Gruden had Bill Callahan as OL coach, where he worked wonders. He made those studs. Hell, he made Sims a legit starting LT. Gannon enjoyed Brady-like protection and they had a dominant running game.

When Callahan was promoted to OC he was still involved with the OL, but not to the extent he was able to be as the OL coach. That year the running game started to roll downhill.

When Callahan become HC, he was that much further away from his area of specialty and essentially the same OL personnel started looking more and more average.

I liked what Gruden brought in terms of fire and a front man for the team. His genius was to build a system that a very intelligent veteran like Gannon could run that maximized the impact of his mental game to stay one step ahead of the defense and hid the weakness of his arm. But that was predicated on having excellent blocking. That ultimately made Callahan the real secret to his success on O.

In any case, DA and his jerkoff staff needs to go, they are horrible and the nation and players need something to believe in moving forward. If we can’t get Gruden, bring in somebody with experience and a reputation that demands respect.

Agreed though that if Reggie is replaced without getting the CHANCE to do his thing (set up better scouts, not make bad trades, not blow 1st and 2nd round picks) that would be a bad omen for future ability to see long-term.

I’m assuming if Gruden comes, Reggie’s out. Because I can’t imagine Gruden working for a hands-on GM. Gruden left here in the first place because he wanted more control. So, if Reggie were to be out, that means Mark Davis gave McKenzie all of about 10 months before he gave up on him and threw him to the wolves. Should we expect him to be any more patient with Gruden? Man, was I naive about Mark. This apple did not fall far from the tree, after all.

This is the thing we should all be the most afraid of. Mark Davis knows nothing about football and has admitted as much publicly.

If he starts going all knee-jerk like the old man used to, we are in very serious trouble.
