Curry waived by Raiders

By Steve Corkran
Tuesday, November 20th, 2012 at 11:40 am in Oakland Raiders.

The Raiders confirmed that they waived veteran outside linebacker Aaron Curry, soon after Curry sent out several Tweets saying that he was gone.
Curry Tweeted three times within a 6-minute span that he was gone. The Raiders ultimately confirmed the news.
He missed some of the offseason workouts, all of training camp and the first eight games this season as a result of sore knees. He recovered well enough to play in Oakland’s past two games.
In those games, he played 15 defensive snaps against the Baltimore Ravens but only three against the New Orleans Saints.
The Raiders traded for Curry last season. The move cost the Raiders a seventh-round draft pick in 2012 and a fifth-rounder next season.
Curry’s departure frees up a spot on the 53-man roster. Former agent Joel Corry said Curry will count $1.5 million in so-called dead money on next year’s salary cap.
Curry was the fourth pick of the 2009 NFL draft by the Seattle Seahawks. He failed to materialize into the game-changing linebacker that many envisioned.

Yes hire a proven winner and expect better results with same freaking players.. That’s not how things work, all teams need to keep on adding good players, especially ours since it wasn’t that good to begin with , we were like 25 M over the salary cap , Den enjoyed rolling over like 20 million from last year and try got P manning , NE still had cap room , and they will roll over more money than us again next year in hopes of improving their team in offseason , while we will be looking at which under performing player we should cut , Kelly? Seymour?

Dude just shut the fk up! Your obviously around 14 years old know nothing about football and the dumbest sumbich on this blog.

See this is the only answer i can expect from close minded people like you , who just think they can bring in certain named guy as a coach and we will just start winning, LMAO @ always a way to manage around the cap? how were you going to manage being 25 MIllion over the cap? and still sign good players, we are so many players away from becoming respectful, yet we couldn’t even bring 1 due to that , lets get another of your close minded responses

Reggie will stay! Everyone else dead men walking!! Reggie will admit he got it wrong and move on with a new staff! I can see Gruden and Hue get a phone call because thats what the fans want! Mark Davis said” he’s a fan” and “he is gonna get it right”! Reggie will do what Mark says just to stay!!

It’s as if you guys think Reggie will never signa bad contract……….haven’t you looked at what he’s done so far? Bad contracts are right around the corner based on what I’m seeing now.

Whatever he gave Bartell is a bad contract IMO the same is true with Brisiel. The truth is I think you guys are in for a very rude awakening. he may not be as free with money as Mr Davis was because HE CAN’T. It’s not his money Mr Davis could do that because it was his team his money. Big difference!!

    ==============================================

Brisiel was a multi-year deal. Ouch. Bartell, Spencer, Carter, Smith and Tollefson are all on one-year deals. As is Wheeler, but I hope we re-sign him.

Brisiel has been one of the biggest FA busts in the NFL this season. 5 years 20 mil. And he’ll be 5 mil against the cap the next 3 seasons.

Ok you’re just dumb , so we could of gotten Who? We couldn’t even keep the only decent pass rusher who wasn’t that great to begin with but was better than other players on this team, all of our secondary s8vks none of our CBs are playing for any team from last year..

And your prediction was to make the playoffs while mine was 4-12.Now who the fk is dumb? Shut up already.

I was dumb like you who bought into last year until i really got time to reflect over the season , we beat up horrible teams last year, got crushed by GB and NE,what we’re seeing this year is what would have happened last year if the schedule was reversed and that’s get crushed week after week

And the Patriots gave Brandon Lloyd a bad contract, and the Packers gave AJ Hawk a bad contract, and the Ravens gave Kyle Boller a bad contract—it happens.

Reggie has given bad contracts for damn sure. He might not be the answer. He might be a bum of a GM. But one year of football, where he took over a team that nowhere near resembled what he sees as a successful formula, is all he has had. No way it needs to be scrapped now. The leash can shortened, by all means, but give the guy a real shot.

I tend to agree with this. Reggie is not going to tie himself to a sinking staff. He will use this staff, DA included, as scapegoats for the horrible season.

    http://blog.sfgate.com/raiders/2012/11/21/raiders-have-gutted-half-their-roster/

With linebacker Aaron Curry being cut yesterday, the Raiders have now parted ways with 26 players who were on the 53-man roster Week 17 of last season. (Jacoby Ford makes 27 not on the roster but he is on injured reserve.)

