McFadden practicing again, McClain still on roster

By Steve Corkran
Thursday, November 29th, 2012 at 11:42 am in Oakland Raiders.

Running back Darren McFadden is practicing today for the second straight day as he steams toward a return from a high-ankle sprain that sidelined him for three games.
McFadden is running around, making cuts, catching passes and looking like the McFadden we saw the first eight games of the season.
Coach Dennis Allen said he is hopeful of McFadden being in good enough condition to play Sunday against the Cleveland Browns.
At this point, there’s no indication that McFadden won’t be healed enough to resume the starting job.
Backup Mike Goodson also is at practice for a second straight day. Like McFadden, he is recovering from a high-ankle sprain.
McFadden is expected to speak with the media today and provide an update on how he feels.

– Middle linebacker Rolando McClain is not at practice today, but he is still on the 53-man roster.
For now, anyway. The Raiders have until 1 p.m. today to waive McClain for it to count in the view of the league office.
It’s also possible that the Raiders could suspend McClain for up to four games for conduct detrimental to the team. That would preclude the Raiders from having to pay McClain 1/17 of his $970,000 base salary for each game he is suspended.
We will know more once Allen speaks with the media around 1 p.m.

– Defensive tackle Richard Seymour (hamstring) and defensive end Jack Crawford (toe) are the only others players not at practice.
Seymour has missed the past three games. Crawford was out for last Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

– No word yet from the Raiders on whether they sold at least 85 percent of the tickets for Sunday’s game. That is the minimum required for the game to be televised locally.
All eight of Oakland’s regular-season home games in 2011 and the first five this season were televised locally.
If the Raiders reach that threshhold for the Browns game, then it’s safe to assume they will do so for the Broncos game Dec. 6 and the Chiefs game Dec. 16.

    why do players run thorugh brick walls for harbuagh?

    2 reasons

    1. he communicates and is direct

    2. he wins

    If a coach is struggling to win then he must rely on communication in order to get the players on his side.

    These are men and any man wants direct communication

    This Rolando thing is a diversionary tactic.

    Rolando should have been cut before the season started.

    Why now?

    Because fans and media are quickly realizing that the current regime is over it’s head.

    **********

    True.

    This takes a little bit of the bunsen burner off DA’s seat. For awhile. Buy’s him some time as the focus is now on a full on hatefest of Ro McClain. Diversionary tactic to get the focus away from DA’s lost clueless face.

    If we lose 5, 6 or more consecutive blowouts, there will be more sacrificial meat to be offered to save DA.

    Messing with a player is always a bad move from a GM perspective.

    Sends a bad vibe to potential free agents..

    To give McClain one final boot on his no-account hind end, I’d take that chance. Tell McClain he can have the money if he can produce evidence of that “dead grandfather” from last season.

    No and No

    The real reason they run thru wall for Harbaugh is that he makes them money. Bottom line.

    Players know Harbaugh puts his players in position to make plays. They make plays, they accumulate sacks. They get stats, they get money. Harbaugh offers them the easiest path to make big money. Hence they blow thru brick walls for him. Don’t be naive. It’s always all about the benjamins.

    Why not engage in direct conversation with pyor?
    ============================================

    Because the head coach does not engage 3rd stringers. ===========
    ===============

    you have missed the point and that is untrue.

    If a player has been inactive all season and the coach intends to place him on the active roster it usually involves a conversation.

    The players on the active roster DO need the game plan as there is a chance they will play. Im not saying allen has to have one on one film study with him. Yet the norm is the coach tells the player that he is going to activate what his role will be and what to prepare for.

    That is just basic and is common place in every nfl city

    looks like allen has communication issues with players
    ==============================================

    Honestly dude, that’s ridiculous. Why wouldn’t Knapp and DeFillipo tell him he is going to be active and begin going over the packages for him? If Allen is the one you suggest tell him, hell, why not have Reggie McKenzie bring him upstairs to his office and break the news? Or even better, hold a presser in front of the White House press corp? Or maybe even have a private jet pick Pryor up, whisk him 30,000 feet into the air and have the owners, GM and HC all tell him in a champagne celebration?

    Frankly, I think you have this mindset that Terrell Pryor is the next Joe Willie Namath and should be treated as such. Now eventually he might be, but right now, he is a 3rd string player that can’t get on the field. And that’s the way I see him.

    Keeping Seymour was definitely a bad move, but it underlined the fact that Reggie thought the team could be competitive this year…which is also completely wrong, at least with this offense.

    McClain is a typical arrogant jock. Arrogant jocks always think EVERYONE loves them because they’re athletes and they’re awesome. We, the little people, live to love them and worship them and (if we’re female) blow them and then leave. See also: Ryan Leaf, Steve Garvey, Rasheed Wallace, Isiah Thomas, etc, etc.

    Contrast that with normal jocks like Peyton Manning, who dined in that one steakhouse with Eli and Archie and left the waitress a 50% tip or somesuch (she was fired after tweeting a picture of it).

    Most of their best talent pre dated Singletary. Vernon Davis, Smith, Gore, Delanie Walker, Ray McDonald, Justin Smith was signed as a FA, Willis, and Goldston all pre dated Singletary. Singletary was involved in the Craptree and Oline draftees. Good for them. Their moves worked out. Ours haven’t.

    Eldridge Dickey (takes a black QB in the first round in 1968, then never plays him)
