Raiders winning despite growing injury list
By Steve Corkran
Monday, October 29th, 2012 at 2:07 pm in Oakland Raiders.
The expected return of cornerback Ron Bartell to practice this week comes as a bit of good news for the Raiders as they persevere despite a long list of injured players.
Bartell went down with a shoulder injury in the regular-season opener against the San Diego Chargers on Sept. 10, and he missed the past six games while on injured-reserve/designated to return.
Bartell isn’t eligible to play in a game until Nov. 11, when the Raiders play the Baltimore Ravens.
Shawntae Spencer, the other starting cornerback, has missed the past five games with a foot injury. There is no timetable for his return.
The injuries to Bartell and Spencer prompted the Raiders to move free safety Michael Huff to cornerback.
Allen said Monday that he hasn’t decided whether to leave Huff at cornerback once Bartell returns or move him back to free safety.
Bartell’s return comes at a time when the Raiders added a few more names to an injury report that featured 20 players for Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Backup running back Mike Goodson suffered a turf-toe injury Sunday and center Stefen Wisniewski hurt an ankle.
Allen said he is hopeful that Goodson and Wisniewski will recover well enough to play against the Buccaneers on Sunday.
Goodson’s injury is the one of most concern, Allen said. If Goodson can’t play Sunday, second-year back Taiwan Jones and fullback Marcel Reece would pick up the slack behind lead back Darren McFadden.
– Allen has succeeded where so many of his predecessors failed in terms of curbing the penalties.
Then-coach Hue Jackson last season promised that he would get the problem under control, even if it took all season.
As it turned out, Jackson left town with his name attached to a season in which the Raiders set league marks for most penalties (163) and yards penalized (1,358).
Through seven games, the Raiders have committed 42 penalties (tied for 26th) and been penalized for 331 yards (27th). They are on pace for 96 penalties for 757 yards this season.
“It’s the players,” Allen said. “We can preach the message and we’ll continue to preach the same message day in and day out. That won’t change. But, really, as with most things that happen successfully on the football field, it’s because the players understand that it correlates to winning and losing games.”
– The league pushed back the trade deadline from Tuesday to Thursday at 1 p.m. Allen said he won’t rule out the Raiders making any trades between now and the deadline.
“We’ll look and see what’s out there,” Allen said. “We’re not going to close all our doors to anything that might be available.”
Last season, the Raiders traded for quarterback Carson Palmer two days after starter Jason Campbell suffered a season-ending collarbone injury.
– Rookie Rod Streater has emerged as the Raiders clear-cut No. 3 wide receiver through seven games.
Streater played 32 snaps Sunday against the Chiefs, while veteran Derek Hagan played only four and rookie Juron Criner one.
Jacoby Ford entered training camp as the No. 3 receiver, behind Darrius Heyward-Bey and Denarius Moore. However, he suffered a season-ending foot injury in an exhibition game.
– The Raiders held the Chiefs to 102 yards rushing Sunday, though 53 of those came on nine quarterback scrambles.
The Raiders are 11th against the run so far, at an average of 102.1 yards per game and tied for ninth in yards per carry (3.9).
Last season, the Raiders finished 27th against the run (136.1) and last in yards per carry (5.1).
– Allen gave his players the day off Monday as a reward for how well they played against the Chiefs. They return to practice Wednesday in preparation for the Buccaneers.
“There are times during the season where players need a mental break and a physical break,” Allen said. “I felt like, we had the bye, we’ve gone through three straight tough weeks, it was time to give them a little bit of a mental break.”
Even so, numerous players showed up at the team’s facility to get a jump on breaking down video.

I’d love to see a Blount pick up. But I doubt Reg and DA will take a chance of his character. Kid has yet to leave his hood behind him.

