Grading the Raiders from Ravens game

Here is how beat writer Jerry McDonald graded the Raiders (3-6) on their performance in a 55-20 loss to the Baltimore Ravens (7-2) on Sunday:

Pass offense

Another prolific stat game for Carson Palmer (29 of 45, 368 yards, 2 TDs). He had a 55-yard touchdown pass to Darrius Heyward-Bey and one of 30 yards to Denarius Moore, and he kept the Raiders moving the ball. But there was also an interception, a lost fumble and another fourth-and-1 where he got stepped on by Mike Brisiel and took a 4-yard sack.

Grade: B

Run offense

Marcel Reece rushed a career-high 13 times for 48 yards, with Darren McFadden and Mike Goodson out with high-ankle sprains. Rookie Jeremy Stewart ran seven times for 22 yards, and the coaching staff has very little confidence in Taiwan Jones. Raiders had no gain of more than 9 yards and averaged 3 yards per carry.

Grade: D-minus

Pass defense

Joe Flacco (21 of 33, 341 yards, 3 TDs, 1 interception) did as he pleased and found the wide open spaces between the hash marks. Michael Huff had an interception at the Baltimore 19, but the offense only got a field goal out of it. Torrey Smith caught touchdown passes of 20 and 47 yards and tight ends Dennis Pitta and Ed Dickson had seven catches for 126 yards.

Grade: F

Run defense

The Raiders took the Doug Martin lesson of the previous week to heart as Ray Rice gained just 35 yards in 13 carries with a long run of 7 yards. Not until Bernard Pierce had a 12-yard run in the second half did Baltimore get a running play in double figures. They gave ground way to easily on Rice’s 7-yard touchdown run.

Grade: B

Special teams
A muffed punt by Phillip Adams led to a Baltimore touchdown and Jacoby Jones ripped off a 105-yard kickoff return to finish the scoring. Sebastian Janikowski converted field goal attempts from 22 and 47 yards and Shane Lechler punted well with a 54.8 yard gross and a 47.6 net.

Grade: D-minus

Coaching

The Raiders secondary looked as if it had never played together before as Flacco passed at will. The Raiders were fooled by a Ravens fake field-goal attempt that resulted in a 7-yard touchdown run by holder Sam Koch. Coming into a difficult road venue, the Raiders didn’t have the look of a team that was prepared to play, and coach Dennis Allen said the responsibility lies with him.

Grade: F

It really is. I have been a big DA supporter, I thought it was an excellent hire, but that was EMBARRASING out there. And when Harbaugh goes for fake FG up 41-17 to run it up? That is the league saying we don’t respect you.

I’m curious myself as to what exactly it is that D.A. has brought thus far to warrant any degree of loyalty from Raiders fans. The product that he is responsible for coaching has been historically bad, in terms of this franchise. As of this moment, what reason does anyone give as to why D.A. should not be fired immediately after this season. I’m sure there will be those that say that he should be given more time to make things work, but I dont believe in that so much. While I do feel that there are scenarios where time can be granted, in this case, I think D.A. has proven one singular thing, and it is that he is NOT the right man to be head coach of this football team. Period. The bottom line is that this team has regressed in EVERY facet of the game since this man took over as head coach. EVERY facet. He has FAILED. There is no other way to put it. With that said, what has D.A. done to warrant one more year?
    ****************************************

Exactly my point! If you’re so hard core that you fire Hue jackson wouldn’t you get someone clearly better suited than he is. I mean that coach went 8-8 in his rookie season and was FIRED! Unless you have someone in mind who is definitely better, why do it?

When Reg fired Hue I was absolutely sure he had someone already in mind who was a lock to do a better job. Only to find out he had no one in particular at all but goes on a coach search and comes up with this gem……..lol

It’s simple , he wanted to go a different direction, came in from a successful franchise, you don’t freaking scrap your plans because some one went 8-8 and 1-4 in last 5 , same like you don’t design your scheme around IR prone player

  • RAIDERMAN99

Wow. What a thumping. Now what ?

Amazingly, as bad as the final score was – I actually saw some stuff on offense that was an improvement over past weeks.

Not nearly enough to overcome this horribly inept pass defense, but I thought the offense had a semblance of a pulse.

Tip of the hat to Marcel Reese. Ran hard, caught well and played a solid game. Good versatile player.

Defense just incredibly bad. Some decent efforts stopping the run, but the entire secondary is just a sieve. Absence of a pass rush and poorly timed blitzes from 20 yards behind the LOS compounds this problem.

Tits Allen is in over his head and should be worried about retaining his job.

Let’s not forget he was hired as a defensive coach and the last 2 weeks have been historically bad. Completely unacceptable. And of course, he’s got to be held accountable for the Krapp hire.

There’s so many problems and so many instances of player failure, that I’m reluctant to single out any single individual and roast him.

But Josie Hansen deserves to be called out.

Listen IDIOT, your team is getting BLOWN OUT and you’re talking trash ? I don’t care how fired up you are or how excited you are over defending a single play – there is no room for playing the fool and talking sht, like a complete moron, at that moment.

