Two added to injury report, one removed

By Steve Corkran
Thursday, November 22nd, 2012 at 2:29 pm in Oakland Raiders.

The Raiders removed wide receiver Denarius Moore (hamstring) from the injury report Thanksgiving Day. That positive news was offset by running back Taiwan Jones (ankle) and defensive end Jack Crawford (toe) being added to the injury report.
Perhaps of more import, running backs Darren McFadden and Mike Goodson and defensive tackle Richard Seymour didn’t practice once again.
If none of those three practices Friday, it’s very unlikely that any of them will play Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals, especially considering they haven’t played the past two games or practiced for almost three weeks.
The Raiders have an abbreviated practice Friday and then head to the airport for the flight to Cincinnait.

– Twenty seven players that were on the Raiders roster for the final regular-season game last season no longer are on the 53-man roster.
Wide receiver Jacoby Ford still is with the Raiders, though he is on season-ending injured reserve and doesn’t count on the 53-man roster.
Thirteen of those 27 players no longer are in the NFL. Thirteen are playing for other teams. Ford is the 27th.
Waiving veteran outside linebacker Aaron Curry was the latest purging of players from the roster that coach Dennis Allen and general manager Reggie McKenzie inherited.

– A blown coverage by outside linebacker Miles Burris against the Saints that resulted in a touchdown by Saints tight end Jimmy Graham can be chalked up to a rookie mistake, coach Dennis Allen said.
That wasn’t Burris’ lone issue against the Saints as he learns on the job — Burris has started all 10 games this season.
Burris allowed eight receptions for 63 yards and one touchdown on the eight times he was targeted by Saints quarterback Drew Brees last Sunday, according to Pro Football Focus. Burris also missed two tackles.

– Allen isn’t making too much of the Raiders playing a game against a Bengals team that features his predecessor, Hue Jackson.
In fact, he hasn’t even mentioned anything to his players about the subject.
“We haven’t addressed it,” Allen said. “We’re playing the Cincinnati Bengals and we’ve got to worry about doing the things that we have to do to have success. We can’t worry about any of those outside distractions. And really, it’s not a major factor in the game. It’s going to be our players going out and our players executing against their team.”

– Allen has no issue with the schemes used by first-year defensive coordinator Jason Tarver. It’s on the players to do their part on a more consistent basis.
“It’s been the same the whole year,” Allen said, as far as his level of involvement in the defense. “We haven’t changed anything as far as how we call the games. I’ve been pleased with the play-calling, and we’ve just got to do a better job overall of getting the right execution.”

– 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith recorded 5 1/2 sacks against the Chicago Bears on Monday night. That total is half what the Raiders notched as a team their first 10 games.
For that paltry total to change much, Allen said, the Raiders need the defensive linemen tp play in concert, first and foremost.
“I don’t think we have the great speed rusher coming off the edge, like a lot of people do,” Allen said. “Our guys can rush the passer, and we’ve just got to work together and understand how to work together as a four-man rush.”
Better coverage by linebackers and defensive backs also can augment the pass rush.
“It’s a combination of pass rush and pass coverage,” Allen said. “We’ve got to do a better job of winning our one-on-ones, whether that be in coverage or whether that be in the rush, and those things work together. It really comes down to individual battles and we’ve got to win more individual battles.”

Pass on Gruden. The track record of coaches returning to their former teams is abysmal, and Gruden’s record in Tampa Bay after his first year defined “mediocre.”
    _____________________
my first choice is david shaw if he’d do it, guy is getting the most out of his talent, learned under Harbaugh, runs a smashmouth physical style, and has raider ties. Gruden would be 2nd because he’s been away from the game for so long but who cares what the track record is of coaches coming back? If a coach is a good coach, he’s a good coach. It can be argued how good a coach Gruden is, but he always had Tampa competetive without ever having a good qb and we saw what he did here

The track record of coaches returning to their former teams is abysmal,

    ——————————————————————————

    True.

But in this case, I could understand the Davis’ doing it to sell out the stadium. You know how many Raider fans LOVE Gruden????

  • http://raiders.com Seymour Bush

Jesus H. Christ! Reggie shouldn’t have picked the coach. We should start Pryor. Hue Jackson. Do you know how stupid you idiots sound? lst off, of course the GM picks the head coach. It happens 100% of the time. What else were we going to do? Have some 8 year old pull a name out of a Raider lid at one of the Raider Image stores and go with that?

Do you know the number one best friend of a QB? Its called a running game. Yet you morons want to put in a journeyman guy who has never taken a snap out there with absolutely no running game, “just to see what he’s got”. I can tell you what he’s got with no running game: nothing.

Then there is Hue Jackson. Who got demoted. In Cincy. Idiots.