NOBODY in here understands the first thing about football.
You guys wanna think that winning a SB happens overnight. It DOESN’T.
Reggie inherited the worst mess in the history of sports.
Building a franchise takes at least 5 yr’s and with the mess Reggie inherited it will take at least a decade if not more to even be competitive in the AFC West.
A franchise is built on draft picks and slowly, meticulously grooming players to fit into a system.
Rookies never make an impact and Reggie can only do so much with the garbage he inherited.
A slow, inch by inch rebuild is what is happening with the Raiders right now.
I may be a shut in who thinks he has forever to live, but I do know my football and exactly what it takes to build a franchise from the ground up and turn it into a contender.
No professional sports team ever has success come quickly. It is a painstaking, painful process when you have inherited a team full of aging veterans and hapless rookies and younger free agents who couldn’t land a spot in the Canadian Football League.
October 29th, 2012 at 2:43 pm
A decade to be competitive in your division??
I agree that he inherited a mess and there is no easy fix, but 10 years to compete in the division that Tim Tebow won last year at 8-8?
Get real!!!!
We are competing for the divison, THIS YEAR.
October 29th, 2012 at 2:45 pm
Fred my only question is why did you wait so long to inform the world of your unique abilities?
October 29th, 2012 at 2:46 pm
My theory is “Ten…and Then” Give Reggie 10 years to right the ship and at least 8-9 yr’s. to see a winning record.
I think that’s enough time to see if Reggie is the man for the job.
If we can’t obtain a winning record in 9 yr’s maybe it will time to think about making a change.
Give Reg at least 15 yr’s. to get us into the SB.

Ten years is way too long. NOBODY gets that kind of leeway.
Five years, on the other hand, is a very reasonable length of time. Five years is long enough to determine if the GM’s plan is working or not.

Oh, I completely agree. By the end of Year 5, your team should be a legitimate contender for a deep playoff run. If not, you can the GM and give the new one the same 5 years to prove himself. It may or may not work the first time, but it WILL work eventually.

From Pro Football Weekly:
“Now that we have seen the first coordinator and GM let go, I think you’ll start seeing a lot more moving parts the next couple of weeks. The reason is — if you’re lining up to hire the best, you don’t want to be the last man looking. That’s what Al (Davis) always did. He had no timetable, and he always got stuck with the C-level coaches. You have to get in front of it and do your homework. There are a lot of talented people in the league, but you’ve got to find them and vet it out and sometimes move very quickly.”

wow. Jerry’s grades of the passing game were way off the mark. We cannot have that many drops at such critical junctures against the upcoming teams. We will lose games (as we have all year) against a decent opponent if these mistakes continue.
Carson is playing at a “A” level. The WR’s are playing at a D+ level if you ask me. The grade given should have been a ”C”. The continued mistakes will be the difference between wins and loses.
.
As for DA being unsure if Huff is going to stay at CB the rest of the year… this is a no brainer. I hope he is just being coy for the sake of gamesmanship. Huff MUST stay at CB. He’s a much better CB than Safety. I think we can all agree on that.

In the 4th quarter Greg Knapp finally started pitching the ball to Darren McFadden instead of handing it off every run play called. The pitch gives D Mac some room to make those cut backs into the lanes which the zone blocking scheme is designed to do. I will give Knapp some credit for that.

I don’t think Reggie gets more than 3 years with a loosing record. Its not too hard to find intelligent well connected people who are passionate about the game to act as GM´s. Heck, half the people on this blog would do it for free… Reggie must be holding his cards really close to the vest regarding Knapp, he know’s this dude aint the answer. How long before Reggie an DA tell Knapp “better you than me. bye”

——
This post gave me grey hair. So if Reggie doesn’t do it in 10, we give another guy another 10?
*********
What I mean by the ‘Ten…and Then” plan is it should be plenty of time to see some reasonable semblance of growth in that time.
I think it is enough time to show if Reggie can get things moving.
Ten yr’s to get to the playoffs and THEN we will hopefully see a playoff win or two to eventually reach the SB by year 15.

Ten and Then….That’s awesome.
Never mind that GM’s get fired if they don’t turn things around in 3…
Guys talk about being so happy that we are a “real” organization now, yet show me ONE organization in football that allows for a TEN yr. rebuilding.
Never mind that we are coming off two consecutive 8-8 seasons. I know, we didn’t really win those games and u can’t count the close wins cuz they could’ve gone either way and u can’t count the game in SD cuz it was close to Palmer’s home but still…
I guess there are some “fans” who actually enjoy losing and are afraid of being a contender.
There are people like that I guess.

