McFadden, Seymour not practicing once again
By Steve Corkran
Wednesday, November 21st, 2012 at 11:52 am in Oakland Raiders.
Raiders coach Dennis Allen said he is hopeful of getting back some of his injured players this week. For now, he has to settle for seeing strong safety Tyvon Branch back on the field after missing most of practice last week, as well as the game against the New Orleans Saints.
Running backs Darren McFadden and Mike Goodson and defensive tackle Richard Seymour are not practicing today. All three missed the past two games with injuries.
Taiwan Jones, Jeremy Stewart and Marcel Reece are taking reps at running back in the absence of Oakland’s top two backs.
Allen said Monday that Goodson still was in a walking boot. McFadden ran around on the field last week, but he still hasn’t been cleared to return to practice. Both are recovering from high-ankle sprains.
Desmond Bryant is taking Seymour’s reps in practice once again.
On a positive note, linebacker Philip Wheeler and Jones are practicing today despite suffering injuries against the Saints.
– Defensive line coach Terrell Williams rejoined the team Monday, 10 days or so after his 4-year-old son passed away.
Williams is on the field, back at work, today. Let’s hope he finds a measure of comfort in being back around people that care for him and his family so much and that working helps him in the healing process.
– The Raiders still have not filled the vacancy on their 53-man roster created by the waiving of outside linebacker Aaron Curry on Tuesday.
– The Raiders are practicing on artificial turf today as a result of the recent rains. This is one of the few times in recent memory in which the Raiders used that field.

Brisiel has been one of the biggest FA busts in the NFL this season. 5 years 20 mil. And he’ll be 5 mil against the cap the next 3 seasons.
===============================================
What do you mean, “5 mil against the cap”??? Very little of that money was guaranteed. Pretty sure Reggie can cut bait on him after this year with minimal cap implications.

I just don’t get how some coaches win sb’s with putrid defenses like Belichick and Payton but some people are giving DA a pass for inherting a pile of crap on a defense that went 16-16 last two years.
He won’t get a pass from me. He has showed me absolutely nothing to make me think he is HC material. He sure shown an inkling of that “it” factor people keep talking about.
—
They are not that putrid as we are, they can still rush the passer, they added players this year, they always draft a good player for D in first year or two , and they draft players based on the scheme they will run, they don’t just draft them by looking at their 40s , plus they have freaking Tom Brady’s and Drew Brees with better Oline’s and Receivers that are head and shoulders above ours

To follow up on Brisiel, here’s his salary numbers:
http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/oakland-raiders/mike-brisiel/
His bonus was 3.4 million, which means if Reggie cuts him after this season, it’s a 700K (give or take) cap hit for the next several years. No biggie.

My point is Reggie is just as capable of signing bad contracts as anyone else. Something that seems to escape most in here.

With linebacker Aaron Curry being cut yesterday, the Raiders have now parted ways with 26 players who were on the 53-man roster Week 17 of last season. (Jacoby Ford makes 27 not on the roster but he is on injured reserve.)
Of the 27 players no longer on the Raiders roster from last year, 13 are no longer in the NFL (12 are elsewhere, Ford on IR, Boss on Chiefs IR).
Here is the breakdown:
On another team: (12) Satele, Murphy, Bush, Van Dyke, McCann, Groves, Barksdale, Schilens, Scott, Bruce Campbell, Jason Campbell, Wimbley
No longer in NFL: (13) Routt, Boller, Curry, Heyer, Cartwright, Boyd, Tonga, Blackstock, Houshmandzadeh, Moss, Brodine, Henderson, Sheppard\
On IR: (2) Ford (Raiders), Boss (Chiefs)
The Raiders may not fill Curry’s roster spot until later in the week.

