Bartell practicing for first time in long time

By Steve Corkran
Wednesday, October 31st, 2012 at 11:58 am in Oakland Raiders.

Cornerback Ron Bartell is practicing today for the first time since he suffered a shoulder injury in the regular-season opener.
Bartell was placed on injured reserve/designated to return after his injury, and he wasn’t permitted to return to practice until last Saturday. Given the Raiders were in Kansas City that day and not practicing, today was his first opportunity to get back on the field.
Bartell is working with the scout team for now, which makes sense because he needs time to get back into the swing of things and he isn’t able to play in a game until Nov. 11.
The Raiders have a 21-day window in which to activate Bartell to the 53-man roster. Given he can’t play until the Nov. 11 game against the Baltimore Ravens, he likely won’t be activated this week.
Once Bartell is activated, the Raiders have to make a corresponding roster move to free up a spot for Bartell on the 53-man roster.
That means the Raiders are looking at waiving two players from their current roster within the next 10 days or so, with the prospect of linebacker Aaron Curry also being activated.

– Center Stefen Wisniewski is practicing today despite an ankle injury he suffered against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.
Wisniewski’s left ankle is taped rather heavily.
Backup running back Mike Goodson also is practicing on the heels of an injury suffered against the Chiefs. He came out of the game with a turf-toe injury.

– Defensive tackle Richard Seymour is not practicing today. He is on the field, though.
At one point, he spent 15 minutes or so speaking with coach Dennis Allen.

– Right offensive tackle Khalif Barnes (groin) and cornerback Shawntae Spencer also are not practicing. There still is no timetable for their return from injuries suffered against the Miami Dolphins on Sept. 16.
Curry is practicing for the seventh straight time since he returned from the physically unable to perform list. The Raiders have one more week to decide whether to activate Curry, waive him or place him on season-ending injured reserve.

    Sandusky44, are you even a Raider fan???…
    ————–
A fan? Well, considering where I live, there are two teams on my newscasts. Niners and Raiders. I love the Niners for their class, their effort, their teamwork, their coaching staff, and their owners.I love the Raiders for the drama, the dysfunctional fan base, their deceased owner who was the joke of the NFL, and for their cool colors.

Wide receiver Denarius Moore has a chance to become the first Raider with a TD reception in four consecutive games since Tim Brown had a five-game streak from Nov. 5-Dec. 2, 2001.

The Buccaneers also have one of the best run defenses in the league, holding opponents to 85.1 yards per game

RT @FieldYates: The Patriots have waived CB Sterling Moore, and signed DB Derrick Martin and LB Mike Rivera, according to a league source.

Hey doofus maybe you cant count the number of (e)’s in that ID. Fake Beech. Too much Malibu Rum

  • DJ Johnny

Bartell misses the entire 2011 season, we pick him up and the FIRST GAME he plays in he seperates his shoulder and is out at least 7 weeks.

So, we can expect he’ll get an ACL injury his first play back when he returns?

  • dr_robert

wow dan78–u really are there to count the e’s for beeech eh?

seems like only beeech would instantly recognize that he didn’t post that and point out the amount of e’s. looks like old dan78 is none other than beeech himself.

    fish in a barrel.

  • dr_robert

and of course dan78, who ALWAYS come to beeech’s rescue immediately, also throws out the reference to malibu rum that beeech always likes to about kell.

    could it be more obvious.

get ready everyone–dan (or another alias) will claim that they (and their blog “brahs”) are being hilariously entertained by my “meltdown”. aren’t they wonderfully humorous?

  • dr_robert

now it’s gonna take a few minutes for dan78 to change his alias and come in to support both himself and beeech, so get ready. here it comes.

Betsy Ross was an accomplished seamstress and it took even a great woman of her caliber to create what would become our American flag.

It didn’t happen overnight friends, it was a painstaking process, created one delicate seam at a time over a lengthy time period.

That is what Reggie is doing; only Reggie is creating an intricate quilt which has many differing facets.

The end product may be quite grand indeed, but it will take a great deal of patience before we see the finished product.

Next season will be another throw away yr. for Reggie as he eliminates even more bad contracts and will again have limited draft picks in which to work with.

Yr. 3 of his regime should see a full compliment of picks and a little bit of money to spend on free agency. Yr. 4 is where the real “rebuild” begins.

It will take at least 3 seasons (i’m trying to be optimistic) before we see growth from the drafted players and free agents Reggie acquires. Yr. 7 should finally reveal some fruits of his labor, with steady growth we may just see a winning record by year 10. A few years of first or second round losses takes us to year 14…and with a dose of luck, and if divine providence should intervene, we may be looking at a playoff berth.

By year 15 if all goes as planned….a possible deep playoff run.

Give Reggie 10 yr’s. and like a fine quilt reveals superior craftsmanship, Reggies efforts will start to reveal the kind of growth we have waited patiently for.

    Patience…yes patience friends…

A championship team will be woven one painstaking, delicate seam at a time.

    10…and then.

I’m with you guys. If we don’t see a winning record by year 10, then it may time to consider moving in a different direction.

  • Fred

…My apologies. I meant to say we could be looking at an AFC Championship appearence by year 14.

    Let’s cross our fingers.