“It will be in the best interest of the franchise if Davis simply allows his general manager and coach to grow. They are both first-timers in their positions. I suspect that’s what will happen, and I think it’s unlikely Davis will make changes there. But what if the losing continues in the final weeks of the season?

Exactly what kind of progress is Davis looking for? Will going 2-4 the rest of the way constitute progress? What if Oakland beats Cleveland and Kansas City at home but gets trounced in the other four games? Is that progress? “

Davis and McK made an overzealous stupid decision to get rid of Hue Jackson after only one season and not allowing him to hire his own DC.

Now the team is set back for at least 3 more years.

don’t understand how everyone hated hue and wanted him fired for “throwing the players under the bus” after the last game even though he went 8-8 with a roster you all think is devoid of talent and with an incompetent DC he didn’t want in Bresnahan. But with Reggie here and his supposed eye for talent DA gets a pass for throwing the team under the bus halfway through the season while he’s getting blown out every week and this team is nowhere near where hue had it.
    _______________
i think a coach should always put it on himself even if he knows his players failed him because for some reason they didn’t play to their capabilites so you gotta assess what you did wrong plus it could be like “don’t fire me, it wasn’t my faul.” but he get’s a pass, they guy was an ozzie guillen type as far as being passionate and having loose lips. end of the day hue got the most our of the talent we had. look what he did for dmac/bush, jc, reece, dhb, moore, our oline. too bad our d was horrible

“The new regime could have had the best of both worlds; they could have fired Hue but kept the offense in tact via Al Saunders. They blew that big time and it’s lead to way bigger problems for them now.”

This was my first negative reaction to the new regime….this was the first warning signal that we were in for a long season or a rebuild.

Thee new regime should have immediately realized that the strength on this team was the O-Line and the running game….find a way to keep that in tact and build around that.

That led to letting Satele go and thinking that Wiz could easily replace him at center and the line would be the same.

Then they brought in Bergstrom and paid him a ton of cash to be the stinker of the year thus far! This guy was “SUPPOSED” to be good!

Then the last thing that happened surprised us all was that Barnes was a decent RT with him gone we are now seeing that.

All of those things combined dismantled our strength over the last few years (running game) and what brought us to 8-8…. bringing us to where we are today which is 3-7.

RM and DA I hope you learned something from this because you are upsetting some long time fans with this regression.

If you ask me who is responsible for players not playing hard…

Front office and the coaching staff!

Don’t draft lazy players….don’t pick up check cahsers in free agency…don’t let lazy players start or see the field if they are not giving 100% on every play.

Now the problem we have is if we sat every lazy player on our team we would be left with a team full of 3rd stringers and practice squad players.

That being said its going to take a year or 2 to get the right kind of players here.

We benched 55 and the defense has gone to historic lows.

That’s not to say he’s good.

But he was certainly better than the guy who replaced him based on the results on the field.

666 is right. How can we bench anyone with this extreme lack of depth?

Remaining possible wins: Browns, Chiefs, Panthers, and Chargers

If the difference between picking 3rd and 9th is all the difference in the world to just tank games, then we are completely doomed to begin with.

Got to finish with some momentum, try to win games to properly evaluate players (you can’t adequately asses players when we are getting housed by 4 TD’s and the other team is taking it easy on you).

If you can’t build a good draft picking 10th, and you HAVE TO pick in the top 3, well…..you will be the Chiefs. They have had top 3 picks, multiple times, and will have another one here next season.

    Awful. Just awful.

I just read this Williamson column as well. It was terrible. He celebrates the “Raiders finally operating like a real sports franchise.” What does that even mean? Forget that we’re 3-7 and got our doors blown off three weeks in a row, we hired a general manager rather than having an owner-GM. Yee-hah!!! How amazing! We’re a “REAL” organization now. Just like Jacksonville, Buffalo, KC and Cleveland. Hooray for that.

I’m convinced. Let’s give Dennis Allen a 100-year contract extension. Forget results and track record. Stability is all that matters.

    What a joke.

I wholeheartedly do not believe under ANY SCENARIO losing makes you better.

Maybe, just maybe, if you are talking about picking between #1 or #2 for a sure-fire QB prospect, than maybe.

But tanking to draft an edge pass rusher? Please, he could end up being Andre Wadsworth, Courtney Brown or Vernon Gholston.

I want Te’o or Jones in a Raider uniform next year.

I don’t care that Te’o is not a pure pass rusher type, he can do it all!

  • Just Fire Baby

Jax and KC both have one win, and we beat them already. They would have to finish with a better record than us for us to pick ahead of them (not happening).

Same with Clev and Car. They each have two wins, and if we beat one of them, we would have 4 wins, so they would have to finish winning 3 of their last 5 while we lose every other game, to draft ahead of them.

Neither scenario likely at all. We will be picking in the 7 to 12 range. And I am liking this Barr kid from UCLA. Jason Taylor, JPP type athlete and edge rusher.
