Final: Falcons 23, Raiders 20

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Sunday, October 14th, 2012 at 4:49 pm in Oakland Raiders.

Sorry for the delay . . . issues with Internet specfically related to posting on the blog. But as Carson Palmer might say, no excuses. It’s on my shoulders.

Anyway, here’s a link to the game story in Bay Area News Group papers.

Here’s a link to a story by correspondent Guy Curtwright on an Oakland pass defense that picked off its first three passes of the season and improved dramatically but gave up just enough ground in the end to Matt Ryan for Matt Bryant to kick a 55-yard field goal.

Here’s a link to the Raiders notebook, with Carson Palmer taking the blame for the defeat.

I have been a Raiders fan for over 40 years and I am tired of this BS every week. The same BS over and over and over!! Man, when will this BS end!

  • raiderzmaverick

Our back-up RBs are better suited for this scheme, neutralizing the threat that McFadden is. Better to just play the players that fit the scheme as Knapp doesn’t fit the scheme to maximize the talent on the players.

  • J Hill

Easy to pick out a certain player from week to week and point the finger.

Prett easy to see that Willie Smith, Veldheer, and Palmer made key MENTAL errors that cosy us this game.

We have many issues that need to be addressed on this team and QB is not one of them right now.
    ————————-
    So true.

  • J Hill

    666,

At what point does the QB get blamed for an in ept offense?

  • Mistic1 Tha Supavillain

Palmer stinks, knapps offense is his last & best shot. He was even worse last year in hu jack/ suanders vertical game. He just didn’t have the s arts or accuracy to make it work like his predecessor.

Better keep him doing the dink & dunk baby steps thing, let him hand off the ball & try to hide him. He is a liability whose days are numbered, while he stokes the appetite for his eventual replacement.

Hopefully the Chargers tank & we can sign Norvell for OC this off-season…But knowing ChubbyChecker & tits, they will stick by Knapp-time

  • http://www.insidebayarea.com/raiders Silverandblack666

We have so many holes to fill if we get a top 5 draft pick we are not taking a QB we will trade down and try to fill several holes like MLB DE CB the list goes on…

  • J Hill

Carson Palmer is 1-4 this season.

    He can certainly play better.

  • Method To My Madness

BTW….as we all knew MR didnt show up…i took my DUI chance and drove out to the 925 only to get words from one of bloggers he was here posting past 2:30pm….so much for meeting at 3pm lol…coward

  • Mistic1 Tha Supavillain

5-10 as the starter … Not a problem?!?

2-4 in the division ….. You cool with that?

A miserable 39 picks in last 30 games …… Elite instant upgrade?!?!

More ints for tds than any qb since 2005. ….

Stop making excuses for this loser

    Top 5 pick???

  • Stringer Bell

Why are we still talking about Chicago’s backup qb. Do you think he could get this running game going? The problem is the poor OLine play.

  • http://www.insidebayarea.com/raiders Silverandblack666

    “666,

At what point does the QB get blamed for an in ept offense?”

When he is making bad reads at the LOS or not hitting the open receiver. Or like Mike Vick has 11 turnovers in 5 games.

Marcus….bruh you sound pissed off as if you still working for Kaiser

This isPalmer’s last shot but not his best shot….Im not a Carson guy but no way he was doing schit in knapp’s offense…especially with dmac being limited

  • RaiderRetribution

    Raiders defeat Jacksonville or
    Reggie becomes a wholesaler.

  • 504 Raider

Here is where we lost the game:
Second possession we pass on the 58 yd FG attempt and decide to punt.

Then later on 2nd and goal from the 2 we pass instead of run. Then run on third down when everyone in stadium knew we were running the ball.

But the pass should have been caught by Myers.

That is 7 points right there we left on the field.

  • RaidersAllday_LtsGeTit

I predicted the Raiders would be waxed today.. and lose.

Well they lost and this kind lost is no better then being waxed. When u lose for 10 str8 years there are no victories.

Raiders can lose next week but they all feel sorry for themselves and realize the season is now over

Goodson is a better ZBS runner then DMAC. DMAC had a huge whole all he had to do was make one cut back.. but he runs full speed into back of of his Oline guy. Palmer is part of the problem cuz he has to know that the Vanilla offense NAP is running is predictable and that the CORNERS knew what was coming and jumped the route.

Doesnt matter anyhow, not like the Raiders were making the playoffs or superbowl anyway with this ATL win

  • raiderzmaverick

Hey, McFadden has averaged under 3 yards per carry every game practically.
Despite no threat of a run game really at all (I mean getting 3ypc doesn’t scare many teams) we still move the ball through the air. The problem is getting it into the end zone, which the playcalling somehow moves the ball and then stops when we get even remotely close.

Just remember this about McFadden – before Hue came along, half of the blog here were calling him McShoeStrings and saying how he’d get tackled by a blade of grass. He looked just as tentative as now. I mean he still plows over people when he gets any room to run and is still fast as hell. Just not comfortable. I blame that more on the coaches (as obviously it was clear in his earlier years too that he was tentative and unconfortable in this scheme)

  • Method To My Madness

Ok Marcus….since you are a small time promoter…what if they club you were working with didnt put you in a position to win? What if they didnt help assist making your event the best it could be?

