Raiders quick notes

Some post practice and locker room notes before moving on to the print product . . .

– Raiders coach Dennis Allen wasn’t shedding any light on the details of what went on regarding the suspension of Rolando McClain. Allen did say, however, McClain had been informed he was being demoted to being a substitute linebacker and special teams player, and that’s the role he will continue in moving forward.

In other words, McClain got angry at the news he wasn’t starting _ he’d already lost his spot in the nickel defense before the Atlanta game _ and that precipitated the incident.

McClain was not present during the open locker room period.

Allen did not directly respond to McClain’s Facebook rants _ one of them had to do with playing for a “real team” _ saying things are said in the heat of the moment.

– Defensive tackle Richard Seymour practiced for the second straight day and Allen expects him to play. Seymour said his condition is about “same as Monday.”

– Allen said he expected Terrelle Pryor to play against Kansas City. Pryor has been active and had a set of plays to run in each of the last two games but hasn’t played.

– Defensive tackle Christo Bilukidi (illness) and strong safety Tyvon Branch (neck, ankle) did not particpate in practice.

– No worries about running back Darren McFadden _ he was a full participant in practice.

No. If you are over the cap the NFL will take your future draft picks.

    **********

I meant take the pain all the way to the cap limit and sign nobody of note in free agency. take as much cap poison as possible WITHOUT going over the cap.
    *****************
    Thats essentially what Reggie did.

    *******

essentially meaning almost. No need to lock up Branch long term or pay Rich S another $7.5M for his retirement fund. No need to bring in Bresiel either. Just a series of 3rd day or later table scrap one year FA deals, which like you said he “essentially” did. Gotta clean house before we get better.
    ————-
Agreed, if Reggie were truly rebuilding he wouldnt have made the deals he did on Seymour, Branch, and Briesel. Reggie had a bad year.

  • guest123

Last offseason, we all bought into the illusion that the team was reloading and the coaching staff would make water into wine. Now that the blinders are off and we see reality for what it is, I’m down with a firesale salary cap purge. We can’t continue to dance around bad contracts and walk the line between salary capped out and a mix of really bad players with a few stars. What’s the point? Al Davis left this team in much worse shape than we were led to believe.

  • guest123

I’d also concede to Reggie’s vision that he had for the Raiders going into the ZBS system on offense and being “mutliple” as it was called for Tarver’s defense. It hasn’t worked out for either, but I don’t think Reggie will make dramatic changes there.

But the coaches who attempted to run with Reggie Mck’s vision should be fired anyway. Reggie needs to wait on the new class of possible coaching hires this offseason and pounce on an upgrade to Tarver & Knapp. Hoffman should be let go immediately after the final game regardless. We definitely got the plan B and plan C coaches and coordinators. I think he’ll stick with DA no matter what though and also DA’s coaching philosphies.

    Good Morning Nation!!!
So Pryor will finally get his chance? We’ll see Sunday!
Hopefully we stay long enough to see him play!

    ******

    Good morning Hawaiian Raider!

Hopefully by then the game will not have any meaning so the kid can play without all the pressure.

    Good Morning Guest!
    I know right?

We almost did not go to this game…almost decided to call it a year and just relax for the rest of the year, but…hey, why not!

The Brisiel deal in hindsight was bad but think about it, you are switching to the ZBS, the highest graded zbs guard in the league becomes available, his former oline coach who is now your oline coach recommends him. I mean, seems like a move most GMs would make. It isn’t an out of whack contract, and it doesn’t hurt us in the long term either.

Same thing with Branch, I know he gets crapped on in here a lot, but he is very highly regarded in the NFL.

I don’t know how much the national guys really watch the Raiders to say that Branch is so good.

I’ve seen him whiff way too many times with his flailing arm tackle swipes.

Maybe it’s one of those Seymour things where people keep saying how good he is when you really don’t see him or hear his name mentioned..such as taking up double teams etc. Although when I watch closely, i don’t notice that happening very often.

Alot of it has to do with playing Bo Jackson over Marcus.

I remember at the time as far as your best chance to win, Bo being that guy.

Bo was the best combination of speed and power the league had ever seen and it’s pretty tough to keep a giy like that on the bench…even if u do already have Marcus.

I think Marcus was upset about that and it kind of escalated from there. Marcus then wanted out, and Al didn’t wnat to let him go…till finally he did.

  • bcz24

Bush didn’t want to be a Raider. Period. He didn’t even give us the opportunity to match the contract the Bears offered him to BACK UP Forte!

  • hwnrdr

Too bad the last 2 years though…Marcus was wasted talent on the bench! After he went to KC, they were 9-1 against us! I hated those 5 years!!!

  • bcz24

Too bad we couldn’t have that Bo Marcus problem now… in a time when an offense can easily be tailored to 2 feature backs…

I think we have 2 more rings at least if Bo never gets hurt… fvckin bengals.

  • hwnrdr

    That is true, Bcz!

I was saying 3 but yeah, at lest 2

I don’t think we will ever see an Allen or Bo again…I’m glad 32 and 34 played for the Silver and Black!

  • DJ Johnny

I’d rather see Pryor play start to finish and have to deal with pressure right away.

It’s not like we have such a porous line as far as pass blocking is concerned that he would be under constant duress.

People say Palmer is immobile, and if that’s the case. our line has not been that bad as Palmer sack total is more middle of the pack in the league.

If people want to see if Pryor should be the #2, then you have to see how would do in pressure situations cuz nobody’s gonna take it easy on him.

