Final: Browns 20, Raiders 17
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Sunday, December 2nd, 2012 at 4:28 pm in Oakland Raiders.
The Raiders problems have more to do with their play than the calendar.
Following a winless November, the Raiders fell 20-10 Sunday to the Cleveland Browns at O.co Coliseum in a battle between teams with identical 3-8 records and both desperate for a win.
The Raiders, 3-9, looked to be putting themselves in position for a chance to steal the game in the fourth quarter until Carson Palmer threw a deep sideline pass to Juron Criner that was intercepted by Sheldon Brown at the 6-yard line.
Oakland trailed 13-10 at the time and was coming off its best offensive and defensive sequence of the game, scoring on a 64-yard lightning bolt from Palmer to Rod Streater and then forcing a Browns punt at the 45-yard line.
The Raiders maneuvered to the Cleveland 33-yard line and had a first-and-10 when Palmer took a shot at Criner.
But instead of putting the ball high and toward the outside where only Criner could get it, Palmer’s pass was underthrown and to the inside, making it an easy interception for Brown with 9:31 remaining.
The Browns, 4-8, then took the ball at their own 6, got out of trouble with a third-and-3 pass from Brandon Weeden to Josh Gordon for 11 yards to the 24, and later had a 22-yard hookup from Weeden to tight end Benjamin Watson to the 46-yard line to kill precious time off the clock.
The Browns eventually finished off a 94-yard, 14-play drive with a 3-yard run by Trent Richardson with 3:27 left in the fourth quarter and consumed 6:04 in elapsed time.
The Raiders scored on a 17-yard pass from Palmer to tight end Brandon Myers with one second remaining. It was Myers’ 14th reception, tying Tim Brown for the franchise record for catches in a game.
For the Browns, it snapped a 12-game road losing streak that began last Oct. 16 wit a 24-17 loss to the Raiders at the Coliseum.
The 64-yard touchdown pass to Streater came after defensive tackle Desmond Bryant got his hand on a 28-yard Phil Dawson field goal attempt, redirecting it to miss to the left.
Dawson had field goals of 41 and 35 yards. Oakland only score other than the Streater touchdown was a 51-yard field goal by Sebastian Janikowski in the second quarter.
The Raiders’ problems giving up big plays on defense continued unabated, as Weeden completed 25 of 36 passes for 364 yards and a 44-yard touchdown to Josh Gordon. He had two interceptions, one by Matt Giordano and the other by Phillip Adams.
Running backs Darren McFadden and Mike Goodson each missed their fourth consecutive game after being declared inactive.
With a short week coming up and a Thursday night game at home against division-lading Denver, there is no guarantee they’ll be ready to play in the next game.
Quarterback Terrelle Pryor, who was active for the first time this season, did not get in the game for any specialty plays or packages.

It’s tough to win in the National Football League.
Especially with a team full of backup and practice squad players.

This team stinks. No matter who you choose to blame.
December 2nd, 2012 at 4:30 pm
Get this Dennis Allen guy out of here and he can take Knapp with him.
December 2nd, 2012 at 4:30 pm
This loss in on Palmer and Knapp. The Raiders should have been running the ball more in the second half. They had success in the first half.

DA is over his head. Ascent was too quick. We need a coach with intensity on the sideline during the games. His demeanor does not inspire. I didn’t think our D could be worse than last year… it is. This is what he should be ultimately judged upon. I don’t want him back next year. If he chose his assistant coaches, it was pitiful choices. Unexcusable in this age of NFL football. I didn’t expect a winner, but not this stinkfest.
I support Palmer, but he lost it with the INT. After Denver game, Pryor should start. They NEED to see what they have and what they may need to get next year.
Bronco game will be ugly.
—————————————————
These coaches are a joke. These players don’t care. They both are to blame for this garbage. We are going to get WAXED by the Broncos. DA shows little to no passion or intensity. His press conferences are about as entertaining and inspiring as watching paint dry. I’m not saying you have to be “rah rah” like Rex Ryan, but listening to him is painfully boring and flat. Can’t imagine the players get much more.
December 2nd, 2012 at 4:32 pm
This game is not an improvement. Still regressing. Almost 500 yards to a 3-8 toilet bowl qualifier. Biggest regression game yet cause we lost. Shoulda beat the team we’re supposed to beat.