I can wait on the offense as long as this defense is FO-REAL and it starting to look that way. This defense just needs a running game to go with it. If we start running effectively this can become a pretty good team in the top ten very quickly. That is how important what we’re seeing form the defense really is. The Raiders were always known for their defense in the past with an efficient offense we were winning SB’s. This defense and running game can bring the rets of the team with them. If you still had that 250lbs. HB on shortyardage and G/L this would be a very stout team even now. Can’t bring him back but that may be our weak spot we just don’t have a hammer in the run game. And that IMO may be our undoing…

“Why can’t McFadden figure out how to run in a zone blocking system? I know a lot has been said about the OC’s inability to adjust to him, but really, it’s a two way street. McFadden should be able figure out how to run well in any system if he’s truly a great back. If nothing else, he should be embarrassed that a large list of other runners (including his current teammate) can run up MVP-type numbers on a regular basis in the same system, while he toils around at the 3yds/carry mark.”

YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE.
As as psychologist and an avid fan of both blogging and reading blogs, I think it is important to address the psychological challenges bloggers can face. All is not always rosy in Blogger Land. Believe it or not, it is possible to become addicted to this social medium. In this article I examine some of the myths, behaviors, personality characteristics, and red flags of a blogging addiction.
Here are some common myths about bloggers and addiction.
I can’t be addicted to blogging because it isn’t a mind-altering chemical.
I am employed, and only blog when I am not busy with my job, although I might blog at work if I have time.
I only blog on important topics – well, important topics to me.
I only blog to make a difference in people’s lives. If I don’t do it, who will?
I can stop blogging anytime I want. I just don’t want to stop. This is not hurting me or anyone else.
I am not addicted, that is a term for alcoholics and substance abusers – coke heads, meth addicts. Blogging isn’t a drug.
I still go to work every day and it doesn’t count if I work on my blog(s) during my downtime or check the website(s) for comments.
I hardly ever use a sick day to stay home and blog or to catch up on errands that didn’t get completed because of blogging.
Do you recognize yourself in any of those?
There are also some behaviors that have been identified as common in addictive personalities. With respect to blogging, these include:
Denying there is an issue with blogging. Denial is the ability to overlook negative consequences so as to be able to justify continuing to engage in a behavior. There might be an awareness that the blogging is creating turmoil, but the desire to blog is stronger than the pressure to stop. Loss of control, being unable to stop the behavior, and continuing to engage in the behavior regardless of adverse consequences are some of the most definitive features of addiction.
Lying about the time spent engaged in “blogging behaviors.”
Losing track of time and being late for events, appointments, and celebrations because of blogging.
Changes in sleep habits and patterns because of blogging or needing to respond to comments. Getting up in the middle or the night or very early before going to work to check the blog, write the blog, or make comments.
Feeling guilty or confused about the effect blogging is having on your life.
Disbelief that it is possible to be addicted to blogging.
Financial problems due to blogging—such as not paying bills on time because of being consumed by blogging.
Not all of these may apply, but if more than two describe you and your current blogging lifestyle it could be a red flag that blogging is impacting your life in a negative manner.

Raider Riff Says:
That’s a massive improvement over the last owner. The last owner didnt fire the GM after nearly 30 years of mostly losing.
All joking aside, its not going to take Reggie 10 years to fix this org. Crappier orgs have been turned around in much less time.
————————————
Riff spot on again with that first paragraph. I know Al built and defined the franchise, but man he mismanaged it so miserably, especially for the better part of the last 25 years (other than the remarkable run with Gruden and Gannon).
In the second one, I guess it depends on how we define “turn around” or “fix”. If we’re talking about getting a team to the playoffs, I think it’s going to happen in far, far less than 10 years.

Fred are you a Raiders fan? Don’t sound like one to me. Also, ALL these players need to be practicing. They haven’t deserved a day off yet. Maybe if we beat the Ravens give them a day off but not after beating the Chiefs that was an easy game for us.
Yeah we need players healthy. But call a mandatory film session as a practice. That makes the team bond more. These players don’t need a mental break. We need to keep grindin to become great.
And yes I’M TALKING BOUT PRACTICE. lol

