McFadden, Seymour at practice; McClain absent

Running back Darren McFadden and defensive tackle Richard Seymour are at practice today, which bodes well for their playing against the Kansas City Chiefs.
McFadden returned last week after missing four straight games. He played against the Denver Broncos on Thursday night but he reinjured his right ankle.
As for Seymour, this is the first time he has practiced since he suffered a hamstring injury against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Nov. 4. He has missed the past five games.
McFadden is moving around well and looking like a guy that is ready to play Sunday against the Chiefs.
At one point, McFadden burst through some pads on the ground and sprinted toward the unsuspecting media contingent watching practice.
McFadden waited until he was right up on the media, screamed and grabbed beat writer Jerry McDonald around the waist as he ran through the scribes.

– Middle linebacker Rolando McClain is eligible to rejoin the team now that his two-game suspension for conduct detrimental to the team has ended and he has been reinstated to the 53-man roster.
However, he is not at practice today. The Raiders said in a press release that McClain isn’t “required” to be at practice today and that coach Dennis Allen will speak with McClain upon Allen’s return from Texas, where he is attending his father’s funeral.

– Strong safety Tyvon Branch is the only other player not at practice today. He suffered an ankle injury against the Broncos on Thursday night. He also is nursing a neck injury from the Cleveland Browns game.

– Offensive coordinator Greg Knapp is running practice today once again during Allen’s absence.
Once practice ends, the media are permitted locker-room access to speak with the players. However, Knapp and defensive coordinator Jason Tarver won’t speak with the media until later this week.

    **************************
Letting McFadden walk would be stupid, trading him for a mid-round pick would not be. McFadden will spend the rest of his career being a limited contributer and a change of pace homerun hitter essentially. I would offer him to Belichek for a 3rd round pick.

  • Dakota

With McFadden I think it will depend on his contract demands. If he is willing to re-sign for a reasonable contract that is incentive laden, then we should keep him based on his talent.

If he wants big guaranteed money, they we will have to let him go.

Since he is an injury prone RB, we will never get much out of the trade market, so if you can keep him for the right price, and make his contract based on games played and certain yardage marks, then why not keep him?

I would like to see him traded to a real NFL team though…..

You cant evaluate pryor based ona few gimmick plays the the defense will be ready for

    =====

Surely it’s not possible that Pryor, the best QB ever to wear Silver and Black, had anything to do with failing to get prepared. The coaches are holding him down because they are antiquated versions of the wave of the past at the QB position.

You are right that he can’t be evaluated on a few gimmick plays. He can be much better evaluated on failing to show enough in practice to earn a start, let alone ranking over Leinart.

He can however be showcased for a potential offseason trade with the right, safe set of plays in a gimmick package. I hear that the Jets might want an upgrade over Tebow in their gimmick package …

Kirk Cousins, the wave of the future at QB. He can’t be stopped either running or throwing!

Or maybe it’s just that the Redskins are running an offense that the NFL hasn’t seen enough of yet to properly scheme against. Just like how the WCO and the run and shoot were unstoppable when they first came out and only a single team was running them. Over time, others started to incorporate parts and pieces in this copycat league and defenses became more adept at solving them. A few pieces of each survived into more modern schemes and defenses continue to have specific means to combat them. Then every now and then someone comes up with a new wrinkle that is well executed and it looks unstoppable — until the DCs get enough film and figure out it’s weakness.

The true test of the Redskins system will be next season, not this one. And then we’ll see if RGIII is as great as he looks now (and Cousins for that matter) or if the system is playing a bigger part than the accolade tossers want to admit.

PS — System plays a big part in other QB’s successes as well. See Rodgers-Flynn and Brady-Cassells for all the proof one needs.

There was some idiot on this blog a few weeks ago tyring to “hate” on hue saying how 8-8 wasnt really 8-8?

Huh? You know how freaking hard it is to win in this league. Go as Andy Reid how hard it is to win in this league.. go ask DA how hard it is to win.

