Final: Bucs 42, Raiders 32

A Raiders defense that had prided itself on preventing big plays was overwhelmed by them Sunday in a 42-32 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Sunday at O.co Coliseum.
Tampa Bay rookie running back Doug Martin, born in Oakland and raised in Stockton, rushed for 265 yards on 21 carries including touchdown runs of 34, 67, 70 and 1-yard.
Martin’s last touchdown put the Bucs up by the final margin with 1:49 to play. It was the second-most yards given up to the Raiders, behind Shawn Alexander’s 35-carry, 266-yard effort in 2001.
Quarterback Josh Freeman added touchdown passes of 25 yards to Vincent Jackson and 4 yards to Mike Williams, both against cornerback Michael Huff.
Jackson also caught a 64-yard pass against Huff preceding his touchdown as the Bucs improved to 4-4.
The Raiders, down 28-10 at the end of the third quarter, closed to within 35-32 on Carson Palmer’s 13-yard pass to Marcel Reece and a two-point conversion pass to Juron Criner with 3:51 left.
The Raiders, 3-5, got the ball back with 2:42 to play, but Palmer’s overthrown pass was intercepted by Ahmad Black and gave the ball back to the Bucs deep in Oakland territory and set up Martin’s game-clinching touchdown.
Oakland played without running back Darren McFadden after he left with a leg injury in the second quarter. McFadden went to the hospital for X-rays, which were negative, and there was no word on his prognosis.
Running back Mike Goodson, who took over for McFadden, also failed to finish with an ankle injury.
Passing on virtually every down to get the Raiders back in the game, Palmer threw touchdown passes of 25 yards to Rod Streater, 4 and 1 yards to tight end Brandon Myers, and the score to Reece.
Palmer completed 39 of 61 passes for 414 yards and had three interceptions to go along with the four touchdowns. He received some boos after a final interception with the Raiders down by 10 with less than two minutes to play.

We just cant catch a break.
Those 4 pts Streater cost us early really came back to bite us. Our 3rd quarter defense is pathetic. Our O-Line is paper mache when we need them most.
All I know is this, when I called for roll call on who thought we could come back, only McFadden20 was on board. Everyone else jumped ship. The rest of you can go jump off a bridge.
There are a lot of trolls and haters that are happy right now. The Palmer haters have been in hiding for the whole season, this is your cue, enter now. Because without Palmer, we never would have came back in that game.

Our D-Lineman were fine. Our LBs failed us today.
We need a RT in the worst way. And a RG for that matter. Briesel is the reason for those INTs at the end.

We have no running game. Frank Pollack is an absolute disaster as o-line coach, but there’s nothing we can do about that until after the season.
DA kept us in this game at least. Hue would have given up when it went 35-17 and we would’ve lost by 40.

Our problems this year have been the same since week 1
- Poor OLine play
- Horrible 3rd quarter defense
- Poor recieving by our WRs, TEs, and RBs in the red zone
- Inconsistent LB and DE play
The only three problems Ive seen fixed are the penalties, the secondary play, and special teams.
Not bringing Plax or TO in was a mistake. Clearly.

Priest,pretty difficult to run when your 1st 2 RBs are injured and you are down by over 3 scores.If McFadden or Goodson were playing we could have crossed them up with a running play because either can break it.It is obvious the staff has absolutely zero faith in Jones and deservedly so.He fumbled again on his 1st touch today.

Exactly. We ask too much. Our O-Line continually gets blown up and forces Palmer to make crazy throws. Sometimes they work out, sometimes they dont.

They need to start running Reece and use TJ as a change of pace back. At least until DMC gets back and then use Reece as a regualr HB get another FB. Reece is exactly what this offense has been missing.

Tampa Bay came out and stuffed it down our throats. We have shown that we are better at stopping the run this year , but maybe it is also due to teams passing more to work our week cb’s. you have to credit Tampoon Bay with a great job running.
Our running game still sucks and our top two RB’s got hurt. A win would have been epic.

Its not just the run D, there is something WRONG with our defense.
It has been murdered coming out of the half. I dont know what causes that, but DA needs to get to the bottom of it. I dont think it’s an X or Os thing. It’s mental probably.
But it has happened EVERY GAME and it’s largely why we are 3-5 instead of 8-0. We’ve gone into every half with the lead or within a score of the lead and then the other teams just blow us out.
THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM.

X-rays are negative, but, who knows. X-rays were negative when he was done with the Lisfranc injury last season.
Perhaps the injury is significant and DMC lands on IR opening up a roster spot for Aaron Curry.
I honestly believed the Raiders would lay down when the game was 35-17 and lose 52-17. The offense, namely Palmer, showed great drive to get the game to 35-32.
There’s a lot of work that needs to be done roster-wise in Oakland. I’m interested to see where this team stands after 16 games.
I’m really interested to see what the team does in April’s draft and free agency.

