Chiefs waive Routt; might Raiders be interested
By Steve Corkran
Monday, November 5th, 2012 at 11:50 am in Oakland Raiders.
The Kansas City Chiefs waived veteran cornerback Stanford Routt on Monday, eight games into a long-term contract Routt signed shortly after he was waived by the Raiders.
That begs the question, might the Raiders be interested in re-signing Routt?
Perhaps. We’ll ask coach Dennis Allen that question today during Allen’s weekly news conference. It’s unlikely the Raiders will put in a waiver claim on Routt, given they would be on the hook for a $10 million option bonus in 2013.
If a team claims a waived player, they inherit the player’s contract as it is structured. The way around the option bonus is to renegotiate the contract or accept it as is and deal with it when the time comes.
Given the Raiders get back cornerback Ron Bartell for this Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens and cornerback Shawntae Spencer is making progress in his recovery from a right foot injury, it’s less likely that the Raiders will bite on a player they waived during the offseason.
Still, don’t rule it out with the way the Raiders pass defense performed against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Routt was Oakland’s No. 1 cornerback last season, and he certainly is better than some of the cornerbacks currently on the 53-man roster.

You throw up those late back-footed heaves when you have 30 seconds left and no timeouts. Those are plays where you pray for a miracle and expect the INT. But Carson didn’t need to gamble there.
===========
I’ll have to re-watch that play, but first glance, it didn’t look like a gamble. 1st pass was about 4 inches shy of being a completion to Streater. ON the INT, the ball looked like a lame duck. Either he lost his grip on it while in motion, or his arm got hit while throwing. Either way the ball didn’t look like it was flying right. the other side is, we’ve seen some uncharacteristic play from DMoore…He’s been out of position more than once, in this game even. Plus how many drops that were right on the money? Coulda been a number of factors on that last pick. Believe me, I was completely deflated…..But up until then I’d seen something I hadn’t witnessed in quite awhile. A QB in CHARGE; shouting orders, calling audibles, pointing out defenders, getting guys up to the line of scrimmage AND getting us in the endzone. I’d written them off in the 3rd qtr. Palmer “Almost” led one of the best come backs of the last decade. Sh*t, he made ME beleive….I roll with Carson.

Martin’s big runs were almost all up the middle, right past Seymour and Kelly and right into McClain’s area. None of them did their jobs. If Martin had made all his big runs on sweeps, that’d be something else. But they were all cutback runs right up the gut.

That onside kick never led to anything for TB, and why not try to get the ball back down 10 points with like 6 minutes to go and we just allowed 150 yards on 2 plays the last time we had D on the field

Routt. Another former Raider that now will be playing for Mel’s Tavern in a local rough touch league.
I simply can not say it enough, we have had guys stealing Al’s money masquerading as NFL players for the last decade.THE LAST DECADE.
Sapp, Sands, Warren, Buchannon, JR, Javon Walker, Deangelo Hall, Moss, Lamont Jordan etc.
What a pathetic mess.

Reggie will get it fixed but what a total embarrassing disaster.

Just the fact that you even suggested it Cork, is really, REALLY insulting. Though Reggie and his brain trust have worked out questionable players, none are as bad as Routt and none can even begin to approach the damage Routt has caused the Raiders in games as far as penalties, lost yardage and lost opportunities.
Re-think your opinion Cork if you can sift through the pig manure for brains posting in your comments section out of a lack of life purpose and actually read this.

