    3. Oakland Raiders (draft history) – Star Lotulelei, DT, Utah

Drawing comparisons to Ravens stud defensive tackle Haloti Ngata, Lotulelei has the potential to be the top defensive tackle selected in April and a top-three pick. As a first-team All-Pac-12 selection in 2011, Lotulelei had a strong season this year as well even if the stats might not indicate that.

Adding a player with Lotulelei’s talent and upside should help the Raiders begin fixing some of their defensive woes. As noted with the Jaguars’ pick, the Raiders are tied for last in the league in sacks and have also allowed the second-most rushing touchdowns (15) this season.
    —————

    >> Star was my original pick for OAK. and that would be a great pick, but i think they can compete NEXT YEAR in the AFC west if the can fix their OLINE, then draft for D later. but hey, if they take star we have a 10 year BEAST in the middle of the DLINE. can’t be mad

I have a feeling that the Raiders will put up a fight against the donkies tonight, I believe they’ll be fired up and give Junior some emotional support for his father’s loss, similar to what the team did in Houston after Mr. Davis death, and what the chefs did last Sunday. I’m getting +11 points I’m putting the rent money on the Raiders tonight. Can you believe the Raiders would ever be an 11 point homedog ? Un-be-lie-vable! Bill Walton would say.

I don’t know what is meant by the qb position never being the same.

Is this referring to athletic qb’s who can pass AND run?

Or are we talking something else?

    ———

    He’s talking about skin color.

There have been plenty of running QBs in history. None of them panned out.

Flutie, Tarkenton, Cunningham, and Steve Young were all great in their own right. But Young is the only one to win a SB and he did it from the pocket.

    Mistic = Racist

    @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

If we’re talking about athletic young QBs who can pass, which white guys should he be including? Maybe Luck. But Ponder and Locker suck!

    —————

Who should he be including? It doesnt matter. He doesnt want to talk about white QBs.

I wouldnt call Luck a “Gunslinger” by any stretch. Yeah, hes got good feet, he’s not stiff. But he’s no RG3 either.

For for the sake of argument, Rogers is the guy that best fits the Elway/Farve mold. But we havent had a white Tarkenton type since Flutie to be honest.

    @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

And I really don’t give a schtt about rings. Tarkenton and Cunningham were absolute stud QBs. Not winning the SB doesn’t diminish either one of them IMO. It takes a damn good team and a lot of luck to win it all. Just ask Peyton Manning. He’s been the best QB in football for weel oer a decade and and only has one ring to show for it. Rings are overrated.

    ————–

Youre right, rings are team awards, not individual awards.

But as far as coaches and GMs are concerned, they are trying to survive their jobs. They are going to go with was is the most conservative and likely approach, even if it isnt the best. And they simply look at these facts and go with it….

    Pocket QB: countless SB’s
Gunslinger: Elway, Farve, Rogers, etc etc etc
21s Century Mobile QB: Tark, Flutie, Cunningham, Kordell, Vick, etc etc etc ZERO rings and usually coach killers.

Football has been around a long time. If there is a better way to do something, coaches and GMs are going to do it. So far, after 50 years of football, the mobile thing still hasnt panned out at the highest level.

Did you not just watch Solomon Wilcox on NFLN saying the one good thing the Raiders have and will build around is Carson Palmer!

We will not be drafting a QB for a while this years class sucks anyway

    ——

Nah, I’m working. Post when I can. Sometimes more than others.

I’m a CP fan. This is taken a bit out of context. I had originally though Reggie would go QB in this draft to put his stamp on his first year drafting with his scouts, etc.

But because the D is so bad, I think we go DE, maybe DT.

Just a bit of devil’s advocate.

imagine if the class of 99 had coaches that had the foresight to what we are seeing in the nfl today.

The class of 99 had to go over board staying in the pocket just so they could shake the “athlete playing qb”
    tag

air mcnair, macnabb, culpepper , micheal bishop all could have been much better if the nfl was ready for them.

sadly it wasnt, the nfl was still stuck in the world where running was discouraged, and used as a part of the game plan to keep teams off balance.

The nfl is behind the times and finally we are seeing what happens when you let the best players play the positions they were born to play

MR, we’ll skip the race thing cause it’s ridiculous.

Just off of performance, no, TP has not warranted seeing game action. Then again neither has Criner or Crawford or Bergstrom, but they’ve got some PT anyway.

Cause management wants to see what they got in the unproven youngsters.

TP no different. It’s why Reggie said he wants to get a look at him and didn’t mention Lienart. It’s because we already know what Lienart brings to the table.

In this kind of season, you got to make the most of it. Instead of trotting out the same guys who have put us in the 3-9 hole we’re in, let’s see how the young guns look under the lights.

IMO, there is no better time.

You obviously didn’t follow Gannon in Minnesota. I did. Remember, New England drafted him and tried to make him a DB. And Vick was awesome in Philly. No QB in the history of the game could have held up behind that line this season. Vick is the most underappreciated QB in the league and it isn’t even close.

Sure Cam and RG3 are good QB’s coming out of college and showing early signs of success but that’s a product of many things including how many colleges play a pro style offense now days, all athletes in all sports are bigger faster stronger etc.

But to say they are changing the game or “Revolutionizing” the game is just a misuse of the word maybe you should buy a dictionary or something.

When the 2 leagues merged that “revolutionized” the or in 1906 when the first forward pass was legal or they had to start using helmets because 18 players died of head injuries. Those are things that “Revolutionized the game not a QB that is faster than his predecessor that’s just the simple evolution of sport.

All of those guys declined fast when they could no longer escape like they used to. Running Qb’s just don’t last in the NFL. They’re great while they’re still athletic, but that instinct to run ruins them when they get older.

Wrong. The years of experience allow them to settle in nicely as pocket QBs. Just ask Young, Cunningham, Vick and Gannon.

    >> Vick can’t stay on the field, young almost had his brain dislodged and gannon wasn’t a run first QB. maybe cunningham was THE exception IDK

    @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

You obviously didn’t follow Gannon in Minnesota. I did. Remember, New England drafted him and tried to make him a DB. And Vick was awesome in Philly. No QB in the history of the game could have held up behind that line this season. Vick is the most underappreciated QB in the league and it isn’t even close.

    >> and Gannon won in Minnesota?NO Vick was a crap QB until he started THROWING from the pocket you know READING a defense. Vick would be elite IMO if he could stay on the field. and you never know where Vick could end up next year.wink wink.

actually they didnt decline any faster than their non mobile counter parts.

They played into their mid and late 30′s just like hundreds of other qbs.

for the record qbs get hurt in the pocket more than outtside of the pocket, both mobile and non mobile.

Anyone listening to 95.7 the game right now? I would tell u waht they said but I dont want the DA lovers and GRUDEN haters to get mad

  • The_Judge37

When a QB is more reliant on their legs than passing, they don’t last very long. You could see it in McNabb, Cullpepper and Vick, they tried to escape like they used to and by time but couldn’t.

Sure Cam and RG3 are good QB’s coming out of college and showing early signs of success but that’s a product of many things including how many colleges play a pro style offense now days, all athletes in all sports are bigger faster stronger etc.

But to say they are changing the game or “Revolutionizing” the game is just a misuse of the word maybe you should buy a dictionary or something.

come out from under the rock folks it isnt just me that says they have changed the qb position forever.

try jerrry jones, john madden john gruden solomon wilcots troy aikman and so on.