So glad the Raiders won yesterday. We beat a very schitty team like we were supposed to. We are not as schitty as Kansas City. But be careful all the knapp scrotum huggers. The ZBS is still a failure. Darren McFad was only able to gain away from his 1 YPC in the 4th because he finally wore down a weak to begin with Kansas Schitty D. Other smart opposing coaches are going to key on Darren on those side dump off passes and knock his ass for a loss. Our OC is not that smart. He doesn’t involve out TE and other backs enough. And why no screen?
Knapp nut crunchers, be careful to to hug his nuts. The Bucs are gonna be the real test. If we get past them, 12-4, 11-5 is very very possible because we have gamers like Palmer, McFadden, Moore, DHB and a slowly improving D. Was yesterday a big tease? I don’t know. But thinking the ZBS is getting better is wrong. It may have worked against a schitty team, but if Palmer and company were allowed the no huddle, we woulda put up 50+ points. If it weren’t for the bumbling hands of a crappy KC team, we may have lost that game. All I’m saying is, knapp butt hole surfers, be careful. Long ways to go.

Its not just Knapps ZBS I have a problem with… although I have never understood anyone that would try to fix something not broke.
My problem with him is his insipid play calling.
How many times have all of us said something like “Ok.. its first down… McF up the gut for 2 yards.”
It’s almost like Knapp is content with 2nd and 8.
And as soon as I saw that bubble screen to Moore, I knew is was going long. Why? BECAUSE HE HAS NEVER CALLED IT BEFORE!
Good gawd… its like he wants to hide the entire playbook until the playoffs or something. I got news for you Knapp… there is not going to be any playoffs unless you start opening up the playbook!
The screens, draws, bootlegs, and end arounds open up the lanes for McFadden. Not the other way around.
It’s maddening.

Kell, it’s getting embarrassing for you, pal.
I cringe everytime you feel the need to tell everyone how insecure you are by saying you are on vacation. Everyone goes on vacation, yet you, and only you feel stating it makes you less of a loser. In fact, it proves you are one.
I cringe when you feel the need to state you have a material item, in this case an ipad. ipad’s are the #1 request for children for Christmas, yet here you act like it’s something major. They’re under a grand, Kell. Who cares who has a ipad?
And now you are stating you had a great day because relatives came to visit you? Could you be any more needy?
Add to that you, once again, feel the need to mention an ipad because you were using it to watch the jags, while in switz.
Seriously. You’re like this insecure child who needs to be patted on the head.
And sadly, you get busted for stating you watched jags, on your ipad, while in switz, when they weren’t even playing then.
You’re on full meltdown mode, pal, and I, for one, am embarrassed for you.

Huff’s play at CB is one of the best surprises this season. I hope DA keeps him at cb. Cp3 deserves credit for keeping this team together. his Ol has played below average, Dmac has been MIA, and his WRs except for Dmoore’s potential really have nothing to hang their hat on. Yet CP3 continued to lead stay positive and make enough plays to keep our season alive for now. i won’t try to convince everyone the need for plax, but after watching Dmoore drop 2 red zone passes, criner look hopeless running that fade route i wonder how good Palmer would be if he actually had a playmaker at WR. Very excited about the TB game, i realize they have played well lately but coming to the west coast will be different and i like our chances of being 4-4

Instead of the John Skelton, Brady Quinn, Matt Cassell, Weeden, Gabbert and all the other non top shelfers, the “wave of the future”, LOL, would be to replace them with your more athletic types.

He props up the absolute top-shelf white QB’s (Montana, Rodgers, Eli) but than talks up 3rd string black QB’s.

In his opinion current or future hof white Qb’s are only Qbs comparable to this ***wave of the future* qb’s

You put an offensive line in front of Palmer in 2013, we can win the division, no doubt about it. The defense is improving, and a healthy return man in Jacoby Ford can be the difference. Tampa Bay will be tough. We need to bring our A game this Sunday! Go Raiders!