There were plenty of mistakes on both sides, and not to mention the coaching. You can’t pin it on one guy (*Hint Mistic), or the ZBS, or Al’s guys! Too many mistakes—plain and simple. Some of these guys fantasize about QB’s that don’t throw picks, O-lines that are perfect, corners that shutdown all day every sunday. It’s teams that overcome their mistakes and capitalize on the mistakes made by the other 53 men that wins in the NFL. I just don’t know why some people beat the dead horse week in and week out like it’s gonna change anything. Cry about it all you want—it’s meaningless. Palmer is our QB, and he’s our best option now.

if it’s about passer rating like mistic used to claim it was when comparing cp and jc cp>cam, cp>russell wilson, cp>michael vick
if it’s about turnovers like mistic says cp is then cp>michael vick, cp>russell wilson, cp>cam

With all due respects this is one of the dumbest things ever posted on this blog. And that is saying something.
I told you that Jason Campbell when he was here had a QB rating over 120 in select games. In those games our team ran for over 200 yards. When we weren’t rushing for over 200 yards Campbell was flat out terrible.
It was the exact same thing yesterday: Josh Freeman had a running attack that could not be stopped. You could have put ME back there and I could have completed some passes while Marting was running for almost 300 yards.
But what we did see was a Q, with no running game, down 3 scores, put a team on his back. And it’s not the first time. I’d like to see Freeman do that.

This is truly the tiniest IQ in all of this blog.
Maybe in the world.
We would have lost 35-10 yesterday without Palmer.
61 passing attempts, zero running game, receivers runnign wrong routes, getting hit as he’s throw all day, and ZERO rush defense on the other side of the ball to the tune of 6 TDs allowed, and you expect him to be perfect? I think I even saw Mistic say that the defense was tired since Palmer kept throwing the ball to the other team? What garbage, they had already given up 5 TDs before he made the 2nd INT which effectively ended the comeback. Then they promptly allowed Martin to go 35+ yards in 3 plays for his 4th TD to seal the deal. This is Carson’s fault? How about a little resistance. How about some run blocking and pass blocking? How about some balance? 61 freaking attempts?
Wow, what a small minded fool. Everyone, just ignore this guy. Its not worth your time or mine.

I was never a fan of the Palmer trade. Mainly his lack of escaping the pocket. Even when there are running lanes he is to slow.
He put up alot of numbers in cincy with nothing to show for it and he threw .. wait for it alot of INTS. Thats just palmer. He is a step above average qb and thorws alot of INTS. IT wouldnt matter if he had a great oline. THe guy likes to take chances and makes bad choices at times.
Palmer will never win anything significant for the Raiders which is it was joke for hue to trade for him. This team is in rebuild mode. No question about it. Next year might be worse b4 it gets better. TK , SEYMOUR, DMAC all gonna be gone. Wont be suprised if Palmer is gone too.

freeman > palmer and it isnt close
=========================================
I’d like to see Freeman do that.

thank you for making my point freeman did exactly what a good qb should do, he managed the game and was turn over free. he mnade plays when he had to and finished with a win.
palmer thrwew the game a way like drunken sailor throws a away a hooker ruined rubber. the game was that nasty
at this stage of the game freeman is a better player than palmer
palmer 3-5 13 tds 12 turn overs

True, shall we start a ignore Mistic list?

Lots of hot garbage to go around.
That was tough to watch.
It WAS fun watching Carson Bomber make it intersting though. Most Raider teams of the last 3 decades would have MAILED IT IN from about 33 mins into the game.
Now only if I had started CP3 instead of RGIII on my FF team….

every year people can complain about the QB class being “weak.”
When Cam came out, plenty questioned if he was a franchise QB, no one knew what they were getting with RGIII (hands are too small! – gimmick offense!), Rothelisberger was questioned because he came from a small school, Rivers had a funny throwing motion, Freeman lasted until the 2nd half of the round…
I don’t see a reason why Geno and Barkley can’t be as good as those guys. The tools and decision making are good enough right now.

Huff, Slowlando, Kelly, Branch….these guys simply do not care about winning…..they do not give 100%…..and our D is built around them….is it any wonder why our defense has been bad for years?
Seemed like character was a factor in Reggie’s first draft here…..I hope that continues, of course with higher round draft picks this time.
I see a guy like Burris struggle like he did yesterday, and I can shrug it off because I know he was picked about 121 picks in the draft after a guy like Slowlando McLazy, and I can tell he cares and is trying all of the time.

