Houston honored by league

By Steve Corkran
Wednesday, October 24th, 2012 at 8:51 am in Oakland Raiders.

Defensive end Lamarr Houston was named AFC Defensive Player of the Week for his strong play against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Houston forced a fumble early in overtime that cornerback Joselio Hanson recovered deep in Jaguars territory. Sebastian Janikowski kicked the game-winning field goal two plays later.
Houston also sacked Chad Henne and made several impressive plays against the run in spearheading a Raiders defensive effort that held the Jaguars to 54 yards offense after halftime.

Gangham is cool but we look pretty studid when you get your ass kicked.Aact like you been there before. Come on man!!

    ——————————————————

I hear ya, but that was early on in the game and Shaughnessy was actually playin damn good goin up against Long in the first half.

  • hwnrdr

Well, Lechler always outkicked his coverage…that was his one flaw!

  • ArtilleryShell

Jacksonville sucks would felt better if we had beat Atl then Jacksonville, but I’m tired of 8-8 seasons. I don’t trust Reggie McK as a drafter, look at the 2nd round scrubs he drafted from Green Bay (Pat Lee, etc…) they not doing so hot. This is a good draft and we need a 2nd round pick

  • inonewordraider

Sorry Mistic, but that’s not leadership material

where’s mistic been? he seems to post more often if cam or russell wilson play well… or cp plays bad

  • ArtilleryShell

Yes Lechler does out kick his coverage, he’s good but not Ray Guy. Guy put the ball high as heck for a reason. Now his leg strength is falling off maybe he’s hurt, but the brother on IR will have his job next year

  • inonewordraider

couple games not up to his standards and you guys wanna dump jano? unbelieveable

Raider4Life209 Says: How hard was everyone’s heart beating when Jano went for the 64 yarder?============

Very hard. Thought that was it. He’s saving it for when it really counts. And Lechler will be cut as most here want and Palmer or Lionheart or King won’t get it down with ‘Laces out’ and he’ll miss from 65 in the AFC championship game. But, no matter what plastic surgery he gets, Jano will definitely not be as attractive as Lieutenant Einhorn.

know what i was thinkin before he kicked it?

0:06 left…and if jax was smart they DONT return it…if he misses with 0:01 o more left the THEIR kicker can try a 64 yrd the other way for the win! and that dude was/is money….

if DA was a good coach he would have called a play to ground the ball or quick toss out of bounds to get it to 2 or 3 seconds…never crossed his brain im sure…

then again DA isnt the brighest tool in the shed…thankfully neither is jax HC…infitely beter chance at making a 64-66 yrder vs 103 yrd runback for a td…

and yes i dvred it and ball would have hit ground short with 2 seconds to go….

Not as hard as when watching Jax return the kick. Was thinking, what a schitty way to lose if he returns this.

The ‘brother”s got a good leg but he shanks ‘em a lot. Fix that, and I’d be OK with him. Still think Jano and Lechler should come in together and go out together, if only to honor Al Davis who put a premium on punters and kickers when nobody, NO ONE else did in the NFL. Be surprised if Mark and Reggie don’t
see that. A tad expensive, but not back breaking and worth it in my humble opinion. Condo, too. Where is BoShembechlerJackson any way. He been heard from since that season opener we lost because Condo went down?

    True…he’s probably playing hurt

  • RaidingTexas

I see the usual negative nancies are still b!tching about last weekend’s win and its lack of style points, and already booking tickets to New York to watch the “high draft pick”.

I wonder how many Falcons fans were crying all last week about winning a game they had no business winning.

A win’s a win. The Raiders found a way and that’s all that matters. Time to move forward to the Chiefs and stop with the “high draft pick” loser talk.

  • tuckrulefool

lechler isnt the same this year…even worse he cant put the ball inside the 20 even though he has had at least 10 shots at it. some of those could have been huge too and werent even close.

save the 5mil a year and bring in king. thanks but time to move on.org

I want to see more Goodson and Jones…

Enough already with the Jones doghouse shat….get him on the field. He is a sick weapon.

