End 3rd qtr: Raiders 13, Falcons 13

Atlanta drew even in the third quarter but the Raiders defensive forced a 20-yard Matt Bryant field goal in a goal-to-go situation to keep it anyone’s game going into the fourth quarter.

John Abraham hit Carson Palmer with a blindside sack that defensive end Ray Edwards recovered and took to the 2-yard line. Atlanta would never get any closer than the 1, with Rolando McClain stuffing Jason Snelling on third-and-inches following an Oakland neutral zone infraction.

No way Giants score a TD here. Can’t happen.

  • jackasspuria

Justin Fargas was one of the most impatient running backs in his day, yet, his crash-test-dummy style was successful in Knapp’s and Cable’s zone blocking scheme.

The more and more I watch Mike Goodson carry the ball for yardage, the more and more I believe the problem isn’t the scheme, it’s the personnel.

Darren McFadden is a highlight waiting to happen and I love watching No. 20 carry the rock.

But, if the Raiders are truly committed to the ZBS, Run DMC just isn’t the back Oakland needs.

  • alex7

    Robert Griffin

Two more TDs today. Redskins up big.

Not bad for a “system” QB.

  • ChrisinNC

Whoops. Crap. ’85 Bears gave up a TD to injury prone back.

Hey Amy, where’d you run off to? Let’s talk some Whiner dominance and dynasty here.

    LOL! 😉

  • jackasspuria

“Put the blame on me. It’s completely my fault.” — Carson Palmer regarding the loss in the postgame presser.

    Thoughts anyone?

I love DMAC but if this is case, why not trade him and get something in return? It only makes sense if he will never be productive in the ZBS.

  • realtruraider

Damn this is lookin like my worst NFL picks this season, fkin horrible week, last week I only got one wrong, this week might only get 5 right smh

  • alex7

are there any RBs that aren’t “injury-prone”?

Forte, AP, Foster, McCoy, DMac, Bradshaw, Jamaal Charles, Gore…

  • jackasspuria

If it is indeed the case (ZBS is here to stick) I agree, Reggie McKenzie should make some calls and see what he can get for DMC. Get one of the teams (if any) that have two first round picks to give up one.

  • MiamiRaider78

When he’s not on hitting the floor after a sack, CP3 is a stand up guy. Way to take the blame even though its a team effort.

  • realtruraider

Thats what a TRU LEADER and QB says, I love it

  • RaidingTexas

You’re such a trolling tool, Alex. I didn’t say that every QB that played in a “system” can’t be an NFL QB. I am saying there are “system QBs” that are only great in college because of the system.

I’m a believer that you can tell a lot about a QB by the way he talks. He either sounds intelligent, or he doesn’t. Absolutely RG3 is an intelligent guy. He talks very much like one. And I also believe he will be a great NFL QB.

Geno, on the other hand, sounds like Vince fkn Young when he talks. Just stupid as stupid can be.

No thanks. We don’t need four more wasted years on another Jamarcus. But then again, closet Niners fan that you are, you probably would like to see the Raiders draft him.

  • alex7

Palmer’s pick-6 honestly didn’t even affect the outcome.

If he DOESN’T throw it and the Raiders kick the FG instead, the Falcons have 4 minutes to do what they did at the end anyways.

He DID throw it, CAME RIGHT BACK and avenged it with a TD drive that erased it, and the Falcons did what they would have done either way.

  • realtruraider

    Que Mistic

  • alex7

And WHY was Palmer heaving it 25 times in the 2nd half?

Because Knapp can’t get the run-game to succeed against Atlanta’s terrible run D.

  • Mistic1 Tha Supavillain

Lol & just 14 games into palmers tenure Alex 7 bails on him. Smart move, glad you finally see the truth.

Palmer crapped his pants, & bungled his way to yet another pick 6!

This pirate ship is doomed to tiger stripped hell as lOng as Palmer is at the helm.

We keep losing & you will not be able to justify keeping TP6 off the field & inactive.

Only 3 prospects fit the bill for next year TP6, ej manual , & geno smith.

  • ChrisinNC

Honestly, I could care less either for or against the Niners. It’s just stupid that you people (Amy, Sully) come in here and tout them like they’re the next coming of the ’85 Bears with Peyton Manning at QB. That’s hilarious, and absurdly silly.