Crux of the matter right here.
It takes the players AND coaches to lose like this. People pointing finger at just DA or Knapp or just a certain player or players are missing the point. Total failure from top to bottom.

Do they always blast “The Autumn Wind” after losses, or was that done today just to drown out the boos.
Either way, pretty pathetic and cheapening to blast our anthem after getting handled at home by a 3-8 Browns team.
December 2nd, 2012 at 4:33 pm
Palmer was awesome beside that pick, he should try to give his arm some rest after every 2nd or 3rd pass play, gotta believe he either threw that for a lob cuz Criner is tall or his arm was dead

Its pretty obvious that none of these guys are buying what DA is selling. The defense looked completely lost and out of place today. This was an even matchup on paper, but we had no game plan, and let CLE dictate the pace of the entire game. Even when it was close, the game never really felt in question.
Palmer throws 54 passes? Why? Is there a rule against running in the 4th quarter? I dont understand the way this team plays football. They have no identity and are just learning as they go along.

Just like DA himself has said: at this level, all of these guys are super talented athletes and expected to perform, whether they’re starters or backups. I’m not saying we have an all star roster, but at some point coaches need to man up and get these guys on the same page and motivated to play. If your team is this bad in every aspect of the game, you can’t put that all on the players. At some point the coaches need to take responsibility for this pile of crap product they are putting out there every sunday.

Hell, I dont know why you watch the game. The stat line is all you care about. You probably just watch the game from your cell phone.
————————–
I don’t think anyone is absolving the players or looking forward to seeing the same 53 out there next year, whether DA and company stay or go.
When the coaching staff is the only major change from 16-16 when we showed promise to 3-9 and looking like something between the Shell and Kiffin eras, the coaches are going to take a lot of heat.
It sounds like you take the opposite approach though and think the coaches don’t add or subtract anything from a team’s performance.
So why not just put a hat and sunglasses on a broomstick and trot that out there as the Raiders head coach and save a few mil in salary?

well, one pick is one pick and doesn’t matter if it cam in the 1st quarter or the last.
i’d say running 17 times and throwing 54 times might be a problem.
maybe his arm gets a little tired? whaddya think?
and maybe the defense drops 50 guys into coverage cuz they know it’s coming?
and as for game management, isn’t palmer listening to the coaches tell him what to do on the headset?
not palmer.

The problem with keeping DA is there is no optimism. He can’t continue in this direction. The scheme and philosophy has been wrong from the start. If DA wants to save is butt he should at least fire Knapp ASAP. If he does nothing he should be FIRED ASAP.

This is how the team responds when the owner says that he isnt happy with the coaching.
Time to bring in some big boy coaches that know what they want to do with a roster. DA and his whole staff are still in preseason mode.
9 losses in 12 games speaks for itself.
Giving up 500 yards to the Browns speaks for itself.
5 straight losses speak for themselves.
Teams averaging over 40 points against us in the previous 4 losses speaks for itself.
How much more time do these guys need?
Its a wrap for DA.

—————————————————
Debacle? Meltdown? Might wanna double check your wording next time. A team that has been ineptly awful for almost a decade, sans the previous year. A team who lost its starting QB and near league-leading rusher halfway through the season. A team that lost its #1 CB in the offseason, and had a very suspect defense. A team that hired a defensive coordinator that was a well-known joke. A team that had a chance to get in the playoffs in their last game for the first time in a long, long time.
Some of you fans either have really short memories, or somehow have a silver spoon lodged in your mouth. Somewhere you got the idea that a team with those qualifications was expected to make the playoffs. Or even come remotely close. If you guys need help analyzing the past 10 years, I’ll be glad to slowly walk through it with you, step by step.
Not sure why this is such a difficult concept to understand.
December 2nd, 2012 at 4:51 pm
Anytime an offense become one sided and predictable, you limit your ability to score…54 passes? That is a freakin EmbarASSment.
Not running the ball cause you’re down by 10 with a half to play, is a white flag that you cannot run the ball…so whose fault is it really?

Right on the money indeed. All QBs throw picks. Hell, Drew Brees threw 5 last week. Matt Ryan threw 3 against our horrible D. The thing is, those guys have a defense that can help out when they make mistakes. CP3 thorws a pick and our D lets the frickin browns march down the field, walk into the endzone untouched, and eat up a ton of clock while theyre at this. All the idiots in here want to blame CP3 for everything, but in case you have noticed, this is a team sport, and you need to be good in all 3 phases. CP3 can’t win the game all by himself. Maybe if we had a run game, or a D that could stop even a high school team, CP3 wouldnt need to force balls into bad coverage because he knows that’s the only way we’re going to move the ball. You are seriously ignorant if you blame the QB for everything in a team sport like this.

