Atlanta drew even in the third quarter but the Raiders defensive forced a 20-yard Matt Bryant field goal in a goal-to-go situation to keep it anyone’s game going into the fourth quarter.
John Abraham hit Carson Palmer with a blindside sack that defensive end Ray Edwards recovered and took to the 2-yard line. Atlanta would never get any closer than the 1, with Rolando McClain stuffing Jason Snelling on third-and-inches following an Oakland neutral zone infraction.

On defense less romac & less lee meant vastly improved.

Greg NAP is a huge reason Raiders loss. Raiders should have won in a blowout.. but not being able to move the ball. Predictable vanilla play calling, and not scoring from the 1 yard line was huge.
Also the offense fouls. Also PALMER lol did i mention palmer?? The guy sucks in his mobility …. and that pick 6 was awful

The Raiders were the better team out on the field today but they still found a way to loose. There is no such thing as a moral victory, but still they should take from this game against an undefeated team on the road that they can play with anybody and are capable of beating anybody. They just have to not let it happen again. It is not about the other team. It is about them going out and winning. Even though it was a loss, I still think this game could mark a turn around if they make it so.

The problem is the OLine play is atrocious. It’s also pretty apparent McFadden just doesn’t fit the ZBS. I think it’s because he is not shifty, he’s a downhill runner and having to wait, see the hole, and then accelerate is not what he does.

Knapp runs a conservative offense and tries to be run oriented playing this complicated mess that the players obviously don’t get.
Defense played about as perfect as one could ask…the coaches just freekn punted the game with their untimely decision making.
DMAC is just a guy now because neither he nor the o-line can execute the ZBS; DHB adds nothing in the pass game…. and the o-line can’t pass block well enough to go pass heavy

Plenty of change, D.A thought it was a good idea to bring in Knapp, which he’ll regret in the long run but I’ll take the improvements as they come. Both our starting cb’s out and we still stayed in this game. I’m mad that we loss but will be even more pissed if we don’t build on where we improved.

I can’t agree. Can’t go most of the 2nd half with zero points, especially with Defense playing well.
They can’t get DMAC going….he’s not the 3 yard per carry back…might as well go get someone like Brandon Jacobs if they want to try to wear out defenses.
The o-line lost the game for the offense…several explosive plays called back due to blatant holds..
As Method said, the Reece hold really hurt momentum early and then the untimely penalties sealed the deal.

Parsons didn’t “start” the game and Willie Smith actually started a few games for the Redskins last year and has experience in the zbs
Injuries are a part of the game. Brisiel & Barnes weren’t benched bro. They were too hurt to play. It happens. Rarely do you replace starters with backups and don’t miss a beat. Parsons was on our practice squad last year and Smith was claimed off waivers.

The single most important person to the success of this team is by far Gregg Knapp. he has single handedly tuned this O and the line into a fucn joke and the laughing stock of the N.F.L. this organization can do its self a favor and fire him yesterday. Well, that one was just like many other. A very tough loss to swallow. We almost had them, and as they say, there’s no moral victories, but I think the fact that we came out and played with heart and didn’t fold over, and the way our D played, and how our O got a last minute TD to tie the game, I think all those things are worth something to be positive about. But a loss is a loss. And the fact that we were not able to finish both at the endzone and the second half, still remains a big concern.
Overall though, no one can really say we didn’t come to play today, or that we were not ready. I think this was the most competitive we have been after a bye in a while. Specially considering the opponent.

AFC is weak this year with Bmore and NE being the only power house teams. if we were still running last years O the D would be better by default and any D would have trouble stoping us with CP3 with a full offseason under hues O with Dmac schit woulda been scary how cant alex7 see this.

It sucks to lose, but there was improvement today. Atlanta is one of the best teams in the league. Moving the ball for us isn’t an issue. Scoring is a huge problem. I’m trying to be objective and patient with Knapp, but it’s hard to believe in him.

Before you all flip out and say I’m nuts hear me out. If Fagan had spiked the ball after his big play before our last TD there is ABSOLUTELY NO DOUBT he gets a 15 yd flag.
Fast-forward to game winning FG. Play before we call time out…and what 5-10 SECONDS OR SO PASSES AND THIS ASSHAT KICKS THE BALL ANYWAY. CLEARLY NOT EVEN CLOSE.

DMC has lousy field vision and almost always makes the wrong cut in traffic. Our O-line wsucked pretty hard today but we really could have won this game. Bummer.

Bullsheet, the D-line played very well. Palmer has 353yds passing. They Come back to tie the game with 40 seconds left.
Then go into Prevent D and allow Atlanta to walk downfield for the FG.

Can’t wait to hear the excuses from the Whiner fans when they lose this week. With a much more undermanned D, we go cross country and almost beat an undefeated team. No reason the Whiners should lose at home against a team coming cross country. If they’re that great, of course.

I thought that was a great game. DA had the team ready to play after a bye and traveling back east. Those are big pluses in my book and the MS is ironing out that defense. They stopped the run all day and the front four got pressure.
DA is going to be a great Raider coach. Reggie will get him great players. Team played real hard all game.

Sure, DMC did have big runs called back by holds, but Goodson’s run late in the fourth quarter, there was a gaping hole and he blew threw it for big yardage.

Crushing. Just brutal. Team played with a lot of heart! We had those guys. To many penalties. Plain and simple, we killed ourselves. Some really nice play today too: Streeter’s catch, Hagan with some nice grabs, Goodson, etc. Carson made some nice throw too.
Live in Charlotte, and have always liked Goodson. Always. Had fumbling problems with the Panthers, but the guy can play. Was very excited when we picked him up. I knew it was a good pick-up. Problem is, nobody on here knew who he was. Unless you live in Charlotte, you wouldn’t know much about Mike Goodson. Just not a big name. But, the guy can play.