Knapp nut huggers need to remember you just can’t give Darren McFadden the ball when the o-line can’t open holes. O-line coach and OC are NOT on the same page. Be careful buying into the ZBS. Still doesn’t work. It looked like a clunker yesterday against a very poor team. KC is more imploded than SD. When the gamers (PALMER, McFAD, MOORE, DHB, and the slowly improving D) call their own game, we move the ball.
It took McFadden three fcking quarters to wear the KC defense out. Does knapp realize he’s gonna wear Darren out if he doesn’t get other backs involved? WTF.
All I’m saying is, knapp sack huggers be careful. The ZBS barely got by a leaky Kansas Schitty team. knapp needs to buy those guys a steak dinner, cause any other team is gonna make him look not so brilliant.
The Bucs is the real test. If Palmer and crew can go rogue and win this game, we got a legit chance of runnin the table or 11-5. Denver is our only obsticle because Fox can out game plan Dennis and staff any day of the year. It will be up to Palmer and McFadden.
October 29th, 2012 at 8:59 pm
We must zero in on Josh Freeman TB goes as he goes. the Chiefs qbs hurt us with their feet a bit and Josh is capable of doing more damage with his feet. We may have to spy him at times and Seymour & Kelly must keep their eyes on Freeman when the DEs pressure him from the outside.

I was just thinking, maybe part of the reason our run game isn’t working as well, is because Palmer doesn’t sell the play-fake as well as Soup did.
That was Soup’s greatest skill without a doubt, he was real clever with the play-fakes.
Carson just kind of half-azzes them, IMO, not real pleased with it and could lead to the defense kind of knowing what is going on a fraction of a second earlier than before.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The run game doesn’t work because the O-line coach and the OC are not on the same fckn page. Did you notice McFadden was averaging 1 YPC til the end of the 3rd qtr? 1 fckn YPC. McFadden single handedly wore out a weak assed KC defense. That is asking a lot of your running back. What in the world is knapp trying to do to him? Wear him down the the bone? IF we get into the post season, Darren will be friggin worn out. Get some other backs involved in the flow of the game. It’s abuse. Plain and simple.
And another reason the run doesn’t work. The game planning is one dimensional. McFadden was keyed on the entire game. The formations tip off whats coming. I watched 3 to 4 defenders key on Darren every time. And that wasn’t the D line. It’s just plain awful. If it wasn’t for Darrens brute strength and resolve to wear the defense out, we’d a been in hella trouble. Not to mention that bumbling ability by KC. They don’t turn the ball over every damn time they get it, we lose that game.
I sure hope knapp gives Darren a little extra rest, cuz he is over using and abusing him.

You know some times, your team just doesn’t have the right OL ,right WR,Right RB or right QB to succeed in that scheme , yes, knapps play calling leave a lot to be desired but players are not making plays either , like D has to limit Mclains snaps to be good , maybe we should limit McFadden as well but there is no good player to back him up , yes Goodson is finding the holes McFadden is missing but he sucks in pass protection, so there is a lot to a teams struggles then just a coach

Reggie is weaving a quilt. Just as a finely crafted quilt takes time to weave he will need much time to weave his.
It won’t be till the year after next that the rebuilding can truly commence, with a full compliment of draft picks to start the process.
This will take upwards of 5 yr’s. to really see any results, so we are talking 7 yr’s. easily before some semblence of success can be seen. I predict a 9-7 season in year 8 of Reggies tenure and perhaps 10-6 in yr. 9 and maybe 10-6 again in year 10. Year 11 we could very well be talking about an appearence in the playoffs if everything goes as scheduled.
Year 13 should see a deep run..but nothing is guaranteed. I can see an AFC Chanpionship appearence in year 13 of 14 and a possible SB appearence in yr. 15, with a chance to win the big game in yr. 16 or 17.
Reggie is the great “Quilt Crafter” here and like anything of value, it takes much time to build.
Patience is called for and will be rewarded.

Can’t believe some players think if we can just change 1 thing ,we will be the best team ever
————-
If that 1 thing is firing Knapp then yes. we were the 9th ranked offense last year THATS A TOP 10 OFFENSE FOLKS. If it wasnt for Knapp this team would be on cruise control just like the 9ers on a collision course for the battle of the Bay NFL style.

We can be top 10 O with this O too , if OL will run block better and McFadden have right vision to find the open holes, our Receivers get open more and catch passes when they do

Good comment, Fred.
The thing is, it was none other than Al Davis who left this team to his son. If Al insisted on things being done his way, even after his death, he would have put something in writing leaving football operations to Trask or Herrera, someone like that. Keeping both his wife and son out of the football loop, then leaving the team to the tells me that maybe Al himself wasn’t a great fan of the way things were being done. I’ve heard people say before that Al really wasn’t the problem, it was his henchmen, who’ve basically taken over the team since his health faded. Heard rumors it was Trask who ran Gruden out. Who knows. Bottom line is, and this is what we do know, Al Davis left this organization to his wife and son, and gave them complete control to hire whoever they wanted to run football operations. They hired McKenzie. So, McKenzie IS Al’s guy. He’s only here because the guy who Al put in charge hired him.

