Numerous players not practicing, including McFadden

Running back Darren McFadden is among a handful of starters not at practice today, though tight end Brandon Myers is back on the field only three days after he suffered his second concussion of the season.
McFadden and primary backup Mike Goodson are not practicing today as a result of the high-ankle sprains they suffered against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 10 days ago. It’s likely that coach Dennis Allen will wait until Friday before deciding whether either can play this Sunday against the New Orleans Saints.
In the interim, Taiwan Jones, Jeremy Stewart and Marcel Reece are taking snaps at running back, as they did last week during the absence of McFadden and Goodson. All three played against the Ravens.
A Yahoo Sports report said there’s a chance that McFadden will play Sunday. Soon thereafter, the same site said McFadden is “iffy” for Sunday.
It says here, if McFadden isn’t able to practice at all this week, then he isn’t playing Sunday. Also, it’s a long way from being in a walking boot Monday to playing in a game six days later.

– Myers’ return bodes well for his playing Sunday. We won’t know until after Allen addressed the media whether Myers passed all the league-mandated tests for players that suffer a concussion.
Players aren’t allowed to participate in full-contact drills or play in games until they are cleared by a doctor.
Cornerback Michael Huff also is well enough to practice today despite suffering a calf injury against the Ravens.

– Recently signed linebacker Omar Gaither is at practice today. He is wearing No. 53 and taking part in all the drills.

– Defensive tackle Richard Seymour, strong safety Tyvon Branch and free safety Matt Giordano also aren’t practicing today.
Seymour missed practice all last week and didn’t play against the Ravens because of knee and hamstring issues. Branch (neck) and Giordano (concussion) suffered injuries against the Ravens.

– At one point today, Allen was quite hands on with the defense as it went through a full-unit drill. He said Monday that he has been pretty involved with the defense all along.
“I’ve been very involved in what we do game-planning-wise defensively,” Allen said. “But I’ll look at any avenue, or anything we need to do, that gives us a chance and helps us win football games.”
A short time later, Allen watched the offense go through its paces.

– Khalif Barnes is at practice today and working toward a return to the starting lineup at right offensive tackle.
Barnes missed the past seven games while recovering from a groin injury that required surgery. Allen said he expects Barnes to reclaim his spot against the Saints.
Willie Smith started the past seven games. Rookie Tony Bergstrom replaced Smith for 15 plays against the Ravens.

It’s just a wishful thinking , plus he’s getting more involved lately , just a wishful thinking because of his hands and his vertical and body size, if he can work on his route running, which we all hope , he can be #2 next year

WR is the least of our worries. It’s probably the Raiders strongest position.
    —————
except on 3rd down and in redzone. they struggle running routes and getting separation

I agree, but the rest of the team needs an upgrade badly.

It’s def better than other groups but still lack a true #1 , who can find open holes on 3rd downs and can be the go to guy in RZ, and when the game is on the line

    Should be using Hagan more.

Sucks that were back to “Next Year” mode in mid November again.

Despite the heartache of missing the playoffs in 2010 and 11, it was a pleasant change of pace actually being in the mix up until the last week or two (10) and last whistle (11).

And we got rid the HC from last year for this?

You guys don’t see the potential from Streater?? No, make no mistake, he’s impressive and getting better, especially for an undrafted kid that got 19 catches in a triple option offense in college last year.

    That’s our future #1.

    I hope.

We can sign either M Johnson from cincy 6 sacks or Cliff Avril Det 4.5 sacks next year and go one of the DE’s next year if we stick to 4-3

or Sign Randy Starks DT/NT Miami or Terrence Knighton NT JAX and move up to draft Jarvis Jones Georgia if we going to become multiple or full time 3-4

It’s the reality that our team wasn’t really that good to begin with, we lacked pass rush last year , which is why we couldn’t force 1 SD punt in week 17 and it has just gotten worse in that department, no reason to expect if we had better O , we would have been winning team , the reality is with that pass rush , we weren’t going to beat any team with a good QB even if we had Hue back

agree with those who say we have more pressing needs especially the D. IMO i think Dmoore would go to a whole new level if we brought in a legit possesion receiver . he struggling with the role of #1. but if we could pair him with a dwayne bowe type , i feel it would be lights outs in the passing game. even on 3rd down and redzone. once again , i get we have bigger needs

    ABP,

I snagged Reece a few weeks ago but left him on the bench because I thought Daniel Thomas from MIA was going to get a ton of 2nd half reps against the Titans! And I sat Myers last week against Tampa because I thought it would be a low scoring brutally physical football game. Fantasy Football is killing me; lost by 1pt because the stupid Chiefs gave up FGs instead of TDs to the Steelers and Suisham was my opponent’s kicker.

This is why Palmer will still be the QB next year, there are too many positions that need an upgrade. Might as well keep the QB who is playing pretty well. The only way Palmer is not our QB is if Reggie drafts a rookie and hecuts Palmer for salary cap reasons, or if Pryor beats him out.