I say let Pryor deal with everything a real NFL D might throw at him and take his lumps and see how he handles it.

If he goes out in only easy situations we will learn nothing in regard to how he would be in the real game time situations.

  • bcz24

Peterson is pretty close to what Bo was, he is a hair slower, but he also plays against far better defenses.

To have a legit shot to break the all time single season rushing record 10 after destroying his knee at the end of last year is simply freakish.

  • bcz24

Palmer isn’t ‘mobile’ per say, but he isn’t a statue. He is pretty adept at moving within the pocket to avoid pressure, AND Palmer has be very good at getting the ball out before the sack occurs… not always with the best results. Our pass blocking, even though our sack #s are middle of the pack, has been quite awful.

  • bcz24

I seriously hope Pryor turns out to be exactly what Mistic thinks he is. It will be worth the 1000′s of posts patting himself on the back for the benefit of the organization.

Defenses may be faster and more complex now, but tackling in the NFL these days is not so good. I’ll take Bo, thanks.

  • hwnrdr

Yeah you’re right, AP is pretty up there and he is on pace to break 2000 yards a year after damaging his knee…TWICE!

    hindsight is always 20/20

I liked the Briesel deal at the time and thought it made sense.

Of course my opinion has changed since then.

It’s not a move I would bash Reggie for.

At the same time I would say see-ya to Briesel.

  • Marks hair

Krapp wont put tp in any easy situations.. they wont start tp. And when they do bring him in krapp will give him an athelete package instead of just running our playbook.. zone option?? Yup

  • hwnrdr

I wann see how our D line is with Big Rich back in there…they have declined since Seymour was out!

  • DJ Johnny

I keep popping on here hoping i’ll see some big announcement of some kind. I don’t know what i’m looking for, just SOMETHING…ANYTHING to get excited about.

I need to get over my Raiders addiction and quit hoping they can or will do anything positive or of any consequence.

If you like misery, blandness, beatdowns, embarrassment, being laughed at, non-competitive and being hopeless…THIS is your team this year.

  • Marks hair

I do have to bash Reggie for hiring brisel.. we needed passrush and cb help.. we Had a solid center already.. he cut satele jumbled the line and brought in pure garbage at our positions of need. Turrible

Bo to this day STILL has the fastest time at the combine EVER recorded and literally ran over people.

Steve Atwater was supposed to be one of the toughest hitters in the league when Bo just ran over him and kept on going…and we all remember the Bosworth thing.

    Peterson is really good though.

  • Charlie

That is the problem of trying to evaluate secondary and linebacker talent on a team with a weak Dline.
When a DB is your team’s leading tackler you have SERIOUS problems up front.

Long before the game is played this week, please do not be fooled by a strong game from Seymour, Kelly or Shaugnessy.
We are playing a weak team who will be forced to be more one dimensional without Bowe on the road.
    Same for Carlisle and Barnes.

We have five line spots that need to be upgraded significantly. THE DENVER GAME IS ALL WE NEED TO SEE TO KNOW THAT.

I am also amused by the questions regarding why Myers went from 14 to one catche against the Broncos.
HE WAS HELD IN TO HELP BARNES (and Veldheer to a lesser extent) as much as possible. You saw what happened when we did not do that twords the end when we had to play catch up. Circumstances have a big impact on results and there is not always a direct correlation with the immediate players involved.

  • hwnrdr

The one BIG mistake Reggie did this year, besides not keeping Samson (which is very close) is not bringing in a vet true #1 receiver! Not sure how much it would have helped, but our guys are way too young!

  • The_Judge37

I like to judge player by video games, and Peterson is not unstoppable in Madden like Bo was in Techmo Bowl.

Yes. I think it is better that they see an almost empty stadium.

This team has been on a downward spiral since opening night…and we didn’t even win that game.

Raiders will be back with DA and knapp next year. OLINE is blocking better now. defense is a mess and tarver might not be back. Raiders have to get that running game going. if they can run they can compete NEXT year, at least be respectable. i don’t think the offense is far off oat all. need to draft for defense though.

  • Marks hair

Our police are wasting all our money on a rediculus war on drugs.. thats why theyre broke.. stop arresting and jailing for pot. Stop burning down fields, and start taxing the stuff… fùcking morons in this state.

  • The_Judge37

Problem is it’s difficult to regulate drugs people can grow/make themselves. Legalize Pot and i’ll start growing my own. Unlike Cigarettes and Alcohol, which is much more difficult to brew yourself.

Growing a few Tomatoes in your garden that spoil rather quickly is one thing. Growing 12 plants that yeild 2-4 pounds each, that can be sold to dispensaries under the table is different. I agree with the burden it causes us, but the $$$ the state makes on the war that they can’t recoupe from legalization yet is the hurdle stopping them. Until they figure out how to make their money without the common people getting a piece, then we’re stuck.

  • The_Judge37

Also, it’s Cocaine that makes the Cartels Rich, not so much weed. And i don’t see that being legalized ever so there’s really no solution to that.

  • raiderlization

What about Stablers delivery? So what as long as he delivers the ball to our team and not the opposition. He also has escape-ability that our current QB does not have. You want Lienert 1st then who’s gonna protect him Barnes and Brisiel? Stop hating on Raiders and get behind change. This team is going to change even more. How much is Pryor making 13 mil or 500,000.00? that’s the difference 12.5 opened up! Go Raiders!

  • Marks hair

The state only loses money in the war on drugs. Theres no profit. Just stop and do your jobs..