Good post. But I disagree. Al left the organization to his son and wife because he wanted things to continue Al’s way. I mean obviously he’s going to leave it to his family, but wasn’t Mark being groomed to be another AD type of guy, or did he never express a desire to coach/general manage?
Knowing how stubborn Al is, Im sure he tried to convince Mark to be more active in the organization.

I like the idea of patience.
However, patience needs to be tempered with ruthlessness.
Rome was not built in a day – it took time.
It also took the vicious slaughter of millions of Celts, Huns, Vandals and other barbarians.
Time and ruthlessness together built an Empire.
Al was ruthless but he was also impatient.
Promising coaches were purged before their plans could be finalized.
Reggie needs TIME to assess what is working and what is not, and then RUTHLESSNESS to weed out the inefficient and the non performers.

October 30th, 2012 at 12:11 am
Kid101,
Looking at it from a legal standpoint, Al put Mark in charge. End of story. As to why he did? Nobody knows for sure. Everyone’s guess is speculation. But he did. As far as we know, everything we see right now is what Al intended, as hard as that may be for some to believe. If, say, John Herrera tried to sue the team right now because he has some fax or something claiming Al wanted him in charge of football operations, that’s how a court would likely rule. Herrera’s claims wouldn’t stack up to Al’s will, which I believe is the most powerful factor in these regards. Al left Mark in charge. As far as anyone knows, Al wanted Mark in charge, and wanted Mark to do what he felt was right. Otherwise, he would have left someone else in charge. Plenty of candidates right there in the building if Al had wanted his successor to do things his way.

I rem Giants had even worse record through midseason last year and fans like you claimed they’re not the same team but guess who won the SB last season?? Hopefully you understand the morale of the story
—-
Good point. Basically anything can happen in the NFL, just like “one of the worst teams can take GB to the wire.” Once the Giants got into the playoffs though, they were dangerous enough to win the Superbowl, just as ANY team could, since anything can happen in the playoffs.
But honestly man that argument ur using is flawed. Keep using that kind of logic and you’ve probably convinced yourself that the Raiders are going to the Superbowl this season!
LMAO. Ya I used to think that way, and see where that logic has gotten me these last 10 years. Big letdown man.

Anyhow, I’m out of here for the night. Good luck to anyone who comments after me. You’ll get this annoying little pissant, McFadden20, accusing you of being me, and he’ll put you on his impotent, ignored “troll list”. God what a delusional fool who loves the illusion of having any kind of relevancy whatsoever. He couldn’t call the shots at a lemonade stand much less play hall monitor on a blog. Goodnight.

I never predicted we will go to the Super Bowl and I don’t care if real fans want to see consistency and want to remain skeptical ..I just have problem believing these guys are fans who are talking about the previous management , yes that (dead management) every day of their lives, I have hard time believing these guys are fans when they only show up when Raiders lose on Sundays and never show up when they win , Sullivan showed up right after the Niners game ended and kept bragging about them , and you guys have problem with me calling these trolls out and tell me I’m feeding this troll ..when you guys are agreeing with every bs this whiners fan spits out , maybe that’s your way of not feeding the troll

Yeah I feed the troll? How ??when I point this trolls out and tell them to stfu they usually leave and when I’m here after a while ,reading a new post and reading new comments I could see these trolls go on n on for hours talking about how every thing sucks about our team and how they’re talking about the same thing since 5 years , how our wins are fluke and how much good the team across the bay is and they get mad if some positive guy comes in here and attack that guy .. You accuse me of feeding him , tell me what do you get out of agreeing with these trolls, do they go like oh some one agreed with us we will leave the blog now , yeah right .. You only force these guys to stay here even longer and continue on about one thing for the whole day , it’s like a work place , there is one guy who talks everything negative about our QB and talks up every scrub black QB then there is this well known guy who freaking has to talk about someone who is not even living anymore like every single day and you guys agree with him and yet I’m the one who’s feeding the trolls?