Trash talking, undisciplined azzclown. Can’t blame Harbaugh for running the fake FG afterwards and smiling.

You’re obviously a person of intelligence which is why I am baffled as to why you have chosen the path of playing the annoying guy whose sole purpose is to instigate and rile with this incessant Palmer bashing and not really talk about anything else.

Why not take the path of legitmately talking about the entire team, including the defense, coaching, linemen. special teams, etc. etc. etc.

I don’t believe you are a Raider fan and that’s fine. You have a right to root for whomever you want. I wish you’d own up to it, but whatever.

You don’t need play the role of the blog dik. If that was your intention…congratulations… you’ve succeeded.

We all understand how you feel about Palmer. For god’s sake give it a rest.

The definition of “troll” from what i read is “one who INTENTIONALLY instigates negativity on an internet blog or forum”.

That is exactly what you’re doing.

We get it. We know where you stand on Palmer. Show us you’ve got something else in your repotoire.

Now if Hue had made the playoffs and won some games in it , the thing would be different, you don’t just come in and work with some one who was hired by previous GM and only went 8-8 LMAO at some posters

It’s OK to go with a different coach IF you know that coach is decidedly better man for the job. It take a few post to get a point through you concrete head. I have no problem if he had someone in mind decidely BETTER get it?

    exactly presitt,

hu jack was fired for off the field reasons

d.a is not delivering on the field and that is even worse

defense is his calling card but they are historically bad\\

this dude you are arguing with was all over bresnanahn but he gives d.a a pass?

    hmmm i smell an agenda

Your really stupid , if you haven’t checked my earlier posts, i have pointed out i was in favor of hue and thought he can do something with a better D.co.. but they went in a different direction , so stop crying over spilled milk, you guys are just too insensitive to everything

So, McMILLEN then hires a guy with ZERO head coaching experience at ANY LEVEL.
has 1 interview, with 1 guy, that he ends up hiring, is freakin’ criminal negligence.
Couldn’t be bothered to interview any other potential candidates?
Too busy ordering extra wide office chairs for his phat a z z?
This guy is a fraud, 18 years as an assistant was for a reason, he was NEVER GM material.
Don’t expect Mark to know this, cause he’s got ZERO knowledge about football ops.
Hoping someone steals this team out from under the Davis’s just like Al did to the McGah’s.

I think Mistic is just happy now because he has surpassed KoolKell in blog personality super stardom.

If McKenzie is a fraud, I guess not many Raider fans will notice since we are so used to having a fraud GM run our team.

BOth REG AND D ALLEN believe in ZBS , so they decided to go with a different coach ??? understand ???? and we lack talent on D, which would have killed us again, if HUE was here and still scoring , we would have allowed points on D next drive , Understood? NO??
    ****************************************************

How do you know who the DC is? Forget Hue Jackson dumbass I’m focused on the GUY HE HIRED. He did not have a a coach in waiting GET IT! I know he had to go through the protocol for hiring but everybody who fires a decent coach knows how to get a someone better suited. Or else why are we firing anybody?

I’m saying bring in a solid knowledgeable experienced coach to help you right the ship instead of some newbie anybody can do that.

    ———–

There really wasn’t any other good candidate out there, plus don’t be confused by last years 8-8 ,we really weren’t that good, the reason why our D still s8cks because we still have same freaking players, Wheeler Bartell and Spencer came on 1 year contracts for a reason, still same pass rush problem, if Hue was here, maybe we might have scored a few more points, but that wouldn’t have stopped the other teams from scoring more , I’m talking about teams with GOOD QB’s, this team needs a year with some money to work with and some draft picks to work with

YO YO YO THE BEEECH DAWG IS BACK BOOOO-YAAAAH

    Whut up Blog Nerds

You can all rest easy now, the BIG DAWG of the BLOG is back in the hizzy and ready to resume his classic Dweeb Beatdowns

Ahhh yeah Albert, that was just some tinkle you dropped in your undies

Had a DOPE EPIC party weekend, my ocean-smooth reggae band Rasta Ganja played on a Mega Yacht in San Diego

Played the whole show in just a muscle-T and a pair of Reeboks, so the Beeech Lawg got a major sunburn

And, of course (holla), the Beeech Digs got some major play from a few tanned yacht bunnies

Got a major BJ while I performed “finger-bang” style penetration on 2 fly hizzies

Then all 3 tossed my salad while the DJ played Total Eclipse of the Heart

That song always makes the Beeech Dawg tear up, shout out to Lil Wayne

WRECKS N EFFECT PULLIN’ MAJOR LA ‘TUDE

Mumbles could have interviewed Jeff Fisher, , Winston Moss…anyone who actually has NFL experience as a HC or as a player that might have some credibility w/ the team.
Instead we got a whiny little guy that “harps” on things so much, the players have tuned him out by week 9…
Big whiff on this hiring Reg, Along with the swing and miss on Bergstron, with our 1st pick in the draft, any Copetent owner would be working the phones looking for replacements…
Of course, that’s if we actually had COMPETENT OWNERSHIP! Which we don’t…
