Coach Allen’s father passes away
By Steve Corkran
Tuesday, December 4th, 2012 at 10:15 am in Oakland Raiders.
Former NFL linebacker Grady Allen, the father of first-year Raiders head coach Dennis Allen, died from heart complications on Monday night.
The Raiders said that coach Allen will return to the Bay Area on Wednesday night and coach Oakland’s home game Thursday night against the Denver Broncos.
Raiders offensive coordinator Greg Knapp and defensive coordinator Jason Tarver have been put in charge of game preparations this week.
“The organization wishes to extend its most sincere condolences to coach and his entire family,” the Raiders said on their Twitter account.
Grady Allen, 66, played for the Atlanta Falcons from 1968-72.
The Raiders are 3-9 under coach Allen, who served as the Broncos’ defensive coordinator last season.

My thoughts a prayers go out to Coach Allan and his family. These are trying times and may the Lord be with you and yours.

Did the Raiders end Montana’s career? For some reason I remember him getting hurt against us his last season.
Sorry Manning…..
December 4th, 2012 at 10:17 am
You knew it was a bad omen when the Raiders preseason guide had pics of Mike Shanahan in it. That the org had gotten soft.
Now you have proof when you hear a Raider DC openly admit he can’t stop the hated rival Broncos QB.
Al must be turning over in his grave.
Again.

RIP Mr. Allen.

My condolences.

High draft picks!
December 4th, 2012 at 10:19 am
condolences to the Allen family.
that being said, what is Allen coming back to Oakland for in a time of grief? He’s not needed and his head isn’t right. He needs to stay in Tx.

A worthless win late in a year that was over 10 weeks ago does nothing but limit our ability to get the players we want in the draft.
Only time I care about a late season win in a year like this is when our draft position is already set.

Steve Corkran is the Jason Tarver of Raiders writers. When things are going wrong, he’s always the last to find out about it

RIP Grady Allen. Lived long enough to see his son be the head coach of one of the most storied franchises in all of sports. Despite the poor record im sure he was proud of what his son has accomplished while playing and coaching the game they both love

I’ve seen worthless late season wins save coaches who had no business being NFL head coaches….see Tampa Bay game and Tom Cable.
No thanks.
December 4th, 2012 at 10:22 am
Imagine the Thur. meeting with Knapp-Tarver-Allen.
Allen: Let’s go over the gameplan guys.
Tarver: I’ve tried and tried, but I am sorry to inform you that we cannot stop Peyton Manning.
Allen: Schit!
Knapp: I’m finally going to get more people involved and open up the playbook more since we’ll likely be trailing all game anyway.
Allen: Schat! WTF did I come back for this!
December 4th, 2012 at 10:23 am
LOL, this is the exact thing on Bill Williamson’s AFC West blog on ESPN…
December 4th, 2012 at 10:23 am
I would think the game would be fun now that there’s no pressure to win anymore.
=========
Something to be said about that. Some of the most dangerous teams out there are the ones that have zero pressure, and nothing to lose.
I remember a wrestling tourney in High school…I’d lost earlier and got eliminated from the championship match. Had to wrestle in a consolation round against this freak who was destroying everyone. I had no shot of beating this guy… But I said “Fu*k it, he’s getting everything I got cause I got nothing to lose.”
Lost by 1 point after 3 rounds. He needed help walking off the mat, and I was still hopping around and growling; wishing I had 1 more round. I felt fearless…

Last season the Vikings had a shot at one of the top two picks…..instead, they beat Washington and ended up with the #3 pick.
Was a late season victory over Washington that no one will remember in 6 months worth losing out on luck, RGII or the bounty of picks the Rams got for RGIII?
Pyrrhic victory.

Especially hated divisional rivals!
December 4th, 2012 at 10:42 am
You can be emotional or smart.
Emotional: I want to win every game
Smart: I want the best pick possible especially since I don’t have any impact players.
Be Real..
December 4th, 2012 at 10:42 am
The only way I’ll enjoy a Raiders win is, if Manning gets hit so hard that he has to carry his head (while in the helmet) to the sidelines=career ending
Both tackles get rolled up on and tear anything in their knees that ends in cl.
Champ Bailey gets shanked after deciding to do a Lambeau leap into the black hole after returning a Palmer pass in the 4th quarter for a TD.
Elway leans over his suite in Oakland and Al Davis ghost pushes him over to his untimely death.
Did I miss anything?
Bronc-Hoes 56
Raiders 16
December 4th, 2012 at 10:43 am
I need to get a few impact players, so I need high picks. We don’t have a 2nd?!?!
You Monkeys are mad!!
December 4th, 2012 at 10:43 am
You know what guys…it was luck (no pun intended) that got Indy that number 1 pick…
Didn’t they win the last 2 games of the season? Tied with the Rams?
December 4th, 2012 at 10:44 am
Suck for Luck!!!!
That’s was their slogan!
December 4th, 2012 at 10:45 am
Effing Colts?
Manning and Luck.
December 4th, 2012 at 10:45 am
LOL, I think ESPN probably made that up…
December 4th, 2012 at 10:47 am
They just need to be straight up with Players. Tell them to play as if their roster spot on another team depends on it. Same for the Coaches.
December 4th, 2012 at 10:56 am
Dakota and Raider O
You’re guys are right. Lets loose out the rest of the season to get a top 3 pick.
Any second comings of Luck or RG3? A Suh type impact player who going to command huge money?
Who’s out there thats going to make us a 8-4 by this time next year like the Detroit Lions are….Oh wait, Suh team that is only 4-8.
WE NEED PICKS and plenty of them.
December 4th, 2012 at 10:56 am
My condolences to Dennis Allen & his family…
December 4th, 2012 at 11:47 am
My sympathy to Dennis Allen and his family. What a lousy season this is turning out to be for Allen…and the Raiders.
December 4th, 2012 at 11:52 am
Best wishes to Dennis and his family.
I predict a Raider win this Thursday. I know it sounds crazy but I’ve a feeling we are going to give them a good kicking.
Go Raiders!