So basically we were screwed either way in 2006.

I thought Davis wanted Vernon Davis so took Huff as Shell’s pick once Davis was taken right before our selection. Either way, we ended up with a sub par safety. I was hoping for Whitner for one.

Uh no, not even close.
Hell the Golden State Warriors traded a 1st round pick for Marcus Williams, who scored like 50 points in 20 games before we released him.
I would argue that if Curry gets IR’s for this season, giving up a 5th round pick for 10 crappy games of OLB was a worse trade.
_____________________________________________________
Or the Kyle Boller trade (Mistic’s Boy) “Boller was selected by the Ravens with the 19th overall pick in the first round of the 2003 NFL Draft, via a trade with the New England Patriots(for 2003 #2 & 2004 #1).”
Cannot imagine even Mistic taking Kyle Boller over Carson Palmer and yet…
I call him Mistic’s Boy, because when everbody was complaining about Boller as the backup and getting rid of Grad, Mistic said Boller would be fine if Campbell went down. That was when he was in “lock step” with Hue.

Sure about this, JFB? As I remember it, we had the room and were under the cap, just barely. His contract freed up some additional room, which we never used. I could be wrong but that’s the way I remember it, because I argued that we didn’t need the room at that stage in the offseason since there was nobody to pick up. I was right in that we did nothing with the additional space.

Coach Dennis Allen told reporters Monday that Darren McFadden (high ankle sprain) has not been ruled out for Week 10 at Baltimore.
Per Allen, DMC was begging Sunday to reenter the game against the Bucs, but the medical staff apparently wouldn’t clear him to do so. The Raiders are desperate in the backfield, so we wouldn’t rule out them pushing McFadden to play, even if he’s not 100 percent. This could be another game-time-decision situation.

If you’re sitting at 4-2 or whatever record we had at the time JC went down, and you haven’t made the playoffs in 10 years , every body would trade for a good QB to give us a chance to make the playoffs for 2 picks in separate years

Not everyone. Just Hue.

So lets see , tell the other 52 players that our QB went down so we will give up on the season with 10 games to go because we don’t want to give up an unknown # 1 next year and unknown # 2 pick 2 years from now to try to make the playoffs, which is something we haven’t done in 10 years , but that # 1 pick will surely take us to the playoffs next year , Is that something he should have done?

It has not worked out because we’re still saddled with same problems from last year and 2 of our strengths from last year (Running game and Ol) have turned into weaknesses this year

But the Ravens have a crappy run D, so “D-Mac” is enough of a flash guy to go for 217 yards out of nowhere.

Ok, how about this…
Do you guys think it’s fair that Palmer gets all the rap in here for losing the game yesterday? Some people have an agenda against Palmer, which is fine, everyone is entitled to their own opinion! However, was it Palmer’s fault that JC went down and Boller was who we all knew he to be and get traded to the Raiders giving up the 2012 1st round pick and the conditional 2013 2nd rounder? In years past, I have never seen any quarter back from being down 18 and at least a shot! We came back against a pretty good Pitt team down 10! And for once, I do not see any quit in the team! Defense, it looked like they did yesterday, but not the offense!

I don’t remember Beech, must’a been a little twisty, been known to do that from time to time….

Take away one player getting hurt(Condo) and 2 bad INTs and we are sitting at 5-2. I can live with that considering we have no run game.
I think if we run by committee, we can still make the playoffs. McFadden is not worth giving every snap too. He is definitly not worth resigning.

I don’t condone profanity nor use it. But this is the most accurate and concise statement heretofore.

One of the glaring differences between our “D” and TB was that their open field tackling was far superior, in that they tackled everything below the waist, whereas we were playing some kinda’ touch/flag football defense. Player can’t move if your wrapped around their legs. Romac’s positioning at the attack on the line of scrimmage was absolutely awful, and please Reg don’t bring Routt back.
