McClain back on the field with Raiders

Rolando McClain was back on the field and practicing with the Raiders Wednesday, apparently having worked out his issues with coach Dennis Allen.

McClain served a two-game suspension for conduct detrimental to the team after being ejected from practice Nov. 28 after a reportedly “heated’’ argument with Allen.

He then made disparaging remarks about the organization on his Facebook page, but had removed the posts by the middle of the day.

Last Friday, the day after the Raiders lost to the Denver Broncos 26-13, Allen said he would meet with McClain before making a determination on whether he would be reinstated to the roster.

McClain was taken off the reserve/suspended list Monday while Allen was in Texas attending the funeral of his father.

ESPN originally reported McClain would be waived.

How much McClain will play, if at all, remains to be seen over the final three games of the season. Allen will be available to the media following practice.

McClain had already lost his spot in the nickel defense to rookie Miles Burris after the fourth game of the season, at which time he also relinquished play-calling duties to strong side linebacker Philip Wheeler.

Omar Gaither has started as the middle linebacker in the 4-3 defense over the past two weeks.

Before the team broke into team sessions, at which time the media is excused, McClain was going through drills with linebackers and defensive linemen. At one point, he was carrying the ball as a running back while defenders went through drills positioning themselves in the proper gaps.

Players who were not at practice Wednesday were strong safety Tyvon Branch (neck, ankle) and defensive tackle Christo Bilukidi (illness).

Defensive tackle Richard Seymour was on the field for his second straight practice after missing five games with a hamstring strain. Running back Darren McFadden looks at full strength and has made the last two practices after tweaking his injured right ankle in the fourth quarter against Denver.

Being 40 million over the cap, and having no draft pick before 97th overall is not an excuse for a bad year, it is a REASON.

If you take the brakes off your car, that is not an excuse for crashing, it is the reason…

    ********

Yes, the reason is pointed to the question, why did you press the gas pedal without good brakes?

Point is if you know it’s a full on rebuild, why not gut the bloated salaries whole hog than do it piecemeal and make the pain endure for multiple seasons?

  • bcz24

For as bad as McClain has been for the RAiders. The Raiders have been bad for him. Drafting a kid and putting him in another system is not good. The high coaching turnovers the last few seasons. New HC every year, new DC. The guy never had a true NT in front of him like he is use to playing with. NO 3-4 where he played all of his collegiate career.

Jacobs talks crap about organization and they send him home for the rest of the season. Rolando, who hasn’t done anything noteworthy in his career, blasts organization and he gets to suit up for practice. That’s the difference between the 49ers and Raiders–we are still stuck heading in the wrong direction with the inmates running the asylum, while Harbaugh takes crap from no one. Allen has to go and I am none to impressed with Reggie. I have a tough time believing in him given how inarticulate he is.

I totally disagree with him being back on the field. You can’t sh1t on your team like that and still be back out there. Bad move.
    =========================================

If they try to suspend him for the season he would file a grievance and this would just drag on. Clearly they are trying to get SOMETHING for this POS who happens to be an overall number 8. It is what it is.

A lot of those contracts were more costly to cut than keep. Reggie had to balance purging out of whack contracts with still coming under the cap AND finding 53 guys to put on the field. If we had cut everybody, we wouldn’t have been under the cap, but in fact would have been further over it. Guys like McClain, with the bonus accelleration would have had a bigger cap hit to cut them than keep them. It has to be done in steps. Thats why guys like Lombardi, Mayock, Pat Kirwan, Charlie Casserly all say the same thing. This is a 3 year MINIMUM rebuild. It CANT be fixed in one offseason.

  • RaidersAllday_LtsGeTit

Maybe Reggie just doesnt want to reward McClain with being cut and going to another team. LaConfora already reported 6 teams were interested in MCclain including one playoff team but he didnt name it.

Maybe Reggie wants ROMAC to face his teamates after all that crap he talked??

Maybe he wants to see what he can get out of him again or do a draft day trade.

And if Rich Seymour does not chase down Mark Sanchez at the 4 inch line on the last play against the Jets, sack Schaub for a big loss on the final drive in the “Ghost of Al” game, and then block not one but two FG’s in KC, Jackson probably wouldn’t have won as many games as Allen. Except for going over the salary cap isn’t an option. The NFL takes draft picks away. If you are over the cap the NFL will force you to get under, or they will make you forfeit games. There is no discussion, or negotiation. You CAN NOT be over the cap.
