McClain still running with scout team

By Steve Corkran
Thursday, December 13th, 2012 at 11:50 am in Oakland Raiders.

Middle linebacker Rolando McClain is at practice for the second straight day since his return from a two-game suspension for conduct detrimental to the team. Don’t count on seeing him on the field anytime soon.
McClain was spotted wearing a green beanie over his helmet, a designation used to indicate that he is a player on the scout team.
Coach Dennis Allen said Wednesday that McClain will be a backup linebacker and special teams player. It’s conceivable that McClain won’t even be active for any of Oakland’s remaining three games.
It seems logical that the Raiders are holding on to McClain until teams are allowed to trade in the offseason, at which point they can attempt to get a draft pick in return.

– Strong safety Tyvon Branch is the only player not at practice today. He’s still nursing ankle and neck injuries.

– No word from the Raiders yet on whether Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs sold enough tickets for the game to be televised locally.
Six of Oakland’s first seven regular-season games were televised locally. It’s a stretch to envision the Raiders selling at leasat 85 percent of the tickets for this game, considering the Raiders are 3-10 and the Chiefs 2-11.

    If a team like the Patriots or Ravens wanted him, they may be willing to give up the late round pick, because it is unlikely that McClain would clear waivers, or even fall that far to them.

    Is McClain worth a 7th rounder? Sure. So, someone will trade for him and if one or more 3/4 teams would be interested, then you can get some value for him. Remember this is a guy who was supposed to be a marquee defender on a National Championship Team. He most likely had low lst or high 2nd round value coming out of college, and probably still can command 4th or 5th round value I would think.

    my $ would be on May, but a couple things:

    pac bashed De La hoya and Cotto
    mayweather controversially beat De la hoya and got a run for his $ vs Cotto

    Pacquiao is a faster stronger cotto. I would love to see how May would have respnded.

    actually they still should fight because BOTH have lost a step and Pac actually looked good before he got knocked out. Possible that Pac will never be the same, but if he recovers fully, would be great

  21. Charlie Says:

    No question that after our 2002 Super Bowl loss, Mr Davis should have turned the reigns over to a GM.

    He clearly lost the ability to draft well although much of that blame also falls on the antiquated scouting staff that we employed. (It still gets back to Davis).

    What is interesting to note that it was the TANDEM of Ron Wolf and Davis that made the Raiders great. Those two laid the foundation of perhaps the greatest Olines ever to be assembled. (Many of you may not be old enough to realize that in the Immaculate reception game the Raiders started 4 Hall of Fame O lineman:)

    Shell, Upshaw, Otto AND Bob Brown(spent most of his years with the Eagles). George Buehler at RG was the only non HOF player. I do not think that ever has been or will be done again.
    The problem was we were going against perhaps the greatest Dline assembled as well.
    That was not an accident. All teams in the AFC at that time knew that if you could not beat Oakland’s OLINE you would not beat Oakland.

    Perhaps you guys now might better understand my passion for building both lines but especially the Oilne.
    With a dominant Oline you will win the majority of your games.

    styles make fights

    pac man is a pressure fighter so his style wore down those guys a bit faster than mayweather, as maywether is more defensive and tends to counter instead of lead.

    Pac man has faded badly over the last two years money has not.

    Money has slowed down but his technique is so clean it allowed him to change his style from constant movement to that moves only when necessary but will defend while in the pocket and counter punch. he now sit on his punches and punches much harder

    Manny’s style is tailor made for maywetaher to counter, and his stamina does not allow him to throw the overwhelming amount of punches any longer. Pac mans technique though vastly improved isnt clean enough to penetrate moneys defense.

    He seems to possess a key quality absent from our CB’s for years…he has an eye for the ball and looks to make a play.

    In the past, our corners would not make that int. against Manning cuz they would still be staring at the WR instead.

    Did he make the int against Cleveland too?

    Who was the guy that made the int against KC? I know Adams made one of those.

    At any rate might we be looking at Shawntae Spencer and Adams as our starting corners in 2013?

    i always thought mayweather would have beaten pacman because he’s a faster stronger marquez but i have much more respect for pacman because he fought everybody, even giving his toughest opponent marquez four fights (by the way marquez won the 1st and 4th, 2nd I lean Marquez third I lean Pacquiao but 2nd and 3rd could have been draws).