There are folks that will point to the INT and say that Carson lost the game for the Raiders on that one play.
Trouble is, there were at least ten critical plays on offense alone where Palmer did his job just fine and somebody else gacked it up. Those mistakes cost the team first downs and points.
I’m not even counting the defensive lapses here.
At this point, Palmer has to be nearly perfect for us to win. He isn’t, but he’s not the problem.

The same ones that tanked the season in the worst way and missed the playoffs.
——————————————————
How many games will they be missing the playoffs by this year?
—————-
You never answered my question. Who’s fault was it for last years debacle and meltdown?
The coaches or players?
—————-
Your making excuses.

If you’re an ugly 3-9 taking over for a team that was a competitive 8-8 for two seasons and start pointing fingers, I think you’re done.
If the score had been more lopsided, I think DA could be gone tonight. They’ll probably let him play out the string though. I think he’s gotta get at least two more wins to have any shot of keeping this job.

If it was Reggie’s decision and he sold Mark on it, anyone think Mark would hit the reset button and bring Hue back next year, basically just feeling that he’s correcting something he was talked into? I realize it’s far-fetched, but actually logical. Crazier things have happened.

Really? To me, that sounds like it was Reggie’s idea and the only reason Mark didn’t stick with Hue is that he thought we should’ve made the playoffs last year, not because of a postgame press conference or anything silly like that that fans have hypothesized, most of which has since been debunked.
However, the day of the announcement, Reggie and Hue’s agent said this was Mark’s decision. Steve Corkran has stated the same as well as some of the other reporters. So which is it?

Game would have been another blowout on DAs resume if Brandon Weeden didnt throw those picks. Browns controlled the entire game to the tune of 500 yards. We got our faces smashed, man to man, against the 4-8 Cleveland Browns. What does that make us? 3-9 with Peyton Manning and Denver coming to town. I can assure you that he wont make the same mistakes that Weeden made this week. We could be 3-10 by the end of this week.
Again, not a Hue supporter, but DA couldnt outcoach Tom Cable OR Hue Jackson.

OK enough lamenting about the loss,
Here are some positives we could take outta this game:
1. Streeter looks like he could ascend to #2 role next year, now we will just need to find a #1 Receiver
2. Run game looks good now, and could live with out a star running back
3. Houston is a beast, would look good rushing from DT spot
4. our Draft position improved, meaningless win would have only messed up the draft spot and we would have missed out on a future HOF Damontre Moore DE, and would have regretted it next year with same type of pass rush
–
1, I like Streater. Moore and Ford are small receivers. Streater has good hands, and height. Find a receiver in freen agency, not draft. Draft should be all defense.
2, I personally like what I have seen of #32 stewart, out of stanford. He has potential.
3, agree, Houston is a playmnaker.
4. Draft defense all the way, get depth.
—
Yep
1. Keep Palmer, get new RT and C, #1 WR and get new OC who wouldn’t abandon running game, Palmer’s total attempts should never exceed 35, it was obvious the arm was dead on the INT
2. Need beast pass rushers and beast secodary
2.

I wonder if firing Hue was really Reggie’s call, or Mark’s call.
————————
^^^^^^^^
We know it was about politics and we know that Davis forced McK to fire Hue.

Pryor won’t play Thursday. Knapp is trying his damnest to get Palmer over 4,000 yds passing so he can use that to save his job.
Case in point:
We have the ball on 15 yd line with 32 sec remaining. It’s 4th and 1. We need TD and FG any way you slice it. You kick the chip shot right then and there. and have 28 secs left for the onside kick.
Instead we go for it and gain 2 yds for the first down. Dy the time we get to line and snap it there are 14 secs left on the clock. After that play we are left with 6 secs. Then we throw the TD with 1 sec left on clock.
It was never about trying to win the game. If it was the FG would have happened.

20-10 against the browns with Weeden. That is also and organization which will likely lose its coach. But it’s coach had them ready to play and its coach was wise enough to map the plays (dumb them down) to the players.