Or how about when you work at Kaiser and your supervisor putting you in bad spot after bad spot…come on Marcus be real now

Highly doubtful that Pryor will ever be an NFL QB. Tebow ended up starting his first year, 2nd year he is making plays. TP, nodda. Pryor is going to join the likes of Bruce Campbell.

  • RaiderRetribution

Raiders draft a premier left tackle, I would be okay with moving Vehldeer to right tackle.

Psst Parsons got knocked back into palmer like a rag doll.

  • RaidersAllday_LtsGeTit

NO Raiders need to draft a PREMIRE DT or PASS RUSHER

  • raiderzmaverick

I honestly thing that the players that they brought in might look better though executing Knapp. Goodson and Lenart. Are they better players? NO! But with Knapp’s stuborn blindness I think they are better suited to play within this scheme.

Lenart is definitely not the better QB, but probably would post better stats with Knapp calling the plays. Goodson definitely isn’t the better RB, but would also post better numbers under Knapp.

Stupid to be stubborn about it. It’s obvious that the more “talented” players are starting, but it’s also obviously that it doesn’t flow as smoothly as it should based on their talent level.

  • http://www.insidebayarea.com/raiders Silverandblack666

Palmer was best in situations like last year in SD when he threw the ball only 20 times and Bush had 150 plus yards on the ground….we won the game.

Hue knew how to use Palmer these guys clearly do not!

  • RaiderRetribution

Time to activate Bergstrom and Nix, let’s see what we’ve got.

  • alex7

    Umm, SnB666

Palmer did fairly well vs the Bears, Lions, and Chargers when he threw it up 45 times for 350+ yards and 3 TDs last year.

He does well, like every other QB in the NFL, when his team can run the ball and the D can be stout at the end of the game.

  • J Hill

McFadden would have had 150 yds rushing if not for penalties.

Smith and Veldheer need to step it up.

  • RaiderRetribution

I agree Raiders need to draft best pass rusher in the 2013 draft.

    #######################

Didn’t Parsons come in at RG for Brisille or whatever the fk his name is? What is up Bergstrom? I guess he must suck for a 27 year old rookie.

To be honest, I wouldn’t mind seeing Parsons at C and Wiz moving back to LG and Coops going back to RG.

Raiders need to move shaughnessy to LDE

    Then move Houston to UT

    Cut Kelly and Seymour

Draft a speed demon for RDE and draft a young beast at NT

Quite simple…I told bloggers this for years…but they wanna disagree and be wrong as usual

  • alex7

We had zero running game today.

    Keep it simple.

Zero running game vs a very POOR run defense.

Zero running game to ice the game.

  • Stringer Bell

This comes down to coaching. You can’t just come in here and say, we are going to use this system come hell or highwater. Good coaches adjust and fit the scheme to the players they have. You can go ZBS all you want, but it’s clear that the line as currently constructed and DMAC are just not effective running it. You can’t feature DMAC, have him struggle and expect to win. If you are insistent on running this scheme, they should be looking to trade DMAC before the trading deadline for picks, go full youth movement and start rebuilding now. That also means activating TP and see what he has.

No its arrogance of knapp…he still after a decade as am OC doesnt understand game flow…he never has and never will…..its sad that allen will defend him….clowns need to be fired

  • Stringer Bell

On a positive note, they are finally taking McClain off the field. Much rather see an active Burris in there than McClain loafing in pursuit.

  • Mistic1 Tha Supavillain

Qb in the draft if Pryor isn’t the guy.

NO WAY IN HELL DOES PALMER COLLECT 16 mil, after being the principal in one if the single worst trades in sports history

  • RaiderRetribution

    #85, speaking the facts!

  • Mistic1 Tha Supavillain

Palmer is gone next year ….. THANK GOD!!!

Played his way off the roster, TP will be playing if we lose a couple more

  • Raiders for life

DA needs to call for a ref time out and ask “who the fk is #71?” Then do it again and ask ” who the fk is #47?”
DA needs to pull a bellacheet and start pushing these white hats around a little bit.

  • Method To My Madness

HAHA you morons still talking about we had no running game lol

I told yall in March dmac would look like schit in this scheme…yall dont get it

  • http://www.insidebayarea.com/raiders Silverandblack666

Who cares how much Palmer makes next year I am sure he will take a pay cut to stay here and help rebuild and develop TP6.

  • J Hill

How can you not recognize the Oline being the MAIN problem?

Next year, we will need to replace Carlisle, Smith, AND Briesel.

1st rd pick HAS to be on the Oline.

Seymour will be retired. Kelly will be a backup DT.

TP6 will not be a QB in the NFL. If he was worth a sht he would at least be activated every week.

  • J Hill

Not sure what you are looking at, but DMac should’ve had about 150 yds today.

CLEAR big runs called back b/c of penalties.