    When you compare common opponents Mayweather i believe lost to De La Hoya who was the champ at the time and the aggressor while Pac pummelled him. Cotto gave Mayweather all he could handle while Pac similarly pumelled him. Mayweather on the other hand toyed with Marquez while Pac had his hands full

    When you marvel Mayweathers controversially unblemished record however, remember that Roberto Duran was 70 and 1, while Julio Caesar Chavez went 89 -0 and these guys fought the best guys out there and went up in weight several times
    ///////////////////////////

    Mayweather clearly beat De La Hoya idk why it was even a split decision win. Mayweather fought a different style of fight against Cotto. Look at the 12th round when the victory was clearly in hand, Mayweather took the fight to the center of the ring and dominated. Mayweather would have destroyed Pacquiao in their primes, Mayweather is the best counter puncher and defensive fighter in the game, Pac would have been eating check right hands all night. JCC clearly lost to Whittaker and Duran was destroyed by Hearns so i don’t understand your points

    Kyle Long is the best athlete in the long family, however he is a very raw football. He played 3 year of collage baseball and only played 2 years of collage football. He thought he was going to pitch in MLB but it turns out he has more of a NFL body. He played D-line for one season and is playing O-line this year for the Ducks. He is very raw but has a high celing. He will most likely be a RT in the NFL. Kyle Long should be a 3rd round pick but it is hard to say where he will be picked. Some say in the 2nd round cuz he is a Long & great athele, some say in the 4th because he is so raw and he got a DUI and bad grades his 2nd year. However he has done well in school and has not gotten in trouble since. If he is around when the Raiders pick in the 3rd, We should get young Long!

    Put 55 in the middle of the pats 3-4 next to Brandon Spikes with Wilfork in the middle eating up 3 blockers… You wont see McClain getting run over.

    Give him a team with structure and leadership, and you wont see him jogging either.
    ============================================

    And get another Miles Burris or Desmond Bishop type player later in the draft and we have improved our team as well.

    ///////////////////////

    Burris is a 24 year old rookie and he is hot garbage. Dude is a terrible tackler, bad in coverage, and eats stiff arms all game, I’ll pass on another Miles Burris. Maybe we should use him more often on blitzes because he gets exposed everywhere else on the field

    Drafting a top OL within the top 5 picks does not equate to having a successful OLINE.

    Look at all the good teams in the league. Most don’t have a top 5 pick on their OLine.

    It’s about good coaching, implementing proper schemes that fit the talent and getting the OLine to play as a unit. All that equates to success.

    I say a big NO to the Raiders using their top 3 pick on an OLinemen!
    =========

    I totally agree.

    ^^^^^^^^
    McK needs to focus on drafting solid football players on Defense who were talented and were leaders on their respective teams in college.

    He also needs to draft a Right Tackle who also has the ability to play inside in the middle rounds.

    Maybe even draft a Center so Wiz can move back to LG, since Carlisle is done.

    If Pryor were as good as Mistic says he is than I would say definitely move out Palmer…

    I’d love to believe Pryor was.

    I think TP should start the last 3 games regardless.

    It would at least give us a reason to be interested in the games.

    =============================================
    I’ve been advocating TP getting some run the entire season.

    I couldn’t believe that Matt Lice was number 2 and that TP wasn’t even ACTIVE.

    Absolute proof that this staff is clueless, visionless and incompetent.

    I’m not a Palmer basher, but I’m also not a big fan.

    Frankly, I think he’s competent but extremely overrated.

    Better than Jason Cantball, but that’s not saying much.

    I also don’t believe TP is an effective enough passer to be a very good NFL QB, but I’m not certain about that. I certainly would not rule it out.

    I believe a competent staff would have had some packages installed for TP and would have attempted to ‘ease him in’. Give him a taste.

    Look, even if he flamed out entirely, you’ve lost nothing.

    I’ll take it a step further.

    TP has the athletic prowess to play in some capacity in this league. There is little doubt in my mind about that.

    Sure, he wants to be a QB. He’s convinced he can do it.

    A really good and visionary HC would be able to convince him that maybe that’s not his ultimate position (if he flamed out) or that in the meantime he can help the team in some other capacity.

