Kelly returns to practice, Carter on verge of making debut

By Steve Corkran
Friday, October 12th, 2012 at 11:48 am in Oakland Raiders.

Defensive tackle Tommy Kelly is practicing today after missing one day with a sore foot. Therefore, it’s likely that Kelly will play Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons.
It’s also looking more and more likely that defensive end Andre Carter is going to make his Raiders debut Sunday. He is getting reps with the first-team defense at right end today in practice.
Coach Dennis Allen said Thursday that he isn’t certain if Carter is ready to play in a game for the first time since he suffered a season-ending quadriceps injury for the Patriots last season.
In this case, actions speak louder than words. The smart money says, you will see Carter on the field in obvious passing situations and third-down passing downs Sunday.

– Right offensive tackle Khalif Barnes (groin), cornerback Shawntae Spencer (foot) and tight end Richard Gordon (hamstring) aren’t practicing today for the third straight day.
Given that, it’s unlikely that any of the aforementioned trio will play Sunday. Allen will announce their status to the media in about an hour or so.
So, look for Willie Smith to make his third straight start at right offensive tackle, Michael Huff to do likewise at left cornerback and David Ausberry and Brandon Myers to get more reps if Gordon doesn’t make a speedy recovery.
Beyond that, the Raiders are relatively healthy coming off the bye week.

– The Raiders are in the midst of a nine-game losing streak the game after a bye. They lost those games by an average of 14 points.

I HAVE to believe that it will be there; that all my frustration and heartache will be rewarded one day. Cause you know DAMN well, that when this thing turns around, you’re gonna see Raider shirts and flags coming outta the woodwork. I’m gonna say “BULLSH*T MUF*KA. Where were you guys when I was the ONLY one Reppin’ Silver and Black at the sports bar. Every Game, every YEAR. Once in awhile another Nation Brother would walk in and we’d sit together; watching the Horde of Steeler Fans roaring and slapping hands with each other. Hearing the entire bar erupt in laughter during halftime when they showed the Replay of our Kick retrun guys bumping into each other and falling on the ground before the ball arrives.

The taste will be that much sweeter when they are a winning franchize because I was stead fast and never abandoned.

Mix in some bump and run. Tired of being killed off slowly. Even with pressure we are so far off they can just get rid of the ball quickly.

Agree. 100% I think the fear or tarver & DA was they didn;t have strong enough personnel at CB to do so… but i think they could help the pass rush and force Ryan to make better throws deeper down the field rather than easy accurate throws wide open under 10 yards.

I think the winner will ultimately be at around 31-34 points for sure ….. although I think OAK will put up a lot of points. 24-34 points.

I see a similar game like PITT …. high scoring and we can only win by forcing turnovers to get stops.

  • Just Fire Baby

I like the idea of more bump and run……just not this week.

There isn’t anyone in the NFL who beats bump and run better than Roddy White.

Dude was a HS wrestler and you can’t “bump” him at the LOS, and really we can’t run with him either.

Just play 10 yards off him, tackle him after the catch and quite frankly just hope the Falcons get bored and force something.

Im going to have the shakes during this game, much like the ones I had during the Pitt game. This is it boys! Lets f**king go!!!

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) — Consumer sentiment has jumped up again, pushing past analysts’ expectations to stand at the highest level in more than five years, according to data released Friday.

The University of Michigan-Thomson Reuters sentiment gauge rose to 83.1 in a preliminary October reading — the highest level since September 2007 — from a final September reading of 78.3.

Dmac to the rescue? IM not so sure about that, but i ma sure he needs the ball more. a few of us have noticed that the raiders are far better when palmers pass attempts are limited going back to last year. This year palmer has been much better with ball security and the dink and dunk passing game of knapps has done wonders for him. So limitining his attempts coulped with keeping the passing game short may help palmer be even more efficient Less is more in palmer’s case.

Of course the real reason why the above points are important is because now the focal point of the offense is on the teams best player dmac. I have always thought he was better the more carries he gets, and can punish teams in the 4th quarter. By reigning in palmer even further you can force feed dmac and finally begin installing the stubborn run first mentality.

Im glad to see that the local media which first touted dmac and palmer as a dynamic duo, have now dialed it back to a feed dmac mantra. Im glad to see the coaches have finally figured out that palmer cant do it, throwing the ball all over the field.

