Raiders notes, quotes, etc . . .

The chain of events that led to Rolando McClain’s dispute with coach Dennis Allen included the linebacker being informed of his demotion to being a back up linebacker and special teams player.

McClain was back on the field Wednesday for the first time since Nov. 28, the day he was told to leave practice by Allen and later given a two-game suspension without pay for conduct detrimental to the team.

“Rolando and I met this morning,’’ Allen said following practice. “I laid out exactly what expectations are for him moving forward. Really, that’s about it . . . Rolando’s part of this team and we’re going to move on.’’

Asked how much McClain would play, Allen said, “Where we were at before the suspension is that he was going to fill a backup role and work on special teams. That’s where we’re at and we’ll see where we are on game day.’’

Omar Gaither continued to get the work at middle linebacker in the 4-3 defense. McClain had been taken off the nickel defense in favor of Miles Burris after four games.

McClain was not available for comment, and Allen declined to get into specifics about the suspension or events leading up to it.

Asked why the Raiders simply didn’t cut McClain, as they have Pat Lee and Ron Bartell when they lost their starting jobs, Allen said, “Just different circumstances.’’

As for disparaging comments made on his McClain’s Facebook page about the organization (which were later taken down), Allen said. “Things get said in the heat of the moment and we’ve got to move on.’’

Gaither said it was business as usual for McClain on the field.

“Same old, same old,’’ Gaither said. “He wasn’t disruptive or anything. It was all good.’’

In a recent interview with The Game (95.7-FM), Bartell said of McClain, “Believe it or not he’s a really good guy . . . He just needs to grow up, to be quite frank.’’

– Defensive tackle Richard Seymour was limited in practice Wednesday and Allen said,“I think there’s a good chance he’s going to play this week.’’

Seymour missed five games with a hamstring strain.

– Rookie Tony Bergstrom has been working at both guard spots as well as his role as an extra tight end. If Bergstrom sees action over the last three games, it would be at the expense of either left guard Cooper Carlisle or right guard Mike Briesel.

– U.S. Marines will at Raiderville, the West Side Plaza, near the BART entrance, and at Gates A, B, C and D before kickoff to accept donations for the Toys for Tots program.

In addition to new, unwrapped toys, monetary donations will be accepted.

Running backs Darren McFadden and Marcel Reece, tight end Brandon Myers and linebacker Miles Burris will sign autographs in exchange for new, unwrapped toy donations valued at $20 or more at the Raider Image at Hayward’s Southland Mall on Monday, Dec. 17, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

    This is simple guys.

marcus allen was seeing davis’s daughter and he was caken’ em on a daily.

Davis showed him that you can carry the ball and entertain me, but you cant be a part of my family and bang out my daughter.

This is the real reason for the feud.

davis did not want a black grandson by mistake or on purpose for that matter.

    Cam newton vs terrelle pryor

Cam and pryor were both unbelievable athletes in college, easily able to outrun and over power defenders, and were the best players on the field every saturday.

Cam was a far more polished passer in college, and this is where I would often give cam the edge when people used to compare them.

Even though many thought cam would never make it, i saw a kid with a beautiful nfl ready arm, that only needed to refine his mechanics.

Pryor on the other hand struck me as a kid that did not make enough progress as a passer in college. We now know that partly tressel’s offense was ony designed to let pryor beat teams with his world class athleticism, and not much time was put into polishing pryor for the pro game. We also know that pryor was immature and may not have put in all of the effort he could have to maximize his talent and time as a buckeye.

pryor left school and joined the nfl almost through the back door, and was immediately smacked with a dubious suspension. he was humbled and went to work.

Watching him in the pre season, he worked out that throwing motin and was much better with his feet in the pocket. What really jumped out though is that almost every single pass he made was thrown into SINGLE COVERAGE. he was able to make the right reads and identify where to go with the football, and that is huge.

pryor doesnt need to be the flashy passer that newton or griffin is. pryor can adapt a game managment style of low risk football, because of his electric play making ability.