    TP doesn’t seem to be an idiot. He’ll do what’s necessary to help the team and bolster his career. At least I’d like to believe that.

    If Al was still around, I KNOW he’d find a way to get TP on the field, even if it wasn’t at QB.

    This staff ? He’s lucky to finally be activated and we still haven’t had a glimpse as to what the future might hold.

    I’m wondering whether Tits and Krapp finally decided to take a look at TP or if the order came from Reggie or Mark.

    All I know for sure is that it’s about freaking time.

    Please understand, my definition of a great Oline is one that can pass block AND run block. You need to be able to do both to win against good teams. Run block when you have the lead or enter the red zone and pass block when you need to play from behind. Staying balanced allows you to avoid being one dimensional and enhances EVERY skill player on the field.
    At that time you can get your RB’s and WR’s in the later rounds.

They do it again..this time they know what the play is..Wheeler filled the wrong gap?..run it again..The scout team guard fell down? run it again..Giordano got burned by the scout team receiver? Run it again…and on and on it goes..

    Not sure if this was posted or not, but did you hear what he actually said to D.A that started this whole shouting match? D.A said to run something again in a drill, and he asked McClain–’Do you even care?’ and McClains response was “I have four million reasons not to.” and Vesuvius erupted..

    The following quotes are from NFL scouts, coaches and front-office personnel, speaking on the condition of anonymity:

    • “The Eagles cut Jason Babin because they are making plans for next year already. They have to play their young guys. When you have bad secondary and corner play, your pass rush is in trouble. The whole defense is predicated on having physical corners. I would have benched Nnamdi Asomugha last year. It takes a blind man not to see it. He turns down contact and gets away with it. There is no accountability, and the players see it.”

    making it to become a pro athlete, is not and cant ever be associated with ‘the cause”.

    Sports mean nothing it is not social equality or justice.

    It is an oversimplification to say ‘they can just walk away’.

    You are talking about people that come from the worst segments of poverty and most for several generations.

    They have worked extremely hard to break out and wont simply give it up for a principal that most are unfamiliar with to begin with.

    This is part of the way they are easily controlled and manipulated.

    there is no “if’ in the notion that black people men in particular have obstacles placed in front of them to keep them from succeeding, regardless of what aspect we are talking about. academics, sports politics labor or what have you all are included.

Otto is arguably the best center ever while Upshaw and Shell were among the best guards and tackles in history. In 1971, this group allowed only 24 sacks in 14 games, repeating this in 1972. They paved the way for Marv Hubbard’s three straight Pro Bowls between 1971-73. Otto was as durable as he was tough; he never missed a start, 308 consecutive games over 15 years. Shell was an eight time Pro Bowl Selection, seven times All Pro, and was named to the NFL 1970’s All Decade Team. Upshaw was named to the NFL 75 th Anniversary team and has been the head of the NFL Players Association for decades. This is arguably the best offensive line ever.

    The Jacksons of Bessemer Ala. were a very proud family.

    Glad Bo made the decision to go to Auburn and then eventually to the Raiders and Royals.

    I kinda gotta agree here. But not simply because Teo is a all-world MLB.

    Teo doesnt seem to have any of the anti-social issues that McClain has displayed.

    But Teo is a 3-4 ILB on a very talented team. His flaws are masked and his positives are exagerated due to his teammates play. Those are the exact same issues we’ve had with Rolando.

    Other than their personality differences, I see the same issues. We cant turn a 3-4 guy into a 4-3 guy. We dont have the talent up front to make Teo as much of a impact player.

    Maybe if we were willing to keep Rolando and pair him with Teo and switch to a 3-4 it might work, but it looks like that ship has sailed so lets just not make the same mistake twice.

    We messed up with Roland, even with his personality disorder. We’d do the same with Teo simply based on putting him in the wrong scheme. Both guys are not good enough athletes to adjust and change their game to suite the 4-3.

    I dont know why this rubs you guys the wrong way but racism is not “dislike’

    dislike is just an emotion it has no power.

    racism is about power

    it was invented by white and used as a system of power over black people.

    It was born with the slave trade.