In the postgame presser, DA blamed the tackling. No kidding. He might want to add Seymour and Kelly REGULARLY getting muscled out of the way and McClain failing to make the play.
We just had a rookie put up over 200 yards against us, and very little of it was sweeps most of it was right up the middle. McClain, Seymour and Kelly would give back their game checks if they had any pride at all.

If McKenzie gets rid of Seymour and McClain, that would give him more money to play with. McClain’s salary takes a massive jump from this season to next (he’s scheduled to make somewhere near $10 million next year). He’s no longer a full-time player and I find it hard McKenzie will shell out that many greenbacks for a part-timer player.
The draft is where it gets interesting. I’ve read and heard Raider scouts are keeping a close eye on Kansas State QB Collin Klein.
But will a first-round QB really be the answer?
Wouldn’t McKenzie and the Raiders be better served drafting a defensive player or top tier tackle to plug in at right tackle?

Exactly, the complextion of the defense changed after that big play. But getting pressure on the QB in that situation is on the DEs, who by and large, have been missing most of the year.
We need RT, RG, DEs, and then our WRs need to grow the F up and start making all the plays theyre supposed to make.
But it all doesnt matter. We should have gone into the half with a 21-7 lead and we didnt. That changes the whole game.
And the 3rd quarter mystery needs to be front and center. DA cant hide from this issue anymore. IDK what they are doing at halftime but it aint working.

CP3 cannot wait til we are behind the game to go into the no huddle because it relies on our defense stopping them. Once our run game was stuffed, the team became to reliant on the pass, tho it worked outta the no huddle in the fourth. 19 yards is equivelant to a pretty much dead running game. The no huddle offense works. Whats wrong with this picture? Play calling and scheme.
The no huddle works, but we don’t use it til its to late.
The gap run works but we don’t use it.
Martin rips us apart and we don’t key him.

He made an emotional decision last week to give the team a day off after winning 2 games in a row against teams with a combined record of 2-14….
Safe to say Coach Allen wishes to be liked by his team….rather than respected…
This team lost because of a lack of preparation….because of our day off….we had 5 days to prepare for the Bucs…while they had 10….
Once again, this team has the horses to get the job done….but no Coaches to lead them….
What is worse is the staff takes no responsibility….NONE….instead they blame the players and their apparent poor tackling…..

Not going to blame Carson for forcing the issue. Would have been nice to take a deep breath, but it is like a hoop team that comes back from 25 down raining 3’s.

And you conveniently ignore the fact that in game 7 last year Kyle freaking Boller was our starting QB and was so bad that Hue had to replace him with Carson who didn’t even know the playbook. I’m a big Palmer fan as you guys know but he needs to come through some time.
We can blame the int. against SD on Ford falling down, the one in Atl. was all Palmer and then he ALMOST pulled off the miracle today, but this is getting sooo old now.
Palmer makes the big comeback and everything is set up nice and then…he throws the KILLER int.
We can blame it on Streator for not being where he’s supposed to be but at some point Palmer has got to close it out and win a big game like this and be the man despite everything.
The excuses I make for him are valid i think but i guess i’m just sick of having to make them.
Does that make sense?

This game is 100% on Dennis Allen….
He made an emotional decision last week to give the team a day off after winning 2 games in a row against teams with a combined record of 2-14….
Safe to say Coach Allen wishes to be liked by his team….rather than respected…
This team lost because of a lack of preparation….because of our day off….we had 5 days to prepare for the Bucs…while they had 10….
Once again, this team has the horses to get the job done….but no Coaches to lead them….
What is worse is the staff takes no responsibility….NONE….instead they blame the players and their apparent poor tackling…..

And one more thing, did you happen to read the Tampa injury report vs. ours? They had 3 guys listed as probable. That’s it. Not questionables, no doubtfuls. We still don’t have either of our starting corners and r really missing Ford in the slot (Moore was there all day today, maybe that was his problem. Streeter played the Y receiver), and Willie friggin smith should go out and shoot himself and his family. He’s gonna get Palmer killed. Point is, think maybe we could USE a day off? DA doesn’t care if these guys like him, only of they respect them. Half of them won’t even be here in 2013.

Yes, the d-line/LBs gave up a ton of inexcusable yards rushing. But our offense can’t keep going 3 and out, 3 and out, 3 and out, constantly punting the ball back for the first 3 quarters expecting our defense to bail them out.

