Broncos weigh in on what ails Raiders

By Steve Corkran
Thursday, December 6th, 2012 at 9:36 pm in Oakland Raiders.

The Raiders came within one win of edging the Denver Broncos for the AFC West title last season. Today, the teams seem light years apart.
The Broncos beat the Raiders 26-13 on Thursday night for their eighth straight victory and improved to 10-3. The Raiders dropped to 3-10 after losing for the sixth straight time.
Broncos standout cornerback Champ Bailey said he sees a team that is in the process of finding the proper players for their schemes and adjusting to new coaching.
“It’s a combination of a lot of things,” Bailey said of the Raiders free-fall from 8-8 last season. “Once they get their personnel that they want and what coach (Dennis) Allen wants, things will start working out. It starts from the top. At some point, they’ll get it together.”
But when? The Raiders are in their 10th straight season of not posting a winning record or making the playoffs.
The more they try, the worse things seem to get. Meanwhile, the Broncos went from 4-12 in 2010 to 8-8 last season to a legitimate Super Bowl contender this season.
Allen, the coordinators and the players maintain that the Raiders are talented enough to win right now.
Broncos nose tackle Justin Bannan agreed that the Raiders don’t lack for talent. It’s a slew of other things conspiring against them right now.
“You have to understand, they lost their owner, they changed management, they got a new head coach,” Bannan said. “They got a combination of stuff happening. In today’s world, there’s no patience. But it’s going to take patience. You’re not just going to flip over like that and progress.”
Bannan said signing quarterback Peyton Manning helped the Broncos make the quantum leap from an average team to the one that is running roughshod over the league right now.
The Broncos also have Bailey and linebackers Von Miller and Elvis Dumervil playing at a high level on defense.
Broncos linebacker D.J. Williams said the Raiders have the talent, but it takes more than talent to win games.
“In terms of pure numbers, they are the biggest, fastest team in the league,” Williams said. “But in the NFL, every team has talent. It’s about jelling and getting on the same page.”
Raiders owner Mark Davis told Allen last month that the way the Raiders are playing “isn’t good enough.” Davis added that he wants to see progress.
The Raiders and Allen have three more games to impress Davis. There’s nothing to say that Allen is assured of being back next season.
Bailey said the Raiders would make a mistake if they don’t keep Allen beyond this season.
“He did some good things for us here,” said Bailey, in reference to Allen being the Broncos defensive coordinator in 2011. “I got to give him a lot of credit. He earned that job and he deserves to keep trying to put those winning seasons together. He’s a good football mind.”

If you go with a drafting a D Linemen within the first 3-4 picks in a draft, than you draft a pass rushing DE or OLB.

Not a one dimensional fat two gap NT/DT.

You must havent seen Star play, he will be picked ahead of Teo, like I said Teo will be exposed by Bama in the title game with Womack,Jones, and Fluker coming at him. Ask Jarvis Jones about that Bama oline.

That’s correct, DA and Tarver want to be Multiple but they don’t have players for either scheme, next year would prove how good or bad they are when they get a real chance to bring in players, let’s see how good Reg is when he finally drafts a player on the first day

Playoff teams have them (hello former 1-15 Colts!), non-playoff teams don’t.

    Best Moment of the Night

Mike Mayock “attempting” to talk crap about AL DAVIS on the broadcast…..claiming the Fans should be patient and that Reggie has no talent on the team….that the Raiders have screwed up their drafts the last 10 years…..

Very next play, DHB goes 56 yards for a TD!

Now Mike Mayock and Mike Huff have something in common other than their first names….

It’s been a difficult proposition this season for teams to win on the road on Thursday nights. Then again, most of those teams didn’t have to play the Oakland Raiders either.

really really sad what the three stooges have done to this team…

  16. MaddenRaiderisadouchebag Says:

LMAO at you Corkran! Yes, Dennis Allen is so wonderful!…All these teams beat the living crap out of us then praise our staff…What did Bailey say after we hung 59 points on him in Dungver? I’m sure they would LOVE for Allen to stay.

  17. THE BLACKHOLE Says:

The way I look at it is it was pretty much a slam dunk (though much tighter than I would’ve expected) and the Raiders are better off losing right now. One, it’s our only chance to hope Mark’s hand gets forced to make major coaching and/or GM changes. And two, it’ll improve our draft position.

    =================================

Exactly. We haven’t seen any glimmer of hope. The team gets outplayed week in and week out. We needed a spectacular come from behind and some breaks on defense at the end of the game to beat Pitt. Jax could have EASILY been a loss if not for some injuries and KC is KC. Probably the only team we may be better than.

I agree. Unfortunately, all three coming up are winnable.

If DA wins 2 of 3 there’s almost no way we’re getting rid of him, unless Mark has his mind made up with a Gruden type in waiting. If he wins 1 of 3 it’ll be tricky. May depend on how ugly the two losses are.

If he loses out, nine in a row, and goes 3-13 coming off back to back 8-8 seasons, I think Mark probably does demand a change.

    My odds on DA staying:

    3-13: 20%
    4-12: 50%
    5-11: 85%

Funny the donko says you can’t just “flip over & progress”, yet that’s exactly what they did with inserting Tebow & signing Manning the past 2 years.

  79. RaidersAllday_LtsGeTit Says:

Phuck what any Donkie player has to say. THIS ORG IS A MESS!!!

