Branch returns to practice, still hobbled
By Steve Corkran
Friday, December 21st, 2012 at 11:17 am in Oakland Raiders.
Strong safety Tyvon Branch is back at practice today after missing the past two days. However, it’s obvious that his sore ankle isn’t anywhere near full strength.
We’ll know more in about an hour whether Branch is going to play Sunday against the Carolina Panthers after speaking with coach Dennis Allen.
Defensive tackle Richard Seymour is not practicing once again. Therefore, it’s likely that he won’t play Sunday and miss his seventh straight game.
If so, Desmond Bryant will start in place of Seymour.
If Branch can’t play or aggravates his injury in the game, Mike Mitchell will take his place in the starting lineup.
Everyone else looks good to go for Sunday’s game, including cornerback Phillip Adams, who is fresh from suffering his second concussion of the season.
Adams is working at cornerback and fielding punts, too.

4-3 with some 3-4 or…. 3-4 with some 4-3.

Dennis, If you think we were 3 CP int’s away from being 7-7, is it would suggest a little tweak here or there and we’re right in the thick of things next yr.
Is this your thought?

No sir.
Regardless of being 7-7 or not, we arent that close to being a perrenial playoff team.
That is the goal. Not to make the playoffs 1 year. Make it mulitple years.

I still can’t believe I’m going to start Rod Streater with the big money on the line over DMo17. But Moore just isn’t playing right lately. I don’t know if its that he’s not focused, or mailing it in already. But Streater seems to have the want-to.

big makc takes a lot of crap and righfully so, the coaching staff no competitoin for palmer, those were major gaffs.
However i think he did find a couple of nice players, streater seems like he can be a decent player, goodson makes a solid back up.
He has to jump off the allen train though.
Allen is sinking like a stone, and taking the team with him
he is worse than cable at this point and that is pretty bad

Were still a 4-3 team as composed for 2 reasons.
1) We dont have 3-4 LBs. This problem takes time to make it legit
2) We dont have the 3-4 DT
—-
Burnett, Burris are 3-4 LBs.. Wheeler is my only question..
And yep… McClain is still a Raider… 3-4 ILB.
And as far as the “NT”..
Ricky Jean-Francois, as I have been suggesting, solves that as a FA.

McClain is gone so we need 3 pieces before this idea has any wings. Also, THERE’S NO DEPTH AT THIS FORMATION. We cannot count on FA’s coming to Oakland because it isnt a desired destination

The only two lineman on this list that come back are Bryant and Carter. The rest are gone. Thank goodness.
I can see nothing but lineman and maybe ONE DB IN THIS YEAR’S DRAFT.
There are a few keepers like Wheeler and Adams on the lsit but the rest will test the market.
Kelly is the last really bad value on this team. If we draft well Kelly will not start next year (see Seymour). I am sure McClain gets cut since no one will offer us even a cup of coffee in a deal. Lechler and Leinart will be gone as well.
Need more first and second round picks. That happens in 2014.

That was Cable’s preference all along and he said so in interviews. I watched them. It is a primary reason he was not retained.
FURTHER, YOU THINK CABLE WAS A BUFFOON. WRONG AGAIN. HE OBVIOUSLY IS A KEY PART OF SEATTLE’S TURNAROUND!!!!!!!
“Ask any Seattle player, and he will speak of how important Cable has been. He has helped give Seattle its physical mindset. (Running back Marshawn) Lynch even waited for reassurance that Cable would be back for 2012 before he agreed to re-sign.”
Schefter opined that Cable is on track to be considered for another head coaching gig in the NFL based on the wonders he has worked with the Seahawks.
Why is it always the coaches with you guys??
Are you old enough to remember when the Raiders actually had talented players? Do you know what that looks like???? Talented teams do not get b*tch slapped on the line of scrimmage for a decade due to bad coaching with seven different staffs over a decade.

Cam dominated College, had a very impressive rookie year (breaking passing records). Agreed he is having a Sophmore slump.

I’ll agree that it’s waaay too early to say the Branch deal was bad. Some saying comes to mind about draining swamps and alligators and I’m sympathetic to the situation Branch is in. Not going to say he didn’t crap the bed on multiple occasions though. Just that some of that frustration of playing with street free agent quality corners has to take its toll.
Still, Branch is on notice and should be.