35-32 we get the ball n im thinking could this be the day it turns for us? cp3 tremendous effort but seemed like he had nothing left in the end. the lbs had a bad day as did seymour and kelly. on one of martin’s runs he cut back in between kelly and seymour and was off to the races. Down 18 in the 4th and with 2:30 left we have the ball with a chance to win. Wrs made some plays but no one stood out, it really was Cp3 carrying us. that qb sneak on 4th and 2 was amazing.
in the end we are 3-5 , 1 game out of the wild card. ill keep hoping until i see this team quit. 1st half our D was good O was bad. 2nd half D was bad , O was good. look forward to when both units play well for an entire game.

Makes sense. I wish it were true. But I still don’t put this on him. Something just occurred to me il while I making my last post. DMoore played the slot all day. That’s not his spot. He’s a Y. Streeter played the Y. That’s why Moore looked clueless, and actually caused the first two picks. I’m not making excuses. And I’m sure Palmer an Moore won’t either, but I really think that’s what happened. Should have left Hagen in the slot and used streeter to spell Bey and Moore. May have worked better.

Our run defense looked like the run defense of 2009. We got gashed. It killed us. Timely interceptions didn’t help.
We showed fight. This is not a playoff team that we watch every week. Its a team showing some promise, and some struggle. Bad loss- but still heading in the right direction.
Lost to a good football team today, but looked like an actual NFL team in the process. Knowing what we knew coming into the season about the fallacies of this team: I’m OK with it. Its hard to swallow, but the Raiders are a team rebuilding. We’ve just been able to take games here and there.

I’m a Palmer fan but today, he just sucked. He would have made Linda Lovelace proud. For the first 3 quarters the whole team was just simply bad. Palmer was just off on every aspect of his game today. The drops didn’t help either but most of it was on Palmer. The dink & dunks killed us. we only seem effective of 20+ yard plays. There was some excitement at the end of the game but it was over early & we played it that way.
On the D I can say there were a number of key WHIFFS by our own McCheese. IMO, we should dump this guy as soon as possible. He’s more of a detriment than contributor. There is NO FUTURE for him in Oakland.

i respect those opinions about cp3 needs to deliver a win. i realize wins and losses are all that matters. but in palmers defense, his WRs are all average or below average. we have speed , but guys dont go up and make plays.
our Oline play is sad. Our RBs havent delivered, yet Palmer in spite of all the negatives around him is manging to keep our team competitive. If you were to list offensive players on the raiders who are in the top 50% of the league at their position it would be hard to come up with anyone but Palmer.
Sadly Dmac injury isnt even a big deal at this point.

It was really weird that after the first 3rd quarter TD, the whole stadium, at least from my couch, seemed very out of it. You can hear booing, no cheering, no excitement.

ah we lost another game and all the boo birds came out loud and proud on here. We’re 1 game behind my predicted 4-4 at this point in the season. There are a few things we learned today.
1. Let’s stop force feeding the ball to DMAC. Let’s play like NE or GB and use our passing game to set up our ground game. We proved we can score and score plenty when we go with a more passing focus.
2. Tommy Kelly and Seymour are overpaid and overrated. Reggie needs to solve their cap hit.
3. Doug Martin is the real deal. I thought Tampa was stupid for not running him more in the first half. We never really stopped him in the first half. Tampa stopped him by not running him. He is so small and so strong. Dlinemen and LBs were bouncing off of him today. He did things today that DMAC has never done…breaking tackles with LBs.
So have at it boo birds. We’re going to be fine and start scoring now that we are going to stop force feeding DMAC.

Also, DA made some rookie coach decisions. Knapp called too many long passes when we had the ball towards the end. I know that was working but I would have liked to get some first downs and get at least a FG, try.
The way he was playing it he must of thought a TD was necessary, which I don’t doubt him with Martin beating us down…..

Yes, you hit the nail on the head!!! It simple stuff like this ALLEN and Reggie cannot get corrected that puts the Raiders in the hole right away in games. Tell the returners if they cant get the ball to the twenty yard line do not take it out on kickoffs and on punts one move and go. Don’t ask for anything more until they get comfortable back there.Coach Allen should make that the rule for the next game!!!

The bucs led by josh freeman and doug martin manhandled our beloved raiders. They bludgeoned at beat them at every turn. The bucs are not any where a top team, they are middle of the road at best. They fell asleep at the wheel, as middling teams will do, and let the raiders make a late run. However they did enough end the end to prove that they are a better team than the raiders. The defense is better, the offense is better, and the qb is better.
The raiders on the other hand continued to prove and hammer home the fact that they still have not met mediocrity, and only struggle against the bottom feeders of the nfl.
Carson palmer with 3 second half picks also is closer to cementing his dubious distinction as one of the all time sports trade bust. Three and five, barley alive, no super bowl, no validation.

bush 10 carries 16 yds in todays game. lol..hes averaging 3.7 yds per carry this year. i doubt he would average more than 2-3 yds per carry with our offensive line. my point is he wasnt worth the money he got in chicago. I also dont think he either is a good fit for zbs either.
