Chiefs waive Routt; might Raiders be interested

By Steve Corkran
Monday, November 5th, 2012 at 11:50 am in Oakland Raiders.

The Kansas City Chiefs waived veteran cornerback Stanford Routt on Monday, eight games into a long-term contract Routt signed shortly after he was waived by the Raiders.
That begs the question, might the Raiders be interested in re-signing Routt?
Perhaps. We’ll ask coach Dennis Allen that question today during Allen’s weekly news conference. It’s unlikely the Raiders will put in a waiver claim on Routt, given they would be on the hook for a $10 million option bonus in 2013.
If a team claims a waived player, they inherit the player’s contract as it is structured. The way around the option bonus is to renegotiate the contract or accept it as is and deal with it when the time comes.
Given the Raiders get back cornerback Ron Bartell for this Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens and cornerback Shawntae Spencer is making progress in his recovery from a right foot injury, it’s less likely that the Raiders will bite on a player they waived during the offseason.
Still, don’t rule it out with the way the Raiders pass defense performed against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Routt was Oakland’s No. 1 cornerback last season, and he certainly is better than some of the cornerbacks currently on the 53-man roster.

What’s a check casher? A player who’s pay grossly exceeds their production. A leader paid to be “elite” but is avg on his best days and utter filth on worst days

Sapp as well as Javon Walker, Hall, Warren, TURDell,Jordan,Moss,Wilson and on and on and on.

Just because we give a guy a uniform does not mean he should be in the NFL (See Routt).

Reggie and Dennis have a lot of work to do.

  • r8eray

Kelly, what’s up with that scruffy look your sporting?

I thought you looked like 0bama?

    Lol..

On that 3rd and forever to go long pass to Vjax, GIo let him run right by him for a 66 yard gain , and our Oline just stood there 10 yards away from Freeman, i think he could have took his Gf to a movie and dinner in that time and came back to throw that pass to VJAX

  • http://www.Raiders.com KoolKell

Aaaah yeah, the Raiders are losing because “Players”, wink wink, are taking their NFL Food-stamp checks and buying Cadillac’s, without working…………..yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Boller was complete garbage…..in fact, my old friend, Bruce Garbagekowski should have remained as the backup. But Hue knew what a sensitive soul Campbell was, and knew that if Campbell had to look over his shoulder, even at the Garbage man, it would throw him off his (ever so limited) game.

One of the many reasons Jason Campbell was never the answer as a starter and is a backup now.

After starting QB goes down we have this to choose from.
CARSON VS BOLLER & THEN UNPROVEN COLLEGE QB.

Easy for me to make that call.

Who cares??? The issue is that Palmer isn’t the solution!!! For a 1st and 2nd rounder, he was supposed to be.

    ++++++++++

Palmer is supposed to fix an abysmal running game and a defense that would’ve had a hard time stopping a Division III runner yesterday?
    @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

Fair enough. But if he can’t fix those problems, why the hell did we ever trade for him??? We could have put Ceasar from Planet of the Apes under center to miss the playoffs last year and go 3-5 this year. Meanwhile, we would have had our 1st and 2nd rounders to help “fix the problems”.

Anybody can look good with best running game in the NFL, compare Freeman’s stats from this year to last year and maybe you will figure out why the big difference

  • r8eray

Coach Dennis Allen told reporters Monday that Darren McFadden (high ankle sprain) has not been ruled out for Week 10 at Baltimore.
Per Allen, DMC was begging Sunday to reenter the game against the Bucs, but the medical staff apparently wouldn’t clear him to do so. The Raiders are desperate in the backfield, so we wouldn’t rule out them pushing McFadden to play, even if he’s not 100 percent. This could be another game-time-decision situation.

    Hey Debo,

I will tell you what. I will snap you the ball and you try and throw a 10 yard pass while I crush you with my chick’s smart car.

Jason Campbell got 2nd string shoes. That means they are tiny.

  • L.A. Raider Dave

No, Debo it isnt. We needed a starting QB. Not 2 rookies and a back-up QB.

Darren will suit up, run 4 times for 9 yards, and limp off again.

The ZBS may suck, but implementing a system specifically for the most injury prone RB in the NFL would have been just as stupid.

If you’re sitting at 4-2 or whatever record we had at the time JC went down, and you haven’t made the playoffs in 10 years , every body would trade for a good QB to give us a chance to make the playoffs for 2 picks in separate years

If you do not think the defensive PLAYERS (primarily the line) mailed it in yesterday then what was the problem?

Doug Martin alone wouldn’t have made the difference, you need O line and good scheme , you need some kinda pass threat to negate 8 men in the box , which TB have with Vjax and M Williams

So lets see , tell the other 52 players that our QB went down so we will give up on the season with 10 games to go because we don’t want to give up an unknown # 1 next year and unknown # 2 pick 2 years from now to try to make the playoffs, which is something we haven’t done in 10 years , but that # 1 pick will surely take us to the playoffs next year , Is that something he should have done?

It has not worked out because we’re still saddled with same problems from last year and 2 of our strengths from last year (Running game and Ol) have turned into weaknesses this year

  • Just Fire Baby

But the Ravens have a crappy run D, so “D-Mac” is enough of a flash guy to go for 217 yards out of nowhere.

  • hwnrdr

    Ok, how about this…
Do you guys think it’s fair that Palmer gets all the rap in here for losing the game yesterday? Some people have an agenda against Palmer, which is fine, everyone is entitled to their own opinion! However, was it Palmer’s fault that JC went down and Boller was who we all knew he to be and get traded to the Raiders giving up the 2012 1st round pick and the conditional 2013 2nd rounder? In years past, I have never seen any quarter back from being down 18 and at least a shot! We came back against a pretty good Pitt team down 10! And for once, I do not see any quit in the team! Defense, it looked like they did yesterday, but not the offense!

Take away one player getting hurt(Condo) and 2 bad INTs and we are sitting at 5-2. I can live with that considering we have no run game.

I think if we run by committee, we can still make the playoffs. McFadden is not worth giving every snap too. He is definitly not worth resigning.

One of the glaring differences between our “D” and TB was that their open field tackling was far superior, in that they tackled everything below the waist, whereas we were playing some kinda’ touch/flag football defense. Player can’t move if your wrapped around their legs. Romac’s positioning at the attack on the line of scrimmage was absolutely awful, and please Reg don’t bring Routt back.
