Tweets: McClain leaving Oakland

Someone named Jim Morris apparently spoke with Raiders middle linebacker Rolando McClain on Wednesday and was told by McClain that he “will weigh options” after leaving Oakland.
As of now, McClain remains on the Raiders 53-man roster and their starting middle linebacker. However, his status is up in the air after he missed practice today for what coach Dennis Allen called “team-related issues.”
A sports anchor in Birmingham Tweeted the following:
“Former Bama LB Rolando McClain no longer with OAK. He writes: I’m gonna weigh my options. Looking forward to playing for an actual ‘team.’ ”
Two sources within the Raiders said McClain has not been waived but that it remains a distinct possibility. The deadline for submitting waivers today already passed.
McClain was Oakland’s first-round pick in 2010, the No. 8 overall selection, out of Alabama. He started from the outset but has failed to live up to the lofty expectations of a player so highly regarded coming out of college, where he was a standout for the Crimson Tide.
Coach Dennis Allen demoted McClain from an every-down player to someone that played only in the base package. Rookie Miles Burris supplanted McClain whenever the Raiders went to their nickel package.
Just recently, McClain supposedly put this on his Facebook page.
“Officially no longer an Oakland Raider!!”
Followed by:
“Well technically I am. But I’m mentally done. Just waiting on my papers”
And: “I’d like to be anywhere besides here.”
McClain is earning $970,000 this season in base salary. He is slated to make $4,005,000 in 2013, $4,805,000 in 2014 and $2,665,000 in 2015.

I feel bad for the fans who bought into the #55 mystique and purchased a #55 jersey. They will probably be part of a $2 fire sale like JaLoser’s jersey currently is. We maybe should dedicate a section of O.co to fans with inappropriate obsolete jersys like JaLoser, McCheese, Porter, Brooks, Moss, etc.

The message is clear: produce on the field or you’re gone. That’s a message that some of these players have gone their entire career thus far without hearing.
    ========================================
I think you are exactly right.
    ———

It should be the same standard for the Coaches.

    ——

Oh, so you want them to suit up?

Or are you saying they need to produce better plays and schemes? Its kinda hard to do that when your receivers routinely let balls pop off their hands that end up INTs.

We cannot even do the basic stuff right and you want to blame the coaches?

Its easy to see when a player isnt trying or cant execute basic stuff. But for you to critique a coach from your couch shows what a stupid piece of sh!t you are. You arent qualified to judge coaching so please do yourself a favor and STFU.

He disses the Oakland Raiders on twitter and facebook and, at 3:55 p.m., the facebook thread disappears.

McClain burned his bridges in Oakland. And like Adam Caplan said on his twitter: “For as bad as JaMarcus Russell was, he never burned his bridges in Oakland.”

Friday’s presser with McKenzie will be a fun watch.

Veldheer, Carlisle, Wiz, Barnes. In case you can’t count, That’s 4 out of 5

Wiz was the center for several games.

I mentioned that first play of the game defensively of the Bengals game earlier this week, but now you have to question it even further.

First play, right before the snap, McClain points Wheeler one way, Wheeler runs the opposite way, right into McClain. The play went exactly where McCLain was pointing.

Did defensive players and teammates tune out Rolando? Did Rolando take that slight and go ape this week?

Why all of the uproar over romac?

how much talent he has is debatable, but he certainly didnt make a positive impact as our mlb in the 4-3.

Was he miscast? possibly, that woud be the fault of the coaches.

did Davis whiff on the pick? possibly but it was the right risk to take, he was rated as the best line backer and we needed to stop the run up the middle. there was no way of knowing he would be looking up at captain kirk.

Did he dog it and lack effort or have character issues?

Well we did see him jogging and who could forget his arrest picture and you tube video. Clearly a troubled young man.

Will he be able to salvage his career at the least on a another team? Remains to be seen but he clearly was not going to fit here and never became the leader or the player we hoped for.

Just another bust in oakland, time to move on nothing to see here

  • YoungAmerican

Neither Jones nor Te’o are flawless prospects by any stretch. Te’o might be smarter than Rolando, but similarly will need to be kept away from blockers as much as possible. He’ll thrive if he goes to a defense that’s already pretty decent. He’ll struggle on a bad defense.

Jones has short arms and doesn’t have enough strength to shed offensive tackles. Isn’t the best athlete, either. Also has spinal stenosis which is very concerning for a player at that position.

For my money, give me Bjoern Werner, Dion Jordan, or Ziggy Ansah.

    Good point.

Also a good point: 6-foot-4, 255 pound McClain getting blown up by 5-11, 255 pound Chris Pressley on Benjarvis Green-Ellis’ career-long run.

McClain shot the gap only to get denied by a player who he should have manhandled, physically.