Were you on vacation that MONTH?
Hue went in FRONT OF CAMERA, and flapped his lips, to where everyone who heard it immediately knew he just signed his own pink slip.
Immediately.
Of course Reggie went elsewhere.
Last thing he or any new GM needs is a mouthy primadonna HC who just stated to the WORLD THAT HE’S EARNED THE RIGHT TO BE HC AND TO MAKE DECISIONS REGARDING THE ORGANIZATION.
He “earned the right”???
And a new GM should keep that guy, who just made it clear he doesn’t want to be told what to do, that he’s “earned the right” to make his own decisions???
Hue became a joke. A laughingstock.
But memories are short.
Feel free to go look it up. Go to any Raider board, and there are threads after threads of Hue opening mouth/inserting foot
======================
And alot of us think he did earn the right,he worked his a$$,was original,competed and came up short.I heard what he said.Big fkn deal.He deserved another year.
=========================================
That’s why everyone is entitled to an opinion.
he didn’t work his a$$ off. He spent more time polishing his head, and his toe nails, than improving the team.
This same primadonna sat DHB, and lied on why he did. Sat others, and caught lying about that as well.
Trades he made were suspect.
Across the NFL, much less Raider fan, noticed his swelled head, and primadonna comments.
Guess you just give everyone a pass, regardless of what they do?

I completely agree with this. The only difference is I don’t think Allen is going anywhere until the end of next season at the earliest. Allen is doing what very good Head Coaches do: he is letting his subordinates do the playcalling and coaching. That has been a disaster. So is Knapp, Tarver and Hoffman on the hot seats? You bet your ASS. On another note, we saw in the last game the exact same thing we have seen for YEARS. Late in the lst half, with the game still close, the coaching staff tells the safety don’t let anyone behind you. That is safety play 101. What does Mitchell do? Let’s a guy run right past him for six Is that Allen’s fault? No. Have we seen that happen here before? Yes. Is it time to set the barn on fire and burn the rats? You bet your ASS.

No it isn’t and I can tell you why: lst off we didn’t get in, secondly even if we did somehow back in we had no momentum and lastly, playing poorly at the end of the year carries over to this year which is what we are seeing now.
So you guys who live on a short run are happy with 8-8 and faking like we have a chance and you dance in the streets. But anyone who knows better would like to see the barn set on fire and the whole thing burnt to the ground and then rebuilt with winning players, coaches and systems.

The season is almost over. DA is running out of time to make a good impression. The fact remains that Reggie and the staff thought they were going to get credit for bringing the Raiders back, before the season started. They were certain that by bringing in a young defensive minded coach, they would instantly upgrade the team with an already productive offensive unit, that they actually expected to get better with a full training camp. Not only has the defense been much worse than what most Raiders fans were calling the single worst defense they had ever seen under Chuck Bresnehan, but he has also found a way to take the run offense, which was the strength of the team, and reduce it to non-existant. These guys in no way felt like they were inheriting a franchise and roster that was in shambles. They felt they were taking over a team on the brink of turning it around.

“It was exactly a year ago that the Raiders spent Thanksgiving Day in the midst of a three-game win streak throughout which they sat atop the AFC West.
Quarterback Carson Palmer, who had been plucked off the inactive list in October, was finding his timing and rounding into shape.
The field leader, Hue Jackson, was in the Coach of the Year conversation, even though a certain coach across the Bay was the front-runner.
And one year later, it’s all gone.”

“But, really, how much rebuilding and fixing should be necessary for a team that was so close to the 2011 playoffs?
It figured the Raiders might be better equipped to improve this season than last.
Running back Darren McFadden had developed into a star, though plagued by injury. Darrius Heyward-Bey, a first-round vanity project of late former owner Al Davis, emerged from Bustville to become a functional wide receiver. Fellow wideout Denarius Moore flashed tremendous promise.
Unlike 2011, this team would have a full offseason program and training camp, with Palmer participating throughout.
All the 2011 Raiders needed to reach the playoffs was an ordinary defense — only Buffalo in the AFC allowed more points — and surely in 2012 they could be at least ordinary under former defensive coordinator Allen.
But Oakland’s defense has been inconsistent against the run and worse against the pass. The improvement that seemed apparent in mid-October has dissolved into the same familiar rut of ineptitude seen last season and so many seasons before.
Two years after Jackson was installed as offensive coordinator and solved Oakland’s long-standing problem scoring points, that problem is back with a vengeance. The unit is a mess. Palmer is lost, so is Moore. McFadden was ineffective before sustaining an injury two weeks ago. DHB once again looks like a backup.”