I been reading up all the posts , but to say we beat the bad teams or barely squeezed by them is just BS , we did what we had to on our schedule and we can’t freaking ask for undefeated teams every single week to prove to fans we’re good .. Not saying we’re good but we won is all that matters .. we game planned better and we played better in 2nd halves of games which we didn’t do at all last few years .. God knows how many games we just laid an egg in 2nd halves of those games past few years .. So I’m def proud of this team for taking this step and playing well even with run game not helping out and both of our corners injured , now am i saying we will keep winning rest of the year, nope but I’m def proud of the step this team is taking and I think they’re on the verge of getting this run game going and are going to get both of the starting CB’s back so I’m excited about that prospect , but I’m also aware we could face some major injuries and we could go winless rest of their year.. I just hope that never happens an this D keeps playing like the way it has been playing the last 3 weeks and running game going and we become a team that is one no team wants to face …

I’m not raving about them either but I think you would have to be some dumb guy to not see all the improvements we have made from years past … 1.. We always sucked on D , couldn’t stop run and couldn’t stop top teams ..we’re stopping the run and we have proven we can stop top O’s by limiting Atl O , I know it’s a small example but it was a good effort, 2. We have shown that we can make adjustments in 2nd halves.. Something we have sucked at and something we never did under hue no matter how many Hue lovers want him back , but he sucked in 2nd halves.. Our QB is throwing less picks with not much support , the only blemish we can point out is our running game sucks , but I see that turning as well and I can see this scheme paying hug dividends for the future … This scheme is known to turn late round picks and undrafted players into stars (All running backs under Shanahan, A Foster and many others , which saves the money and also is known to succeed with late round OL , so that can save us money and important draft picks to spend on likes of Wide receivers , Dl , Lbers and Cb’s

We def did that and i believe our run and pass ratio was about 50/50 .. We jus need to get better at running the run plays better and McFadden has to get on phone with Arian Foster or someone and start hitting those open holes, our O-line is not consistent with opening up holes but McFadden is also doing bad job of finding them the few times they’re there

Good points. We have shown lots of improvement. Our LB’ers are coming up big this year, and are thriving in this scheme. Reggie has added some good guys, some are fill-ins, but they work for now.
The key thing here is that it’s hard to compare this team to years past. Everything is different. If we continue to improve, and not take steps back we will certainly be dangerous.
We need to keep these core guys: Houston, Wheeler, Veldheer, Palmer, Mcfadden, Huff, Myers, Moore, Saughnessy, Wiz.
If we can find more gems like Burris, and draft well like I know Reggie will, we are contenders.

He has done a very good job on returns, for Raider standards at least, and hasn’t put the ball on the turf.
Taiwan fumbles everything he touches pretty much, and Adams fumbled a punt already, so not sure who would replace him, and either of them give me agita just thinking about it.

On another note. It is rumored that DeAngelo Williams is on the trading block. Would anyone consider trading DMC and a conditional pick for Williams?
McFaddden is due 5.8 mil next year. Williams is due 4.75 mil next year
McFadden got 21 mil in guaranteed money, Williams 26 mil
McFadden is 25, but Williams is 29 (big sticking point) however, with Seymour gone, the Raiders might be able to squeeze through.
The flipside; McFadddn might blow up with Cam Newton and Panthers and they are loaded at RB already.
thoughts?

>>>>>
Phew… I just spit my energy drink through my nose.
ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND?!?
Everybody in the entire stadium knows that the Raiders run up the gut nearly every first down. You think we need to do it MORE?
Here’s the first down running plays: -1, 2, 4, 4, 4,4, 0, -1, 2, 2, 19, 2, 1, 4, 2, 2, 2, -1
18 plays for 51 yards. 2.83 ypc
Passing plays on first:
0 (int) 23, 8, 0 (24 yards called back) 7, 16, 0, 6
8 plays for 62 yards. 7.75 YPP
The interception could have been avoided if DHB pretended he was an actual NFL receiver and made a play on the ball, and the 24 yarder called back was a holding call on Veldeer. If that hadn’t been called back we would have averaged 10.75 per pass on first down.
And you want to run the ball MORE?
Wowsers….

