McFadden, Goodson among four not practicing

By Steve Corkran
Wednesday, November 7th, 2012 at 11:57 am in Oakland Raiders.

As expected, running back Darren McFadden and Mike Goodson are not practicing today as they recover from high-ankle sprains suffered against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
We won’t have an update on the status of Oakland’s top two running backs until we get a chance to speak with coach Dennis Allen in about 90 minutes.
McFadden underwent X-rays and an MRI soon after his injury. Both returned negative. Goodson had an MRI on Monday. We won’t know the result of that test until we speak with Allen.
For now, the Raiders are making do with second-year back Taiwan Jones and fullback Marcel Reece. It’s conceivable that the Raiders will sign a free-agent back or sign rookie Jeremy Stewart from the practice squad if it reaches the point where McFadden and Goodson are ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens.
Allen said Monday that he hasn’t ruled out McFadden.

– Defensive lineman Desmond Bryant is back at practice today, two days after he was released from a local hospital after complaining of a fast, irregular heartbeat.
That bodes well for his availabilty for the Ravens game, given Allen said he didn’t expect Bryant back this soon.

– Defensive tackle Richard Seymour and cornerback Shawntae Spencer are not practicing today. Seymour has missed several practices in recent weeks, likely because of his chronic knee.
Spencer was slated to hit the field Tuesday as a means of gauging how far his recovery has progressed from a foot injury he suffered Sept. 16.
Allen should provide an update on how things went during Spencer’s workout when we convene with Allen.

– Linebacker Aaron Curry is practicing today for the first time this season as a member of Oakland’s 53-man roster. He was activated Tuesday.
Curry missed some of the offseason workouts, all of training camp and the first eight games while rehabilitating his sore knees.
It remains to be seen how the Raiders intend to use Curry the second half of the season. Best guess is, he will play some on special teams and be a situational player on defense as long as the three starters are healthy.
Curry also could give the Raiders the flexibility to use the 3-4 more than they did the first half of the season. He is versatile enough to play inside, alongside Rolando McClain, in the 3-4, with Miles Burris and Philip Wheeler on the outside.

– No further word yet on whether Allen intends to stick with Willie Smith at right offensive tackle, go back to original starter Khalif Barnes or try rookie Tony Bergstrom.
Barnes returned to practice today after missing most of the past two months with a groin injury that required surgery.
Certain things that take place at practice we aren’t allowed to report upon. Who is taking reps at right offensive tackle right now is one of thoes things.
So, we’ll have to wait and see what Allen says about what’s going on at practice right now.

Actually the article calls out Mike Vick and Russell Wilson for making their Oline look worse than they are. Nice try…

“Wilson not only leads the league in time to throw but also in average time to sack. That’s not going to help the Seahawks offensive line look better in much the same way as Alex Smith (second highest time to sack) and Michael Vick don’t help theirs.”

Mistic would never admit palmers O line is bad or his receivers cAnt run real routes hence the Ints happen , because he hates Palmer , now if Palmer was black ,everyone in here knows what Mistic would have talking about now

    ___________________________________________________

I think you will really like this McFadden…Sorry Mistic, don’t shoot the messanger. But it kinda makes some of your theories look really bad.

    https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2012/11/07/signature-stat-snapshot-time-to-throw/
    ===========

you guys love to try and put words i my mouth but the fact is a gave palmer most of the credit for negating the weak pass protection with the dink and dunk offense we employed over the first 5 weeks.

never have i said anything other than the pass protection has been spotty at best.

this does not change the fact that interceptions are the responsibility of the qb, and he would be better off taking sacks than forcing interceptions

    _____________________________________________________

WOW, did you you not state that M. Vick, Russell Wilson and Cam Newton had less time to throw the ball than Palmer did? No? That they would be better if they had the same type of protection that Palmer enjoys? No? I believed you when you stated that Cam Newton and Michael Vick had a worse OL than Palmer…Don’t shoot the messanger.
    =============

they do have a worse pass protection than palmer, they are able to extend time with their feet. this in essence can at time mask the deficiencies of the line.

much like how jc was able to do here, extend plays, now the line loks far worse as palmer is a staue and sitting duck.

the carolina and philly o lines are by far the worst in football, seattle has improved over the year, and may be about as good as what we have here, not very good overall

    KK, serious question:

When was the last time you felt “Good” about the Raiders? There had to be a time when you enjoyed watching them play, and were excited about it.

Raiders have been losing for a long fking time. Wtf am I supposed to feel good about?

It’s not that Brady, Brees, and Manning DON’T HAVE MUCH TIME TO THROW…

They simply make quick decisions and don’t NEED much time to throw. Ball is out in 2.5.

Meanwhile Vick is holding on to the ball eye-penetrating his #1 receiver for 4 seconds hoping he gets open. Then they blame his o-line.

you have to hold the ball when you are scrambling.

I dont know if you are aware but the but the mobile qbs extend the play and hold the ball because there is pressure in thoir face.

A more accurate break down would be to determine the time it takes from the snap of the ball to win the first defender penetrates the pocket. That would show a huge gap between the mobile qb ad the statue

brees bardy and manning have very clean pockets to work from and are able to survey the field. The others have a guy in thier face almost soon as the ball is snapped and have to find running and throwing lanes, that is why the ball is held.

bress brady and maning also dont have the luxury of mobilty and so they have to get the ball out fast or when the first defender invades the pocket they are toast

  • Mistic1 Tha Supavillain

mobility equals more time to throw, this does not mean that mobile guys have better line protection

If we reach 4-5, we are exactly where I thought we’d be after 10 weeks. And poised for a very conceivable late run.

But we MUST win this game. This is the last one we can say that about otherwise the season really is done.

Baltimore can be HAD Riff…They’ve had a few breaks roll thier way this year. They’ve been underachieving so far and they’re struggling.

As usual, its up to us.

We win the games were supposed to lose and we lose the games were supposed to win.

If know anything about this franchise its to expect the unexpected. We could win this game, not for any logical reason, but rather because no honest fan expects too win. And that is usually a good thing for us.

    2012 college watch list

    1.) tahj boyd 30 td 9 int.

the junior from clemson is having another very good season, i think though he still is a bit too streaky and has the tendency to force the miracle play. he will need to mature in that regard but ha can make every throw and is polished passer. At this stage he is a poor mans jeff garcia only much much more athletic.

    2.Ej manual 17 tds 4 ints

the senior signal caller has it all. he stands 6″5 he runs like the wind, he has an nfl ready throwing motion and he is a classic drop back passer when he stands in the pocket. His biggest asset is is toughness, he played the bowl game on a broken leg leading a fourth quarter come back win, and he is insanely athletic. With the right coaching and in a the right system this kid could be a fantastic nfl qb ( I HOPE THE RAIDERS DRAFT HIM). he is a winner a very hard worker and a phenomenal leader. He also plays in a pro style offense at fsu. i personally think he would be perfect in a wco spread hybrid offense like we have seen in a few other nfl cities over the last few seasons. the kid behind him jamioues winston will be fun to watch when ej departs.

    3)Logan thomas 19 tds 12 ints

Coming into this season the comparisons between he and cam newton were all over the place, i didnt buy them then i dont buy them now. this converted tight end has lots of work to do with reading defense and decision making. he isnt in cams class as a passer and i dont think he is the same kind of runner. right now i would compare him to tim tebow only tebow seems to be able to ove come mistakes and ugly passing and fnd ways to win, thomas doesnt seem to have that same ability.

    4.)geno smith wvu 30 tds 3 int

what can be said about geno that hasnt already been said, remove him from the wvu offense and that team is a bottom feeder. he is accurate extremely smart with the ball and is athletic. i would compare him most to jason campbell, a guy that can extend plays or pick up a 3rd and 7 with his feet, but more often than not scrambles to pass and at times is reluctant to run. he will fit into any offensive scheme and i thin whom ever drafts him will have one of the best in his class along with ej manual.

5.) teddy bridgewater lousiveille 19 tds 4 int

this is one of my absolute favorites he is just a sophomore and he reminds me most of rgIII. In terms of the way he throws the ball he is another example of how the game has changed playing in spread all his life means he is a passer first, and he shows it every Saturday. he will be another that gets to the nfl ready to pass and succeed from the pocket. like rgIII this kid was denied the opportunity to compete at qb by most schools he was recruited by, thank god for charlie strong. now he has a chance to play in january inn a major bowl, something that the cardinal could never experience with out him.

6.) Braxton miller ohio state 29 tds 6 int

this is perhaps the most athletic qb of the bunch, he is clutch tough and is a touchdown machine. braxton will need to improve his passing and be more judicious with the bal. he is a high wire act and if he can become more consistent passer he will be in the hies man conversation in the next two years. micheal vick at virginia tech is the closest comparison to miller

    7. brett hundly ucla 27 tds 8ints

this redshirt freshman is just flat out fun to watch. he is a very good passer and can also motor with huge size he is josh freeman only faster on his feet and a better passer as a collegiate.

    8. terrance owens toledo 18 tds 5 ints

this kid is probably the least heralded of the group but only because the school is so low profile.

owens has the size and the arm, he comes from a passing attack and would fit well into a tom brady spread or peyton manning type offense where you make line calls and audibles after pre sanp reads. he is fantastically athletic and is a step slower than randall cuningham but still very good.

    honorable mention

    Johhny manzeil teaxs a&m

another touch down scoring wizard. the kid finds a way to make plays when none are there. I dont think he has the nfl arm or he nfl size and that will hurt him, yet if he keeps making plays for his career like this season it will be hard for the nfll to keep him out

comparison tyrod taylor, troy smith minus the rocket arm