All you Palmer guys always want to bring up his stats after the game and say he’s not the problem but when you throw a pick in the red zone down 3 points and then collect 100 yards and a TD when the game is basically over
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Just picked this Palmer bashing post, as good as anything. Yea, that was a terrible pass. I’ll put that pass 100% on Palmer. And I’ll put another scoring drive killed on Moore. And I’ll give another scoring drive killed on Bey. And oh, I would be nice if our defense could prevent a 94 yard, 6 minute plus drive in the fourth quarter. So yea, one or two bad passes out of 54. Sure. But it wasn’t in the red zone and there were TONS of contributors to today’s disaster. Blaming Palmer solely makes you look like a friggin moron. Find another team, I’m so sick of retarded fans of my team.
*********************************************
If you look at the post objectively, he is not saying it’s solely Palmers fault and NO ONE is saying that so if that is some sort of smoke screen …………stop it!
Everyone sees what’s happening. Palmer stacks up stats that don’t mean anything. He is PART of the problem…..period
>>>>
Who is pretending he isn’t? The reality is that Pryor isn’t the answer either. I still say f we give him a true number one receiver and a more robust line, he could lead us to the promised land.
If anyone thinks TP can do that… they are playing too much Madden.
December 2nd, 2012 at 5:37 pm
He would look alot better.. For one he get the ball out alot quicker.
His offense is well executed like a maching ..not a bad pickup game of football

3rd down drops can kill a team. It happened again today, but u said it yourself how OTHER teams can overcome one int. and we can’t.
Palmer has to play perfect. He doesn’t.
He has lost games before when he played nearly perfect

I think we can overcome ints. with the right type of leadership and and chemistry. This team is demoralized and i don’t think you understand what that means. When players have no faith in the leader they will ultimately undo it themselves because they don’t believe it’s going to get done…………period

Hue lovers, i get your upset, and if Reggie and DA keep there job to a certain extent you can feel robbed, But hope is around the corner. Hue Jackson will get the Cal job, in 9 months the University will agree to his demands to run the university, he then will seek political office and eventually run our country with “build a bully” as his slogan.

Reggie restructured Palmers salary in 2102- he makes 825,000 and next year he makes 15mil which i believe is 100% guaranteed. he isnt going anywhere and this is another example of Reggie not really rebuilding. throw in how Reggie handled Seymour and Branch and Reggie really hurt our team’s cap flexability next year. especially for a team that is rebuilding.

Man at this level this game is soo damn violent that if you’re total team isn’t all bought in on what they have to do. IT AINT GONNA WORK………period
When it comes to nut cutting time they will make mistakes everytime. The difference between wins and loses is minimal. The difference is CONFIDENCE and when you don’t have it and the other team does THEY WILL WIN damn near 100% of the time.
You cannot have players guessing what you want done and how to do it. They have to hav etoatl trust in the leader and their teammates if NOT forget it. It’s just too damn hard without those elements.
December 2nd, 2012 at 5:45 pm
These players are supposed to be professionals. Many are not playing that way – especially the WR’s! D-Wow has been downgraded to DMoore. DHB is a good #4 WR at best. We have no #1 or #2 WR. If the Patriots can run with dual TE’s and a slot receiver why aren’t we trying the same thing? Especially in view of our inability to catch the ball by the WR’s. Yes, Palmer made a dumb throw for an INT. Yes, it killed the momentum. It would not have come to that if the WR’s started catching the balls that are hitting them in the hands and if CP3 has more than 2 seconds to throw he ball. Just my opinion.
The season is over. Denver won the division & the playoffs are out of the question. Now is the time to hold tryouts for next year’s squad. The Denver defense will kill CP3 with our O-line & receivers. Put TP6 in there for the whole game. I don’t care if we win or not. Actually, I’d rather lose and improve our drafting position. Keep CP3 healthy because we may be trading him along with some others. It’s time to reload for next year. Let’s see who is worth keeping and go from there.

Truth is he hasnt reached his peak while guys like Stewart ceilings are real low, you guys are all ready to cream on yourselves on a couple good runs but Dmac has been great for years and he showed you what he was capable of last year. Only a fool would trade him for peanuts.