The hard part is, that the defense will need to keep the explosive atlanta falcon offense from doing their quick strike deal that they love.

personally i dont think the raider run game will be enough this week and the rush yards against atlanta are a bit over blown. That team wins on offense and pass defense. they score fast, and keep the other team from doing the same. While teams run between the 20’s and kick field goals, atlanta strikes from 50 yards away with julio and roddy.

I hope our no name dbs pack some advil, they will be soar.

  • Mistic1 Tha Supavillain

cant play bump and run if you didnt notice we dont have press man corners any more.

hansen and the rest of the no names will get rag dolled to the turf by roddy and julio.

Nor do they have the speed to stay with them down the field or across the field, if the some how survive and avoid being steam rolled when making their initial chuck at the line of scrimage.

Bump and run without uncle al’s corners spells sure fire disatster

lol at anyone thinking the Raiders could win this game. 5-0 falcons on the road.

Raiders have no heart or desire to win. I see alot of check cashers still on this team especially on defense. Until that changes.. shyytt will stay the same.

That and our coaching staff sucks.

    Falcons 38

    Raiders 10

  • raiderinparadise

Obvioulsy this is a tough game on the road. But if you look at ATL top to bottom this season, the defense has re-created itself to cause turnovers becuase they really aren’t strong at stopping the run or pass.

They cause turnovers and control the clock time-of-possesion.

Thats the game….if big IF, oak can run (they give up 5.4 a carry on season) it will be a close game.

suck a D blowout predictors, when oak wins dont come into this blog on monday.

    Keys to victory

    1. Raiders get penalized atleast 10 times (not joking)

    2. DMC gets atleast 20 touches for atleast 150 yards

    3. Defense must force atleast 2 turnovers and atleast 4 sacks

    4. have to produce 1 huge special team play

Easy as that, we got this man

I don’t know about the penalties, but the cliche’s I can believe.

DA: “First and foremost my hats off to the Atlanta Falcons organization. They did a great job of preparing against us and taking away the things we like to do both offensively and defensively”.

“I think there’s a few good things we can take away from the game.”

“Well go back and watch the film and see if there’s areas where we can get better.”

“We just didn’t get it done today.”

Q: We noticed you didn’t make any roster adjustments or implement anything different as far as play calling or scheme today. After today, do you foresee making any changes going forward?

DA: “No, not at all. We have alot of faith and trust in Coach Knapp and his system. I’ve seen it work before”.

Q: This is for Carson, at 1-4 do you still see this as a playoff team at this point?

    CP: “Oh absolutely”.

  • RaidersAllday_LtsGeTit

like i said.. the Raiders could be up 10 with 5 minutes to go.

Ive see the Falcons come back.. throwing deep deep passes to JONES or Rodney white. We dont have the DBACKS to cover em. SIMPLE AS THAT.

“A FAN KNOWS THE TEAM” ??????????

being a fan is all about being a part of something that you have no control over, the highs-the lows, the comebacks, sleepers, big wins, ugly losses, upsets, memories you build and standing by your team he whole way with the faith that they can always win.

the negatives are always there, always will be, even when your winning …. but to dwell in them is what breaks your back.

No one will be happier than me if the Raiders pull this off, but it just has that Oklahoma vs. Kent State feel to it.

Of course Kent St. CAN win. Anytime you put 11 guys vs. 11 guys on the field to play, ANYTHING can happen.

I’m still pretty upset about our azzes handed to us last wk. by Denver…and the game with Miami…the SD game…i’m over pretty much.

Rooting for your team is different than EXPECTING them to win.

We still root for ‘em though and that is what i intend to do.

I must’ve mistaken this blog for being about serious football talk,. I didn’t realize if you don’t blindly predict Raider victories every week…and really feel as though they are gonna win you might have your “card” taken away.

Yes. The Raiders are the best team in the league and will easily win against Atlanta and every game after that.

With all the misery I have gone through with this team in the past…there is no way someone is gonna tell me I don’t have the right to be happy if they win…just becuz I didn’t predict they would.

    Yes. Raiders win 50 -2.

It’s also not the same players. And believe me, if you know successful NFL people they will want the players to bend to their scheme, not the other way around. And if the players won’t bend to their scheme, they will find players that will. That’s what you are seeing here. And frankly I find that refreshing.
