Curry waived by Raiders

The Raiders confirmed that they waived veteran outside linebacker Aaron Curry, soon after Curry sent out several Tweets saying that he was gone.
Curry Tweeted three times within a 6-minute span that he was gone. The Raiders ultimately confirmed the news.
He missed some of the offseason workouts, all of training camp and the first eight games this season as a result of sore knees. He recovered well enough to play in Oakland’s past two games.
In those games, he played 15 defensive snaps against the Baltimore Ravens but only three against the New Orleans Saints.
The Raiders traded for Curry last season. The move cost the Raiders a seventh-round draft pick in 2012 and a fifth-rounder next season.
Curry’s departure frees up a spot on the 53-man roster. Former agent Joel Corry said Curry will count $1.5 million in so-called dead money on next year’s salary cap.
Curry was the fourth pick of the 2009 NFL draft by the Seattle Seahawks. He failed to materialize into the game-changing linebacker that many envisioned.

    JDB,

Bill Belichick’s first season in New England was 5-11.

Jimmy Johnson’s first season in Dallas was 1-15.

Bill Parcells first season in New York was 3-12-1

What did they show in ANY of those seasons to justify a 2nd? And these are legendary guys. No one’s expecting DA to be a Hall of Famer. He just deserves a fair chance. 10 games is NOT a fair chance.
    ————————————————-
I have posted my thoughts on this a few days ago, cause I am a fan of Belichick as a coach. Yes, they went 5-11 his first season, but go back and look at those games. They were competitive every week, could have won a lot of the games they lost, and at least were showing signs of being an actual football team. Then, Super Bowl one season later. Has DA shown you anything this year to think he’ll have this team anywhere close to SB next year? Belichicks team showed they could at least compete every week. DA’s team is worse in every way from the previous season, and seems to regress weekly. Like Ive said before, Im all for patience, but it has to be the right guy. So my question to you is, what has DA shown you to make you feel that he has the ability to turn things around?

    THIS is where it’s at.

Let’s say that all the impatient people who want to win NOW go along with giving DA some time cuz he “inherited a mess” etc. etc. Let’s say we are all on board with that.

The problem then is what Mark Davis said…the regression.

It’s all well and good to wait as things slowly build and Reggie gets new players in etc. but this thing is plummeting at a record pace. THAT is the problem.

I looked at Belichiks 1st season too and you’re right… alot of close losses and competitive EVERY GAME.

Right now, we are so low in misery that it almost looks hopeless and it could keep on getting worse, which does not speak well of the current staff.

These are the same players who beat Pittsburgh and played SD and Atl. close.

Al fired HC after about 1.2 years on average for the past decade…..how well did that turn out again?

=========================================== Doesnt really matter what Al did in the past.Al is gone now,but that in no way means DA should stay.He hired the staff, mistake. He changed the offensive system, mistake. We cant compete with anybody right now and that also falls on him.Although Reggie bottom lip as the general manager allowed these thngs to happen. Its his job to oversee these decisions and make sure that a ROOKIE HC is not regressing this team. There is no doubt in my mind a experienced HC like a Gruden or Cowher could turn this thing around.Salary cap my as$!Reggie should have been busy makeing better roster moves.Reggie is a joke.
    ************************************************
This the only reason I MIGHT be willing to give him another year at all if this continues. But there is NO WAY I give him another year with this staff……..no freakin way!!

  • http://www.raiders.com Raider O

Btw, I’m not a Hue fan, and I don’t think he is a good HC. I was making a point about stability.
Hue had time to get his nails done, but not enough time to eliminate penalties, score in the 2nd half, and fix the defense.

  • No Mas Diamante

DA does not whiff on tackles or throw picks or run the wrong passing route or hold or give up kick off returns for TD’s. Niner fans wanted to run Bill Walsh out of town on a rail during his first season as HC. DA beat a good steeler team and played a good game in the loss at atlanta while fielding a team with little depth or proven starters. He gets a pass for one more season. you people…

  • mcfadden20.

Look at the over-reacting little babies, all planned SB parties after last year 8-8 against weak teams, can’t believe people can be so short sighted , I don’t think Hues couple of more points a game would have saved us the embarrassment from getting our asses handed against good teams ,remember last year when we met teams playing for playoffs or trying to play for their head coach,we lost ?? Det Loss, Mia Loss ,GB loss , KC barely won cuz Seymour blocked that fg in the end ,SD loss, what it’s telling is we were just lucky with the schedule ,and when teams really came to play we got crushed

  • Al_is_theraiders

the stupid thing all the regressors cant understand, is that mark knows its regression, reggie thought he had the talent for a playoff run, even sa by his own admission was exoecting playoffs and he doesnt believe in rebuilding. but they must be deaf, blind and stupid.

I agree that a Gruden or a Cowher would have done a better job than DA….but that is exactly my point…..we have ZERO chance of hiring a proven guy like those guys if we continue to be dysfunction junction.

We need to be in the position to make the organization look appealing to a coach like that…..sure we can continue to hire and fire guys every 1.2 years, and hope we stumble across a decent coach once every decade, or we can let Reggie get this organization looking like it is now a 21st century organization that thinks things through rather than just one that constantly has knee jerk reactions…..and we might land a real HC for once.

Typical short term thinking from this blog. Reggie had trouble getting anyone decent to return his calls just ten months ago, but if we just fire DA, then I am sure quality coaches will break down his door asking for the job!!!!!

    Lmao good luck with that.

I was one of these blog guys who thought we turned the corner and we might have something with Hue ,with his own DC ,but when I really got the chance to look back and reflect upon the season , I was like hey we weren’t really that good, just happened to have a better running game and QB than previous years and we beat up on weak competition and got crushed against teams the like of NE and GB , then the FA came along , I knew we weren’t going anywhere with this D ,which regressed because Kell and Seymour got year older ,and Wimbley who was our best pass rusher was cut to make salary cap room to field team of 53, I knew Knapp was a bad hire and we have struggled to score points ,but still when I look at it ,I believe we’re #1 WR and healthy RB away from becoming a top team that can go head to head against other top teams ,even then the other top teams will prevail because we got no pass rush , it’s simple as that, we won’t win sh1t until some trash in D side is cleaned out and we become atleast above average D and great O with #1 WR or average O with great D

Dakota, you are one dumb hick, Why would all these assistant coaches follow them here?
Many very capable coaches interviewed some great ones as well. No matter what program you’re talking about you’re not going to get any coach you want. Sean Payton left this office with a SIGNED contract and Parcells talked him out of it.
There are a laundry list of coaches willing to come here that Reggie had in mind and mr Davis wanted it’s just his son wanted to go in another direction.

Coaches are as plentiful as players damn near, it’s what does Mark Davis want. He had every chance to hire a great coach but he let the GM hire his”Own Guy”. And we’re stuck with this mess.

Games are over before halftime now because teams aren’t finding it easy to run on us , so all they do is call any pass play and their QB is sitting back there with all the time to throw, secondary breaks down long TD, we get the ball back ,one of stupid wr’s run the wrong route ,or drop a first down ,we punt and then the D gets the ball ,they call a few run plays and then the pass play comes on an obvious passing down and we try to blitz with stupid to try to help the front four, still the QB has all the time , throws for a long bomb and game over
