Tweets: McClain leaving Oakland

By Steve Corkran
Wednesday, November 28th, 2012 at 3:05 pm in Oakland Raiders.

Someone named Jim Morris apparently spoke with Raiders middle linebacker Rolando McClain on Wednesday and was told by McClain that he “will weigh options” after leaving Oakland.
As of now, McClain remains on the Raiders 53-man roster and their starting middle linebacker. However, his status is up in the air after he missed practice today for what coach Dennis Allen called “team-related issues.”
A sports anchor in Birmingham Tweeted the following:
“Former Bama LB Rolando McClain no longer with OAK. He writes: I’m gonna weigh my options. Looking forward to playing for an actual ‘team.’ ”
Two sources within the Raiders said McClain has not been waived but that it remains a distinct possibility. The deadline for submitting waivers today already passed.
McClain was Oakland’s first-round pick in 2010, the No. 8 overall selection, out of Alabama. He started from the outset but has failed to live up to the lofty expectations of a player so highly regarded coming out of college, where he was a standout for the Crimson Tide.
Coach Dennis Allen demoted McClain from an every-down player to someone that played only in the base package. Rookie Miles Burris supplanted McClain whenever the Raiders went to their nickel package.
Just recently, McClain supposedly put this on his Facebook page.
“Officially no longer an Oakland Raider!!”
Followed by:
“Well technically I am. But I’m mentally done. Just waiting on my papers”
And: “I’d like to be anywhere besides here.”
McClain is earning $970,000 this season in base salary. He is slated to make $4,005,000 in 2013, $4,805,000 in 2014 and $2,665,000 in 2015.

I wouldnt be surprised if half the team has mailed it in. That would at least explain the half hearted/motivation efforts these past few weeks.

    Will it get worse?

    ===========================================

Wouldn’t surprise if they DID mail it in. So keep the cutting the check-cashers, and leave the hungry young players (even if they aren’t as good right now as the guys they’re replacing). Kelly should go next, followed by Seymour.

Should put in disclaimer: “If owner feels pressure to validate his draft choice, regardless of how player practices, owner will demand he start.”
    =============

exactly mac20/mr which ever one you are.

owners will almost always want to see their draft picks play

They own the team it is their right to do so.

    happens all of the time

point remains that many players /qbs struggle in practice and still start

    mark sanchez anyone?

Now that I’ve slapped your inept ass to the ground, left you whimpering, now all of a sudden you want to claim “whoever you are”?
You’re my biich, which is obvious to all, especially you.

Pretty common when someone gets a beatdown from numerous posters, claiming they are one and the same.
They hate to accept the fact they’re an ahole, by everyone’s opinion, and saying one person owns them is better than saying everyone pretty much has their way with you.

BTW, thanks for repeating what I said.
You have the parrot bit down, to a T.

Where did the Ted Hendricks, the John Vellas, the Otis Sistrunks, the Howie Longs, the Matuszaks, the Willie Browns, the Lester Hayes go? Why can’t we find players that play effin’ defense?

    Our defense just got better.

Man I am sitting here thinking besides a kicker, and a punter. What other positive things does this team have going for it?

Yes Palmer has shown he has a big arm in this league but he can also make some big errors in judgement during key times in games.

Anyone else want to think of what this team does have going for it?

  • http://www.GodIsImaginary.com RaiderDuck

As for RoMac being some uncoached gem: remember that between DCs Marshall, Bres, and Tarver and LB coaches Haluchak, Biekert and Holland, that’s SIX different guys who tried to pull a decent week-to-week effort out of him. All failed. Who’s the one consistent? #55.

  • Dan78

Please add Kelly, Seymour, and Francis to the cut list.

  • javier

I can’t wait for the Knapp tweet and facebook postings that might say something like this:

“I want to thank Dennis Allen for the opportunity in Oakland, Good Luck!”

That’s the one I’m waiting for!

  • YoungAmerican

It’s hilarious how many people are up in arms with this team cutting ties with all these clearly indispensable players from an 8-8 season. They’d rather have one more 8-8 season rather than this team start rebuilding so they can be sustainable long-term – not just an average team with highly paid average talent flying by the seat of their pants on a year-to-year basis.

    ——————————————-
No doubt, you have to block. You think that is the reason he is not out there?

  • MarcusAllen

They got rid of me now cause his knees r like Curry’s:

Rolando McClain looked a little slow his rookie season and took off a little extra weight last summer. The middle linebacker played better last season (he had three sacks the last four weeks of the season) but still was not the impact player Al Davis envisioned when he made him the No. 8 overall pick in 2010. McClain would sometimes get lost in traffic or hit the wrong gap, resulting in long runs, or be taken advantage of in open space.

Here is a possible reason. McClain said his knee was killing him.