This was our first regular season game, we just needed 2 preseasons (8 games) to finally get close to what DA and Reggie thought our team could be.

I was hard on the coaching staff the first couple of weeks, but I have come to the conclusion that they are doing the best they can with the talent they have…
The Defense was decimated in the offseason due to horrible contracts and the salary cap.
The CBs that were signed to replace the 2 starters are both hurt and they have Safeties and practice squad guys playing CB.
The O-line is bad. They are learning a new system that always means mistakes and growing pains, but its bigger than that. They just aren’t that talented at some positions. Veldheer got pushed around like a little girl when he wasn’t holding or getting false starts.
The WRs are inconsistent. They make spectacular plays at times but they sometimes disappear in critical moments.
It will take Reggie and company a few years to get the talent to compete for a title.

Goodson looks WAAAY more comfortable in the ZBS than McFadden. DMAC just isn’t the type to make the quick cut back or hop step. IF we are committed to ZBS (and I hate it as much as many of yall), then I think it should be a time share. Goodson has earned the right to see some more carries.

Justin Fargas was one of the most impatient running backs in his day, yet, his crash-test-dummy style was successful in Knapp’s and Cable’s zone blocking scheme.
The more and more I watch Mike Goodson carry the ball for yardage, the more and more I believe the problem isn’t the scheme, it’s the personnel.
Darren McFadden is a highlight waiting to happen and I love watching No. 20 carry the rock.
But, if the Raiders are truly committed to the ZBS, Run DMC just isn’t the back Oakland needs.

Their D is stout, but definitely beatable. They’ve played garbage teams the past few weeks and did what they should. They lost to a very questionable Vikings team, regardless of their record, that they should’ve handled easily. They’re playing a team at home that had to travel cross country, regardless of direction.
If they are as GREAT as y’all swear by, they should be at least winning in this game, if not coasting. But they’re not. As of now, they’re getting that bottom spanked.
All I’m saying, if you’re gonna talk trash, make sure the team is capable of actually backing it up. This team is a smoke screen. Pure and simple.

If anything, Palmer’s fault on that play was locking on to the right side and onto Denarius Moore almost immediately and not giving a look-off.
However, the Raiders were moving and Palmer was feeling it. He threw it, it was a Pick Six.
Yet Palmer gets back in the huddle and leads the team down the field for a game-tying TD.

I was in the postgame when he was the Bengals QB when Cincy lost to Oakland (the game in which Brandon Myers stripped the ball on the ensuing kickoff after the Raiders tied the game).
I was there doing a story on the Bengals’ Rey Maualuga and Maurice Purify (both Eureka High grads).
In the postgame, Palmer blamed the loss on himself. (Said the sack he took — Routt coming in and dropping him — in the red zone cost them the game.)

Well, I called it. Although I didn’t think it would be this close. Give it up to our defense. They’re for real, as a lot of us have known all along.
Palmer’s pick was debilitating. We had the undefeated Falcons down with our foot on their throat with a couple of minutes left. And just like that, Carson Palmer removes all doubt that he will not be the next Rich Gannon. Carson Palmer folks is Carson Palmer. And he only got the big play to Hagan to set up the last TD because Atlanta’s secondary miscommunicated and got crossed up. Send him back to Cincy, to be with the coach who made “the best trade ever” for him.
We will build on this defensive performance, even with one of the worst offenses in football.

McClain was de facto benched for the first half, and watched the defense play better without him. He had some decent plays in the second half.
Maybe the light’s finally turned on for him. We’ll find out next week. If it has, GREAT! If not, Curry should be back after Jacksonville.

Watching the replay from the end zone looking onto the field view, I clearly see Huff fly in and Rolando didn’t charge forward until Huff got a piece of the runner. All 6-foot-5 of McClain was shuffling to his right while Huff and Burris flew in to stop the play.
Not what I expected from a mike linebacker.

How many of you out there believe McFadden will resign with us after this year. And if you think he won’t, do you think it is worth trading him now? We got one week to decide. Of course take into account the quality of player he is, how he is being used, his past success, injuries, and our apparent commitment to the zbs.
I am not in any way promoting the idea of trading him, just bringing up a thought that if we are going zbs all the way, and it is obvious now that he doesn’t fit the system, would we be better off trading him now and getting good value for him, or just simply waiting to see if he can learn to run in this system, then at the end of the season risk losing him and get nothing in return.

I’ve had this discussion with many friends and other fans.
If the Raiders do stick with the zone blocking scheme, McFadden probably looks elsewhere when he’s a free agent, so why not at least entertain the idea of a trade.
Reggie McKenzie should make some calls, see what (if anything) is out there in terms of what he can get in return and think about it.
I love watching No. 20 on gamedays. But, it would be more beneficial to him if he went to a team that employs a power-based blocking scheme. And it would be beneficial for us as fans so we don’t have to watch an entertaining player flounder in Oakland.

The ZBS relies on backs who will hit the hole when they’re supposed to, and DMAC always hits it early or late. He’s better in angle-blocking, where exact timing isn’t as important.

McFadden should average about one breakaway play per game, with the talk that surrounds him. He rarely does anything spectacular. Makes some decent runs, usually followed by several 2 yard gains.

While the refs didn’t cost us this game, no game is ever that one sided.
I like the fact that we were in the game all the way and could have won it.
I hate the prevent defense and the “icing the kicker” calls.
