Practice notes, quotes

By Steve Corkran
Friday, December 14th, 2012 at 1:24 pm in Oakland Raiders.

General manager Reggie McKenzie and coach Dennis Allen are intent upon taking an extensive look at every player on the 53-man roster, especially those that haven’t received much playing the first 13 games.
The process is well underway now that the Raiders are out of playoff contention. Just don’t expect to see players such as quarterback Terrelle Pryor, offensive lineman Tony Bergstrom and defensive end Jack Crawford from the outset Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs.
“I don’t see any real major changeups as far as the starting lineup’s concerned, but we do want to see some of these guys get in some game action,” Allen said. “How much that is, I don’t know exactly right now. A lot of that, the game will dictate what that is.”
McKenzie said he particularly wants to see what Pryor can do in a regular-season game.
“That’s the only way I can evaluate him, is to play him,” McKenzie said Nov. 30. “Now, when he plays, how much he plays, that will be a charge to the coaching staff but, yes. … This is a good time to try to figure out what works best for him.”
The Raiders selected Pryor in the third round of the NFL supplemental draft in 2011. He has played one snap in 29 regular-season games in his NFL career.
Allen
Allen said a package of plays designed for Pryor to run was installed a few weeks ago. The proper situation hasn’t presented itself for Pryor to run those plays. It’s also possible that backup Matt Leinart will play before Pryor gets his chance, Allen added.
“The biggest thing is to start getting him into the game a little bit and let him see a little game action,” Allen said of Pryor. “I’m not ready to say that he’d be a starter.”
Pryor said he didn’t receive many reps during practice this week. Just the same, he is anticipating playing.
“I know I’ll be a tiny bit nervous,” Pryor said. “I haven’t played in awhile. Just pray through it and go out and do what I do. Progressions, no turnovers, have fun and smile. That’s it, at the end of the day. And Monday, learn, whether I did good or bad.”

– Tight ends Brandon Myers, Richard Gordon and David Ausberry were on equal footing during the offseason as the Raiders searched for a replacement for jettisoned starter Kevin Boss.
Myers quickly asserted himself as the heir apparent to Boss. Playing time for Ausberry and Gordon has dwindled as the season progressed. They played one snap each in Oakland’s most-recent game.
“We’ve had a chance to look at these guys a little bit,” Allen said. “We kind of know what we’ve got in these guys. They’re still in the lineup, and they’ll still be used pretty much the same way we’ve used them.”
That means a steady diet of special-teams play and very little playing time on offense.

– Defensive tackle Richard Seymour (hamstring) missed practice Friday, but there’s still a chance that he will play against the Chiefs, Allen said.
Seymour has missed the past five games with an injury he suffered Nov. 4 against the Buccaneers.
Strong safety Tyvon Branch (ankle, neck) returned to practice, and he is in the same boat as Seymour for Sunday. Allen said both will be evaluated before the game and a decision on their availability made at that time.

– The U.S. Marines will be at Sunday’s game to collect donations and accept new, unwrapped toys as part of their annual Toys for Tots program.
Also, running back Darren McFadden, fullback Marcel Reece, Myers and linebacker Miles Burris will sign autographs in exchange for a new, unwrapped toy valued at $20 or more at The Raider Image at Southland Mall in Hayward on Monday, from 6 p.m.-8.

What is it that makes a person get to the point that they think it right and just to execute little children because their lives turned out wrong, or someone looked at them funny?

Something is wrong with this Nations morals, and lack of self control and complete self-centeredness.
    ————————-
That too, Dakota. But people wern’t buying semi-automatic weapons with massive clips in the 50’s 60’s. And, I don’t believe guns were just as easy to get back then. I grew up in Oakland in the 60’s. Very few guns in the hood back then. People used to fistfight.

    +++++++++++++++

Maybe limit internet sales of this stuff? Would nut jobs be less likely to go down and buy this stuff from local gun dealers? Would they think they might get caught, or could be identified? Or maybe they just wouldn’t want to look a person in the eye as they purchased these guns?