    It included a comprehensive strategy, including some of the horros listed below

    disrupting communication

    , separating tribal groups so people that spoke the same dialect were not together. people that tried to retain their afrikan language were killed, babies were taught broken backward english and afrikan language was a death sentence.

    disrupting marriage and courtship and kin ship rituals.

    including forcing incest breeding, selling / killing of children and family memebers, forced witness of torture and rape, being barred from marriage or parenting all together, forced to be surrogate parents for slave masters family.

    These are just a few examples of what racism was created to be, and this was the only purpose for its invention.

    There is no record anywhere on earth of black people in amerikkka, such a system to enslave or dominate anyone.

    Outrage in US as black man is shot in head while handcuffed in police car

    The death of a young black man who was shot in the head while handcuffed in the back of a police car has caused uproar among the black community in Arkansas, a US state with deep racial faultlines.

    Mr Carter was pulled over by police late last month and searched twice by officers who discovered a small $10 bag of marijuana. He was also wanted for skipping probation on another drugs charge.

    Mr Carter had his hands cuffed behind his back and put into a police car.

    Michael Yates, the police chief, has conceded that a “very unusual” chain of events led up to the later discovery of Mr Carter was found slumped in the back of the police car with a bullet wound in his head.

    He later died in hospital.

  244. KoolKell Says:

    Twenty year-old Mary Turner, 8 months pregnant at the time and whose husband had been killed in this “lynching rampage” on Sunday, May 19th, made the mistake of publicly objecting to her husband’s murder. She also had the audacity to threaten to swear out warrants for those responsible. Those “unwise remarks,” as the area papers put it, enraged locals. Consequently, Mary Turner fled for her life only to be caught and taken to a place called Folsom’s Bridge on the Brooks and Lowndes Counties’ shared border. To punish her, at Folsom’s Bridge the mob tied Mary Turner by her ankles, hung her upside down from a tree, poured gasoline on her and burned off her clothes. One member of the mob then cut her stomach open and her unborn child dropped to the ground where it was reportedly stomped on and crushed. Her body was then riddled with gunfire from the mob. Later that night she and her baby were buried ten feet away from where they were murdered. The makeshift grave was marked with only a “whiskey bottle” with a “cigar” stuffed in its neck.

    Some may ask, why bring up “the past” and these atrocities now? “It happened so long ago.” We think we should bring them up and face them for many reasons. We should bring them up to acknowledge the lives lost, along with the reality that no justice has ever occurred for the victims, families and many others affected by these events. We should bring them up because few in the region speak publicly about these events yet wonder why race relations in the area are often so strained. We should bring them up because to date these events remain one of the most gruesome cases of racism and racial terrorism in this nation’s history, yet they are omitted from the history we teach our children. We should bring them up because Mary Turner’s murder remains one of the most horrific crimes committed against a human being in this nation’s history. We should bring them up because so far not one historical marker or grave stone is in place to acknowledge these events and the lives lost during that week of terror in May of 1918. And last but not least, we should bring these events up so we can face our collective past in order to see how it might affect our collective present and future. Please help us do that.

    Basically what you are saying is that in a race that black people are running with ankle weights attached and with white people having been given a 300 year head start that black people should just catch up. Sure some people would be strong enough and fast enough to, but when the odds are not even you can not expect an even result. Black people should not play the victim role, but they must understand the circumstances and fight to change them.

    he has Damontre Moore going 2 overall.

    He has Bejorn Waerner going to Raiders at 3. Manti going 11th but he said he is a top 5 player on his board.

    http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/12/13/espn-commentator-on-rg3-hes-kind-of-black-but-hes-not-really/

    “Is he (RGIII) a brother, or is he a cornball brother?,” Parker said. “He’s not really. He’s black, he does his thing, but he’s not really down with the cause. He’s not one of us. He’s kind of black, but he’s not really like the kind of guy you really want to hang out with…..“I want to find about him,” Parker said. “I don’t know because I keep hearing these things. We all know he has a white fiancee. Then there was all this talk about he’s a Republican, which there’s no information at all. I’m just trying to dig deeper into why he has an issue””
    -Rob Parker

    ““RG3, the ethnicity or the color of his fiancee is none of our business, it’s irrelevant, he can live his life in whatever way he chooses. The braids that he has in his hair, that’s his business, that’s his life, he can live his life. I don’t judge someone’s blackness based on those kinds of things. I just don’t do that. I’m not that kind of guy.”

