Raiders in the community, activities for Sunday’s game
By Steve Corkran
Thursday, October 18th, 2012 at 12:12 pm in Oakland Raiders.
As always, the Raiders are as active in the community as any professional sports team. Here is a sampling of what they have been doing of late and what they have planned in the coming days.
– The Raiders are hosting a Halloween costume contest in the Raider Rookie Kids Zone before this Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars at the Coliseum.
Children ages 14 years old and younger—with a signature by a parent/guardian—are encouraged to have their picture taken in the Raider Rookie Kids Zone between 11:25 a.m.-1:00 p.m., while dressed in costume. Prizes will be awarded to the contest winners.
– The Raiders breast cancer awareness game is this Sunday. A pink ribbon flag will be unfurled during the pregame celebration. The Raiders will honor six breast cancer survivors and their families from The Susan G. Komen Foundation during an on-field recognition prior to kickoff.
Representatives from The Susan G. Komen Foundation will distribute breast cancer literature and pink ribbons to all fans. The Raiderettes, who will be celebrating their 50th Raiderette Reunion, will perform with pink poms and a special pink vest throughout the game.
– On Sunday, Raiderettes representing six decades will reunite for a 50th Celebration of Football’s Fabulous Females.
Raiderettes who served on the prestigious pom-pom and public relations unit in the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990, 2000s and this new decade, including the latest edition, will gather for a weekend that will culminate with a pre-game and halftime performance during the Raiders vs. Jaguars game.
Raiderette Reunion weekend will also include a gala dinner/dance where members of past and present will gather to recapture old times and share moments with new and old friends. On display at the event will be old uniforms and collages of pictures furnished by the Raiderettes.
“Only those who have had the opportunity to be a Raiderette know the excitement, friendship and hard work that are all a part of being a member of this team,” said Raiderette Director Jeanette Thompson, a one-time member of the squad. “Having the chance to reunite and celebrate that with six decades of women is phenomenal. It’s like a family reunion!”
– Second-year quarterback Terrelle Pryor led a Gatorade Junior Training Camp on Tuesday.
The event featured a free youth football clinic facilitated by the Raiders and geared towards boys and girls ages 7-12.
Junior Training Camp features the educational and recreational benefits of football presented in a safe and fun environment. The camp’s curriculum is very safe and was developed by Gatorade so that any student can participate regardless of age, gender, ability, or experience.
– Also this past Tuesday, running back Taiwan Jones visited the East Bay Youth Warriors Pop Warner football team and delivered a message about maintaining excellence in the areas of personal leadership, academics, citizenship and sportsmanship. Taiwan led the players through various team drills during their practice session.

For all I know, they can activate him and demote somebody else at any time. Don’t they have to let the league know who’s active for a game in advance. That might be the go/no go point.
October 18th, 2012 at 12:23 pm
guest123 Says: I wish they would decide to activate him now if he’s a full practice participant.===You can’t fully participate in practice while on the practice squad? If true, need to rename that group of players. All 8 of them playing amongst themselves ain’t gonna accomplish much.

Imagine how much of the Nat’l debt we could pay off if the BUSINESS of politics didn’t exist? All that money instead sent to the treasury to pay it off. I know it’s utopia to think that could happen. But think about how much filthy money is spent on reelecting politicians and how much of a enterprise it is and a general boondoggle for tertiary business that crop up out of nowhere.
I dont care anymore. Just want it all to be over and the money wasted better used to spur our economy than fatten politico’s wallets. SMH