    I don’t know.

    Maybe psychological testing requirements?

Remember the good old days, when losers would just go into their bedrooms with a rope and not feel the need to take 20 people with them?

What has changed to make these people feel they have the right, or the justification that they can end a bunch of other lives just because they suck at life?

A series of uncoordinated mass stabbings, hammer attacks, and cleaver attacks in the People’s Republic of China began in March 2010. The spate of attacks left at least 21 dead and some 90 injured. Analysts have blamed mental health problems caused by rapid social change for the rise in these kind of mass murder and murder-suicide incidents.[1]

Tighter Gun control doesn’t solve the problem of crazy people or violent people. Timothy McViegh pulled off the biggest domestic attack with the exception of 9/11, neither used guns.

In Mexico, no pistols larger than a .380, 38 super, 38 special (Revolvers) are allowed. Doesn’t make them any less safer when it comes to gun violence.

Just putting all my thoughts into one post here….

    =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

All the people responding to gun control political-media driven talk are not seeing the forest from the trees, just letting media/politics do the thinking for themselves.

    quote
In 2010, 10,228 people were killed in alcohol-impaired driving crashes.

In 2010 8,775 people were killed by firearm of which only 358 were by rifles (ar-15) for example.

But the gun control morons in this country talk about banning rifles. A tragedy occurred today, but lets not act like rifles are the problem. I dont hear anybody talk about tougher alcohol laws
    /quote

    quote
Does anyone see the irony and complete lack of logic of laws against guns?

There are laws against killing people and yet the person who kills breaks that law without remorse. The law didn’t stop the criminal.

There is a HUGE moral and cultural stigma against attacking and murdering children even among criminals. Didn’t stop today’s NUT job.

What LAW was going to prevent this attack today? This nut job couldn’t buy a gun off the black market? That’s laughable.

How are the laws against drugs working out for us? Brink of bankrupcy if you haven’t been paying attention.

The MASSIVE police state required to enable gun control is NOT the country I want to live in.
    /quote

    quote
I do feel we’ve become too coddled as a society. Now the slightest thing hurts and offends people and they don’t know how to deal with it. Most of the people who go on these crazy rampages, you can tell they haven’t been through much adversity and can’t cope.
    /quote

So much naivety and BS going to be posted in this thread by a lot of shallow thinking people (letting media/politics do their thinking) instead of researching and applying logic, and by people who will just parrot catchphrase-like generalizations.

I’m not going to hang around responding to it all. It’s depressing to realize the degree people have become reactionary knee-jerkers.

Let it be that what I have stated in my previous few posts can be used as a reply to the thousand shallow postings that this thread will attract.

    quote
    20 little kids GG, 20 little kids….
Just think on the reality of that for a minute & I dare you not to feel the need to throw up.
    /quote

You’re splintering off on a different tangent. You’re focusing on the sadness of the death of 20 children, which has nothing to do with gun control laws. As I explained previously, if a crazy person wants to kill 20 kids via gun violence, in a hypothetical society with tough gun laws, they can still freely purchase guns. Laws do not stop crimes. Laws against particular devices do not stop crimes using those particular devices.

It’s incidental who got killed here. Kids, women, men…it’s irrelevant to the topic of “gun control.”

    quote
That’s a cop out, GG. If you want to make the “legal killer” comparison you need to acknowledge that alcohol can be used safely, even if it frequently abused. Guns have one function.
    /quote

Guns can and have been used safely in society. In America, using those stats I posted….there were 8,000 deaths by guns, and only 350 by high-powered rifles. There are tens of millions of guns and high-powered rifles in legal and non-legal ownership in the USA. That means guns were safely being used 99% of the time, by 99% of the people in gun ownership.

Repeat…it’s against the law to drink and drive. There were still 10,000 deaths in the USA in 2010 by drink-driving.

Gun control laws are a red-herring BS cop-out political/media agenda.
