Final: Raiders 15, Chiefs 0

The Raiders snapped a six-game losing streak the old-fashioned way Sunday, dominating both sides of the line of scrimmage and riding five field goals by Sebastian Janikowski to a 15-0 win over the Kansas City Chiefs at O.co Coliseum.

It was Oakland’s first win since Oct. 28, also against Kansas City, and the first home victory since a 26-23 overtime win over Jacksonville on Oct. 21.

The Raiders improved to 4-10 in their home finale with a stifling defensive effort against a poor Kansas City team which fell to 2-12 and has the inside track on the top pick in the NFL draft.

It was the first shutout by the Raiders since a 24-0 win over the Chiefs in the 2002 regular-season finale, the year they won the AFC championship and advanced to the Super Bowl.

Janikowski converted 5 of 6 field goals attempts from distances of 20, 50, 57, 30 and 41 yards and also missed from 51 yards.

Quarterback Carson Palmer completed 18 of 29 passes for 178 yards but was unable to get the Raiders in the end zone despite playing most of the game with advantageous down and distance.

What the Raiders lacked the ability to turn yardage into touchdowns, they controlled the game and the clock in a game that was never really in doubt.

Running back Darren McFadden rushed for 110 yards on 30 carries to lead a 201-yard rushing attack, the Raiders’ biggest output of the season. Backup running back Mike Goodson contributed 89 yards on 13 carries.

Chiefs quarterback Brady Quinn often didn’t have time to throw _ he was sacked four times _ and was inept when he did have receivers in the clear. Quinn was 18 of 32 for 136 yards and one interception by Joselio Hanson.

The Chiefs didn’t record their initial first down until 5:30 remained in the first quarter, at which time Oakland already had 16 first downs. Running back Jamal Charles had just 10 yards on nine carries, accounting for all of Kansas City’s rushing yardage.

At halftime, the Raiders led only 9-0 on Janikowski’s first three field goals but had piled up a 198-17 advantage in total offense.

The Raiders looked to be headed into the half leading onl 6-0 after Janikowski missed from 51 yards away, but the Chiefs took all of 32 seconds to go three-and-out and give the Raiders the ball back with 56 seconds left from their own 9-yard line.

From there, quarterback Carson Palmer completed passes of 9 and 15 yards to Rod Streater and 7 yards each to Darren McFadden and Denarius Moore. A 14-yard strike To Brandon Myers with nine seconds left in the half enabled Janikowski to connect from 57 yards just before halftime.

The Raiders finish the season on the road with games at Carolina and San Diego.

I hate the Niners as much as the next Raider fan, but Harbaugh is a good coach. I’d love to have a tough arrogant SOB as a HC here in Oakland.

Ok, this is crazy talk now. Are their REALLY Raider fans thinking college football success has much to do with the NFL?

    STOP PLAYING MADDEN!

I hate defending this coaching staff, but Pryor may never complete more than a few passes in the NFL. Surprised he hasn’t been converted to TE yet.

Always been a bigger fan of an awesome defense than I have been of a high scoring offense and I hate that we can’t reach that level, like the 49ers. Ravens D was one of my favorites to watch when they won the Superbowl.

Hope Mark is watching and getting sick to his stomach because we have alot of work to do. :/

Pryor’s mechanics are not a mess, his mechanics are actually better than Kappy’s to tell you the truth just compare and contrast it on their highlight reels.

Jim has cleaned up some of Kappy’s mechanics and Pryor’s issues were footwork mainly. I wish we had a chance to see that today but they refused to allow it.

EVERY NFL team evaluates their players in summer, pre-season, and practices.

You don’t just throw out 3rd stringers out on game-day to “see” what you have.

The 100 practices in summer, early fall, and through the season tell you what you have.

Why can’t priest, riff, and others get this?

They sadly believe teams should appease individual fans wishes, even though the coaches know of players short comings.

Crabtree is a natural catcher, DHB is just a much better athlete they both can be effective but if I had a chance to take either I might take DHB due to his speed and athleticism. People will sya he drops a lot of passes which just isn’t true he’s just not as natural catching the football but he does everything else much better than Crabtree RAC stronger better blocker. Crabtree may have him in route running as well but DHB gets open fine.

At the end of the day, there are some interesting and smart bloggers on her with great insight about the game but not one, will ever know how to accurately breakdown and evaluate a college or NFL player. Nobody in the NFL takes advice from a blog.

I’m worried that some of you might hurt yourselves if Pryor doesn’t get enough snaps in the reg season and gets traded.

    :)

  • da trinity

    @alex7
You keep repeating that T.Pryor was skipped over 60 times in draft. You are aware it was a supplemental draft right? No team in there right mind would ever pick a player in the supplemental draft in the first round. Players in those drafts come with baggage. Also if Pryor would have returned for his senior year you can bet your bottom dollar he would have been a first round pick. Jake Locker, Ponder, Tebow, were first rounder for crap sake. I want to see Pryor play. We need to see if he can be our QB of the future. Were in position to get a QB in the next draft. if Pryor plays and sucks we can get one of these QB’s in this draft. Come on DA player the young man. And BTW, fire Knapp.

I’d say the whole team is in shock right now. Momentum is dead. Kap is playing tight and the play calling is tight. Defense is getting jobbed by both ill-inspired play and the refs.

Tough lesson to learn. Its a 60 minute game. Not 45 min. Tough way to learn it.