The QB is a bust. He is Alex Smith. As Dennis Green would say, He is who we thought he was.

Their D is stout, but definitely beatable. They’ve played garbage teams the past few weeks and did what they should. They lost to a very questionable Vikings team, regardless of their record, that they should’ve handled easily. They’re playing a team at home that had to travel cross country, regardless of direction.

If they are as GREAT as y’all swear by, they should be at least winning in this game, if not coasting. But they’re not. As of now, they’re getting that bottom spanked.

All I’m saying, if you’re gonna talk trash, make sure the team is capable of actually backing it up. This team is a smoke screen. Pure and simple.

  • alex7

I’m a believer that you can tell a lot about a QB by the way he talks.

You would have hated Terry Bradshaw and Cam Newton and loved every Princeton QB.

  • Mistic1 Tha Supavillain

Comparing smith & jamayo is a tetarded rant from people that have never seen smith play. Smith threw for 275 yards & a td yesterday no turn overs

  • ChrisinNC

Lol. This Alex Smith is a pro bowler, right Amy/Sully? Come on, please entertain me. 🙂

  • realtruraider

    LOL I called it……..

  • alex7

You also just offended every intelligent person with a speech disorder.

  • ChrisinNC

Alex Smith being Alex Smith. Thank you Alex for reminding us knowledgeable NFL fans who you really are, and reminding these idiot Whiner fans how blind they are.

  • RaidingTexas

Correct. I do not think Terry Bradshaw would be able to play in today’s NFL.

  • jackasspuria

If anything, Palmer’s fault on that play was locking on to the right side and onto Denarius Moore almost immediately and not giving a look-off.

However, the Raiders were moving and Palmer was feeling it. He threw it, it was a Pick Six.

Yet Palmer gets back in the huddle and leads the team down the field for a game-tying TD.

    Class act, that Palmer.

I was in the postgame when he was the Bengals QB when Cincy lost to Oakland (the game in which Brandon Myers stripped the ball on the ensuing kickoff after the Raiders tied the game).
I was there doing a story on the Bengals’ Rey Maualuga and Maurice Purify (both Eureka High grads).

In the postgame, Palmer blamed the loss on himself. (Said the sack he took — Routt coming in and dropping him — in the red zone cost them the game.)

  • alex7

Smith has something like 21 TDs and, what, 0 INTs this season?

Comparing him to Jamarcus who had Dwayne Bowe and other NFL WRs and still had very average stats?

  • tuckrulefool

    4-4 3 WEEKS FROM NOW.

If we play like we did today…

Who is beating us? Jags? Please.

    KC? MHmmm.

    Bux? Sure.

    Today had some silver linings.

    – We actually CAN play D. Trick is motivation I guess?

    – If you hate on Plmer you should elave. Permamnetly. the guy is the best QB we have had since Gannon. NOT even an argument. Minus the winning we had then I actually think he is superior to Gannon. He wont cost us games. Whens last time we could say that at QB.

    – Goodson. The man needs to split time with MCFADDEN. He has earned it. Keeps producing and DMC doesnt? Use both and have DMAC in as screen/slot receiver.
U do what works. Egos checked at the door. Sorry.

    – No quit. come on people. Who thought we wouldn’t get BLOWN out today. Almost winning? IN Atlanta (haven’t lost in a yr at home). Please. This team showed guts. We have Huff at CB for Pete’s sake! d was awesome. We even got push from upfront.

Y’all need to see the forest for the trees.

    Church, yo…

You can take your political correctness with you to SF.

  • Well, I called it. Although I didn’t think it would be this close. Give it up to our defense. They’re for real, as a lot of us have known all along.

Palmer’s pick was debilitating. We had the undefeated Falcons down with our foot on their throat with a couple of minutes left. And just like that, Carson Palmer removes all doubt that he will not be the next Rich Gannon. Carson Palmer folks is Carson Palmer. And he only got the big play to Hagan to set up the last TD because Atlanta’s secondary miscommunicated and got crossed up. Send him back to Cincy, to be with the coach who made “the best trade ever” for him.

We will build on this defensive performance, even with one of the worst offenses in football.

I’m calling it now. Raiders 23, Jags 10.

So whats the deal with Rolando?? He’s obviously out on a lot of plays.

Is he being benched? kinda sorta benched? What’s the deal?

