Final: Bucs 42, Raiders 32

A Raiders defense that had prided itself on preventing big plays was overwhelmed by them Sunday in a 42-32 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Sunday at O.co Coliseum.

Tampa Bay rookie running back Doug Martin, born in Oakland and raised in Stockton, rushed for 265 yards on 21 carries including touchdown runs of 34, 67, 70 and 1-yard.

Martin’s last touchdown put the Bucs up by the final margin with 1:49 to play. It was the second-most yards given up to the Raiders, behind Shawn Alexander’s 35-carry, 266-yard effort in 2001.

Quarterback Josh Freeman added touchdown passes of 25 yards to Vincent Jackson and 4 yards to Mike Williams, both against cornerback Michael Huff.

Jackson also caught a 64-yard pass against Huff preceding his touchdown as the Bucs improved to 4-4.

The Raiders, down 28-10 at the end of the third quarter, closed to within 35-32 on Carson Palmer’s 13-yard pass to Marcel Reece and a two-point conversion pass to Juron Criner with 3:51 left.

The Raiders, 3-5, got the ball back with 2:42 to play, but Palmer’s overthrown pass was intercepted by Ahmad Black and gave the ball back to the Bucs deep in Oakland territory and set up Martin’s game-clinching touchdown.

Oakland played without running back Darren McFadden after he left with a leg injury in the second quarter. McFadden went to the hospital for X-rays, which were negative, and there was no word on his prognosis.

Running back Mike Goodson, who took over for McFadden, also failed to finish with an ankle injury.

Passing on virtually every down to get the Raiders back in the game, Palmer threw touchdown passes of 25 yards to Rod Streater, 4 and 1 yards to tight end Brandon Myers, and the score to Reece.

Palmer completed 39 of 61 passes for 414 yards and had three interceptions to go along with the four touchdowns. He received some boos after a final interception with the Raiders down by 10 with less than two minutes to play.

I see that on just about every play. On this play it just happens to be a hold. What gives?

This game is 100% on Dennis Allen….

He made an emotional decision last week to give the team a day off after winning 2 games in a row against teams with a combined record of 2-14….

Safe to say Coach Allen wishes to be liked by his team….rather than respected…

This team lost because of a lack of preparation….because of our day off….we had 5 days to prepare for the Bucs…while they had 10….

Once again, this team has the horses to get the job done….but no Coaches to lead them….

What is worse is the staff takes no responsibility….NONE….instead they blame the players and their apparent poor tackling…..

Coaches are to blame for today’s loss!

    End of discussion’

Get real. Seymour, Kelly and McClain wouldn’t have tackled any better with an extra YEAR’S worth of practices. They’re slugs, pure and simple.

As of right now, we are .4 points per game behind last years offense.

Ausberry must see some action and get a package or two with Pryor, second half of the season will be a nightmare if our third quarter play continues, furious comeback but when you are driving for the tying or maybe winning score take the sack instead of throwing the pick!!!! Reese is a beast and 45 needs to be more involved as well.

Smith held on the play, legit call.

Tough loss out there today. Remember the same thing happening with Ronnie Brown in Miami and Shaun Alexander with Seattle.

  • KRAWFDADD

I have no issues with the no huddle but you have to make reads and call plays, for an example pitt-den everytime paolomalu came down in the box audible to pass when he plays hi deep solo run,.Reading defense is all im stressing and Carson is a “SEASONED VET”and that was the time to seperate yourself from the average and put yourself in the upper echelon checking down a time or two wouldnt have hurt…..not blaming the game on him jus saying

    Good coaching wins games.

    Lousy coaching loses games.

  • RaiderRetribution

Raiders are solid at WR, remember DHB & Hagan are our veterans within this unit; they’re growing.

OLine really missed Barnes today, Smith’s holding call cost our easiest touchdown of the season.

Run defense- time to move Houston inside; activate both Bartell & Curry.

Did Gio ever return, that did not look good at all; would not be surprised Huff back at FS, Gio on IR (mcfadden also for that matter).

  • Just Fire Baby

Offense was in pure panic mode for about an hour of real time.

Not going to blame Carson for forcing the issue. Would have been nice to take a deep breath, but it is like a hoop team that comes back from 25 down raining 3′s.

If they get close and shoot a forced 3 down the stretch, you can’t really blame them.

Why the bagging on Palmer. Did everyone see Martin bust THREE LLLLOOOONNNNNGGG runs? Breaking about 4 tackles each one.

  • lefty12

TB was better than we were today. At the end, when they needed to pressure Palmer, they did. When we had to stop them, their rookie RB broke off big plays.Their players are better than our players.

  • http://www.GodIsImaginary.com RaiderDuck

No reason at all to bag on Palmer. He’s the first Raider QB since LBJ was President to throw for 400 yards and 4 touchdowns in a game. Not his fault Seymour made one big play and decided to take a powder the rest of the game, and Kelly and McClain weren’t even that good.

    =============

Yes, it is killing us but you are beyond lying to make that comparison. I don’t think anyone would say Jason Campbell is better Carson. And you conveniently ignore the fact that in game 7 last year Kyle freaking Boller was our starting QB and was so bad that Hue had to replace him with Carson who didn’t even know the playbook. We scored ZERO points that game, really affects that point average doest it? not to mention, Carson never got any REAL practice in Hue’s offense. It was all on the fly last year. Also, you may wanna compare our rushing game to last year….Maybe that is PART of the reason the defense is giving up so many points cuz they are on the field so much..

  • oakfoshow