McClain underwent stem-cell therapy to address chronic pain in his knee and ankle this offseason.

“I’ve been having two seasons of nagging pain in my knee,” McClain told the Birmingham Press-Register.

He now “feels a lot better.” A radiologist in Gulf Shores injected fat cells from other parts of McClain’s body into the knee and the area of a previous high ankle sprain. McClain is now working out four days per week, and says he’s able to sprint “with hardly any pain at all. Except during games when the pain comes from viewing the score.”

  • Ghosttoothepost

Because I like watching you squirm, Mistic, why don’t you explain to all the benefits someone would have in embarrassing you using different handles?

    There is none, you fool.

Stupid to state anyone would school you, then change handles to school you again. Now, I can see why YOU post under different handles. (yes, everyone knows how, all of a sudden, mysterious names pop up, during your posting, to prop your posts, and just your posts, ) You do it as backup.
You don’t see anyone saying “Oh hey, Ghost, I agree with you” nor do you see me quoting others, saying “That’s why I’ve been tellig mistic.”

Ok, given that, let’s hear your version.
Should be good for a laugh :)

  • DJ Johnny

What’s funny is, if this McClain thing was happening in Philly, Dallas, New Eng.,Denver, SD, Pitt, Jets, NYG,…heck ANY other team this would be a top story.

I wonder if NFLN will even give this a mention.

  • J Hill

McClain just needed to be motivated,he obviously didn’t believe in DA, hard to play hard when you know the head coach is full of $#!+. Cutting #1 draft picks isnt how you motivate a team, all it does is ruin morale or encourages them to play scared. And the fact that guys are happy and not embarrassed about being released says a lot about the people in that building.

    ———————————————————————————

You make a lot of sense.

I was just thinking what players around the league think about the players getting cut like this? Lee, Curry, and now 55, lol. With players who are worse that then taking their spots.

Ride out the season, make your changes then.

The message is clear: produce on the field or you’re gone. That’s a message that some of these players have gone their entire career thus far without hearing. Gone are the days where players are protected from accountability by the organization.

  • Raider Riff

    Good riddance.

I wanted McClain to succeed. I rooted for the guy. But he’s a bum. He gave up on us a long time ago.

He’s a bigger bust than Jamarcus if you ask me.

In fact, the moment Rolando got here and realized what a pile of crap D system we were running, he checked out. It’s Randy Moss syndrom. So used to winning that they cant handle any adversity that seems hopeless.

And for that, I’d be all supportive of Rolando in this case but except for the simple fact that this year we are running a modern defensive system and we are still seeing the same mistakes and lack of passion out of the kid.

Im glad he’s gone. Dont stop now DA, get rid of all the other cancers while youre at it.

The days of continually blaming the coaching staff for our players ineptitude are finally over. It’s the guys on the field, who are actually PAID TO PLAY, that have to be held accountable now. It is so refreshing.

I dont expect most Raider fans to know what this feels like or how good it is for this franchise moving forward.

I was thinking the same thing. You look at the guys doing well: Eric Weddle is from Utah, Palmer is USC, Von Miller is Texas A&M, Alex Smith is Utah, Kaepernick is Nevada, Dashon Goldston is Washington, Craptree is Texas Tech, Marshawn Lynch is Cal, Brandon Mebane is Cal, Brandon Browner is Oregon State, Sherman is Stanford, Earl Thomas is Texas. Teams in the west seem to do best with players from the west. Maybe at least in the first few rounds we should look in our own backyards.

I hear you J Hill but how many players are cut in the NFL because they are having a dominant year? If anything they leave a team because their value demands more than what a team can pay them.

You can’t reward mediocre play! Teams like New England never do that!

  • YoungAmerican

The guys defending Rolando McClain are defending a guy who may very well have skipped a meeting earlier today, according to some reports.

New regime had no reason to give him another shot, but they did. No improvement from McClain, a possible return to his knucklehead ways, and now all of a sudden it’s a tragedy that he’s gone.

I wanted the Raiders to draft McClain, but there’s no getting around how much of a disappointment he’s been.

Oh, so you want them to suit up?

Or are you saying they need to produce better plays and schemes? Its kinda hard to do that when your receivers routinely let balls pop off their hands that end up INTs.

We cannot even do the basic stuff right and you want to blame the coaches?

Its easy to see when a player isnt trying or cant execute basic stuff. But for you to critique a coach from your couch shows what a stupid piece of sh!t you are. You arent qualified to judge coaching so please do yourself a favor and STFU.

It is. But coaches are brought in to help build a long-term vision. Allen won’t get canned until it’s clear that he’s not delivering on that vision. Without a real crack at the draft and free agency, there’s very little you can tell about what a coach can do.