McClain was de facto benched for the first half, and watched the defense play better without him. He had some decent plays in the second half.

Maybe the light’s finally turned on for him. We’ll find out next week. If it has, GREAT! If not, Curry should be back after Jacksonville.

  • alex7

still in Eureka? Was there recently for baseball (umpire) at the Crabs stadium. Fun spot.

  • alex7

Lol, Smith has like 18 INTs today.

  • Kirk

Every loss is caused by not using McFadden correctly, and not being smart enough to realize it.

The fans could run this team better than Dennis Allen.

  • ChrisinNC

Haha!!! That’s numero tres interception! Where’s the Smith talk again, Sully? The dynasty Whiners? LOL! As bad of a day it is when we lose, it sure is hilarious seeing idiot fans get it fed to them.

  • Try Some Reality

So much for “real football” ay Niner fans?

  • Try Some Reality

Back to being a Raider fan, Sulli/MR? LOL!

  • jackasspuria

What really disappointed me about Rolando was the goal-line stand in which the Raiders stonewalled the Falcons.

Michael Huff sprinted into the hole and got enough of the Falcons’ FB to stop his forward progress and the Raiders D did the rest.

    Why Rolando?

Watching the replay from the end zone looking onto the field view, I clearly see Huff fly in and Rolando didn’t charge forward until Huff got a piece of the runner. All 6-foot-5 of McClain was shuffling to his right while Huff and Burris flew in to stop the play.

Not what I expected from a mike linebacker.

  • jackasspuria

    Alex 7,

I’m the sports editor for the Eureka Times-Standard newspaper.

  • Kirk

McClain is going through the motions to collect a paycheck.

  • RaidingTexas

    Again, you’re just trolling Alex.

I said last fall – feel free to search the archives – that I wanted RG3 on this team. I also said bring his coach with him. Briles is a dam genius.

Go back to the IBA posts from the first Sunday of this season. There I was pumping RG3 like he was a fkn football QB messiah.

Also, feel free to go back to last fall and see that I was one of Campbell’s most ardent supporters. Or the year before when all these clowns thought Gradkowski could save this team.

    #racecardfailure loser.

  • ChrisinNC

Lol, Sully, Amy, come on crying back, Whiner fans. Tail tucked between your legs. Come on. We’re waiting.

  • ChrisinNC

Funny how y’all get all quiet when the real Whiners shine through. Real funny how that works. Guess it’s just coincidence.

This is real football man. Giants are doing what they should to the Whiners — showing them what a real football team is.

  • Plunketthead

Did anyone notice if Carter made a diff?

  • EMRaiders

How many of you out there believe McFadden will resign with us after this year. And if you think he won’t, do you think it is worth trading him now? We got one week to decide. Of course take into account the quality of player he is, how he is being used, his past success, injuries, and our apparent commitment to the zbs.

I am not in any way promoting the idea of trading him, just bringing up a thought that if we are going zbs all the way, and it is obvious now that he doesn’t fit the system, would we be better off trading him now and getting good value for him, or just simply waiting to see if he can learn to run in this system, then at the end of the season risk losing him and get nothing in return.

  • Plunketthead

I liked Jim as a Colt QB. He was a baller but I think he is an ahole coach and I doubt his players will put up with him for long

Good to see them getting their butts kicked today. I hope it begins their ride back to the celler where they belong

  • alex7

    Raidin Texas

why would you be smart enough to appreciate RGIII and odd enough to support Campbell?

Campbell, backup NFL QB right now who defines “game-manager” and needs a running game + dominant D to MAYBE make enough plays to win some games?

  • jackasspuria

I’ve had this discussion with many friends and other fans.

If the Raiders do stick with the zone blocking scheme, McFadden probably looks elsewhere when he’s a free agent, so why not at least entertain the idea of a trade.

Reggie McKenzie should make some calls, see what (if anything) is out there in terms of what he can get in return and think about it.

I love watching No. 20 on gamedays. But, it would be more beneficial to him if he went to a team that employs a power-based blocking scheme. And it would be beneficial for us as fans so we don’t have to watch an entertaining player flounder in Oakland.

  • Plunketthead

I would trade DMAC if we get a second rounder

  • alex7

McFadden will NOT re-sign with us if Knapp is kept.

Is he signed just this year? Thought it was next year too.