I would be happy to pryor keep the turn overs to a minimum even if it meant taking a few less risk, and complete in the neighbor hood of 55% of his pass attempts. this would be very good for a qb seeing his first nfl game action.

i now believe that although he isnt the passer that newton is he is good enough, and will get better with time. we already know they favor running the ball, with pryor having a bit more speed, and newton with a bit more size.

Im certain davis and big mack will pay very very very close attention to newton when he is on the field in a couple of weeks. i hope pryor can do enough in this upcoming game to get more snaps ( the really should start him) vs the panthers.

pryor is a special talent like newton or rgIII, the kind of qb that can score a td on any snap from any point on the field, with his arm or his legs.

Get the kid on the field already….geeez

13 million for Palmer sounds crazy. It’s out of line.

If I’m RM, I ask him to take a significant cut. I’m talking about a 40% pay cut.

Palmer won’t be happy. Probably won’t agree to that large of a cut.

Anyone know what kind of guaranteed money we owe CP ?

Either way, if CP doesn’t want to accept a more reasonable salary – that leaves two options.

    Cut him or trade him.

Trade would be preferable of course, but honestly we’re not going to be able to get much in return unless he agrees to take less dough elsewhere.

QBs are at a premium in the NFL, and you never want to dump a good one.

But the Raids have to accept the reality that they’re a 4 win team with CP.

That same type of unacceptable result can be obtained for far less money.

The question that needs to be asked is, if you keep CP and his bloated salary around – can he get the Raids to 10 wins ? Is he a guy that will still be capable of playing at a high level, in say, 2014, with a presumably better supporting cast ?

My personal opinion is that it’s really not feasible to have a long term strategy built around CP.

Problem is I don’t see a viable alternative at this time.

Having said that, I would not be opposed to rolling the dice and bringing in guys who will probably turn out to be ’stop-gaps’ until a franchise QB is finally, mercifully obtained.

We’ve got to rebuild the defense and can Krapp to get competitive. That’s with or without Palmer.

We’re still gonna need a franchise QB to win Lombardis.

    ^^^^^^^^
Hmm…CP is still far better than over half the QB’s in the league.

If this team had a legit running game and a decent defense, CP would look that much better because it would equal more wins.

This is why I get so agitated with Hue being prematurely let go.

Hue made this team an effective running team and the passing game was unpredictable and explosive.

All that was needed was an improved defense.

But rookie owner Davis and rookie GM decided to tear it all down and try and completely rebuild when it didn’t need to be done.

Then hiring a young rookie head coach to replace a guy who was a better rookie head coach and then the new rookie head coach hiring a bad retread like Knapp to change offensive systems when it didn’t need to be changed and all of those bad moves, got this franchise and team in the terrible position it is today.

    Lousy!

i always thought mayweather would have beaten pacman because he’s a faster stronger marquez but i have much more respect for pacman because he fought everybody, even giving his toughest opponent marquez four fights (by the way marquez won the 1st and 4th, 2nd I lean Marquez third I lean Pacquiao but 2nd and 3rd could have been draws).

When you compare common opponents Mayweather i believe lost to De La Hoya who was the champ at the time and the aggressor while Pac pummelled him. Cotto gave Mayweather all he could handle while Pac similarly pumelled him. Mayweather on the other hand toyed with Marquez while Pac had his hands full

When you marvel Mayweathers controversially unblemished record however, remember that Roberto Duran was 70 and 1, while Julio Caesar Chavez went 89 -0 and these guys fought the best guys out there and went up in weight several times

I am not opposed to either for him really. I do think he has settled into his roll as a DE though, he was a bit small for a DT to begin with. Sure he will never be a Jared Allen pass rushing superstar, but he does create pressure, and he is rarely caught freelancing or out of position. This guy also has more down field tackles than most of our LB’s. Constant hustle. Have to love that.