Ya, we get it.
JC sucks. He’s black.
Palmer makes mistakes. He’s white.
JC got dumped, and as it turned out the decision was correct. because he sucks.
Palmer is still here, 3rd best qb in the league as far as yards (as I recall from other night)but all that matters to you is that the Raiders won a couple of games IN SPITE OF THE QB.
That “in spite of the qb” part confuses you, doesn’t it?
Your tirade about tossing out all these qb names (who, just COINCIDENTIALLY are all black) has you backtracking like a fool, due to the fact most of those qb’s are now struggling.

Palmer leads the AFC in passing yardage and has thrown less int’s than many of the top QB’s in the game this yr. Please don’t make go and list them we already went over that.
THAT is “putrid”.
If you’re going by record, only a short sighted person with predisposed blind hatred (like you) would ignore that we had the worst defense since the ‘52 Texans last yr. and an even worse one this yr.
Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, Cam Newton…whomever…would not do any better with this team and you know it.
We get it. You hate Palmer. Move on please.

I think anyone saying firing Hue for opening his mouth and saying this and saying that is a very swallow arguement. Action speaks louder than words. Also, Hue was speaking to the guys that were not going to be there under him if they kept him as head coach.So this stuff about throwing his players under the bus does not have much merit. All Mark Davis and Reggie had to do was sit down with Hue and tell his to tone it down and Hue Jackson would have complied with their demands. How loud is Hue now? Is he talking over the head coach of the Bengals? No!! He was directed by his superiors to perform his duty there and he is compling with those duties. Hue would have gladly stayed here and done what he was told to do by his superiors here in Oakland.

So since someone else had the handle you just reworked it because, uh, you couldn’t think of another one, because you’re not very bright? Is that it? Look, we know your stupid, fat and bald, and you ran out of gas on the way to borrow money from your mom. But that doesn’t mean your life sucks, hold on, actually, it does. You and your life suck.
====================================
How old are you?
“stupid fat and bald” takes?
“mom” takes?
That was a real hit in Jr High, no doubt.
and the “you and your life suck”?
You notice how you had nothing to dispute my comments?
Of course you didn’t.
Kind of satisfying knowing I knocked you into a fetal position so easily.
The only thing a little kid would have left out was “you live in the basement” take.
Anyway you can make it complete by adding that?
C’mon kid, you can do it.

Jc doesnt need any defense, what he accomplished here is unmatched by palmer.

Palmer leads the AFC in passing yardage and has thrown less int’s than many of the top QB’s in the game this yr. Please don’t make go and list them we already went over that.

Yes. Let’s stick with WINS as the defining criteria for a QB. Championships too. Back to football. This is NOT a good matchup for us. The Bunghole defensive line is playing very well, and our Oline is not. That is once again, going to put a lot of pressure on Palmer. Back to football. This is NOT a good matchup for us. The Bunghole defensive line is playing very well, and our Oline is not. That is once again, going to put a lot of pressure on Palmer. On the other side, Dalton and Green are playing well. We have not gotten any pass rush, and our corners can do little if anything without it. Looks like another long day…..
==========================
That, TO YOU, is a football take?
Our oline isn’t playing well? Which puts pressure on Palmer? We don’t have a pass rush?
A FIVE YEAR OLD COULD HAVE STATED THAT. Way to go, breaking it down. Oh ya, that’s football at it’s finest, lol.
You idiot. If you want to try and change the subject of you getting pummeled at least put in an effort, instead of begging everyone to stop slapping you.
is that too much to ask?

he had a wining record as the starter here, and protected the ball, and players around him improved.
The opposite is true for the guy that followed, turnovers and losses at a dizzying clip and players around him have regressed.
Im not sure why you and others are still stuck on this, jc is gone. he won here so i consider his time great as a raider

**************************************************
At least that is what they told everyone, and why would they lie? DA said on several occasion that he thought this was a playoff roster………his words!.

===========================================
That’s the point, the team DOES need a lot. Starting on the Oline with a center and two guards, another bona fide TE would not hurt, a RB would not hurt, and another SOLID WR would not hurt. That’s a lot right there.
Then the entire Dline needs to be rebuilt, MLB is a necessity, and two corners and a safety would probably be in the cards as well. That is a lot of players right there. You cannot do that in one draft.

