Alot of guys here are salivating at the chance to hammer Palmer cuz it looks good for their cause, knowing the chances of winning today are so slim.

If this looked like a game we would win, everyone would be downplaying the Palmer factor.

Season stats can be a bit misleading but the Giants D was 14 against the run so not many teams had a rushing ADVANTAGE over the Giants. Last years Super Bowl the ground games were even and the Giants had a better pass rush resulting in a close victory.
My point is that if you establish control and gain the ADVANTAGE on the ground you will win the majority of your games.

But the Giants last year were dead last in rushing. They had the lowest YPC of any team in 3 years.

I agree wholeheartedly with your take on the D-line. But the reason the D-line is so important, is because it is the ONLY way to contain a Saints, Pats passing game. You can’t stop them this day and age.

The Giants do that better than anyone with their D-line.

The game has utilized passing as a form of ball control since the advent of the west coast offense.
I get that. It also sells tickets and entertains the average fan. I get that as well.

The teams that win championships run and stop the run. Period. End of story. Teams that have to rely on the pass A DISPROPORTIONATE AMOUNT OF TIME EVENTUALLY FAIL BECAUSE THEY CAN NOT CONTROL THE BALL.The Patriots are a classic example of this the last several seasons.

The old Raiders ran the ball keeping the other teams offense off the field regardless of how many were in the box.
They controled the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball.

The Pats, Saints and Falcons win by slinging it around the field. Hell, WE pushed around the Falcons a few weeks ago at the LOS.

If you ever needed a clear cut example of how the Raiders used to play and how you must win in football, all you needed to do is watch Notre Dame last night.

Ran the ball with SC using 7-8 in the box.
Got great penetration from their dline on the run and were able to pressure the QB with 3 and 4.
Sure Riddick had a nice spin move but the skill players were made to look good by the Oline, not the other way around.

That is how you win football games at any level. ON THE LINE OF SCRIMMAGE.

I have been trying to tell people on this blog that this is not a standard “change a coach and staff” makeover.

This is a complete cutural and administrative overhaul without the benefit of a full set of draft picks and ridiculous contracts like that of Seymour and Kelly.

This is a minimum 3 year project but could be 4-5.

If we get lucky with later round picks the time frame shortens assuming we nail our first and second rounders. Free agents will be used sparingly because of production rarely being commensurate with compensation.