    Nonsense.

    You don’t need to enslave or dominate to be a racist.

    You just have to be prejudiced against or hate an individual or group based solely on race.

    One doesn’t don’t have to enslave, dominate, or even have any power to wield in order to be a racist.

    Biography of Johann Friedrich Blumenbach

    Physician, anthropologist, naturalist, physiologist, historian and bibliographer, Johann Friedrich Blumenbach is generally regarded as the founder of physical and scientific anthropology. He first used the word ”race” in 1775 to classify humans into five divisions: Caucasian, Mongolian, Ethiopian, American, and Malay. Blumenbach also coined the term “Caucasian” because he believed that the Caucasus region of Asia Minor produced “the most beautiful race of men”.

    There is no record anywhere on earth of black people in amerikkka, such a system to enslave or dominate anyone.
    ==============================================
    So that’s the definition of racism you subscribe to ?

    You can only be a racist if you’re enslaving or dominating someone ?
    ============

    it isnt my definition

    it is the definition and purpose of those that invented the terminology in the first place

    Im sorry they didnt teach you that in english class

    racism is a power construct not an emotion

    dont take my word for it

    take a look

    Biography of Johann Friedrich Blumenbach

    Physician, anthropologist, naturalist, physiologist, historian and bibliographer, Johann Friedrich Blumenbach is generally regarded as the founder of physical and scientific anthropology. He first used the word ”race” in 1775 to classify humans into five divisions: Caucasian, Mongolian, Ethiopian, American, and Malay. Blumenbach also coined the term “Caucasian” because he believed that the Caucasus region of Asia Minor produced “the most beautiful race of men”.

    so you can clearly see i have nothing to do with any definition i only use the language as it is intended to be used
    =============================================
    No, that’s not what you’re doing.

    Your position is that black racism doesn’t exist and can’t exist due to a ‘power construct’.

    According to your defintion one can only be racist if one is enslaving or dominating.

    Did you get that from Blumenbach ?

    Whoever it was that first coined the term ‘race’ and which race he thought most beautiful is completely irrelevant to your ‘power construct’ thesis.

    Don’t know how you extrapolate that black racism doesn’t exist today based on whoever it was that first coined the term ‘race’ in the 18th century.

    But if it floats your boat to think that black racism can’t and doesn’t exist – sail away Captain.

    Build your core through the draft especially on the line of scrimmage.
    In the meantime you can use a free agent here and there to buy time till you draft the right guy or let the right guy develop.

    Once in a long while will you get a free agent that is a big difference maker(Gannon) and that usually happens when the team releasing the player has a percieved surplus of talent at the position (Grbac). Again, that will only happen when the rest of the base (Oline)is in place.

    As a rule free agents are “free” for a reason(injury history, attitude issues, high salary demands etc.) and rarely if ever produce up to their contracts.

    On a percentage basis, young hungry rookies with the salary cap in place are much better values.

    ==================

    its very simple

    you keep saying that it is my definition.

    i proved that it isnt my definition but the definition of the man that invented the term frierich blumenbach

    next i demonstrated why the term was invented, by using the inventors own words “Caucasians are the greatest race of men”

    That is white supremacy at its core, notice the similarity to hitler and kkk dogma?

    this vehicle was invented for the sole use of whites against non whites (black specifically)

    you dont have to say ‘whoever it was that invented the term race”. This is not a mystery, it is documented historical fat where the term and concept originated and the man that brought it fourth.

    Black people in amerikkka are not in a psotion to exercise this kind of system to oppress any one. There is no history of black people in amerikkka ever wielding this power, only being victimized by it.

    THE TERM AND SYSTEM WERE INVENTED FOR THE SOLE PURPOSE OF ENSLAVING AND DOMINATING BLACK PEOPLE, AT THE EXCLUSIVE USE FOR THE WHITE SUPREMACIST.

    There is only one kind of racism, and only one group in amerikkka that has ever employed it, black people dont fit the description according to the inventor

    While the facts may be a bit skewed from a variety of standpoints. The premise is solid, it appears they invented and excuse to brutalize blacks and tried to establish scientific facts why this was a necessary practice. Whites folks have long believed they were doing blacks folks a favor by enslaving them. Many whites yet ascribe to this theory.