Dude just get over it, if we’re going with ZBS we can find our self a nice RB that will fit in fine with the scheme, A Foster was undrafted , top 5 RB in league, A Morris was also undrafted or late round picks , doing pretty well in washington, there are other guys who exceed in zbs and weren’t drafted really high

Sure, management and coaching has made plenty of mistakes. I never said I was happy about any of it. But only a complete moron would think that the best management abc coaching staffs in the history of the NFL could win more than 7 or 8 games w these check cashing bums. As of week 13
Philadelphia* 3-8
Oakland 3-9
Carolina 3-9
Jacksonville 2-10
Kansas City 2-10
—————————————————
I see Oak going 3-13, Eagles 3-13, KC going 4-12, Jags 4-12, Panthers 5-11.
So the raiders are going to either have the 1st or second pick in the draft and we all know that the rams were able to get 3 first round draft picks and a second rounder.

Plenty of over culprits, but when we need Carson the most, he comes up small.
How do you underthrow that on 1st and 10?
He’s like that pitcher that only hangs one curveball a game, only that is a 1-1 curveball to the cleanup hitter with 2 on.

Seems like a player issue to me.
Last TD of the game, they don’t even block Matt S and run it right at him.
What kind of DE doesn’t get blocked and still can’t get a hit on the RB?
These guys all stink. 80% of them.
December 2nd, 2012 at 6:04 pm
Been a Palmer fan in general, given the available options, but this one is on him. Without that pick, raiders win. 500 yards or not, browns only had 20 points. You can’t lose to the browns at home against 20. Drops, play calling we’re an issue, but Palmer three that pick at the worst time. Shades of Kerry Collins-always the pick at the worst possible time.

Still the same ol finger pointing at the coaches, who were ALWAYS guilty of letting Al down. But clearly, what we have on our hands now is a continuation of long standing problems with lack of discipline and lack of accountability, not to mention the thin talent on the roster. There are folks that will point to the INT and say that Carson lost the game for the Raiders on that one play.
Trouble is, there were at least ten critical plays on offense alone where Palmer did his job just fine and somebody else gacked it up. Those mistakes cost the team first downs and points. ============================
Typical, running to make excuses for your golden haired hero throwing yet another bone headed back breaking int. while trying to pad his career stats with TP suited up and ready to come save the day. DA and all of you have an agenda and it’s not hard to see what it is. Even that uncle ton Lorezo Neal gave the game ball to Myers! The trickinologists have all you cats snowed. I’m out. Peace.

A much better sell would be “Tune in and see exciting new QB Terrel Pryor start his first game”
The NFL needs to step in and so does Mark, for the simple fact that if they dont, nobody is going to watch the game.
But the reality is, with a short week, TP is not going to get any reps for this game.
TP at least makes this game worth watching or going too.

Loooooong time reader here, first time poster. But I’ve been around, behind the curtain to know a lot of you just from observing the comments. I have to say there’s a few of you who give football fans a bad name.(yes, I few of you are great Raider fans too, but you know who you are)For those of you idiots, not only do you know d1ck about football, but to blame the QB and OC for losing this game is simply ludicrous. Have you seen our defense? Have you seen players like T.Kelly, Shonasty and others standing around piles doing nothing? Have you seen who CP3 is throwing to? Have you seen our O-line? Did you watch any of the games so far? Or are you so caught up in yourselves? This team from top to bottom is atrocious. The head coach, his staff, have quite simply been outdone week in and week out. Interim head coaches have faired better results. The entire team is to blame. All of them. This team lacks NFL starting talent at every position on the roster aside from QB.(No, Pryor is not a starter dummy!) The exceptions CP3, Houston, Wheeler, Burris, Myers, Reece, Veldheer deserve to be here next year. The young guys from the most recent draft should be given a shot too. All the others can walk the plank! This team is a disgrace to the greatest fan base in the world! How can we be expected to support this team!?! If I keep watching them like this, soon they’ll be my least liked team, and I’ll be routing for them to jump ship to LA, so I can jump ship too! But if they do stay in the bay, they have got to fix this, and it starts from the top, and works right on down! There are no excuses!

DA the 3rd NFL suicide in three days.I hope!
December 2nd, 2012 at 6:24 pm
I thought the O-line played fairly well today. Not great, but not terrible.
They opened up enough holes to let our pathetic RB core rush for some decent yardage and average. Palmer had enough time to throw most plays.
I like Stewart as maybe a #2 RB, but pretty sad when he represents your “big-play” RB.

