    It’s a shame we don’t have a 2nd round draft pick

  3. papertiger418 Says:

I wonder how many FGs Jano will hit today?

  4. papertiger418 Says:

It’ll take more than 4 on the D-line to stop Cam today

  5. papertiger418 Says:

Hopefully Joselio Hanson will make an impact play today.

  6. papertiger418 Says:

Perhaps Pryor can score a few TDs as well in his specialized red zone packages.

  7. papertiger418 Says:

We’ll know this game is over if Leinart has to come in.

  8. papertiger418 Says:

Say what you want about the Palmer trade, but I still think he’s an upgrade over Jason Campbell.

  9. papertiger418 Says:

It’s a shame that Lechler will be gone next year.

  10. papertiger418 Says:

I’m still blown away by the fact that we were one man down on defense for the final play of the game against the Texans last year.

  11. papertiger418 Says:

SeaBass could set the record today.

  12. papertiger418 Says:

Ken Stabler should be in the Hall of Fame.

Knapp does not have as much to work with as some on this blog think he does

    Charlie,

    I couldn’t agree more!!

  14. RaiderRockstar Says:

Palmer signed a contract and honored that contract. It was Mike Brown the owner and GM of Cincinatti that did not honor his agreements. Brown did a poor job of getting guys around Palmer. Palmer “retired” because he did not want Brown to franchise him and force him to return after his contract ended.

    ***

    SeyBush,

Palmer had plenty of talent to work with in Cincy. He wasn’t franchised either. He wasn’t even set to become a UFA!

please stop making stuff up to defend the quitter

  15. RaiderRockstar Says:

The only issue I have is Reggie started the year thinking or planning to win now, and make playoffs. The season went pear-shaped. But I still don’t see an indication from Reggie/Allen that they’re truly rebuilding.

You’ve heard Allen/Knapp say how it’s imperative they bring back the entire roster pretty much. And how reports are Allen sees Palmer as his franchise QB.

Allen is a mouthpiece of Reggie.

It’s quite possible this entire regime seriously tried to win now and make the playoffs, and this is how bad they really are at it (4-12). And that they’ll carry forward into 2013 holding continuity and thinking they can still win now and make playoffs, with Palmer returning as starter, and Brisiel returning as RG, and once again we have to suffer thru a 4-12 season.

Maybe then all those people who support Reggie/Allen/Palmer will come around and be the most vocal wanting their firing.

    GG = money!!

  16. RaiderRockstar Says:

how do explain reggies decision to not cut seymour and worse give seymour a new contract that when cut next year it hits our cap by over 5mil, or signing briesel to a 20 mil deal that when hes cut next year he hits our cap by 2.7, or franchising branch then signing him long term. throw in palmers restructuring and reggie made some very very bad decisions that do not line up with the so called rebuilding.

    ***

    NYC,

Reggie committed to Palmer because Mark Davis spend last year’s 1st rounder on him and this year’s 2nd rounder on him. When the owner does something like that, you just gotta let things play out. Palmer restructured to the vet minimum to help the Raiders get under the cap. Huff, Seymour & Kelly did too. BigMac didn’t have any money or draft picks. Palmer staying was #1 on the priority list. As Palmer continues to lose football games, Mark Davis will become less enamored with him. Reggie is already short 2 draft picks in this upcoming draft and the roster needs major overhaul, regardless of what the coordinators say. Reggie’s 3rd year of being GM he will have our financial house in order and all the overpaid underachievers will be gone. He will have plenty of cash & picks to work with and I think Palmer will be out of a job. Regardless of the stats, winners stay and losers go. CP3 has to win 9+ games next year if he wants to stay in Oakland.

by the way – I agree. Tagging Branch and then signing him to a long-term deal was a stupid move. So was paying Seymour $15 million to stay rather than $7.5 million to leave (we couldn’t have used that extra $7.5 mil on another player or two?). Brisiel is awful. Bartell & Spencer stink. Barnes & Smith at RT = puke

I agree with GG. Lots of veteran adds, like Tollefson, Wheeler, Hanson & Carter to the defense. Leinart, Goodson, Hagan & Schmitt to the offense.

Raiders weren’t trying to re-build, but now they may be!

I agree. I’m backing Mark, Reggie & Dennis!

I’m not still sitting here crying in my coffee over the firing of Hue Jackson

  22. dr_robert Says:

yeah, i mean i’m not in love with this staff. they have done some questionable things and obviously the team didn’t improve. in fact, it seems to have “regressed”, as mark davis said. but i also know how much went wrong that wasn’t in their hands, and i’m aware that coaches can make big strides in year two. and if DA came with high marks, then we will just have to see how it pans out. if next season goes this way, then i will be calling for their heads too.