Of the 27 players no longer on the Raiders roster from last year, 13 are no longer in the NFL (12 are elsewhere, Ford on IR, Boss on Chiefs IR).

    Here is the breakdown:

On another team: (12) Satele, Murphy, Bush, Van Dyke, McCann, Groves, Barksdale, Schilens, Scott, Bruce Campbell, Jason Campbell, Wimbley

No longer in NFL: (13) Routt, Boller, Curry, Heyer, Cartwright, Boyd, Tonga, Blackstock, Houshmandzadeh, Moss, Brodine, Henderson, Sheppard\

On IR: (2) Ford (Raiders), Boss (Chiefs)

The Raiders may not fill Curry’s roster spot until later in the week.

Of course a better coaching staff can do more with the same players.. That’s why some people get paid more than others

  • mcfadden20.

Bartell was coming from year away from football, Shaugnessy was coming from year away from football, SPencer was a scrub who we tried out for 1 year, Joselio Hanson cut by the eagles, Lee was a PS some where year ago , M Huff was not good at FS to begin with but now learning at CB, Branch just played better in a contract year, McClain is playing in a wrong scheme, Wheeler came from one of the worst Ds from last year , Burris was a 5th rd pick, Kelly and Seymour(knee Problems) are year older, houston is a DT playing at a wrong position

  • MiamiRaider78

My bad, I always liked Hagan. Hagan as well.

Should have called Parcels for GM!!!

  • boss01

I just don’t get how some coaches win sb’s with putrid defenses like Belichick and Payton but some people are giving DA a pass for inherting a pile of crap on a defense that went 16-16 last two years.

He won’t get a pass from me. He has showed me absolutely nothing to make me think he is HC material. He sure shown an inkling of that “it” factor people keep talking about.

What do you mean, “5 mil against the cap”??? Very little of that money was guaranteed. Pretty sure Reggie can cut bait on him after this year with minimal cap implications.

and your still trying to learn the nfl game.

  • cwolfman

Also… For the people bringing up Hue as someone we should have kept instead of bringing in DA (and I’m not say your wrong…), remember, Hue was the Raiders OC the year before he became the HC, so he had already implemented some of the system his first year as OC.

  • DJ Johnny

As far as ESPN reporting Gruden was gonna leave the MNF booth and then recanting the story, what it was is during the taping pf PTI today they interviewed Peter King who speculated that IF Gruden were to leave to take a coaching gig, that the brass at ESPN would not be happy about it.

    That’s all.

  • MarcusAllen

We got what we got cause nothing has changed.

Parcels, Walsh, Bellechick, Johnson might have had a bad first year but all were head coaches at some level before nfl success. Bellechick being something of exception but he too had to learn on the browns nickle. All those guys had a ton of experience before being HC and all their bad teams showed flashes.

DA has nothing to compare – no flashes – nada zilch. You got to earn it. Christ he even has a somewhat decent QB.

Make no mistake this is as bad as it gets. The only way it gets worse is when Palmer gets injured and they bring in Leinart. Which again will PROVE they have no clue how to build for the future.

  • cwolfman

I agree with your points MA, but those teams also had some real good players on them, and I bet all those coaches had draft picks and weren’t in “cap jail” like the Raiders are/were. I’m not really comparing DA to any of those great coaches. Heck, for all I know, he will never be a good HC. All I’m saying is, given what he has had to deal with (personnel wise), I give him a little break this season.

I mean, lets do a little test here….. Can anyone tell me the names of all the great/or even “very good” players we have on this team right now? I’m betting you can’t come up with very many names.

  • MiamiRaider78

Can ever really gauge a players potential if the coaching is poor?

  • cwolfman

That’s true with rookies, but not always true with vets. What vets (3+ years) are great or very good on the Raiders? This means we have seen what they have done before AD either on the Raiders or on a different team.

  • DaRaiders022

Maybe if they had put Curry on special teams, he could’ve helped our sorry kickoff teams! Our kick coverage team looks like Moe, Joe and Curly out there!!