Once again, Carson Palmer reminds me of Charlie Brown (the peanuts character)! Once we have the momentum bam! another unforced interception by Palmer. That is the 3rd game he has personally has literally thrown away this year! He is supposed to be the “leader”, the “captain”, the “boss”, the CEO! He does lead but unfortunately he takes the path of least resistance-a loss! End of this draft pick-sucking-experiment. Palmer is a loser and losing follows him wherever he goes. Lets leave the “1st rd” out of it. A DECADE of wasted picks. Who do we have from the last 10 years? Lets start w janikowski and lechler. Nvm that we burned a 1st and 4th on those guys, when nobody burns picks on kickers and punters like that, but at least they panned out. Can’t argue that. But who else? Houston comes to mind, ok for a second a guess. Certainly better than our first that year, suspendo. Branch? Pass. Huff? Not as a number 1, might consider him a good 3rd or 4th rounder. Veldheer? Yea. McFadden? No way, maybe if he could stay healthy, but no. Reece? Did we even draft him? Probably, not sure tho. To lazy to look it up. Wiz? Last year yea. This year? Looking like yet another in a long line of raider busts. Bey? Nope. Not a number 1. Moore? Last year for sure, this year doesn’t even look like he was worth a 4th. Ford? Maybe, but maybe the best thing that could have happened to him was getting hurt.
So we have 3 receivers (4 if you count Myers), two lineman (pretty sure we didn’t draft Barnes or Carlisle, I could be wrong about one of them), 3 defensive lineman (only one any good), 2 linebackers (one may be good), 2 running backs and 2 secondary on our current team. So, out of 24 possible starters (including punter and kicker, which is giving Al a gift), we have 15 homegrown. If all 15 out of that 24 were awesome, that MIGHT be an acceptable number. But they aren’t. And it isn’t.
And btw, I think the jury is still out on all of 2012 as well. It would be nice to be able to say at least 1 or 2 were definite keepers by this point in the season. Not sure you can say that. So the trend continues perhaps.

Dennis Allen may not be great(I wouldn’t know because its not fair to judge him based on the hot, steamy pile of mess he got when he took this job) but until there is some real talent on this team no coach will win.
And don’t tell me sh!t about Hue… 8-8 is not winning either.

Things I learned from today’s game…
Dennis Allen doesn’t drop passes, but DHB, Moore, and others SURE DO!
Dennis Allen doesn’t throw INTs, but Palmer SURE DOES!
Dennis Allen doesn’t get blown off the line of scrimmage, but the Offensive Line SURE DOES!
Dennis Allen doesn’t leave players uncovered, miss tackles, get personal fouls, and various other stupid sh!t, but the Defense SURE DOES!
This team is a train wreck of 3rd string talent… horrible.

He is the Head Coach though, ne?

He is, and look for him to have a large hand in helping McKenzie identify the players that want to be here and do actually contribute and do their jobs, and clearing out the rest to replace them with players that actually care about what they’re doing out there and can execute a game plan.

I am tired of hearing crap about Palmer. The guy has played great. How many dropped passes or incorrect routes were there today? I am also tired of hearing the so called experts, King, Gannon etc suggest that the Raiders should move on without out him and go with a young guy. If you have a starting QB like Palmer, you can turn anything around in one year. Brady can’t move that well and he wins. We haven’t had a legit QB like Palmer since Jim Plunket.
Let’s face it the offense is ridiculous and predictable. And to make matters worse the coaching staff does not use the young talent. Try using split backs with Reece and McFadden. They are a lot better than C. Davis and Mark VanEagan. Flex one out run or pass based on defense. David Ausberry needs to play, maybe a two tight end look. Misdirection with receivers running and lining up in the backfield and playing screens. Power running with pulling lineman. The coaches do not want to play the fastest player on the team – T. Jones because of fumbling, let him fumble first then complain. I do like Stewart and he should remain. He is young and has good ball security, unlike Goodson.
The defense is plain bad. They need to move the ends around. Andre Carter is done. Bring on Crawford. They need a DT and a pass rusher at LB or DE. They are going to have to spend the money on a free safety. If they keep Wheeler they will need at least two more special LBs. Burris is good and Bartell is decent. Hanson is also good and needs to be resigned. It is time to part ways with Huff, Giradonno. Adams has looked good especially in bump-and-run, on the rare occasion that it is used.
Bottom Line we need Wade Phillips or a clone on D and Gruden back at the helm. But please it is time we appreciate Carson Palmer, I was a doubter last year, but he has been good on a team with no real number one receiver.