What RG111 is doing this year and what Cam Newton did last year is no different than what Teblow did. A coach SIMPLIFIED or dummyed down the offense to an almost college level and teams are having and have had a hard time adjusting to it.
Eventually teams figure it out which is why you are seeing Cam Newton have such a bad year…when you take the training wheels off he cant ride the bike anymore….same thing will happen to RG111 next year.
We have seen running QB’s since Fran Tarkington to Randell Cunningham to Kordel Stewart to what we see today and the one thing they all have in common is they don’t win super bowls and they get hurt a lot from all the running they do..so much for your new wave of QB’s.
=============
why does it bother you so much?
1. tebow did not do what cam did last year or what rgIII are doing this year, he didnt and cant ever pass the ball the way these two have. Cam set all time passing numbers as a rookie, and rgIII is leading the nfl in passing completion percentage. tebow will never sniff that kind of passing acumen.
2.The offense has not been “dummied down” in fact the wco that shanahan used with elway young and montana has now been bolsterd by ADDING some of baylors playbook. griffin runs a no huddle is free to call his own plays even in two minute and like peyton manning he often has complete freedom to over rule the play form the sideline based on what he sees when he reads the defense pres-nap.
3. the nfl has not “cuaght up to cam” cam has been too greedy. he is forcing the ball down field and trying to do too much. he has already stated he will be far more patient gong forward this season. in 5 games cam has had 2 bad games and 2 good games with one up and down. Too early to write him off, and in the games he was good in, the defense had no answers.
4. only kordell and cuningham fit the athletic mold of rgIII and cam, but neither of them had the benefit of rgIII’s or cams raw passing talent, even cam doesnt compare in that category. yet cam is far better passer out f the gate than either randall or kordell were.
Your other comparisons of Tarkenton and Staubach are laughable, not elway, not you, noon has the package of speed and passing prowess that these two do. it has never been seen in profootball. but again you dont have to take my word
try john madden
“I mean, go down the sideline? I have never, in the history of football, I have never seen a quarterback ever run that fast. “If he gets away from you on any type of scramble, he can just outrun anyone that you have on your team, and that is very, very scary,” Madden said. I think that’s gonna be the pro quarterback style, I really do. If you go back and look at high school football, the way they play, and college football, the way they play, that’s the type of quarterback that we’re developing. And that’s the type of quarterback that’s gonna come into the league, and I think eventually that’s gonna be the pro-type quarterback.”..
madden agrees with me, they are revolutionizing football and changing the qb position for ever, and the gifts they bring to the dance have never been seen on sundays in the nfl.
sorry but i think madden is much better source of opinion on qb than you

if you remember i was very impressed by how tebow became the catalyst for wins and thought the coaching staff did a great job using his particular talent. i commented that it was good for guys like tp6 and newton and rgIII proving that option can win at the pro level.
Cam is only 23 and in his second year, as they continue to build the team around him his win loss record will improve. cam won back to back national championships ( blinn and auburn)in college and posted back to back unbeaten seasons while doing so. Cam is a winner, and it will get better in carolina over the next year or so.
i could name of a bunch of qb that struggled to win early i thier craeers but went on to have major success.
try steve young for instance. we are not talking about an aging 10 year vet that has struggled to win for most of thier pro life.

KK,
That is interesting.
Although Romney is beating the Prez in national polls, he still isn’t leading in places like Mich, Penn, CO and Ohio, but it is much closer than the Prez would like to see.
It will all depend on which side is motivated to get out and vote. All that “hope and change” crap got people going last time…..will “forget the past four years and give me another shot” work or the Prez in 2012? Will young people and minorities break from their normal voting percentages for the Prez like they did in 2008?
Should be an exciting election night.
Who would have thought that only 4 years after he was ordained the second coming that the Prez would be in a nail biter of an election? That in and of itself is the most damning indictment of his Presidency.

Yes it has the training wheels are off and he is falling off the bike sure he is a good runner even Madden was enamored with his running skills but that does not translate into playing QB in this league just ask Michael Vick who has under 50% completion percentage and 13 turnovers this short season already.
4. only kordell and cuningham fit the athletic mold of rgIII and cam,
Cam ins not even the beginning of a pimple on Randall Cunningham’s ass.
No one is upset as you claim just trying to educate you as to the history of the game..there have always been running QB’s and there probably always will but one thing we all know is that they will never win a Super Bowl so keep on tooting your horn about this new era of athletes that is nothing new to most of us.

Probably because RGIII, Wilson, and Newton have nothing to do with the Raiders…and Pryor CLEARLY won’t be given a shot to show a damn thing any time soon. Comparisons are moot. ALL 3 guys were killer in college, and 2 are showing skills in the pros right now so YEAH, theoretically Pryor should be a Baller too. However, he’s not on a team that’s going to groom him very well – if at all. So this whole discussion is a “Well, if – and he could – and but the other guys – and maybe…”
It’s just ALL speculation and really pointless as it pertains to the Raiders, right here right now…….

the economy’s bad is why it’s a nail biter, and the polls have yet to be affected by the last debate. Jesus couldn’t have bring the economy back to what it was in the Clinton era. 31 months of growth and the lowest unemployment since elected pres is pretty impressive. If you prefer a 5 point plan that is yet to be unveiled, ending tax deductions for the middle class (mortgage deduction, child tax credit, education credit), a voucher system for social security, and a continuation of tax breaks for people making over 250K than Romney’s your man

Wouldn’t be as old as Peyton is now and we won’t even talk about Favre or Peete. I wouldn’t make the switch right now, but at the end of the year I would love to revisit it.

