While teams run between the 20’s and kick field goals, atlanta strikes from 50 yards away with julio and roddy.

I hope our no name dbs pack some advil, they will be soar.

  27. Mistic1 Tha Supavillain Says:

cant play bump and run if you didnt notice we dont have press man corners any more.

hansen and the rest of the no names will get rag dolled to the turf by roddy and julio.

Nor do they have the speed to stay with them down the field or across the field, if the some how survive and avoid being steam rolled when making their initial chuck at the line of scrimage.

That and our coaching staff sucks.

    Falcons 38

    Raiders 10

  30. raiderinparadise Says:

Obvioulsy this is a tough game on the road. But if you look at ATL top to bottom this season, the defense has re-created itself to cause turnovers becuase they really aren’t strong at stopping the run or pass.

They cause turnovers and control the clock time-of-possesion.

Thats the game….if big IF, oak can run (they give up 5.4 a carry on season) it will be a close game.

suck a D blowout predictors, when oak wins dont come into this blog on monday.

I don’t know about the penalties, but the cliche’s I can believe.

DA: “First and foremost my hats off to the Atlanta Falcons organization. They did a great job of preparing against us and taking away the things we like to do both offensively and defensively”.

“I think there’s a few good things we can take away from the game.”

“Well go back and watch the film and see if there’s areas where we can get better.”

“We just didn’t get it done today.”

Q: We noticed you didn’t make any roster adjustments or implement anything different as far as play calling or scheme today. After today, do you foresee making any changes going forward?

DA: “No, not at all. We have alot of faith and trust in Coach Knapp and his system. I’ve seen it work before”.

Q: This is for Carson, at 1-4 do you still see this as a playoff team at this point?

    CP: “Oh absolutely”.

  34. RaidersAllday_LtsGeTit Says:

like i said.. the Raiders could be up 10 with 5 minutes to go.

Ive see the Falcons come back.. throwing deep deep passes to JONES or Rodney white. We dont have the DBACKS to cover em. SIMPLE AS THAT.

True. And they may be 5-0 but they have beaten a bunch of cellar dwellers. And their Oline is not the best. There are some things we can exploit here.

  51. Mistic1 Tha Supavillain Says:

better hide the fact that our corners cant cover man to man, by playing zone. Dont worry though these reject corners do make up for not being able to cover, by also not tackling.

  52. DJ Johnny Says:

There are cases where you don’t force a scheme on players.

If Manning had gone to the Eagles they would not be forcing him to run the Mike Vick style offense. They would adjust to what Manning likes to do.

They’ve invested alot in Palmer and DMAC…IF THEY WERE SMART they would tailor the offense to suit those guys until such a time arises that they DO have the personnel to run a different scheme better.

Or…if it’s just some schlep they have no investment in at QB or RB.

There is no need to discuss what weaknesses the falcons seem to have, we dont have the minerals to exploit them. The falcon o line is decent not great, but our d line is obscenely over rated. that d line couldnt exploit a strung out crack ho with a promise free highs for life.

besides i cant say enough that if you are sizing up the falcon defense you may be fooled into believing they dont play well. The falcons are what the colts used to be, explosive offense, bend dont break defense, and opportunistic taking the ball away. they want to out score you and p[lay with the lead them allow the amoeba defense to pressure and create turnovers.

    major problems match ups

white and jones vs our secondary.

    turner vs romac

falcons o line vs our d line

    the amoeba defense vs palmer

atl return game vs our coverage team

Dmac must carry often and we will need to score td’s. Runnning for 150 yards winning time of possession will not help if we are kicking field goals, which is exactly how the falcons like to play it.

finish this sentence if our team doesn’t compete…

…then i will be forced to watch Wondeful World of Disney with my family Sun. nite cuz I can’t stand to watch the highlights of other teams dancing around the end zones on us.

We might have hope depending how our new pash rushers turn out.

Carter / SOTO… if they on that crunk juice we might have a chance

    77,

Have u heard that there’s a chance So’oto will actually play on Sunday?

    major problems match ups

white and jones vs our secondary.

    turner vs romac

falcons o line vs our d line

    the amoeba defense vs palmer

atl return game vs our coverage team
    ======================================

The matchup is going to be their Oline versus our Dline. While their WR’s are certainly very very good, not to mention Tony Gonzalez, our corners are improving. It is the lack of ANY pass rush that is killing the secondary. With Andre Carter and So’oto coming in the last two weeks that has to help.

We now have DHB, Moore, Hagan, Streator on the same page. Myers is looking spectacular, Ausberry is emerging and don’t look now, but here comes Marcel Reece. The only player on offense I am concerned with is McFadden.

Special teams breakdowns could be the issue in this game.

On another note it was hard watching the A’s season come to an end yesterday. But damn proud of the fight in em.

Were suppose to finish in last place.. but won 94 games.. played as a team .. worked hard alot of rookies and guys harldy making big$$$ yet they earned every cent they were paid n more.

Won AL west.. took a high payroll team into deep waters. Oakland A’s great season.

All us fans ask of these Raiders is that they try and go all out.