The Al Apologist in Chief, Father Pride & Poise, would have us believe that problems with the coaching, player morale, and leadership are new issues, and if you read between the lines what you get–unsurprisingly–is a justification for the player first atmosphere that Al enforced. Still the same ol finger pointing at the coaches, who were ALWAYS guilty of letting Al down. But clearly, what we have on our hands now is a continuation of long standing problems with lack of discipline and lack of accountability, not to mention the thin talent on the roster. Not that McKenzie gets off the hook for the debacle, but you got to remember that it took Al 13 years to win a Super Bowl.
————-
A decade of wasted 1st rd picks will do that to any franchise.
Thanks Al.
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Everything said in this thread is spot on. Overall, our players suck.
December 2nd, 2012 at 6:37 pm
This is obviously a lousy feeling but as RaiderRiff said; This is what you get with 10 years of horrible first and second round picks with very little focus on the line of scrimmage.
The good news is we continue to clean out the garbage (McClain will be gone after the season) and Reggie will build the team through the draft STARTING WITH BOTH LINES.
Yes we need help elsewhere but those of you old enough remember that the Raiders were built with high draft picks for the lines. Guys like 11th round Marv Hubbard simply pounded it behind first rounder Gene Upsahw and the other team did not get the ball. The other team usually tried to play catch up and we had guys like Keating and Davidson that could actually stop the run AND rush the passer.
Many keep saying that the game has changed. Tell that to Notre Dame.Win on the lines and you will win the game.

I am a season ticket holder. Today’s tickets are still in the packet they came in. Nobody was interested so there they sit, wasted $228.00. I am NOT going to purchase season tickets until this team can prove that they can compete for the division! Does anybody want to buy the Denver slaughtering Raiders tickets? I will let you know!

Tom Cable was an O-line coach; the On-line played good to great most of his tenure
Hue Jackson was an offensive coach; the offense played great 85% of the time
Dennis Allen is a defensive coach; the defense is among the worst in the league. Most points given up in a 4 game span since ‘67

You WANT to see 3-13.
Here’s to a successful 9-game IMPLOSION…
*************************
That ought to push season ticket sales for 2013. Will do wonders to sell jobs to new coaches and FA’s.
And no doubt will get the city to move on building a stadium.
=====
I live in Miami so I guess I should be more sensitive to the local stadium issue. To me I will admit, Oakland and LA are both ~2500mi away.
To your other points though, I don’t see it that way. Al is dead. We now pay the going price for coaches. Only 32 jobs there last time I checked. We have no issue here. Ditto for F/A. Players follow the $, nothing more or less. That said, I’d MUCH prefer see us rely more on our picks and less and less on crapshoot “free” (ha) agents. Rarely works. Best teams (GB, NYG,NE) build through the draft and LOW dollar street players. With the exception of Brees and a few select others, BIG dollar F/A are usually a big mistake. Then again, as a Raider fan I’m sure I don’t need to tell you about that…
Personally, I hope we trade what we can in January and February, and then trade down when it makes sense for the draft.
Sadly, I’ve seen all I need from DOA. I as hopeful in Septemeber. No more. He wasnt ready. Plain and simple. Shanahan 1989-esque. If they go 3-13 we don’t waste ANOTHER year since I really don’t think he is the answer.
9 game IMPLOSION will help move things along in that capacity and strengthen our 2013 draft.
Plus it will soften the pain of each loss we WILL be faced to endure.
Broncos will put up a 60 burger in 4 days. No doubt about it so get ready for it now.

Gannon hates the Raiders. It’s well documented. One thing he holds dear is having some Raider records. That’s why he’s so keen on getting Palmer out.
Believe me, it isn’t about concern for the Raiders and their future.
Peter King? He’s hated Palmer from Cincinnati days.
All the geniuses in here ignore a well rested defense giving up a 97 yd. drive in clutch time to the Cleveland freaking Browns.
Yes. Bad pick from Palmer, but people are blind to ignore the choke job from the defense.

Plank don’t even consider putting Wisniewski in with those scrubs; he was all rookie team, and has been solid (not spectacular), his first year and at center, with our regurgetated zone blocking scheme.

I could agree there easily, but he is by no means a world beater. I would prefer him at gaurd, not at center. I think Satele was just as good if not better.
