Numerous players not practicing, including McFadden

Share

Running back Darren McFadden is among a handful of starters not at practice today, though tight end Brandon Myers is back on the field only three days after he suffered his second concussion of the season.
McFadden and primary backup Mike Goodson are not practicing today as a result of the high-ankle sprains they suffered against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 10 days ago. It’s likely that coach Dennis Allen will wait until Friday before deciding whether either can play this Sunday against the New Orleans Saints.
In the interim, Taiwan Jones, Jeremy Stewart and Marcel Reece are taking snaps at running back, as they did last week during the absence of McFadden and Goodson. All three played against the Ravens.
A Yahoo Sports report said there’s a chance that McFadden will play Sunday. Soon thereafter, the same site said McFadden is “iffy” for Sunday.
It says here, if McFadden isn’t able to practice at all this week, then he isn’t playing Sunday. Also, it’s a long way from being in a walking boot Monday to playing in a game six days later.

— Myers’ return bodes well for his playing Sunday. We won’t know until after Allen addressed the media whether Myers passed all the league-mandated tests for players that suffer a concussion.
Players aren’t allowed to participate in full-contact drills or play in games until they are cleared by a doctor.
Cornerback Michael Huff also is well enough to practice today despite suffering a calf injury against the Ravens.

— Recently signed linebacker Omar Gaither is at practice today. He is wearing No. 53 and taking part in all the drills.

— Defensive tackle Richard Seymour, strong safety Tyvon Branch and free safety Matt Giordano also aren’t practicing today.
Seymour missed practice all last week and didn’t play against the Ravens because of knee and hamstring issues. Branch (neck) and Giordano (concussion) suffered injuries against the Ravens.

— At one point today, Allen was quite hands on with the defense as it went through a full-unit drill. He said Monday that he has been pretty involved with the defense all along.
“I’ve been very involved in what we do game-planning-wise defensively,” Allen said. “But I’ll look at any avenue, or anything we need to do, that gives us a chance and helps us win football games.”
A short time later, Allen watched the offense go through its paces.

— Khalif Barnes is at practice today and working toward a return to the starting lineup at right offensive tackle.
Barnes missed the past seven games while recovering from a groin injury that required surgery. Allen said he expects Barnes to reclaim his spot against the Saints.
Willie Smith started the past seven games. Rookie Tony Bergstrom replaced Smith for 15 plays against the Ravens.

Myers gets a kill shot to the dome and is fine 3 days later.

McNinny twists his ankle and is out a month.

    Enough with the ninnies!!!!

Wow, with Branch not practicing…who do we have?

  • DMAC

    Is this Myers contract year?
He must be trying to get paid.

  • LA to TheBay

We have Mitchell… the real question is — who plays at FS if Gio (and his ego) is too bruised to go?? Huff back to FS and one of the scubs at CB like Adams. Against Brees.

  • DMAC

    Should of kept Lee.
    Lee/Bartell
    Huffy at FS

    Burn it down

  • DMAC

Why were our safeties trying to blitz 15-20 yds down the field?

Should be interesting to look up…did the Donks win after the 59-14 schalacking we gave them in 2010? Or, were they that 1 from a 5-1 record?

  • mcfadden20.

WOW might as well concede the game already , no depth at secondary and no pass rush , we’re looking at 60 points by Saints offense and full week of Mistics Palmer rants, can we just fast forward to our next week

My guess is that since they didn’t sign a CB to replace Huff yesterday that they expect Branch will be ok to play Sunday

  • mcfadden20.

I don’t think Colts won the following week last year after allowing 62 to Saints

  • mcfadden20.

I know Tennessee won this week after getting crushed by Chicago 51-20 the week before

    Ray Armstrong, SS, Miami

Armstrong is one of the biggest safeties in the business, blessed with incredible size at 6’4” and 215 pounds. Not surprisingly, he is a huge hitter and he strikes fear into any receiver venturing to come across the middle. Armstrong has great speed for his size, generally running around a 4.5 in the 40-yard dash and he has been clocked as fast as 4.44 from that distance. The junior is solid against the run when Miami stacks the line of scrimmage and is decent in pass coverage, although he will want to improve in that area as he heads to the next level.
Armstrong comes with a minor red flag, in that he had been suspended from the team earlier this year due to a questionable relationship with the owner of a PR firm (possible violation of NCAA rules). The Sanford, FL native has since been reinstated, but he has played in just six games with one start in 2011, so his stats are irrelevant. As a freshman in 2009, though, he played in 10 games and last season he had 79 tackles and three interceptions. Thanks to his NFL-esque frame and great potential,

Armstrong could be an early third-round selection if he bolts for the 2012 draft.

maybe if Taiwan fires off a gun next to a buddy’s head and jumps him, he’ll get more run this week. It seems to work for other guys who still get playing time when it’s obvious they suck. We don’t even know if Jones sucks yet.

I know our D is horrid, who do you guy’s feel we should keep and is worth keeping?

  • Al_is_theraiders

dennis allen is involved in the defense? he should be fired….

doubt reggie will take him due to his personal issues. unless someday GB drafts him and puts him on their practice squad.

  • nycraider

keeping pat lee cutting adams and having dmoore return punts wouldnt have made more sense?

  • LA to TheBay

Huff sucks. Why would he keep him? He’s a bust. Can’t cover, sure as fk can’t tackle. Kinda required for being a safety.

I would keep Huuf, but he’ll need to restructure.

Colts lost after giving up 62 points last year, Bronco’s lost after we hung 59 on them.

Not sure what that noise is all about.