Hue had us at 8-8 till the final week of the season. Thats how entertaining a season it was the last few weeks of the season last yr. Starting RB, QB all went down, The owner, NO GM, NO help DMOORE/ FORD missed alot of time during the playoff push.

    Still got 8-8

I’d get rid of DA/KNAPP before of McClain.

Also, if you’re last in the NFL in rush/pass ratio, maybe put in the QB with the wheels and get a few extra “rushes” out of his scrambling ability. Not to mention a few extra 3rd down conversions.

When you draft a running QB, you just have to understand that you are getting a QB who will have a short shelf-life, and unless you can convert that QB to a pocket passer, he will probably be done by age 32, or sooner.

That is why you pick a QB like Luck over a QB like RGIII every day of the week.

Randall Cunningham had some effectiveness late in his career staying in the pocket for the Viqueens. I can’t think of any others.

Jamarcus threw 680 passes in his career. CP has thrown 861 since hes been here. CP’s pretty good. Not great, but definitely not terrible. Im not so much a huge CP supporter, but comparing his stats to Russells without showing the full story is not really a very objective argument.

On the flip, you can post CP’s 2012 #’s, 60.8 completion pct, 3805 yards, 22 TD’s to 14 INT’s, 85.3 QB rating, all with zero run game. When you look at it like that, then it looks like he’s having a pretty good season, even though that’s not really the case.

I think Palmer can play. Id actually hate to see what this team would look like if we had some of the lesser talented QB’s that other teams have. Id like to see what Pryor could do too. I hope he actually does turn into the next great Raiders QB, but if he doesnt, so be it. I will say this, I think its been good for Pryor to have CP to sit behind. God knows there could be far worse examples of how to handle your business for TP than Carson Palmer.

As much as McClain has been horrible for the raiders .. the Raiders have been horrible for him too.

Drafting a MLB high and putting him a system that he is not use to. The high coaching turnovers on the defense. Lack of a True NT upfront he is use to playing with in 3-4

Maybe mckenzie want to hold on to a 23 yr old Butkus award winner and see what he can get out of him instead of letting him be cut and going to another team that will use him right. Maybe he wants McClain to come back and face his teamates after all that crap he talked about this team??

either way I’d get rid of DA/KNAPP before McClain

  • MiamiRaider78

It’s really impossible to call Palmer a winner with that record but he is definitely not fully culpable of how the team performs.

Moving forward, at 33, is he up to renegotiating his contract in order to hang around until this team develops into a playoff team? The likelihood of having to get accustomed to another O.C (would be his 3rd in 3 years) could also play a big part in his or the organazations decision?

I have my doubts and it’s another reason why I think he should be traded. How old is Palmer going to be when we reach the playoffs? 43 Get the draft picks if possible and BUILD.

  • Dakota

We could win with Carson Palmer…..we just have to have a decent D that can 1) man up once in a while when Palmer throws ill-timed picks, and 2) not let us fall behind so fast that our offense becomes one-dimentional.

We also need improved o-line protection and a legit running game.

I hoped all of those things were going to happen this year…..instead this coaching staff made us worse in all areas of play.

I don’t see us getting that corrected if DA and co remain, so we should trade Palmer if we can….

    There is no hope.

Play Pryor to see what we have, and maybe fool a team into trading some picks for him….then start over at the QB spot next year.

I don’t know WTF they’re thinking with this one. There’s no Saving NOTHING at this point. Should be 100% evaluation mode. I mean, Knapp has been getting heavy machine gun fire and he’s been pinned down all year (Deservedly so), so I ask WHAT good would it do to fire him Now? 3 games left. Giving him the ax might have been a good idea if we still had a shot at sneaking IN….But we’re DONE. Fire him now or in 3 weeks, it doesn’t matter a damn bit. Baltimore is still battling for their division, and came off 2 disappointing losses and their offense has been sputtering and doing just enough to win some of their games. Am I making any sense?
