Halftime: Browns 10, Raiders 3

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Sunday, December 2nd, 2012 at 2:45 pm in Oakland Raiders.

Sebastian Janikowski’s 61-yard field goal attempt fell short at the gun as the Raiders went into halftime with a four-point deficit.

Cleveland had the lone touchdown of the game in the second quarter on a 44-yard pass from Brandon Weeden to Josh Gordon against Ron Bartell. Bartell was replaced after that play by Phillip Adams.

Remember when Reggie talking about players doing whatever they want and gap assignments? You just saw Kelly do what he was talking about.

    ———

Nobody will take notice of this. Not here at least.

They will blame DA and Knapp even. And Tarver. Anything but blaming Kelly.

Davis forcing McK to fire Hue was mistake #1.

Then McK hiring a young rookie head coach to replace a 1st year head coach in Hue was mistake #2.

Then DA decides to screw with the strength of the team and change O philosophy by a crappy OC like Knapp and Pollack to lead the change was mistake #3.

The young rookie head coach then makes another mistake by hiring an experienced DC in Tarver ahead of hiring an experienced DC. Mistake #4.

DA gets a D in his first year as head coach.

    Terrible

    “““““““““““““““““““
    Hell yeah, its time…

    ********************************************************

Oh yeah, right. We’re in the game (and probably should be winning), and you guys want to replace the starting QB with a guy that’s played exactly one snap in the NFL.

Do you people realize how important a win is to this team right now? SMH
    ———————————
No i dont know how important this game is. if we win, are we making the Playoffs, are we getting the Division title, are we S.B. champs? I dont understand, try explaining it to me. I been behind palmer and the Raiders, but IMO its time to check out the young players.

    ********************************************************

The players are frustrated and need a win in the worst way. They are playing hard. If they get a win today it will ease some of the tension and go a long way toward progress for the remainder of the year.

That’s why it’s more important to play for the win TODAY than see what your third-string QB looks like against a first string defense.

If we’re out of this (or any other) game, sure. But not now, when the TEAM needs the win as badly as they do.
    ———————————————–
I for one am tired of watching these same group of core players especially on D. Palmer will be fine on a team that is further than we are in our rebuild. if we are gonna lose by 40+ points a game, may as well do it with the young guys.

Haha .. yes riff in my rages ive said they cant coach.. but I’ve also said nap is a mediocre coach and just the wrong fit.. Obviously theyre in the NFL I just think theyre somewhat out classed by their peers and not the right fit for the team they’re taking over. with these coaches I forsaw a rebuild. And i told you week 1 my agenda with knap came from watching him coach in the past..

    ——-

    I wont disagree with that.

But if you think, from an Xs and Ox standpoint, that the coaches are that different from one another, I can tell you, you are wrong. Some are excellent play callers (Hue and Norv come to mind as two of the best in the league) but its not like the rest dont know what they are doing.

Way too much film is poured over for them to not know what they are doing come gameday.

As for Knapp in the past, he did fine when he had the talent in SF. Vick is a coach killer, ask Mora (in the Rose Bowl) and Andy Reid (best coach Phillys ever had). So if you want to use Knapps past as a barometer, youre not really honestly judging him because youre not giving those situations a full honest look.

    ———————————–

With all due respect, I think you’re missing the point.

Aside from poor play calling, it’s about getting your guys to execute in unison. For everybody to be on the same page and run like a fine-tuned machine. When pretty much everything is a discombobulated mess, from offense to defense to special teams, it reflects poorly on the leadership.

It’s also about devising schemes and calling plays that suit your players’ strengths. The talent has been misused all year and it’s a big part of the reason that SO MANY guys have regressed this year.

How do you explain 7-4 this time last year to 3-8 now?

Last time I looked we were down by 10 despite a significant amount of boneheaded plays by people not named Carson Palmer. Big difference.

  • RAIDERMAN99

    Question —

On the play that Palmer threw behind Criner – that posters here were debating whose fault it was –

    Was that a 3rd and 8 or 9 play ??

    ——-

There wasnt a debate. If there way, it was just an illustration of how little some here know.

And yeah, it was about that long to the first down.
    ==============================================
So in other words, people that say Criner should have stopped and sat in the open area – are supporting Krapp’s call to throw short of the sticks once again on 3rd and 8 – and settle for a 5 yard gain and then PUNT.

    Another BRILLIANT call by Krapp.

Yup, blame the players. They didn’t EXECUTE properly.

Criner should have settled into the open area and then get tackled short of the sticks.

That play call wasn’t getting the first even if it was executed properly.

Just freaking wonderful. It’s not an accident we can’t convert 3rd downs and it’s not all on the players.