As for DMAC PLEASE…PLEASE put him in space. Off tackle runs…24/7…Really?

One thing I’m seeing and not liking with the Allen regime is this pigheadedness. See’s change as a weakenss.

Slamming your head or DMAC’s for that matter repeatedly into a cement wall, WONT get you through it!

    2. Dmac lives and dies on the stretch play, almost ALL of his carries of over 30 yards were off tackle and stretch plays.

5M vs 0.5M per year—> we cn add a stud every down player (DT, OT, CB..take your pick)….AND we still would have a young clealy talented punter at a song…

we all saw the guy rocketing 50-60 yarders in August. Face it punting is punting.

As for what have u done for me lately. Please child…Been a raider fan for 40 years. sat through some uggggllleee and im no fair wx fan.

please read my post…i said nothing of benching mcd….i said put him in space. why is he an off tackle running back 9/10 times? dumb!

that said i still want goodson to get some touches (ala atlanta game…not ala jax game)…and taiwan…get him involved with dmac in the slot…and get him up to speed with return game. kid is nervous he will get over the fumbling. that is if you -let him to get over it…more u bench him the LESS likely that is….

and if we are ‘punishing’ taiwan then get seymour and kelly on the pine too. we are getting VERY little production for that combined 20M a year salary. hard to arguing that action!

installing ‘a couple of plays’ is not going to what worked in 2011. maybe you should wake up instead?

Right on Houston. LOVE that guy running downfield and staying on the ball! He’s done it a few times this year. Reggie’s going to keep stacking the team with dudes like this, Wheeler, Burris, and it is (eventually) going to be fun to watch.

The only reason I can see for keeping King on IR is that he either will be the punter next year or they are using him either for leverage in negotiation with Lechler or as a backup plan for Lechler. Other IR players, if they are not in the teams future plans, usually end up being given an injury settlement and are released.

  • JLofty

Lechler’s hurt. Whatever kept him out of ALL of training camp didn’t heal or came back and he is almost sucking at this point. Awful.

    TX,

I’m sad to say I’m one of these guys that’s happy we won but the way we played for about 3 Qs on offense scares me. That we were about to let Gabbert have a career day scares me.

Falcons fans aren’t trippin because at the end of the day, they were still 6-0 and were a playoff team last year and will be a playoff team again this year.

Raider fans don’t have that sense of security.

I also think it would be a bad idea to scrap the whole defensive line or get like 30 new guys in the team next year.

Better depth, sure. Maybe a key starter in a few areas (RT, LG, DE, CB)

I’m just going to go on record right now and reply to one of the first comments on this post by stating that I am TERRIFIED of getting a high draft pick. One of my buddies got married in Vegas the weekend of the draft and I remember being pulled aside by my friend Ryan, who told me that the Raiders just dumped JaPrecious and drafted this awesome LB out of the SEC, and that we’d be set at linebacker for the next decade. Or when I was in college and one of my roommates told me that drafting Gallery was a lock, that we’d be set at LT for the next decade and that he was impressed with Davis for taking a sure thing.

It’s traumatic. No more Napoleon Harrises

At approximately 4:30 PM Sunday afternoon this blog will either be discussing the 3-4 Oakland Raiders with playoff aspirations or the 2-5 Oakland Raiders that are 0-3 within the division and completely DONE.

If Corky is predicting a Raider blow out win, that’s the last thing that’s going to happen.

In fact, the idea of the 2012 Krapp Raiders blowing ANYONE out is pretty humorous.

If Jax was a must win, this is a must-must win.

The opponent is horrid, so the opportunity to stay alive for another week is there.

There’s a chance we’ll be 3-4 and clinging to life, but there’s also a chance we’ll be discussing how easily this team could have been 0-7 instead of 2-5.

Unfortunately, I think the latter is more probable than the former, and that’s a fcking shame.

I hate Krapp and what he’s done to this offense. Honestly, I don’t know why I bother watching anymore. Maybe it’s the hope of being SHOCKED by witnessing something MIRACULOUS – like an offensive outburst.

But since I really don’t expect miracles to happen, maybe I’m just a masochist and a glutton for punishment.