  23. dr_robert Says:

btw, i’ve been looking forward for months to quentin tarantino’s “django unchained”. qt is probably my favorite director and i’m stoked. but i bet missdick is giddy with anticipation (if he’s cool enuff to even know about the movie), since it is a slave-revenge story. “kill white people and get paid for it? what’s not to like?” i gotta think this will be missdick’s favorite movie of all time.

  24. dr_robert Says:

he has missed the opportunity to call this game “cam unchained”.

  25. RaiderRockstar Says:

    Dr Bob,

    Mark Davis = rookie
    Reggie McKenzie = rookie
    Dennis Allen = rookie
Greg Knapp = what other OC’s were available in February?
    Jason Tarver = rookie

not only were these guys brand spanking new, but we completely changed systems on both offense & defense.

I don’t think 16 games will tell us everything we need to know about this regime. the longer we give them, the more we’ll start to see what direction this team is headed. BigMac had the toughest job of any GM over the past 30 years

  26. RaiderRockstar Says:

    ======

    Thanks for the love :)
But yeah, it’s quite obvious they genuinely tried to win now, and are really this bad at it (4-12).

Everything from the GM’s veteran additions and restructurings (his evaluation of their talents) as well as his terrible passiveness in the trade window and making coaching changes during the season….to the coaching staffs ability to coach up players, install a system, prepare their players, out-coached and out-adjusted during games, lack the imagination and inventiveness required to utilize the array of talent on their roster for various ploys, to utilize the array of talent on their roster to keep players enthused and developing as players, the enforcement of a system instead of tailoring a system(s) around the array of skill-sets on their roster, and all the hypocrisy of ‘accountability’ and double-talk and deflecting blame downwards instead of owning it.

  30. GG Says:

I really think Mark Davis needs to draw on the advice of Herock and Madden again. He needs someone very astute (like many of us here are) to truly be able to objectively evaluate Reggie and Allen.

As I indicated in post #29 and that RaiderRockstar indicated in all his posts, and many others like DJ Johnny, etc etc.

Mark needs to hire a President of Football Operations. Someone who is above the GM, give the GM a boss. Someone who can/will evaluate him because he himself is a football man, with the same front office type of experience to properly objectively evaluate Reggie. Would be hard/impossible for Mark to do that, as he acknowledges anyway.

To me, that is the key component for 2013…Mark hiring a P of FO. That way he’s not torching Reggie and Allen, but putting them on notice, they cant BS Mark, and Reggie truly is answering to someone. That P of FO too has to be someone who is steeped in Raiders lore. Someone who won’t have an anti-Al agenda. Nor someone who is out to protect Reggie/Allen. As he did not hire them either. He has no dog in the race. He’s just protecting Mark’s a$$ and the Raiders brand.

  31. Plunketthead Says:

Mark and Reggie have a plan to develop a system that produces a good team on the field every year while fixing the books so the team looks like a viable NFL operation = middle of the pack or better and not rock bottom where we have been for a decade.

I hope they show big steps forward next year and these last two games

Mark Davis says Immaculate Reception is still a “dagger”

Posted by Mike Florio on December 23, 2012, 8:02 AM EST

The late Al Davis hated the play that allowed the Pittsburgh Steelers to swipe a playoff win from the Raiders 40 years ago today via a deflected pass that Franco Harris plucked out of the sky on the fly and ran into the end zone.

Current Raiders owner Mark Davis didn’t like it very much, either.

“It’s something that lives on,” Davis said, via Monte Poole of Bay Area News Group. “And it’s a dagger every time you see it.”

Just before that play, the younger Davis had been running around the family home, reveling in the looming berth in the AFC title game. “I went absolutely berserk,” Davis said. “I went from room to room, jumping on the beds, jumping on the couch.

“Then I came back down to watch, you know, the end of it. And all of a sudden . . . it was like sudden death.”

Davis explained that, when his father returned home from Pittsburgh, he didn’t seem particularly upset. “With my dad, there was always the ‘us-against-them’ attitude, that we were getting screwed in any situation if there was a chance for it,” Davis said.

As to at least one day in history, Mark Davis feels that way, too.

“I still believe we should have won that game,” Davis said. “But when you go to the airport in Pittsburgh, you know they feel different.

“And the thing that kills me is it’s replayed every year. Then you walk into the Pittsburgh airport and there’s Franco [Harris] catching the [expletive] ball. It doesn’t go away.”

It definitely doesn’t go away. And that’s why it’s the greatest single play in league history.

The only way the 40th anniversary of the Immaculate Reception would be any better would be if the Raiders and Steelers were playing, in Pittsburgh.

PFF has Veldheer rated the 17th best starting tackle.

About where I would put him, above average, not elite.