The game is played at a high level in the NFL this is not the SEC.
QB’s that run are for college not the pro’s.
You act like its a new thing…no its an old thing that is done at a level below professional football in an amateur league called the NCAA.
Why dummy down the NFL by trying to make it more like college by having the QB run a lot and often.
It wont work in the NFL it never has and it never will in this league you need a pocket passer…sure they can be elusive like Aaron Rodgers or hard to bring down Big Ben etc.
If you ask me there is no reason for a QB to have RB speed.

it doesn’t bother me that they’re black. you can try and convince yourself of that but it’s not the case. Yes it has the training wheels are off and he is falling off the bike sure he is a good runner even Madden was enamored with his running skills but that does not translate into playing QB in this league just ask Michael Vick who has under 50% completion percentage and 13 turnovers this short season already.
===============
you clealry dont watch the games
Last year the panther offense thrived on deep passing and power running.
cams early up and down start this year are cam’s doing not the defense he is up against. This this year defense are forcing everything under neath, cam simply must make the adjustment to being patient and managing the game, as opposed to relying on the highlight play. The defense are still struggling with cam when he is patient see the new orleans and atlanta games…oh right you don’t watch him play.

Too bad the community doesn’t give the Raiders the Stadium they need to stay in Oakland.
————–
It’s the communities job to show support by buying tickets.
It’s the team’s job to put a decent product on the field so the community will continue to show support.
It’s then then teams job to take those profits and go build their own damn stadium if they need to. Threatening to go back to LA every 6 months is not the type of environment that fosters support for the community. This org had a waiting lidt 10 years long for tickets before the first move to LA. It’s up to them to regain our trust.
It certainly isnt the communities job to foot the bill for a new stadium.

4. only kordell and cuningham fit the athletic mold of rgIII and cam,
Cam ins not even the beginning of a pimple on Randall Cunningham’s ass.
No one is upset as you claim just trying to educate you as to the history of the game..there have always been running QB’s and there probably always will but one thing we all know is that they will never win a Super Bowl so keep on tooting your horn about this new era of athletes that is nothing new to most of us.

for the 90 millionth time
elway young and tarkenton, are mobile. THEY HAVE NOWHERE NEAR THE FOOT SPEED OR RUNNING ABILITY AS CAM OR RGiii!!!
Not only that but cam posted better rookie passing numbers than all of them including kordell and cunningham.
RGIII is now carrying the mantle and is clearly a better player at this stage than were elway young tark cuningham and so on.
bra , your are not making any sense

Another issue people have with you Mistic is let me go out on a limb and say Dakota and Raiderrockstar are White. If either one of them would come in here daily or even weekly talking about Cam Newton or Aaron Rodgers I wouldn’t want to hear it because i’m a Raider fan and I say Fu#k everyone else

inonewordraider, thanks bro. And now I’ve gotta go renew my drivers license. Talk about procrastinating. And I was eligible to renew by mail or online and just never did it. Oh, well, Grass Valley DMV usually pretty quiet. Catch you all later and…wait for it… HAPPY CARSON PALMER DAY!!

=================
you continue to put your foot in your mouth.
1. staubach, elway, young were running qbs. No where near the athletic ability of cam and griffin, but they won superbowls as runnning qbs. brees and rodgers also fit that mobile qb mold. It is for the pro game the lombardy trophy says so.
2. I said it is new to the pro game, many guys have had this talent in collge, but are often forced to switch positions due to old out dated obsolete thinking and football models. this happens in college too, (RGIII went to baylor because it was the only school that let him compete strictly at qb) but more so in the pros, lenny moore kordell stewart for example.
3. mnay pro coaches visit college campuses every year as the collee game is known for innovative offense, this is why the spread is now so popular in the pro game. is brady or rodgers or brees playing in a “dummyied down” offense? What about bradford or stafford? they are runing spread offenses, just like rgIII ran and now geno smith. you must not watch college if you did you would know this
4. just becaus e i guy can run doesnt negate his passing ability does it? was elway or young not pocket passers? what about brees, pocket passr? yes they are but they can also move. Same can be said for RgIII and cam they can throw from the pocket but they are athletes on an entirely different scale. it is a plus, not a negative.
do some study before you post folks, or this gets boring