Palmer starts until/unless injured. Maybe if injured, and then Lienart stinks it up, you will then see TP (a la Russell at the end of 07).

=========================================
Honestly, no. But lets try. Holding Branch and Seymour out, might be able to give them a little life for the last quarter of the season. They are our two best defenders and frankly both of them are worn out. A couple or more weeks off has got to help.
Offensively the number one thing to me is McFadden has been completely useless. But Reece sure looked good. Getting Khalif Barnes back is going to help. If we could just get someone on the interior of the line to play well (Bergstrom, Nix?), that might shore up the line enough, with Reece or Stewart igniting the offense. Forget Moore, Criner is the guy who has to emerge along with Hagan and Streator. But the operative word in this whole thing is “might”.

So when Carson gets embarrassed in front of his former team on sunday , does Pryor finally get soem snaps? I mean the game will be over by half time since the bungles D will score 14 points of INTS and 7 more off a Palmer fumble in the endzone… Also Dennis Allen is a great defensive GURU ain’t he !
=============
i think the raider dropped the ball and should have broken in tp6 the way harbaugh found ways to use kappy.
I agree that the bungle bowl is the biggest game of carsons life and when/ if he flops it will be time to sit him down in favor tp6.
If only to evaluate t pryor and get a jump on the draft process, and perhaps get some interest in pryor if he isnt in the long term plans
This is also a means to sell tix post bungle bowl 2012
===========================================
It really isn’t a bad idea. One of two things would happen: if Pryor plays well, you are going to have a QB controversy going forward and that would not be good. If Pryor plays poorly, which is more likely to happen, it would shut the fans taco holes up.

If Marcel Reese can stay healthy he can remain as the feature back. When Goodson returns he can be the change of pace back.
Taiwan Jones should be moved to WR if he has the requisite hands & route running skills. His dyslexia may prove a hindrance in deciphering option pass routes.
McFadein (or out, depending on your point of view) hopefully can command a second round draft (or in the Raiders stead, daft pick) pick in the upcoming draft. But he can’t be trusted to return any time soon. As in another early dismissal for the ever disappointing Ferarri. . .

I don’t see us drafting a QB with the first round pick this year. I think the Reg is one of those guys who is SO confident in his ability to find football players he will trade down and get more dudes.
He will keep doing this until he can LOAD the entire roster with guys he thinks are talented, play hard, and aren’t going to break the bank all Wimbley style….
Then out of those dudes, a few will end up true stars and need to get paid to stick around….

It is clear that if pryor succeeds out of the gate many here will find ways to dis credit what he does.
if pryor struggles out of the gate people will be extremely impatient and want to run him out after one game.
A qb controversy would be welcome, one it means we have more than one viable option. Second it would mean that palmer would need to play better than 7-13 33 turnovers to keep his gig. Either scenario is favorable for real raider fans in this instance.

From Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer
Less than 24 hours after the Bengals beat the Chiefs, everyone was already looking at this week’s opponent. Then again, many have been looking forward to this game since the schedule was released in April, since it is Carson Palmer’s return to Cincinnati.
Quarterback Andy Dalton and head coach Marvin Lewis got an early jump on some of the questions on Monday. Lewis pointed out during a team meeting that 28 of the players on the current 53-man roster weren’t here when Palmer was.
“There’s no reason for them to answer questions. That tells you how quickly things change in the NFL,” Lewis said. “Now he’s not here, so our job is to beat the Oakland Raiders and Carson Palmer come Sunday. That’s part of what we’re here for.”
When Dalton and Palmer exchange pleasantries during pregame warmups, it will be the first time they have met. With last year’s lockout wiping out the offseason, the only time players were truly questioned about Palmer was during voluntary workouts.
• Joe Reedy’s Bengals blog
The message remained consistent until Palmer was traded – it was his choice to retire rather than play for the Bengals. After a 4-2 start last season, the trade for Palmer went through when the Raiders offered first- and second-round draft picks after Jason Campbell got injured.
“It’s great to show that they had the confidence in me to do something like that, because I guess at any time he could have walked in the door. Or they could not have done the trade. I don’t know,” Dalton said. “Everything’s worked out. For me, it’s perfect. I got to play all last year, got to start and didn’t have to worry about any of that stuff.”
When asked if he kept in touch with Palmer, Lewis said he has spoken to him by text a couple of times, but that was it.
“Carson had a good career here. His family is great, but he no longer plays here,” Lewis said. “I don’t think we need to spend any more time talking about it. It’s no different from any other player that played here and comes back. It’s part of the NFL and professional sports.”
Palmer’s return comes at a time when it appears Dalton has played his two most consistent games of the year. After throwing for a career-high four touchdowns against the Giants, Dalton completed 18 of 29 for 230 yards and a pair of touchdowns against the Chiefs.
He has not thrown an interception in the last two games and has four games this season where his passer rating has been over 100. With 20 touchdowns, he has already matched last season’s total.
“I think I’m really comfortable back there with everything we’re doing, whether it be protections or route concepts or stuff like that. So the more I’m playing and the more experience I get, the more comfortable I feel,” Dalton said.
Lewis has also been happy with Dalton’s efficiency, especially in the red zone. Over the past three games, the Bengals have scored touchdowns on nine of 12 trips.
Palmer and the Raiders have lost three straight, including a 38-17 decision to New Orleans on Sunday, to drop to 3-7. With a running game that is ranked 31st in the league, Palmer has five 300-yard games and six where he has had 40 attempts or more. He has thrown 17 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
Even more important for Lewis, Sunday’s game is another in what looks to be a favorable stretch. With Indianapolis and Pittsburgh losing Sunday, the Bengals find themselves just one game out of a wild card spot and a game clear of a logjam of five teams that are 4-6. Over the next four games, the Bengals face only one team that has a record of .500 or better (5-5 Dallas on Dec. 9).
The postseason picture, though, will probably take a backseat considering who is coming to town. So far the game hasn’t drawn much of a reaction from fans. The Bengals’ ticket office said “plenty of seats” remain available for the game but that an aggressive push is on to get it sold out.
Said Bengals linebacker and former Raider Thomas Howard: “I think the media will have a great time talking about it. Carson coming back and the fans should enjoy it. I’m expecting a good football game.”

Yeah, but those are completely different circumstances. Denver moved up in the draft to take Teblows. They paid a lot for him and Dungver fan wanted to see what he could do. We didn’t pay a lot for Pryor. Playing in front of Teblows was Orton, who was a journeyman Q (at best) who came along as a throw in for the Jay Cutler deal. Orton played decently, but the Buncos were not winning. So fans, (primarily fundamental Christian fans) wanted to see what Teblows could do. Elway, Fox and co. knew he was not an NFL caliber player and put him in just to shut the fans up. Well, the rest is NFL history.
That is different from here. Here, we paid A LOT for an overall number one who is the undisputed starter. The starter has played well. There is little if anything to gain from benching Palmer, who we paid a lst and a 2nd for, and putting in a guy just to see what he can do to cater to a small group of seemingly foolish fans. (No offense). As I said, say Pryor plays poorly, well, you probably rushed him in there too soon and might have ruined the player. Let’s say Pryor plays lights out, well you just gutted a player you paid a lst and a 2nd for, now what do you do with him? Bench him? Trade him for a 7th rounder? Have a HUGE QB controversy? Not a lot of upside in this “play Pryor” scenario. More bad things can happen than good.

======================
And alot of us think he did earn the right,he worked his a$$,was original,competed and came up short.I heard what he said.Big fkn deal.He deserved another year.
=========================================
Guess you just give everyone a pass, regardless of what they do
I am laughing so hard at this. I wanna thank you for this laugh and im a hue jackson fan but I thought and said at the time . The GM has the right to get his guy. I still believe we all are oever reacting on this season. I still believe the oakland raiders will be one of the top 5 teams in a couple years. Reggie and dennis took the job and im glad they did. How many would have , how many were willing? GO raiders and Happy Holidays to everyone on here.

Pryor would not be starting for the Raiders if Al were still alive; Peyton Manning would.

Coaches matter. remember cassel played well in NE under a great coach and bombed in KC with lousy coaches. Flynn did great in GB under great coaching/schemes, now he sux.
Raiders offense top 10 under good coaching, same guys now blow with bad coaches/schemes.