The way the Raiders became a power was by building the lines with high picks then getting someone to carry the ball with later picks.
Perhaps that was more Ron Wolf than Mr Davis but that is the way we did it;
Hewritt Dixon 8th round by Denver
Clem Daniels Free Agent
Hubbard 11th round
Van Eegahn 3rd round
Clarence Davis 4th round
Banaszak 5th round
Charlie Smith 4th round
Don Highsmith 13th round
The only high round picks we invested on a RB in the history of the Raiders were Allen 1st, Kaufman 1st Bell 2nd and DMAC 1st.
Even Bo was a 7th rounder because of his two sport option.
Point is the game has not changed. REPEAT. IT HAS NOT CHANGED.
Why do you think PEYTON PICKED THE BRONCOS? THEY WERE 6TH IN THE LEAGUE IN RUSHING LAST YEAR AND 4TH IN TEAM DEFENSE!!!!!!!!
Build the lines and half the people on this blog could get yardage.
The reclamation project success that Oakland had was a result of Upsahw, Shell, Otto, Dalby, Mosebar, Lawrence, Marvin etc. NOT COACHING OR MONEY OR MYSTIQUE!

Johnson and Fitz are not good enough to turn around the fortunes of their teams. WR’s on their own are not difference makers. They need many complementary pieces.
Whether you like it or not the lines(and backers to an extent) will be our focus with our top three picks for the next two years. We will do that to build a core and start controlling the lines. The results will be wins.
9 of your starting 22 (41%) plays exclusively in the box.
OLines create time and space. Dlines destroy time and space.
THAT IS WHAT THE GAME IS ABOUT. The rest of the pieces fill in the gaps. (See Johnson and Fitz).
We need to build through the draft and expend enough high round draft picks on lineman to ensure superior line play. The way the Raiders used to do it.
We have 10 years of evidence to show that what we have been doing DOES NOT WORK!

The reason we have no pass rush is because we let our only pass rusher walk without attempting to restructure his contract and then replacing him with NO ONE.
Why have the Raiders scored only three rushing TD’s all season?
Because Reggie let our best running back walk without offering him a big enough contract to convince him to stay and replacing him with NO ONE.
How many rushing TD’s does Mike Bush have alone this season?
It’s on Reggie.

The 2012 season was a big disappointment and a lot of us bought a bill of preseason goods that weren’t tied to reality.
Reggie knew the score in free agency and mostly stayed away from it. He’s got cap hell to deal with and this has to be unwrapped carefully before we can recover.
The only thing that would make me call for Reggie’s head is if the team quit on DA. But I think the team is still trying hard despite being outgunned.
You guys wanting Reggie fired already aren’t seeing the bigger picture. Who out there qualified for a GM gig would come to Oakland and knowing the financial situation he’s stepping into. So if not Reggie, then who? Give some names and then give some incentives.
December 21st, 2012 at 12:14 pm
Mike Bush 5 rushing TD’s this season
2012 Oakland Raiders 3 rushing TD’s
Smooth move Reggie.

Actually the story hasn’t ended yet. Cable is the Assistant HC and Offensive Line Coach on a team that is playing better and better each week. In fact it is probably his offense your boy Russell is working with in Seattle. He has absolutely PASTED his opponents the last two weeks entering a major divisional game against the Whiners. Remember when our team played like that? But then Jackson took over, couldn’t manage a coin flip, couldn’t manage a game, put McClain out on the field after a gun incident, wouldn’t go for two up 12, dropped 80% of his games to end his tenure, and you think he’s a coach. While his current team is slipping. Amazing isn’t it..

********************************************************
Carroll is a defensive guy. Always has been. Darrell Bevell is the OC. Cable, due to Carroll’s additional responsibilities as Director of Football Operations (or something) plays a large role as Assistant Head coach. Probably Bevell’s offensive scheme, but no question about why the o-line is playing as well as they are and Seattle is improving weekly on offense.
Cable got the Raiders playing tough and physical again. Seattle is playing that way now, and players and media that follow the team are saying that Cable’s a major role in that.
He will have a HC gig long before the guy that replaced him in Oakland.
December 21st, 2012 at 1:11 pm
Branch needs to be rested in the next game.
No point in risking further injury.

i wonder how many dirty secrets are in the nfl. Why did seau and belcher and carson blow their brains out?
Why are so many of these guys perverts and weirdos and alcoholics wife beaters and drug addicts?
I suggest that many of them have suffered from sexual and physical abuse, and have been effeminized through mis education.
Once exposed to the trappings of pro sports it is a potent mix of sex drugs and living in a disney world bubble.
