Running back Taiwan Jones is not practicing today, apprarently the victim of a sore knee that worsened overnight.
Jones was listed on the injury report Wednesday with the knee issue. It’s likely that his participating in practice aggravated the injury.
We won’t know more until we get a chance to speak with coach Allen and Jones after practice.
Beyond that, the Raiders remain relatively healthy five games into their season.
Right offensive tackle Khalif Barnes (groin), cornerback Shawntae Spencer (foot) and tight end Richard Gordon (hamstring) are the only other players not able to practice.
Spencer Tweeted last night that he is out of the walking boot after spending the past month or so in the device.
At this point, it’s safe to assume that Barnes, Gordon and Spencer won’t play Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Therefore, look for Willie Smith to replace Barnes, Michael Huff to remain at left cornerback and David Ausberry to get more snaps at tight end. Matt Giordano and Mike Mitchell will get increased playing time at free safety.
– The Raiders have until 1:25 p.m. to announce whether Sunday’s game sold enough tickets in advance of the 72-hour deadline imposed by the league.
They sold out their first two regular-season home games this season and all eight last season.
– Linebacker Aaron Curry (knees) is practicing for a second straight day after spending the first six weeks on the physically unable to perform list.
Curry was unavailable for comment Wednesday. We’re hopeful that he speaks with the media today so that we can get his take on what he expects in his recovery from an issue that surfaced during offseason workouts.
