Tweets: McClain leaving Oakland

Someone named Jim Morris apparently spoke with Raiders middle linebacker Rolando McClain on Wednesday and was told by McClain that he “will weigh options” after leaving Oakland.
As of now, McClain remains on the Raiders 53-man roster and their starting middle linebacker. However, his status is up in the air after he missed practice today for what coach Dennis Allen called “team-related issues.”
A sports anchor in Birmingham Tweeted the following:
“Former Bama LB Rolando McClain no longer with OAK. He writes: I’m gonna weigh my options. Looking forward to playing for an actual ‘team.’ ”
Two sources within the Raiders said McClain has not been waived but that it remains a distinct possibility. The deadline for submitting waivers today already passed.
McClain was Oakland’s first-round pick in 2010, the No. 8 overall selection, out of Alabama. He started from the outset but has failed to live up to the lofty expectations of a player so highly regarded coming out of college, where he was a standout for the Crimson Tide.
Coach Dennis Allen demoted McClain from an every-down player to someone that played only in the base package. Rookie Miles Burris supplanted McClain whenever the Raiders went to their nickel package.
Just recently, McClain supposedly put this on his Facebook page.
“Officially no longer an Oakland Raider!!”
Followed by:
“Well technically I am. But I’m mentally done. Just waiting on my papers”
And: “I’d like to be anywhere besides here.”
McClain is earning $970,000 this season in base salary. He is slated to make $4,005,000 in 2013, $4,805,000 in 2014 and $2,665,000 in 2015.

I’m encouraged they at least tried to make the team better by at least going through the motions of putting in a claim.

Although it may have been just for show and figured they wouldn’t get him anyway.

After DA publicly stated “We don’t have pass rushers” I think they had to at least pretend they were willing to address it.

I stated the above a couple hr’s ago.

Now I don’t feel so good.

They didn’t see a need for this guy? At only 1.6 mill. and a chance to lock him up for next yr.?

18 sacks last yr. and more than ANY Raider this yr….on an off yr.

Post 102, it is what it is… he saying at thise point it doesn’t even matter anymore. All is lost, theres no hope in getting frustrated anymore, all thats gone wrong he’s numb to the ineptitude of this football team. You know he’s upset about the team releasing ro because that’s his teamate they’re like brothers. Trust and believe we will get creamed Sunday because the team morale is already shot this was the final blow they’re gonna lay down. The chemistry of the team is all messed up, DA is gonna have to release the entire team if he wants players to play for him.

  • CJ Legend 34

The one thing I will say about DA is there were a number of good coaches and teams who said DA was the real deal and up and coming. This is a young coach it is going to take some time. Not to mention the right players in the right system.

We need some cap space to bring in some good players through the draft and free agency to fit the system.

Now you’re seeing the result of a team stocked with Al Davis scholarship guys. With no owner left to coddle them all the time, they show their true colors.

Let the long-awaited muthafuggin housecleaning BEGIN!!!

    117.

Boothe, Tollefson, Woodson (not cut but ram out of town), I think Stevie Brown got one last year

Another fantastic Al Davis draft selection.

Who would have though that after Jamarcus’ crap 3 years, that Al would top it later with a guy who gave us 2.75 years?

    Rolando was a total nerd

Glad he packed up, now if only we can trade for Tyler Brayton to fill his spot

Speaking of my huge ding-dong – “The Beeeech Lawg” – been greasing up the ‘ol boy for a nice snooze in my tanning bed

Hopefully he’ll come out fresh as a deep fried Twinkie

Maybe Hue was too busy being a 1st yr. HC to be the genius GM he was supposed to be.

18 sacks is more than our entire team will have this year..the worst thing about it is babin 5 million non guaranteed contract next year would either be a bargain for a top flight pass rusher OR trade bait for draft picks..this is a big miss by reggie..i know we wouldnt have got him, but this is scary that reggie would pass on a no brainer like this if he had the chance

  • Just Fire Baby

I hope the Bay Area media (will there be national media and Reggie’s presser???) ask him as a former player, what he thought of players leaving the bench to fight down 3 TD’s.

    Curious to know.

  • RaidersAllday_LtsGeTit

Reggie has a 5 year plan to get the Raiders back to 8-8

Hue made a terrible decision to not punish McClain for his antics in Alabama. He sent him home to attend a funeral, and the bum ends up in a fight (at the least) on a Wednesday. Hue is not a leader, in any sense of the word.

  • J Hill

    55 was terrible?

Ok so the defense is FAR worse since we changed QBs, so to speak.

    Is Gio getting cut too?

    Knapp, Brisel, or any WR?

Cutting backup LBs is the answer????

    LMFAO!

Be fair man. He’s only averaging a bit over 1 per game and the one last wk. bounced off Reeces hands, and another one doinked off Myers’ hands in the endzone the prior week and another one….suffice to say that has been a recurring theme.

DON’T CUT HIM………..KEEP HIM LONG ENOUGH TO WORK A TRADE FOR DRAFT PICK /S OR ANOTHER PLAYER. TRADE HIM TO PHILLY STRAIGHT UP FOR ASO

  • CJ Legend 34

This is exactly what teams do when things go south and they have players taking up cap space and producing nothing. WHo cares what happens the rest of the year. Wake up! This team sucks! Starting cutting the dead weight and get ready for next year.

Cut this team until it hurts and cut some more.

  • Just Fire Baby

These southern cats sure don’t acclimate to the Bay Area too well do they?

What do u say in defense of Reggie and DA then? They had ALL the information of what happened down there and yet they STILL made him the captain of the defense.

  • The Mack

McClain just needed to be motivated,he obviously didn’t believe in DA, hard to play hard when you know the head coach is full of $#!+. Cutting #1 draft picks isnt how you motivate a team, all it does is ruin morale or encourages them to play scared. And the fact that guys are happy and not embarrassed about being released says a lot about the people in that building.

    =============================================

Charles Woodson was not run out of town. He engineered his own exit. Al franchised him twice: the first time, he refused to sign the tender until the day before the seasons started. The second year, he signed the tender immediately when it was offered, thus putting us $8 million or so over the cap (he was trying to force a trade). He wanted to leave.

DA quit on him? Slo was not producing. I would hope a coach is going get someone out who is not making plays. Imagine watching those film sessions with Slo loafing in pursuit. I want a Ray Lewis type leading the D, not some petulant slacker who doesn’t make plays.

I think you have to cut Taiwan Jones too…I mean, well who knows what he can do. We never play the kid!!! That is what I don’t get. Playing now, if he fumbles the rock so what! Season is over!