  38. Just Fire Baby Says:

While Raiders’ running back Darren McFadden may be our lowest graded player at his position through Week 15, the Raiders still boast plenty of talent in their backfield. McFadden’s problem is that he just doesn’t do much beyond the work of his blockers, with just 13 missed tackles forced from 180 carries and a disappointing Yards After Contact average of just 1.9. Grading negatively as a rusher, a receiver and as a pass blocker, McFadden just doesn’t look like the player the Raiders thought they were getting when they used the No. 4 overall draft pick on him back in 2008.

    McNinny = easily replaceable

    Not as easy as Krapp.

It’s possible DMAC has lost ‘it’.

    But I don’t think so.

I’ve seen DMAC excel. I believe he can be a force again.

    Won’t happen with Krapp though.

Got to play to your player’s strengths.

DMAC’s game is hitting holes quickly.

    Not a ‘glider’.

He will pulverize defenders in the second level.

Still the Raid’s best player if utilized correctly.

    Speaking of easily replaced…

Slo-glandless Greenbeanie will NOT be missed.

    Slo-mania !

  50. Dakota Says:

#49 At least someone else in here has a brain.

  51. Just Fire Baby Says:

There was a play last week that exemplifies the stats that PFF put out there.

There was a wide hole in the left side on a pitch play that McNinny shot through, looked like he was going to break out, only as soon as he came in contact with any defender, he got flattened immediately.

Basically his O-line generated a hole for 17 yards, and Darren did absolutely NOTHING in the open field.

  55. GG Says:

McFaddens yards after first hit this year are terrible. and has genuinely been outplayed by everyone else on the RB depth chart. I am sure if Taiwan was given more opportunity he too would outperform. This is why it’s a shame that certain players get constantly started more to do with their salary/draft position, and others are trapped behind not getting a genuine opportunity of 10 or so carries in a game to get their momentum going.

  56. Dakota Says:

Norv wants to be an oc next year. Sign him up!

  57. Dakota Says:

Norv would maximize our offensive players.

  58. Just Fire Baby Says:

Norv as an OC would be awesome.

But you could cut the TP talk out of that scenario though.

Norv loves the strong-armed play-action, 7 step drop offense.

Speaking of which, would it be too much too ask Carson to sell the play-fake a little more? He really half-azzes them sometimes.

That was the best skill of the Soup man. Dude sold the hell out of the playfakes.

  59. RAIDERMAN99 Says:

You want me to blame Knapp for something? There you go, the lack of offense sapped Slo-Mania of it’s MoJo.
    =================================================
    I get it now.

Krapp is responsible for the demise of Slo-mania, but is not responsible for DMAC’s fall off, or the Raid ground game futility.

    Gotcha.

BTW, as far as rooting for the Raids to lose to secure better draft position…

If we were in contention for the top pick and a Luck or RGIII was available – without hesitation, I’d say dump the remaining two games.

I’m not sure that there’s anyone in this draft worth dumping games for. Still it can’t hurt to be drafting higher.

I hate losing, but I really don’t care if the Raids lose these last two.

I put absolutely no stock in the ‘carry over’ argument I’ve seen brought up here and in other places.

My opinion is that beating KC, Carolina and SD (or even 2 of the 3) to close out this season will have no bearing whatsoever on how we perform in 2013.

Getting rid of Krapp on the other hand…

  60. Just Fire Baby Says:

There is a likely scenario that we can win these last two games, and only “fall” in the draft maybe 2 spots from where we are today.

Al Davis would want to win the games.

    =================================================
Is that something like our scoring is ‘only’ down 2 points a game ?

Or our win total is ‘only’ down 2 games ?

We don’t know how the draft will play out.

The difference between drafting 3rd or 6th could be huge.

Not only in terms of player selection, but in trade possibilities.

It’s very easy to overestimate the importance of winning these last two games and underestimating the potential benefits of losing them.

I don’t believe that the ‘carry-over’ effect from season to season is significant.

I believe that our draft position carries more significance.

Enough to ‘dump’ games this year ? Probably not.

But I really don’t care if the Raids win these last two.

And I can see how losing them can help.

If we do lose, I hope we get SHUT OUT.

    Got to SCRAP THE KRAPP.

    Carolina team on the road?

    Division road win?

You don’t think winning breeds confidence?

    “NO” bearing????

Surely it will have SOME bearing on next year.

Oh, and I agree we need a new play caller.

  67. Charlie Says:

    Just fire

Have to have a running game to sell.

It has been my point on many posts. When you have strong line play i gives the coordinators far more degrees of freedom for creativity.

I simply do not think many on this blog realize how line play impacts calls.
Example; Knapp has his hands tied with Barnes at RT. Barnes needs help all the time on passing downs against good DE’s.

The same with Tarver. We can not bring pressure on the QB with only four and we can not stop good running teams consistently. Therefore; live by the blitz-die by the blitz.

  68. DJ Johnny Says:
