CB Lee not with the Raiders in Baltimore

By Steve Corkran
Saturday, November 10th, 2012 at 12:15 am in Oakland Raiders.

Cornerback Pat Lee did not accompany the Raiders on their flight to Baltimore on Friday.
A team official confirmed that Lee was not on the flight. However, no transaction was performed Friday.
It’s logical to assume that the Raiders told Lee that his roster spot will be needed to free up room for cornerback Ron Bartell in his return from the injured-reserve list.
The Raiders can’t activate Bartell until Saturday, per league rules. So, we should know more later Saturday.
Lee entered the starting lineup in the second game in place of Bartell. However, coach Dennis Allen went with regular free safety Michael Huff at cornerback the next game, with Matt Giordano moving into the free safety spot and Lee into a backup role.
Bartell and Huff are expected to start at cornerback against the Ravens. If Lee isn’t on the team at that time, look for Philip Adams and Joselio Hanson to get the bulk of the reps whenever the Raiders are in their nickel and dime packages on obvious passing downs.

Man it’s quiet in here. Sort of peaceful at the moment. Where is Mr P/I? Need to tell him about the dinner party tonight I was a guest at on, you guessed it, BULLFROG Rd. Almost got out of my truck and took the street sign, but my wife wouldn’t let me. As long as the Froghorn is blowin, Bullfrogs will be growin.

    Nawleens still in reach.

I agree. It’s serene. That’s a shame Pat Lee is getting kicked to the curb. Did we IR Spencer?

  7. dr_robert Says:

so’oto for curry. lee for bartell. just one more to go if they’re gonna activate the PS RB.

  8. Raider4Life209 Says:

Perhaps with TJ’s knack for fumblitis, said PS RB is gonna be RB Plan B come Sunday.

  9. dr_robert Says:

the plan would have to be about 10 carries for reece and about 15 for jones. DA has to be really nervous about taiwan dropping the rock. and reece is a college WR. it would seem having another guy in case would be a good idea. stewart could be good for all we know. of course the ravens run defense is pretty weak and jones could go off. bringing up stewart means dumping another guy just so stewart is around for a few weeks. but i don’t think they can go 3-4 weeks with just reece and jones.

    good post and summation #9.

tho, with mcfadden/goodson likely out for the remainder of the season, stewart would be inevitable 53 man roster material…and they could always IR mcfadden and/or goodson, and not have to release another player.

It’s inevitable they’ll be out for 4-6 weeks, season over by then when they return, and will have to get back into football shape if they even did. Plus, if we end up being still in the playoff race in 4-6 weeks, it must mean Taiwan Reece and Stewart are playing very well so no need for McFadden/Goodson.

    Morning all………..Raiders #1!!!
Dr Bob…..I ain’t gonna say this but once!If you hear what they say then you are them!
Haven’t been able to get here since the game.Hope to christ no idiots have been ragging on CP3.I’ve been to
so many NFL games…but it takes me back To the ATL with Moon,Jones and Deion…..10 on the line and QB in the backfield.I had a great spot and what a comeback…
Awesome game…Sat next to the young RB’s extended
family…(love their support for the kid but the uni’s
blow and they gotta lose those orange towel things)
My respect for CP3 Grows each game I see…We have very little talent anywhere but we are set at QB.

  17. dr_robert Says:

Why aren’t idiots like fangraiders banned for life? no place for that trash here or anywhere for that matter. if you are so mad that your boy romney lost that you respond like this, you need to find another country that will tolerate your rac1st a55. (likely you’ll need a time machine to go back to naz1 genrmany.)

hey this IS america and that’s why he can do it. i find him comical. like george the animal steele. just a big dumb animal.

  20. tuckrulefool Says:

as for football…this game doesn’t scare me as much as ATL or PITT game did interestingly enough.

I will also admit that a small part of me secretly is excited about seeing tawian back there with reece as a integral (not sideshow) part of the offense.

Im also happy to see bryant in there vs overpaid counting days til his next payday seymour. sorry im ready/happy to SEE LESS at this point… 15M? please… give guys like bryant and cristo more snaps and we are BETTER is my guess.

Now if reece gets hurt or we see the ugly side if TJ (losin the rock) then yeah this could go swirly toilet bowl pretty quick…

That said I’m cautiously optimistic about sunday.

And nation, IF we pull this out I think the next two games get far less scary (vs NO and at Cinn). This season aint over yet. If we can just lunch pail it through the next 3 games (and get back to 5-6) we are right back in it. A Den stinker or two thrown in wouldnt hurt…(I have no worries about SD whatsoever.)