  80. Al_is_theraiders Says:

lmao…but we have no money…4 mil a year? sht, i know ushers at the stadium who know more football than DA…

  81. VanHeathen30 Says:

Champ Bailey wants DA to stay so the Donkeys get 2 automatic wins every season…
Palmer will allow him a couple of picks in those 2 meetings, to help pad his stats for theHOF.
DA is the best friend an AFC West team has…

  82. dr_robert Says:

loving this: 3 losses away from not only the #1 pick in the draft, but many months of missdick and priest crying about how “unfair” their being to pryor for not playing him, or even better, not committing to him after he does play in the last game and goes 4-15 23 yards, with one 42 yard run. SPACE-AGE ATTACK!

News is San Diego is cleaning house…

Think Norv would be a better OC than Knapp? Doesn’t matter, Raiders won’t sign him even if he is…

    ————————————–

Absolutely. Norv’s a great OC. Several teams will be interested in him in that role.

  87. VanHeathen30 Says:

DA has overseen 6 straight lopsided-over a halftime-beat downs…how can that provide any job security?

  88. 2romes Says:

This same old tired song you sing does not go over well when the GM and HC do not even keep games close. Keep the next games within striking distance in the fourth quarter and a few more fans might come on board.

Bunch of losers , who think there is nothing wrong with the talent level just because we beat up on weak teams on our way to consecutive 8-8 seasons, oh but we didn’t lose like this blah blah blah , etc etc, stfu and actually look forward to improving the team with a new GM who would finally get to make his mark on the team with a first rd pick and actually money to grab a legit player in FA, and D coaches will finally have some one they can build their schemes around instead of going out there with the misfits , only guy you guys should be calling out is KNapp

  90. DJ Johnny Says:

You guys ever seen Jay Glazer interview guys on NFLN?

He now ranks the highest onmy list as most irrtating interviewer I have ever see/heard.

He interviewed Aaron Rodgers and McCARTHY and it was actually uncomfortable to watch. He tried to be cute and funny with ‘em acting he was their good buddy and giving them crap and they were acting like “WTH is up with this dork”?

At the end of each interview he gives each guy some crap about something personal and he always ends up just irritating them.

It’s of no consequence just wondered if anyone had the same take.

  91. alswingman Says:

They will do better once they move over to the CFL.

  92. shutdown Says:

“In terms of pure numbers, they are the biggest, fastest team in the league,” Williams said. “But in the NFL, every team has talent. It’s about jelling and getting on the same page.”
    _________________________________________________

Let’s not use these words to try to claim that the “biggest, fastest” is what wins games. Al thought so. We know how that turned out once he couldn’t go out and sign the best free agents and when he was blinded on draft days by the “biggest, fastest.”

Williams was nice. He didn’t say “biggest, fastest” can also be w/out football smarts, but I think he implied that.

Take a guy like DHB. Big, fast, and yet not nimble, as the announcer tonight said. Just straightaway fast, which is okay if he could be trusted to catch a ball. All of us know that he doesn’t have great hands.

And what’s up with the guy we thought had great hands? Denarius Moore? Have you guys noticed he is pulling what DHB used to always do? Jumps up to catch the ball in his gut? Leaves his feet to get a ball that is no higher than his chest? Great way to get killed. It’s no way to catch a ball.

    Biggest. Fastest.

Reggie has said he wants FOOTBALL players. That means he isn’t blinded by biggest, fastest. Thank God.

  93. MiamiRaider78 Says:

How much is DA getting paid a year??? Link please

  94. Derek Says:

#40: The truth is Reggie Mc looks like the dunce he is, which is why he did not inspire sensible Raiders fans. He then goes out and hires the rookie coach blunder, who brings in the same OC who lost play calling duties for this SAME team.

A rookie GM bringing in a rookie HC who wants to change the entire operation in his initial year. After the team missed the playoffs by 1 game.

No Reggie Mc aka Spots, inspires NO confidence. He is what hi appears to be, a scrub, surrounded by other scrubs.

  95. Derek Says:

Spots says he wants football players and proceed to fill the team with no-named misfits, scrubs and minor leaguers, while passing on NFL talent.

  96. Derek Says:

WOW that fat doofus agreed to pay an unproven rookie coach 16 million over 4 yrs. Now he’s gonna lose additional millions in loss revenue from attendance.

Man Reggie Mc is proving to be a costly mistake. By all rights, based on his record, track recvord and lack of experience DA should be the lowest paid coach in the NFL. Spots paid that clown like he was a proven winner.

Some people seem to think there’s something superior about a 3-4 defense. Wake up, it’s still just a 11 guys, and if they blow coverages and lack gap discipline it won’t work either.

BTW, Teo will be worthless without a DL on this level…Not hatin on the guy but he IS NOT worthy of a top 3 pick.

    Truth
    ========================================================
He will have a D-line in front of him. Even though their not getting sacks, they do more than enough to help the linebackers

That being said, an elite pass rusher off the edge is a far greater need than a slightly better than average MIKE like Teo.

  100. rodn5yn Says:

The only problem with Allen is his choice of OC. Tarver’s just going through growing pains, and Knapp is a proven loser.

A versatile edge rusher/cover DE/OLB, a top notch free safety, and cornerback, and a good OC is all we need to see the post season next year.

  101. radrntn Says:

well if allen is so good, why did he pick knapp?
