Allen returns and is on practice field

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Wednesday, December 5th, 2012 at 11:39 am in Oakland Raiders.

Coach Dennis Allen returned from Texas and was on the practice field as the Raiders underwent final preparations Wednesday for their game against the Denver Broncos.

Allen addressed the team before practice and will be on the sidelines Thursday night. Allen’s father, Grady, died of heart failure at age 66 Tuesday morning.

The only player not practicing was defensive tackle Richard Seymour, who will be ruled out of his fifth straight game later Wednesday. Cornerback and punt return specialist Phillip Adams was cleared to practice after missing the previous day’s session with a concussion.

Neither Allen nor any players will be made available to the media Wednesday.

The roster spot has value. Ford does not

Have you see 31 run directly into the first guy wear the other color jersey at the 9 yard line repeatedly on KoR’s?

I have and it sucks. Problem is I have seen Ford on the field about 6 times in the last 2 years and that was even worse.

Picking up from the past story, I believe the GB connections would help promote a good constructive repoire between Gruden and Reggie. They both have a history together, both football people, etc. BRING BACK GRUDEN! The guy has been begging in different ways to be a part of us again and proved already what he can do. He KNOWS football AND can motivate. If Davis gets rid of Reggie why not bring in Holmgren as GM with Gruden as coach?!

Give me the JaMarcus years any day of the week over the garbage we’ve had to watch most of this season. At least in 2009, all this whining about a “lack of talent” was legitimate. Two schtty rookies starting at WR, schtty bookend OTs, and Justin Fargas as our starting TB. Oh, and JR was only in his 2nd year as a starter. There was hope for the future. Now, not so much.

  17. raiderpete Says:

Allen shows a hell of a lot of commitment to be back so soon. I was initially ecstatic to learn about Gruden, but I think Allen deserves and needs a chance. We do need to get rid of both coordinators. I’m thinking either Turner or Saunders next year, maybe someone as rough as Singletary for defense. If we draft well and get rid of some of these bums, we should be okay.

Another reason this Gruden rumor has guys excited is just the mere POSSIBILITY that something good will happen for us.

due to the position he has put the team in, he can not afford in any way shape or form a blow out loss tomorrow.

I think he has guaranteed thats whats going to happen. (it may have anyway…now its lock solid) The players dont connect with him. he needed to rally the troups in a BIG way M-Weds. Didnt happen.

Again I GET and agree as a person why he did what he did.

that doesnt change the e fact that professionally it will likely spell his end.

as for reid…Reid is a d1ck generally and specicfically. what he did was awful i agree. plus reid had NO (professional) reason to even think about coming back as fast as he did.

Allen was in a very tough spot. as a person did the right thing.

as in life sometimes the nice guys finish last.

right now (figuratively) he is in dead last place and only a miracle will save him. esp if the gruden rumor is even 50% true/possible.

As far as the Gruden rumor, I can see it from Ohio. Look, Mark wants to restore the Raiders, and it appears he is making amends with the past, and most recently with things that Mark may have had a different take on than his father, such as Marcus Allen and Jon Gruden coming back to light the torch. I went back to a job after being away for over four years, seeing some unfinished business to do. The climate changed, and I was willing to return. Now with Reggie and that familiarity, look what Gruden has to work with – a fluid transformation of the team – if he isn’t the GM, he certainly will have a friendly ear with RMac. If Gruden DID want to come back with Al here in 2009, what would change that? Now, will it happen? Anyone’s guess!

This Gruden stuff is fun at least. Even if it turns out he turns down Mark’s overtures.

I’m sure some fake contract details will come out soon just like the Tennessee charade.

I just hope they don’t shoot this down too quickly.

We’re just starting to have fun.

Does anybody know if Cork has weighed in on this Gruden stuff at all?

I thought I saw someone refer to a tweet he sent out?

Google Gruden lighting Oakland flame! Gruden with his black Raider visor!! I believe Johnny!!

I know…I saw that pic. Brings back good memories of when we were a real good team that people feared.

    =================

When I said on here Gruden lightning the torch signaled his return people took me literally and thought it was a stupid thing to say.

I am pretty sure when Gruden was in Alameda for that ceremony he had to have crossed paths with Mark, which most likely resulted in a conversation between the two. I am pretty sure if they had a conversation that maybe, just maybe the subject of the current state of affairs as it pertains to these sorry a$$ Raiders was brought up by Mark who no doubt seeked Gruden’s opinion on what his approach would be to try to fix the mess.

Gruden probably voiced his displeasure about the ZBS, how the talent on the roster was misused, probably identified to Mark the check cashers that needed the boot.

That conversation IMO has led to this rumor we keep hearing about.

People talkin about Gannon are forgetting about the year before he came to Oakland.
He was back up to Elvis(no not that one) Grbac at KC.
Grbac got hurt early and Gannon led KC to something like 12 wins and the AFC champs only to have Marty pull him in the playoffs for Grbac as he was finally healthy.

I remember being ridiculed by friends saying that KC wouldn’t win in the playoffs because they were shelving Gannon.

KC lost their 1st playoff game and I knew it would happen!
I was extremely impressed w/ Gannon that year and when I found out Gruden was going to bring him to Oakland, I knew he had found his guy and we would be on our way.

So Gannon wasn’t a complete unknown , he just hadn’t been given a shot yet.

And the rest is history as they say.