The flipside; McFadddn might blow up with Cam Newton and Panthers and they are loaded at RB already.
thoughts?

Trade DMC and conditional pick for an older and less talented RB ,are you freaking out of your mind?

DHB did mess up on that first play…He can make the odd big play but just doesn’t have the instincts to be a reliable # 1 WR.
-/////
He always never fight for those balls in the air, either he don’t want to get hit in the air or he will never b good with those kinda passes
October 30th, 2012 at 7:57 am
#442: Agreed…He’s a #2 at best, ideally a #3 or #4.
October 30th, 2012 at 8:03 am
Klas would trade a 4th rounder for Deangelo Williams. No more than that.
October 30th, 2012 at 8:04 am
Sam…..
I’ll stick my neck out and say there’ll be no trades in or out.
October 30th, 2012 at 8:05 am
I wish we could trade for a starting centre so that Wiz can move back to guard – just don’t see it happening.
October 30th, 2012 at 8:06 am
Odds that Norv get fired if he loses to Chiefs Thursday? Klas says 66% chance.

Too bad Raiders couldn’t have signed Kopen when he was cut.
October 30th, 2012 at 8:08 am
Moore should have been the guy testing Routt on the first play… and then DHB on the bubble screen.
Moore does better with less on deep throws, DHB more explosive on short throws.
Knapp has everything backwards for some reason… nothing he does makes sense to me.
October 30th, 2012 at 8:09 am
#448: I think Koppen jumped at the chance to play with Peyton.

Both Norv and Romeo deserve long contract extensions.
October 30th, 2012 at 8:22 am
Right now I would say the chances of Norphus being gone would be 95%. It’s not that the window slammed shut it is more like the house totally crumbled. But the Dischargers have been in this position before and they do what good teams do: kick it up a gear.
Good teams seem to be able to do that in games and at the right time. Look at the SF Giants. Their back kept going to the wall and they kept kicking it up a notch until they were unbeatable. Let’s see if we can do that right about now.

finally came to terms with DHB being a bust. I like the guy, he’s improved leaps and bounds and it isn’t like Crabtree, Maclin, Britt or Nicks are setting the world on fire but DHB is a #3 receiver. Dwayne Bowe or Steve Smith sure would look nice in Silver and Black…

Giants struggled in the NL playoffs, then laughed their way through the World Series.

Yeah, like to see DHB work more in the slot.
why…
(1) Pretty good blocker, would help in the run game.
(2) Easier to see the mismatch at the line of scrimage.
(3) He would be going against the worst DB.
October 30th, 2012 at 8:44 am

It’s all about getting a good offer from another team.
TK might be in the mix.
Maybe we can trade Pryor to the Jets so they can use him to cover kickoffs.
October 30th, 2012 at 8:47 am
Chicharito also had a sweet goal. Go Man U!
Anyone want to talk about why, if Knapp is the next coming of Tom Walsh, are the Raiders ranked ahead of the Packers in total offense per game?
I agree with everyone else that this offense could be better and play calls more creative but…those are the numbers.
October 30th, 2012 at 8:50 am
472. I dont think knapp has played to many of the players strenghts.. but the olines starting to get it at least.
October 30th, 2012 at 8:57 am
gotta believe plax is being blackballed cuz the guy had 8 td’s last year besides a consistent run game TD’s is what our O needs

TK could be traded, but that’s about it. Everyone else either has no trade value (McClain) or is too valuable (Huff). Mostly the former, unfortunately.

bottom line with this rebuild effort:
-Routt and Boss are perfect for the Chiefs
-NO ONE wanted Campbell or Bush as a starter
-NO ONE offered Hue a job on offense
-Kam Wimbley?????
-DVD????
Yet:
-Raiders are more disciplined on both sides of the ball
-Raiders can tackle
-Raiders gang tackle
-Raiders can stop the run
-Wheeler, Burris, Lee and Hanson all make plays
-Raiders can finally score points at the end of halves
-Raiders can finally score in the 4th quarter
-Raiders have actually won games where they had to come from behind
It’s a process, and I’m okay with the progress that is made every week.
Knapp and Hoffman are idiots though.
