Chiefs waive Routt; might Raiders be interested

By Steve Corkran
Monday, November 5th, 2012 at 11:50 am in Oakland Raiders.

The Kansas City Chiefs waived veteran cornerback Stanford Routt on Monday, eight games into a long-term contract Routt signed shortly after he was waived by the Raiders.
That begs the question, might the Raiders be interested in re-signing Routt?
Perhaps. We’ll ask coach Dennis Allen that question today during Allen’s weekly news conference. It’s unlikely the Raiders will put in a waiver claim on Routt, given they would be on the hook for a $10 million option bonus in 2013.
If a team claims a waived player, they inherit the player’s contract as it is structured. The way around the option bonus is to renegotiate the contract or accept it as is and deal with it when the time comes.
Given the Raiders get back cornerback Ron Bartell for this Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens and cornerback Shawntae Spencer is making progress in his recovery from a right foot injury, it’s less likely that the Raiders will bite on a player they waived during the offseason.
Still, don’t rule it out with the way the Raiders pass defense performed against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Routt was Oakland’s No. 1 cornerback last season, and he certainly is better than some of the cornerbacks currently on the 53-man roster.

    Watching Palmer throw 3 4th quarter TD’s and on his way to a 4th was pretty insane. There are very very very few Q’s in this league that can do that. By themselves. And Josh Freeman certainly is not one of them.

    I want to know from Mistic if Freeman would put up same stats if he was playing for the Raiders, we all know what his answer will be , but we can def share another laugh at his expense
    ============

    of course retreat into fantasy, becauyse your reality is too painful to cope with.

    Your hero threw away a very winnable home game against a middle of the road football team that tried to give him the game.

    he looked more like the 4th year player and was badly outplayed by his junior counter part.

    he talked big and fell flat on his face with a resounding thud, clearly audible in the coliseum which was silent after palmers horrific gradkowski like picks

    _______

    Remember FREEMAN last year? No running game, no WRs, and he was TERRIBLE.

    16 TDs, 22 INTs, 74 QB rating. with full training camp under his belt

    That’s Freeman last year with Bucs, or this year if he was on the Raiders.

  • alex7

    With the rules protecting QBs from getting even sneezed on,

    I think Palmer can play relatively well for another 3 seasons after this, and we can build the D through the draft and pass on a QB until about 2 years from now.

    thank you for making my point freeman did exactly what a good qb should do, he managed the game and was turn over free. he mnade plays when he had to and finished with a win.

    palmer thrwew the game a way like drunken sailor throws a away a hooker ruined rubber. the game was that nasty

    at this stage of the game freeman is a better player than palmer

    palmer 3-5 13 tds 12 turn overs

    freeman 4-4 16 tds and 10 turn overs

    lol didint you guys watch the game/

    i told you last week that freeman was a better qb and it proved out sunday as palmer tossed wild pick after wild wounded duck pick
    =================================

    So, what you are saying then is Doug Martins 250 yards and 4 scores in the second half didn’t matter?
    =============================
    The only way to definitively know whether Freeman is better than Palmer is to put him behind our O-line and play out the same sequence of events. That will never happen, so theoretically, you’re information means squat.

    To be fair, it looked like our D, in the second half was the 31st ranked pass d, hell total d in that matter! Our corners were getting burned, and then the run d just flat out collapsed!
    Freeman didn’t really do anything special! yeah, he didn’t turn it over because Hampster was running it all day long! Our D had to account for the run and the pass, where Palmer, had to pass! 2 Rbs out! WOW!
    When you are one dimensional, sorry to say, it is easier to defend! Freeman did not outplay Palmer! And he would never over come an a huge deficit! Well, maybe as he grows…maybe…but history suggests otherwise!

    Go from winning SB XVIII to hoping we win one within a few years of SB XLVIII?????

    I thought that Bo was gonna win one all on his own.

    Then I thought for sure Brown and Woodson were gonna hoist one once I recovered from the worst day of my Raider life.

    The last thing this organization needs to do is spend a first round pick on a QB in this majorly weak QB draft class.

    Maybe 2014, or a 2013 mid-round pick.

    Huff is a jack of all trades, master of none.

    every year people can complain about the QB class being “weak.”

    When Cam came out, plenty questioned if he was a franchise QB, no one knew what they were getting with RGIII (hands are too small! – gimmick offense!), Rothelisberger was questioned because he came from a small school, Rivers had a funny throwing motion, Freeman lasted until the 2nd half of the round…

    I don’t see a reason why Geno and Barkley can’t be as good as those guys. The tools and decision making are good enough right now.

    Uh no, not even close.

    Hell the Golden State Warriors traded a 1st round pick for Marcus Williams, who scored like 50 points in 20 games before we released him.

    I would argue that if Curry gets IR’s for this season, giving up a 5th round pick for 10 crappy games of OLB was a worse trade.

    If I remember correctly, Al was talked into Huff by Art Shell. Davis’s first choice was…Matt Leinart.

    So basically we were screwed either way in 2006.

    Huff, Slowlando, Kelly, Branch….these guys simply do not care about winning…..they do not give 100%…..and our D is built around them….is it any wonder why our defense has been bad for years?

    Seemed like character was a factor in Reggie’s first draft here…..I hope that continues, of course with higher round draft picks this time.

    I see a guy like Burris struggle like he did yesterday, and I can shrug it off because I know he was picked about 121 picks in the draft after a guy like Slowlando McLazy, and I can tell he cares and is trying all of the time.

    I’ll take guys like that over talented lazy slugs like Slowlando every time.