I agree. Notice how once Bryant left with his heart issues and the D-Line rotation thinned, the Bucs offense took off.

  22. Just Fire Baby Says:

Wow, that is kind of strange.

Although, the Ravens aren’t necessarily deep at WR, so needing a ton of CB’s may not be a necessity.

  23. Just Fire Baby Says:

As far as the convo on the previous thread on Pryor.

First off, the absolute best thing for this organization would be for Pryor to emerge as a quality NFL QB. He was a 3rd round pick, doesn’t make a bunch of money, if he could be the starting QB in 2013 and 2014 at his rookie contract, he would be one of the lowest paid QB’s in the NFL, and help us develop the rest of the team.

Almost always, developing a QB in house works massively better than a FA/trade situation.

I just don’t see it, or at least happening that soon. My prediction has always been they will go into 2014 (his last year on his deal) having no clue what they have, even after him getting some reps here and there.

I think people get way too caught up in the running QB as a skill. Heard Gruden talking about it this week with Vick.

He described how Vick will escape the edge rush, round out the edge towards the sidelines and outrun everyone to the sidelines for 12 yards. People will say “no other QB makes that play” which is true.

But Gruden made an interesting point, it was on Mike and Mike before the MNF game, that half the league would step up in the pocket and just complete a 12 yard pass (or more). QB’s running don’t get huge chunks of yards like a 10 yard pass to a WR who breaks a tackle and gets 50 yards.

Running QB’s stunt offenses, and reduce big plays.

  24. Albert Bigelow Paine Says:

There are rumors that Marty Schottenheimer might return to the Chiefs.

  25. Plunketthead Says:

    Good stuff out there today.
Gruden is getting his staff ready. Most think its the NFL. Philly or Dallas?

Maybe its USC. Kiffin is about to be fired. He is getting torn up in the press

Heres a Taiwan animation of him cheating thats pretty dam funny
    http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/blog/eye-on-college-football/20903342/video-lane-kiffin-jokes-are-now-a-global-sensation

  26. Plunketthead Says:

Long article that rips lana a new one. I only posted some of ithttp://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/story/20903374/there-he-goes-again-kiffin-up-to-same-tired-shenanigans-at-usc

He’s doing it again. Lane Kiffin, I mean. He’s acting like Lane Kiffin, when he promised a few months ago that he was done doing that — and ready to act like an adult.

But, no. He’s the same Lane Kiffin he was at Tennessee, maybe worse, because at Tennessee he was a rambunctious kid still finding his way, knocking over tables and lamps but only because he was a big goofball who didn’t seem to know better — whereas now, at Southern California, he’s flipping over furniture and rewiring the lamps in a misguided attempt to keep the rest of us in the dark.

He’s cheating, is my point. Or his program is. And since the chain of command at USC football starts with Lane Kiffin, he’s responsible. He’s using ignorance as his defense on some of this stuff, but that’s a life raft that won’t float on these seas.

    This is what he did:

Before the Trojans played Oregon on Saturday, a USC student-manager deflated the footballs to be used in the game — a modification that makes it easier for a quarterback to throw. The Trojans’ only shot at keeping up with Oregon’s prolific (and mostly rushing-oriented) offense was by passing, and sure enough USC quarterback Matt Barkley threw for 484 yards and five touchdowns. His numbers were even crazier in the first half, before game officials fixed all the balls: 303 yards and three touchdowns.

The Pac-12 reprimanded and fined USC, but the school — Kiffin, really, since this is his program — is acting like the football deflation was the act of a rogue student-manager.

Kind of like at California two years ago, when Cal players were flopping like fish to slow down Oregon’s offense. Cal blamed the tactic on a rogue assistant coach — not head coach Jeff Tedford, who claimed to know nothing about it.

But enough about that responsibility-shirking coach, and back to this one. To Kiffin, who keeps doing this stuff after assuring the world — and assuring me, in particular — that he was a changed man. Hell, more than that, he assured the world (and me) that his clumsiness at Tennessee was calculated, that it was intentional buffoonery designed to keep Tennessee in the headlines and therefore on the minds of recruits nationwide.

  27. Just Fire Baby Says:

If only Sarkisian would have took the job with us in 2007, we would have never heard of Kiffin

  28. Plunketthead Says:

I take that back. The video is not funny its stupid.
They are usually good. But the kiff article is great. Here is the rest of it

At a recruiting powerhouse like Southern California, Kiffin told me in July, he wouldn’t need such silliness. As for the Lane Kiffin we knew and disliked at Tennessee in 2009? Even Lane Kiffin disliked that guy.

“I was an idiot,” he said. “If I’m an athletics director or a general manager [in 2009], I’m thinking, ‘What is that idiot doing?’ I wouldn’t want anything to do with that guy.”

That’s what he told me in July, and I fell for it. Gobbled it up like a grouper on grunt-fish. Decided, did I, that while I didn’t like Tennessee Lane Kiffin, USC Lane Kiffin was different. Different program, different circumstances, different guy. That was his story, and I stuck to it.

And stuck to it. And stuck to it …

In August, Kiffin lied about voting his team No. 1 in the coaches poll, and then he stopped visiting teams from making their customary Coliseum walk-thru the day before a game. In September he tried to ban a reporter from attending games because that reporter wrote (accurately) about an injured USC player. One week later Kiffin petulantly stormed off 29 seconds into a press conference because he didn’t like a question.

Not a peep out of me. Even when Kiffin had a player change jersey numbers against Colorado — and then used that player on a trick play — I let it go. Shame on me for that, by the way.

But I was serious about giving this Lane Kiffin, USC Lane, a chance.

No more. Enough’s enough. Lane Kiffin is the same guy he was at Tennessee, only worse, because he isn’t just saying stupid stuff. At Tennessee he was a buffoon, but now he’s a bad guy. Changing jersey numbers against Colorado was technically a gray-area move by Kiffin, one that might not have broken a specific rule in the NCAA rulebook — but is cited as the first example in a section of the NCAA rulebook called “Coaching Ethics:”

    The following are unethical practices:

    A. “Changing numbers during the game to deceive the opponent.”

    Black and white, right there.

Now, this. The deflated football. Again, Kiffin’s story is that the footballs were deflated by a student-manager, unbeknownst to Kiffin or anyone on his staff. What kind of coach would be so finicky and so unethical as to let a small amount of air out of the football?

Probably the kind who would be so finicky, and so unethical, as to have a player change jersey numbers for an easy two points against outmatched Colorado.

Lane Kiffin hasn’t changed a bit from his days at Tennessee. Well, wait. Yes he has.

    Lane Kiffin is worse.

  29. Albert Bigelow Paine Says:

Kiffin, the future head coach of the L.A. Chargers.

  30. Plunketthead Says:

    Marty is too old imo

Chip Kelly will have a hard time in the NFL. His “nohuddle” requires a different type of ball player and he will only have 53? on the team. Cant draft like you can recruit.

Gruden will probaly go to D or Philly. He would fit in Philly. Those fans would love his act as long as he can win.

  31. Plunketthead Says:

    ABP
Lana may have to swallow her pride and accept something other then head coach unless there is a real hard up college team. Come to think of it theres always those but he wont get a high profile gig.

And he may never coach in the NFL again unless he starts at the very bottom

  34. tuckrulefool Says:

    Ok…back to raiders here….

I have seen 6 of the Ravens games. They struggle mightily if you make them one dimensional. If we can revert back to our Atl, SD, Pitt Run D I think they are in trouble, esp with Curry (depth, ST), Bartell (upgrade at CB) and better interior D-line play (SEE LESS out) this week. This of course assumes we run a bit better than we have (tough not to do) and we look reasonably close to we did on O last week in the pass game.

I don’t care if the game is in Baltimore.

Oh and BTW, tomorrow’s weather? SUNNY CALM AND 68F!

  35. Plunketthead Says:

    LOL

It is going to be about half that in the ABQ

  37. Just Fire Baby Says:

The Ravens run the ZBS, and run it fairly well.

It will be a good snapshot of what we will look like in a year or two with Knapp’s offense and some actual talent on the O-line.

  38. exlaraiderseasonticketholder Says:

A point about the firing of Mike Brown by the Lakers. What is missing in the press was that Jerry Buss fired Brown, not his son Jim. Daddy told son that enough was enough and he was the owner not Jim. That’s why the press reports called Jim Buss the Executive V.P.

  39. BlackSunday Says:

Seymour has just plain given up , so now he’s not even gonna dress for the games anymore. Love Tawian’s speed but just assuming at his weight and age he can’t pass block. Hopefully rest of the D shows some heart and we win with a Jano boom!

    GO RAIDERS!!!!!!

  40. arkraider Says:

One point in the back and forth about whether TP should be activated or not that I believe gets overlooked is the fact that he is the #3 QB and not #2. Some say we should have packages for him like SF has for Kappernick. Problem is, is that Kapernick is #2 while Pryor is #3.
Most teams don’t activate 3 QBs for a game because that would take away from needed replacements in other areas.

I would love to see what TP could bring to the games but since he was not able to beat out Lienert for #2 I don’t see that happening very soon.

I would love to see TP out there but it’s a matter of game day roster logistics, we are simply not deep enough to swap him out with a much needed back up on game day.

Got nothing but love for TP but until he can become #2 QB we won’t be seeing him on game day. A shame but a reality. And one that many seem to overlook.

    Go Raiders! Code Black!!!!!

  41. arkraider Says:

Yes, Code Black is in effect!
I know some say it’s an old motto and we need something new. But the last two mottos proposed since have been “Put Your Pants” and “10 and Then” which have not gone over very well!
So until we have a better one, I say…..

    Code Black!!!!!!

  42. Albert Bigelow Paine Says:

I know the Baltimore defense isn’t as good as it once was. But, if there was any game this year that Palmer might get killed it is this one. I won’t be surprised if we see Leinart come into this game.

  43. arkraider Says:

only overshadowed by his QB and the kid running all over the place for TB.157 yards without being touched.
    Outstanding!!!He’s quite a talent.He’s also quite small
and he hit between the two tackles and just ducked then bolted.Seymour and Kelly were too tall!!!Sitting near his family and friends was like watching a gospel choir only with ugly uni’s and orange towels that had
to be waved overhead every time the kid did something.
The second half just about killed em but they finished

the third quarter????CP3 showed em what an NFL QB is!
On the pick where he should have taken the sack….he
hit D.Moore right on the numbers of his jersey…the back of his jersey!!!!Moore was clueless as to his
QB’s predicament and CP3 takes it on the nose for the

    Interview with Knapple

On missing RBs Darren McFadden and Mike Goodson: “It’s a little bit of a balancing deal. They’re going to work on their situation too, where they’re trying to work on their run-game. I’m anticipating that they maybe put a few guys in the box there to help stop the run. We’ll play to the strength of the backs that we’re going to use. Hopefully Darren and [Goodson] can make it back, but if not then we have a second plan ready to go.”

On what has held Taiwan Jones back: “It has been ball-security and assignments. Part of his assignment issues have been from lack of reps because of his injuries. You miss out on opportunities due to lack of reps. I’m excited for the young kid. I hope he gets a chance to get in there and have some confidence and get some successful plays to build his confidence. He’s flashed at times, as you guys know since you’ve been here, that he can make some plays. We’re looking for more consistency. Hopefully he’s had a chance to get some good reps this week and it will carry over to the game if he ends up being used in the backfield.”

  67. Plunketthead Says:

On whether Jones is the fastest back Knapp has ever been around: “Yeah, in pure speed it’s one of the fastest I’ve been around because he has that ability to burst and separate right away. That trait, obviously, is not coachable. He does have that ability to separate really fast, which is a unique quality to have.”

On what he sees from Marcel Reece as a running back: “Part of my experience with Marcel goes back to when I was here in his first year. What was it ’08 when he was first here? We didn’t know where to put him. We moved him around a little bit and played him at back a little bit, then we had him at tight end, and had him at receiver. We studied him coming out of college and he had carried the ball a little bit. So I’ve got a little more familiarity with him and his background, although he hasn’t done as much in the NFL. I have complete confidence in him. He had to play last week, a quarter and a half, at the one back spot for us, and he did a fine job. I’m very confident. He doesn’t have the intangibles of a Darren McFadden but he does bring some good qualities in his own right to carry the ball.”

I will do the blogpimps work for him

Sorry about the double post. I have a long ways to make the rank of blogpim

On his impressions of the Baltimore defense: “There’s no doubt that it’s awfully tough to play that defense and awfully tough to play them there. Their 14-game win streak speaks for itself. Up front, having [LB Terrell] Suggs come back helps them a lot in the edge pass rushing. They’ve got the two big guys inside that really do a decent job of stuffing the run. Fortunately for us we’re not going to be facing [Lardarius] Webb at corner, because he’s a talented, talented corner. I know the two safeties pretty well; obviously we were at Houston last year and played them twice. [Bernard] Pollard and Ed Reed are outstanding safeties. Ed’s one of the best at studying pass concepts. Our quarterback will be very challenged knowing that he’s reading the concept and your eyes; make sure he doesn’t follow your eyes to the first throw. They do a great job of taking some chances and making turnovers. That’s how they’ve made their hay this year. They haven’t been so good in yardage but they’ve been really good in takeaways. In fact, I think on third downs they lead the NFL on takeaways on third downs.”

On Palmer’s interceptions in the 4th quarter: “Both were protection-driven decisions for the quarterback, where he got rid of the ball sooner than he wanted to. He had to. One of the decisions was a bad decision by the quarterback. The other decision, I’d put on myself. That last interception, I wished I would have called another play. I put him in a bad situation. It was a 7-step scheme, where maybe we would have been better off using a 3 or a 5-step scheme. We had done really good up to that point in that concept, so I wish I had a better call for him in that situation. If we give Carson good protection, he’s going to be fine. He’ll make the progression read.”

On whether there was an issue between Palmer and the receivers: “There was one, the first one, on the timing of it and part of the no-huddle deal. We’ve done so well in no-huddle, that the good has far outweighed the one mistake there. It’s a distinct advantage for us to use that.”

  70. Twinkle Says:

oh I believe you forgot to mention that part.
    I’ll wait breathlessly as usual.

  71. Plunketthead Says:

On accounting for the eight straight games of scoring in the last two minutes of the half: “I think it’s just one of those years where it’s happened that way for us. It’s a unique deal. The argument could be said, ‘why don’t you just go 2-minute the whole day?’ but you can’t. You put too much stress on the O-Line to go 2-minute hustle up the whole game. Defenses will plan for that, so that’s why you have to have balance. I’ll give attributes where it’s deserved, and really it’s Carson. He does a great job in a 2-minute drive consistently. Guys have made particular plays in that situation. It’s been a variety of guys. Last week’s touchdowns were [WR Rod] Streater and Brandon Myers catching a ball and getting on the cone there, Marcel on the edge. It’s a unique deal that we’ve been able to do in the first eight games and it’s kind of one of those quirks for this season, that we’ve done well in the two-minute drives.”

On WR Juron Criner’s catch for the two-point conversion: “We’re trying to find a role for him because he’s gotten a better understanding of the offense. He’s done a better job in practice helping out on special teams along with the team so we can get him activated. We’re trying to find ways to create his ability to do what he did and that’s go up and make a play on the ball. He has that trait, as I mentioned before, where I talk about winning a 50/50 throw. That showed up in the two point play. It was between him and another defender. After Carson made a miraculous job of avoiding a hit, Criner went up and made that 50/50 catch out of nowhere.”

  72. tuckrulefool Says:

wow…nobody in the cupboard and K-Nap STILL not sure if TJ even plays??

“if he ends up being used in the backfield.”

Boy that comment alone should really help his confidence (not)….

  73. Plunketthead Says:

    Thats at Raiders.com with video

On his impressions of OL Tony Bergstrom this year: “He’s about the normal pace for an O-Lineman because we’ve really put him in a situation where he’s had to learn not just one position. As you well know, we only suit up seven, as most teams do in the NFL on game day, so he’s got to learn both guard and tackle and both sides. For a young lineman, he’s done a fine job mastering the techniques for both guard and tackle. He still needs the game experience to go through but he’s done well in practice this week for us at right tackle.”

On the Ravens giving up yards on the ground this year: “I can’t explain it. I’ll let them explain it because they’ve been so strong for so long there. I think they’ve averaged less than four yards-per-carry since 1998. They’ve been very good. Tough year for them right now and there is still plenty of time for them to fix it and I hope they don’t fix it on our watch.”

  74. Twinkle Says:

  79. Whats a Drexl? Says:

B-more riding coming into this game riding a 9-0 record at home.

This could get out of hand very fast,,, or (big or) Jones has his breakout performance on a depleted B-more run defense.
    plus
Moore will have to drop less balls, do a better job of route execution across the middle, and the Raids could win this thing.

The Raids will definably need to put up a butt load of points to come away with the win.

  80. Plunketthead Says:

The stuff about Tony seems odd.
How many rookies are expected to learn RT,LT,RG,LG?

Maybe because he is 26, they expect bigger things out of him.

TP and CP went to the Childrens hospital. Pics at site. Video interviews with Steater and Wheeler and Palmer

On whether he anticipates throwing more with two injured running backs: “Yeah, I mean you’ve got to adjust to what your health is of your team. It’s a team that’s had some yards rushing on them, especially in the last couple of weeks. You look back and look at some of the game film, like the Kansas City game and just a handful of games where teams were able to run the ball on them, which is very odd. I’ve never seen that before in my career. So, there are some things we want to take advantage of in the run game, but you can’t be one-dimensional at the same time and just go in and throw it. We’ve got to figure out a way to get Darren [McFadden] back as quickly as possible and have a selective, or maybe limited, game plan for him or Marcel [Reece], or whoever’s going to be back there.”

On if Raiders success in last two minutes of the first half makes sense: “No, it doesn’t [make sense]. I don’t have an answer for you on that. When we’re in two-minute mode, we’ve always felt, because we’ve played poorly in the first half, that we have to score on this drive. It’s kind of go-big-or-go-home. You’ve got to score. We’ve done a good job of scoring, but we’ve got to continue to get better before that two-minute mark.”

On Brandon Myers’ contributions to the passing game: “He’s just always in the right spot at the right time. He works extremely hard and understands the game. He’s a very smart football player. He understands the offense, understands his role, and knows how to get himself open. He’s extremely reliable in the run game, in the pass-protection game, setting up routes, and finishing a catch and getting into the end zone like he did last week. He’s extremely reliable and has created some mismatches over the middle against linebackers.”

  81. morilla Says:

This is one of those games. One of those games where people say ” Yeah Dmac, Goodson AND Seymour are out. They are toast.”

Once in a while when situations like this happen, the backups come out and explode. Flip a coin.

  82. Plunketthead Says:

On 20 of Myers’ 39 catches occurring in the fourth quarter: “I have a ton of trust in Brandon. We throw the ball probably a lot more in the fourth quarter than we have in other quarters because we always come out and try to establish the run. He’s a playmaker; he’s a guy that makes plays. You know when the ball is in the air that he’s either going to go up and get it or knock it down. He has done a good job of that.”

On impressions of Raiders RB Taiwan Jones: “I feel like I’ve been waiting forever; I can’t wait. He does amazing things in practice, and he’s by far the fastest person on the field. He will be the fastest person on the field on Sunday. It’s not that you want to see guys get banged up, but I’m excited about the opportunity he’s getting. I feel like since I’ve been here I’ve been waiting for him to get his opportunity and just hasn’t worked out and now here it is. He’ll get his touches, and I can’t wait. He’s so electrifying. He puts his foot in the ground and goes. He wiggles out of hits, he wiggles out of tackles. I can’t wait to throw him the ball and get him into the open field. He’s so much fun to watch in practice. Like I said, it’s been a long time coming.”

On Marcel Reece’s recent involvement: “Marcel, it’s great to see him. He had some big catches, big plays in the game at pivotal moments in the game. That’s just the type of guy he is. His number doesn’t get called because of the position he plays. It would be easier if he was a little bit bigger and he could play tight end, or if he was a little bit smaller and could play receiver. He’s kind of that ‘tweener’ guy and he’s so hard to put at a spot where he can get more balls. Being a fullback, you’re just not going to get that many opportunities. He makes the most of them, and makes play after play. He’s going to have plenty of opportunities this week.”

On reason behind miscommunication that lead to interceptions: “On the second one we were just on two different pages. It was bad communication on my part. The first one was just a good job by the defense making the play to get in the backfield. I should have just taken the sack and not tried to get rid of it. The third one was a bad play, period.

On if he’ll ever blame the receivers: “No, when you’re the quarterback you’re the one with the ball in your hand. You’ve got to make the right decision and make sure you’re on the right page with everybody.”

On fixing the miscommunication: “We’ve spent a lot of time watching it on film; we’ve talked about it a lot. We’ve gone over everything. Bad things are going to happen. Games are won and lost on interceptions, fumbles, missed tackles, or whatever you want to call it. We’re doing everything we can to make sure that it doesn’t happen again. We’ve got a young group, and a hungry group, and guys that want to be in the right place at the right time, and want to make big plays for us. We’ll continue to work and get better each week.”

On the team’s ability to fight back: “We’ve got a team that believes, that doesn’t want to just quit. A lot of times you’ll see that in the NFL, especially as the season goes on. You get up on a team and you can kind of sense that. We don’t have any of that in this group. We’ve got a bunch of guys with big hearts that don’t have any quit in them.”

  85. Plunketthead Says:

Will the ravens stack the box as teams have done in the past on us?

Heck no. If anything they will play it safe. Thats why I predict the running game will go off finally. Teams will HAVE to start game planning CP3 instead of DMAC
Reese and TJ will go off or I will eat a cactus

  86. stablersbeard Says:

    Good morning….
My biggest hope this weekend is that TJ’s habit of putting the ball on the ground is only a fluke due to the small sample size. I know the guy is scary fast, but it seems like he goes down way too easy. Memory is weird, but it seems like he’s either losing the ball or going to the ground at first contact every time he gets a touch.
Hoping for a big game from the young man.
DMac is not the same as he was last year. Seems to be running scared. He does the gopher dive into the ground way too often.

    painfully obvious…breakable!

  91. stablersbeard Says:

Oh… Messing with the offensive line was a huge mistake this year. Pollack was a big mistake.
The combination of Knapp and Pollack set this squad back at least a year.
I don’t mention Knapp because that move was an obvious mistake when it was announced. The guy has no business at all being employed by an NFL franchise. His last stint here should have been enough to exclude him from any future employment.
It’s obvious the Steve W. left because he absolutely didn’t want to be associated with what has been a complete downgrade of the offensive unit.

I’m kind of an optimist. I’m hoping that it’s a case of an otherwise talented rookie head coach making the mistake of going with a guy he’s familiar with. And that Reggie made the mistake of letting out too much leash with the rookie head coach.

Yeah, OK. So this is something you can learn from? I am by no means a knapp nutt hugger, but com’on. Can he figure it out already? Good coaches have a ‘feel’ for the game and know the ‘flow’. Why doesn’t knapp just turn it over to Palmer and leave him alone. I also thought at that point in the game Palmers arm was low on fuel so a quick three step woulda been more appropiate. Especially when TB was giving us everything underneath. Be interesting to see what the game plan will be against the Ravens. Can we learn from the past and game plan with what we have? We shall see.

Palmer is the leader of an apprenticeship program. If it wasn’t for him, we’d be 0-8 and the losses would be beyond ugly. Can you imagine how good we’d be if he had a o-line and a decent run game (power and gap to fit McFadden). Until this team reaches journeyman level status, Palmer will have to go beyond the limits to pull out wins. He’s done an incredible job in spite of knapp and the ZBS. It’s also to bad the ZBS finally beat McFadden down. DHB is turning into a baller. Real happy for him.

Let’s bury the Matt Barkley inferences forever. He reminds me of Brady Quinn. Enough said.

With all the talent the University of Spoiled Children have they can’t do any better than three losses in the conference? I usually never root for Notre Dame but can’t wait until UCLA & then ND just shread USC.

Aaron Curry could be the emotional spark the Raiders need to shake them out of the doldrums of last week’s debacle. BTW; I was there. Great weather, got to go th San Francisco to celebrate my beloved Giants success, hit Chinatown & Bezerkeley, then come the second half of the Tampa Bay game & the horrific defensive effort. Martin (the weightlifting hamster) is a good player but the Raiders defense (see Romac) made him look better than he is.

The Raiders offense needs a spark to get them going. I hope Taiwan Jones can provide that but with his ball handling woes I really can’t see that happening. If Gordon is back perhaps he lines up as fullback for Marcel Reese. Remember, this isn’t your dad’s Raven deense. Injuries on the D-line (Haloti Ngata), Mike LB (Ray Ray), & ladarius Webb in the secondary. Smith, the other cb has injury woes of his own. d. Moore has to motivate himself in the aftermath of last week’s atrocious effort & reassert himself as the Raiders go to WR.

Hey, Twinkle…. My father spent a bit of time in New Zealand in the 40s.
He was in the Marine Corps, and there was a little fracas going on in that area.
He loved the place. Always talked about how wonderful the people were.
    *********************************************
The 4th and 5th MC (no longer in existence) were a beloved part of my country’s history…..probably
more beloved by the NZ woman than the men.NZ suffered
more losses per head of population than any other
country but Russia in WW2 but none the less we have
fond memories (and probably many relatives) of the 4th
and 5th Marine Corps before they were ordered to
extinction attacking islands that could have been
sieged without the loss of a single man.As far as a young mans dream……an island full of nothing but
woman….damn.Glad your old man made it out alive.
    ————

The Bataan Death march…another untold atrocity by the Japanese…who the Americans allowed to escape the punishment for some of the upper level officers that ordered killings – not just the aussies, but filipinos, malay, several others. There was a film about it in the 80s – it was titled Prisoners of the Sun the number of Australian POWs on the island of Ambon had dropped from 1100 to less than 300 due to abuses by their Japanese …

  132. stablersbeard Says:

And Twinkle.. I know from my history that ANZAC troops paid a horrific price in that war. Warriors from New Zealand would be wonderful allies to anyone lucky enough to have their friendship.

occasionally see Al on the field talking to groundskeepers or coreographers or media.I was there
to see Guy or Jaeger and so on.Reggie was out there
at the 50 on Sunday doing the same thing…..only wore
a suit and people came up to him.Al wore sweat pants
and a Raider jacket and wandered around and was gone.
Then came the organized stretching…WTF?Thats what
other teams do.Can’t really explain it other than
    it just felt wrong.

I’m kind of an optimist. I’m hoping that it’s a case of an otherwise talented rookie head coach making the mistake of going with a guy he’s familiar with. And that Reggie made the mistake of letting out too much leash with the rookie head coach.
I’m not ready to throw in the towel on either of them yet.
If they don’t make the obviously needed changes going forward, my opinion will change.

    =====

Glad to see this sort of levelheadedness still exists. Coming into this season, look what was stacked against the team:
    - First season minus the owner that defined the team for decades
    - Rookie GM, learning on the job what that job is
    - Rookie HC, with even minimal coordinator experience, and having a huge learning curve
    - Rookie DC, not even coming directly from an NFL job
    - Hosed salary cap and contract situations, causing the team to lose people it would have wanted to keep and keep some that they’d prefer not to at high costs
    - No draft picks in the top 4 rounds to start the rebuilding process

That’s a seriously stacked deck! Really, looking back then what were realistic expectations? 2 wins, maybe 3? For me, at that point (and still today) I would gladly trade a horrible, 2 win season in order to make this team better for years to come. What does one year buy?

    - All of those rookies at GM and coaching positions get that critical first year under their belt. That’s the year when they will make a majority of their worst mistakes as they learn.
    - Fixing some of the most egregious issues with the cap from 2013 forward, at the expense of front loading into 2012.
    - An establishment of the new team identity after the years AD (after Al’s passing)
    - The start of the era of Reggie’s guys making a name for themselves on the roster, like Burris, Briesl and Streater
    - They found themselves a legitimate top 10 capable QB in today’s pass first era that should have a few more years left in him to build around (assuming they can fix his contract for the next few years)

So in my mind, this team is already outperforming where my 2012 expectations were, sitting on 3 wins halfway through the season. If they pick up a few more before it’s over, that’s gravy in my book.

The problem is, with the last decade of frustration, a lot of Raider fans have little patience left. Once they saw potential this year, expectations shot way up again. I say that was fairly unrealistic considering all of the rebuilding going on, but it is what it is.

For me, I’m going to continue enjoying watching the development of the team and not be overly concerned with wins and losses for the rest of the season. I’ll celebrate the progress where it is made and blog helplessly about what I think needs to change over time. That’s how I choose to spend my fan currency.

  204. Priesttj12 Says:

Here’s my take on 2morrow’s game.We have the perfect mixture in terms of HB’s at our disposal it just comes down to playcalling. In Reece you have a very versatile bigback, NO he’s not your hammer per se but he is tough to get down and can take the pounding. He has great hands and is OK blocker basically you have what we gave away in Bush. Then you have the quintessential scatback in TJ you can’t ask for a better mix. It just comes down to playcalling how do you attack their defense with these two very versatile and talented backs.

I would use them very similar to the way Flores used Marcus and Bo with a meathead to help in shortyardage. Great coaches would get mismatches all over the field with these two. Because with both in the backfield you cannot focus on one and both are great vision runners. It is not Bush and DMC but it’s close and if they can’t get these guys to be productive even highly productive it tells you all you need to know.

At some point David Ausberry needs to be integrated into this offense I don’t care HOW they do it just do it. His run after catch ability is sorely needed. I’m not saying start him I’m saying play him. The same is true with the possesion rec’s in the redzone Criner showed you what he is now USE HIM smartly.

You have a QB capable of doing some special things if you give him the environment to do it in. You know he does have that penchant for the pick so as a playcaller you HELP HIM.

On defense I said early this year when the defense looked stable and improving taht if they are fo-real this offense had the ability to catch up and make this a very good team. Well I’ll give them a pass on last week. But they have got to get back to business and TACKLE…………period

If they do the Raiders can win this game if they don’t they have no chance……….period

Priesttj12….as much as I respect your opinion I just do not envision a very large WR with the softest hands I
have ever seen have the instinct at the LOS to avoid the
catastrophe that awaits those don’t have it.His blocking
at the LOS is nowhere near the level it is down field on
DB’s and LB’s……course we have our best wideout at
FB for some reason.Tampa’s Dline was very very big fast
and effective and our Oline did great holding em for as long as they did.We did have 10 at the line most of the second half and our WR’s were running routes while our QB was trying his best to keep a play alive instead of turning back to help.
Somehow I think Tom had a little more to work with in
    Bo,Marcus,Steve Smith,Eric Dickerson et al.
